April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.

April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.

Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.

Cassia and Stanley investigate the disappearance of three witches at Mirella Retirement Village. The investigation is complicated by Trent, the grandson of one of the missing witches, who is initially unwilling to help but eventually agrees. During their search, Cassia finds a spellbook belonging to Brigid Sangrey, which reveals an incident involving black magic from decades ago. The discovery raises the question of whether the witches' disappearance is linked to the incident and the strange blue flowers that grow in the village. The fact that only satyrs work in the village further fuels suspicion. Unfortunately, the investigation is abruptly halted by a tragedy, leaving Cassia heartbroken.

The book is well-written, and April Fernsby has created a paranormal universe where various creatures coexist naturally. However, the book isn't the best in the series. It's easy to read and fast-paced, with consistent and enjoyable writing throughout. Stanley is the best character in the series, followed by Cassia. Esther doesn't appear in this installment, but Blythe has a more prominent role, which is fitting as she is Cassia's mentor and the ruler of the Brimstone village. The secondary characters, including Trent, Creg, Mirella, and the wizards, are interesting. The world-building is the strongest aspect of April Fernsby's writing. The way the magical villages and the "normal" world coexist is well-crafted and has worked well throughout the series. This is a warm and cozy book, with magic permeating every moment. While it's not the best book in the series, it's still a decent read. I recommend it to middle-grade and young-adult readers who enjoy magic, paranormal creatures, and a little bit of romance without any horror elements.

April Fernsby has created a great fantasy world for her Brimstone Witch Mystery series. This story has a great plot with many twists, turns and suspects. The ending was a surprise and as always very satisfying.

The Satyr's Secret is another fun filled installment in this fantastic series!  This is a classic cozy mystery dealing with witches, wood nymphs, satyrs, vampires and so much more! These wonderfull eccentric characters inhabit an absolutely delightful magical world.  It's not a scary story, but there are some very sad sections.

Three witches have mysteriously vanished, and one of the grandsons is stirring up trouble to find his grandmother.  Cassie and Stanley are assigned to investigate the disappearances and soon find themselves deep in intrigue and danger.

Mirella Retirement Village is a charming village on the far edge of Brimstone, it has amenities anyone would love, including a quiet zone, a housing zone, even a fun zone for the young at heart.  There are beautiful blue flowers with streaks of silver and gold that grow throughout the Village.  Actually, they appear to grow ony in the Mirella Retirement Village.   Strangely, even Blythe, the 300 year old head of Brimstone has never seen nor heard of these flowers.

This is a five-star enjoyable mystery.  You'll find yourself both laughing and crying while you read this story.

Things have been quiet in Brimstone, but now it appears that three witches have gone missing at the Mirella Retirement Village. Blythe sends Cassia and Stanley to investigate. They are at first thwarted by the grandson of one of the witches, Trent, but he soon joins their investigation. It appears that his grandma has a spellbook that reveals dark secrets.

Is karma paying back Trent’s grandma? Is Trent really helping or harming? What about the healing blue flowers that are so much a part of the village?

This is the first book I have read by this author. She has quite a way with describing settings as well as constructing a complex plot that's still in the realm of a paranormal cozy. Stanley is an excellent character; I don't think I've read another book that had such an awesome, human-like familiar. I was feeling Cassia’s horror right along with her when things didn't look so good for the cat. I love the descriptions of the retirement village. Could you imagine living in such a place? The fun zone, the woods, the quiet place--I think I'd love it!

This is an absolutely delightful cozy, and if you enjoy paranormal ones, you might find this a very engaging and enjoyable read.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

A strange little gnome finds a new assignment for Cassia the Justice witch, and her cat familiar, Stanley: missing witches in a retirement village.

A charming village, it has a quiet zone, a housing zone, and a fun village - something like superb housing combined with Mouse-land, and a Zen retreat, all wrapped into one.

Somehow the witches decided to erect statues of themselves and to place themselves at the head of the line - saying they were placed in order of their importance.

Things are not entirely as they seem though, The mighty witch may well be mighty nasty. The Zen one, hiding behind forgetting spells, blackmail and deceit.

And the festive one with 15 ex-husbands, in addition to being um festive and um flirty, may have some history of other extreme unkindnesses to other creatures.

A tangled web, which Cassia works to un-knot.

Real love of many kinds may be only delayed, rather than un-done altogether thanks to Cassia and her friends.

Cassia and her trusty familiar Stanley are on the case when three witches have disappeared from the Mirella Retirement Village. They soon find out that black magic is involved and someone might be taking their revenge on these witches due to past indiscretions.

I enjoy this series mainly in part because of Cassia. She is written as a smart, honest, and fair individual. Her personality bounces off perfectly that of her familiar Stanley who is a bit snarky and quite humorous. Like the other books in this series, you will find lots of action, adventure, humor, and a very well thought out plot line. The perfect cozy mystery to read over a long weekend.

Love really does conquer all

One witch to another, this is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. Just to know that love can win in the end makes my heart soar.
When Cassia and Stanley begin this investigation, they have no idea the dangers they're going to face are because of the exact ones their tasked with finding. Three witches have gone missing, but it's because of a curse cast some 60 years ago. And it's all their fault. The antics Stanley gets up to are hilarious. But in the end, they get to the bottom of the mystery.
This is a definite "Must Read". I thoroughly enjoyed it 😀.

Awesome story! Cassie and Stanley are off to solve the mystery of the missing witches. What they discover is Bridget, Avalon and Enid were not who Trent believed they were. Their lives were not the nicest and lots of innocents suffered because of them. The surprise twist to the story results in true love winning out. Trent see what terrible things his grandmother did and want to apologize for it. Lots of witches show up to help Trent with his mission and he gets an unusually helper.
I highly recommend this book! It is a lesson for others to see that good is better than evil!

Paranormal Cozy Mystery
This book is the 13th in the series and stands alone better than most! This is a classic cozy mystery that deals in the paranormal realm with witches, wood nymphs, satyrs, shapeshifters, vampires and so much more! It is not scary in the least bit. The author has created a very believable fantasy world for this series. It has a great plot with many suspects. The ending is unpredictable and very satisfying. I will be reading more of this series! I received this ARC book free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.

A Delightful Surprise!
This is the first book I have read by April Fernsby. I actually got a gift of another in this series and decided to give it a go. Reading her book made me feel like I was actually in the moment. The twists and turns of the plot was very intriguing. I love her familiar, Stanley, and they way she gives him human-like characteristics. Yup, definitely going to have to delve further into this series.

Very enjoyable book

This is the 13th book in the series but the first one I've read. You don't have to have read the previous books to be able to follow the storyline and plot. I will read the other 12 books over the next couple of months. The book has a good storyline and just enough magic to keep it interesting! I really like Stanley the cat, wanted to smack Trent they naive grandson of one of the villans...So I did connect with the characters. It was a fun and easy read.

There is plenty of mystery and suspects in Mirella Retirement Home so Cassia has a lot of work cut out for her especially when you throw in Trent and totally understand the headaches she gets! The fact you really don't know which way things will go and who is behind the disappearances in great and when things get revealed ...boy I was not expecting all the revelations!

Cassia and Stanley go to a retirement village to investigate the murder of three witches. But as they go through the clues they find an old spell book that suggest that a ritual was done using black magic and it suggests the reason why the blue flowers grow there.

Wonderful Read

The characters were so relatable and each had a personality that was perfect for the story. Casia had her hands full with solving another mystery. Witches, both good and evil, as well as an array of other creatures helped solve the case. I loved this book.

I read all 13 books. . .they started out fun - wound up boring. Same descriptions in every book, constantly explaining background again and again. And that dam cat! he was just plain obnoxious. most books 3 pretty much.
