"Our main mission in life is not to try and hold onto the concept of 'happiness' but rather to pursue and discover a self-worth"

This is a book that I must reread every year of my life.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Please have realistic expectations from the book before you read it. A book on its own cannot possibly change anyone's life. That's exactly what I loved about this book, because it has a lot of emphasis on action. Most "Self-help" books write endlessly on the power of positive thinking. But this one is based on Action! Loved it!

So, I initially became interested in this book, as I searched for titles that could help out a troubled family member. It caught my attention, so I gave it a go. Slightly sceptical about the thought of a self-help book, I was initially wary of Chidiac's best seller. However, I became enthralled by DC's mindset on all things life. I was attempting to make a big career change at the time which meant a lot of work outside my normal day to day - this book gave me the drive and motivation to dig a little deeper for my preparation. Although relatively happy in life (or as happy as a mildly successful, single, 20 something can be), I was enabled to outline the poorer areas of my own personality and life in order to cleanse myself of such negativity. The book uses pretty rudimentary pyschological notions, which is perfect for the reader. This makes it so straight forward to realise your downfalls...you don't need a psychology degree to know what he's getting at. The exercises worked fascinatingly well for myself. They might not be for everyone, but they definitely aided me in my own journey through life. By drawing on his own experiences with honesty and grace, DC really opens up to the readers, allowing them to greater release to his methods. A solid read.

I would recommend this book to any addict for starters, but beyond that everyone who complains of being stuck in a rut when in reality they're just playing the victim. I strongly encourage you to check your attitude when you think of a goal and say you "can't": are you playing the victim? Are you making excuses? Honestly, probably. You're capable of far more than you give yourself credit for because decades of repeating self-victimizing phrases and believing restrictive lies has actually engrained in your subconscious the belief that you can't. Change that one mindset/attitude, and the rest is mind-blowing.

In other words, "whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right."

Chidiac is not much of a writer. This book could stand a thorough editing job and a decent narrative voice so it doesn’t sound so flat. You’ll have to excuse his inflated ego, too. The book is chock full of anecdotes in which Chidiac recounts a time someone was having a problem and he swooped in and changed their lives with a few simple words. If only it was that easy. At one point he recalls seeing a homeless kid and describes an afterthought in which he decided he had the words to change this kid’s life. But when he went back the kid was gone, and he was nearly in tears. Wow. Sorry dude, but you didn’t know this kid’s circumstances. A few words weren’t going to change his life. You’re not that powerful. Major eye roll.

Having vented that, most of this book is well-intentioned, and I gave it 3 stars because of its message. He talks a lot about love and self-actualization, and that’s a good thing. Not life-changing, but still uplifting.

This is a very dense book, if you are willing to put the time into reading deeply and completing the tasks inside it. However I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to read it again to gain further insight.

Initial thoughts: This book is a lot broader in scope than I had expected! Some chapters weren't relevant to me at this point in my life but they were interesting nonetheless. The great thing is that despite that breadth, Chidiac did not sacrifice depth. The focus of Who Says You Can't? You Do is about helping readers change their mindsets and attitudes, to overcome inertia that has held them back from pursuing their goals.

Some might view this simply as holding on to "positivity" but this book goes beyond thinking and encourages action. It tells readers to take action, stop second-guessing yourself and your idea — make a plan and get going. At the same time, Chidiac offers suggestions and ideas on how to get going.

One chapter that especially intrigued me was on visualisations. Nearly all my athletic coaches in the past have told me to visualise my actions. I had learnt that doing so would help me learn my sports faster and gain better control of my body. Chidiac explained the impact of visualisations on the mind, which I thought was pretty cool.

Another important takeaway: Change is inevitable. We’re always becoming. Don’t heed accusations from others when they’re upset, “You’ve changed.” It’s important to keep growing.

I had this book lying around since 2015 when I got to read up until page 150 and then stopped because it bored me. I am currently on page 200 and will finish it because momma didn’t raise a quitter but oh boy I am really not feeling the author’s writing style. It also feels like a lot of the ideas have been quickly grasped from other self help books. I am simultaneously reading ‘Awaken the Giant Within’ by Anthony Robbins and feel like ‘Who says you can’t - You Do’ is the bad college essay version of it... sorry. Also the quotes are annoying and that you ‘have’ to do exercises before you ‘may’ continue. This style may resonate with some people but don’t I like to read at night before bed and it’s annoying when this is interrupting the flow.. also, the exercises didn’t really resonate with me.. I still give it two stars because I understand the concepts the author tries to portray.. it’s just not written the way I like. However, will resonate with people who haven’t delved into the topic of self-help and mastery before.

The first 60 pages were pretty good - but it went downhill after that. H just tries to cover too much.

My other problem is how he moves his tone over the book. He starts out as a man who is on a journey to creating a better life - and want to share what he has learned with us. But as the book moves on, he turns into the wise. You can almost feel his youthful look turning old as he writes and the wisdom begins to flow. But that left me doubting him all the more. Just started to feel sleazy - as if he was now trying to convince me that he was the expert in all things.

This book was definitely an eye opener. Tho it can be challenging to take in, Daniel Chidiac is able to level with you on the simplest of levels and get you straight to the source of your truths. The practical application is a MUST! Don't sell yourself short by trying to skip forward!

When we begin to feed that truth, our happiness gets fuller, and in that is found inner peace. There is no limit to the growth; it's a never-ending supply, because you are supplying it
Wrapping up my 2024 with this book feels bittersweet. Feels like a good wrap up in a holistic way.

I found this book to have excellent learning points. It was divided into sections where there were sections on interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships with one another. I especially liked how there were actions or exercises to be completed to ensure you are taking measurable actions into achieving what you want. It was easy to understand, did not have a religous tone to it (which I appreciated) and had clear learning points.

I think as someone who reads self development, I can appreciate an expert POV but this author seemed to praise himself so much it was quite honestly a turn off at times. Like I get it: you went through stuff so you wrote a self development book but don't toot your horn so much! Most of the aspects were also of his interactions with others and what he learnt from them, it is good but I wanted more awakenings from him. That dimmed the beauty of the book.

Overall, a good read. I do own a physical copy of this that is thicc and I am sure I will go back to read my annotations from time to time to remind myself.

And that is Mia signing off for the year 2024, here's to better books and amazing growth in 2025 🥂

I went into this book just to read all the books on my bookshelf and nothing more. To be honest I didn’t read it but skimmed it. What I got was a relentless wave of recycled self-help clichés I’ve seen everywhere. Every chapter felt like it was shouting “just believe in yourself!” without offering anything real or grounded to hold onto, and to be fair no self help book can ever offer anything but useless doses of fallacies and nonsense.
I won’t recommend it.

Who Says You Can't? You Do - Daniel Chidiac

The title and the cover page (the T erased with a eraser) is interesting but unfortunately the book did not impress me. I felt the author has read too many self help books and picked what ever he found useful or implemented in his life and made a book out of it. Too lengthy book.
I liked the narration..the quotes he has used in almost all pages and the sequence he takes the book from start to finish.
A few instances I did like in the book.. But most looked repetitive of what I already have read from other self help books.
Looking forward for more publications from him in future cause he sure has good writing skills but hope he writes his original thoughts.
If anybody stepping in for the self help genre can read this book..for its simple language and quotes.. But not recommended for people who have read famous authors on self help and motivational genre.
Can give a skip...will not miss much.

I almost DNF'd this book, but instead I skimmed through much of the end of it.

This book had some great valuable information in it (quotes, advice etc in it) but it also had some parts which I disagreed with, disliked and it felt like a waste of time to read. That's a particular shame given the genre of this book, and I just wouldn't recommend it.

His points come across as condescending and pretentious; it felt like he was preaching at me and it made me want to disregard some of his points that I actually agreed with! Also, with the greatest respect to the author, but given the style of book it was I didn't want to know what helped you, I want to know what could help me. (If you were to count the number of 'I's and 'me's in the book it would probably be an impressive number.)

Not a fan, sorry.

After reading a dozen of self help genre, I've come to a conclusion it's the same concepts in different POVs.
This one added to another astounding self help and is gladly the last one I'll read now.
-no more self help genre-
Although i started with this genre and has been a smooth explanation of tangled life experiences.
There is nothing complex in this life, if approached step by step and with unwavering faith and persistent action.

BEST SELF-HELP BOOK I've read so far, seriously!

"When you change the way you think, you change the way you feel. When you change the way you feel, you change the way you act. When you change the way you act, you change your life. It starts by changing the way you...?"

I literally fell in love with this book! This book is full of tasks that makes you think about many aspects of your life, such as fitness, relationships, dreams, jobs, faith, and more...

You want motivation? This is your book :)

Langkah ketiga - The System of Achievement - adalah persiapan awal untuk mencapai tujuan kita.

"I wanted to tell you your book has helped me out so much in life. I’ve gone through some traumatic experiences and until recently, via reading your book and a lot of self-discovery, had never made the connection with how many actions, thoughts, and emotions all shape my life. If I’m not paying attention to these I’m also not paying attention to myself and my dreams. I’ve been stuck in a job I dislike for far too long and I am currently taking steps toward working for my dream company. I study and practise the ideas you speak in your book daily and have been making it a priority, and my life is changing for the better every day! ...

“There are powers inside of you which, if you could discover and use, would make you everything you ever dreamed or imagined you could become.”
- Orison Swett Marden
Introduction

Jadi bukan cuma teori kosong belaka.
Not so long ago, I found myself in one of life’s uncertain moments. I was in my room on my knees, experiencing the physical and emotional effects of a big weekend on drugs. I had no job, no sense of direction, and had lost all hope in my ability to shape my destiny. I felt worthless to myself and the world. Just like everyone else, I wanted my life to mean something; to have the ability to make a difference in people’s lives and live by a purpose that inspired my every move; to fulfill my own desires, contribute to society, and wake up in the morning actually looking forward to the day!
Xvi

That was the only the beginning. I remember just as I was about to finish the main content of the book, I had to find an editor. Nearly everyone I spoke to rejected me. They wouldn't even take my money! I was told that I should pick a different career, that the only thing going for the book was it's title. When I got off the phone with the last editor, I broke down. I cried. I had just been working on this book for three years, and I had had some of the best editors tell me to give up on it. I left my phone at home and went to the park near my house. I was so emotional that I literally sprinted up and down until I threw up. I didn't know what else to do.
Page 16

Your Personal Contract:
I, ......................................................................................, declare that I must master my life in every area. I will no longer settle for a life that is less than what I know I deserve. I have had enough experience to know one side of life, and not it’s my time to shine. I will commit myself to enrich the quality of my life from what it is now. I will persist under any circumstance to act upon the tasks in this book, which are going to empower me forever. I will not leave any task undone. I will relentless work to empower my life and push beyond my known limits.
.....
I am ready to attain a burning desire, compelling visions, and a passion for life that rises above all else.

I invite you to do the next task, which is life-transforming:
1. Take five minutes and really reflect on those “Am I” questions. Make sure you don't rob yourself of this opportunity. These are life-changing exercises. Write these down. Don't go on task 2 until you have complete this one.
2. Now swap the “Am” and the “I” around. It should now read “I am” followed by the quality. Write them down.
3. Next, take another few minutes and reflect on the new list you have written down. Close your eyes and repeat them in your mind or say them out loud. Just make sure all your focus is on those qualities that have the power to change your life. It’s usually not being sure of who we are that causes so much confusion when it's time to make a big decision. This creates clarity.
TASK
1. Inner: We must write down what we appreciate about ourselves. Here’s a great one to get you started – the eyes that you have to read this. Also, be thankful for all the qualities you know you have access to, like love, patience, appreciation, respect, intelligence, trust, courage, faith, and so on.
2. Outer: List those things that are external but still have meaning and contribute to your life. It could be family members, a car, or shelter. Whatever it is, it’s helping you live your life, so be appreciative and take nothing for granted. Also appreciate things in nature and the world, because I dont know if you have realized, but they are actually keeping you alive. You drink water, breathe air, eat fruit. It's okay, this doesn't mean you are a “greenie” or a “a hippie”; you are just opening up your eyes.
3. ......?......: Stick to appreciating the first two now, and we will get to the third as we go long.
Page 36

Only those few who take action get the results that everyone else dreams about.
Stop, go back. You are not to read on until this task is completed. These tasks are designed to properly train your mind and ease you into the process as everyone else who gained abundance in their life has done. Not reading on just yet is also a great the of patience – a quality that is necessary to achieve what you set out for. Take action on this, or else you learn nothing. Appreciate on a daily basis and create that time to shine.
Page 38

As you go through each of these questions, focus on them individually for a few moments. Don’t rush, but really focus on finding answers. They are life-changing.
1. What drives you every day, and what is the basis of your decisions?
2. What are you going to do today that was different from yesterday, which will ultimately shape who you are tomorrow?
3. What are the life-changing decisions you are committed to making today that will produce the results you so desperately want?
4. What’s at least one thing that you can change about your life right now that will prevent a lifetime of pain and generate a never-ending supply of pleasure?
5. How can I...
• Be healthy and fit?
• Attract that person of my dreams?
• Get that rush in life?
• Experience different emotions?
• Push myself that extra mile?
• Get that car?
• Take control over my life?
Page 17

Kalimat-kalimatnya argumentatif, persuasif, dan terasa sekali kebenarannya.
We seem to be blind to the powerful part of the word, “acknowledgment.” We can have all the knowledge in the world, have ten university degrees, have traveled the globe, or know how to speak five different languages, but is we don't have true knowledge of ourselves, we will never create the life we want.
Page 20

Penuh dengan inspirasi juga, misalnya yang ini.
Getting into a state of appreciation and a state of certainty at the beginning of your day is the quickest way to be inspired and create a lifetime of everlasting energy.
Page 35

Here is a strategy and simple experiment that might help you out...
1. CONCEPT: Close your eyes and visualize holding a piece of paper in front of your face with your name written on it. Do this for ten seconds. See the letters and feel the paper, but only in your mind. This is only a mental vision, so make sure you do nothing physically.
....
Page 45

These are a few common conflicts I have come across in my time. It’s like one thing is pulling us one way, while something else is tugging on the other side. With all this confusion, how can we ever get what we want? Here is an extremely effective strategy when you find yourself in one of these situations.
1. IDENTIFY: First, you must discover and get to the bottom of the conflict. Have a clear indication of what you want, and be aware of what other beliefs are stopping you. An example would be the list we just went through.
2. QUESTION: Next, you need to question what you have identified. Which one is more important to you? Which one is going to have more meaning in your life? Which one can enhance the quality of your life? Which one helps you create more energy and take action toward the bigger picture?
......
Page 50

Ada pula tips-tips, misalnya
TEN TIPS TO A SUCCESSFUL FITNESS REGIMED
Tip 1: Get Started
Get yourself a personal trainer if you can afford one, even for half an hour a week, so you can get some idea of how to train properly. Make sure they are good-references are usually the best way to find them. ....
Tip 2: Make Sure You Have Fun
Tell your trainer not to get overexcited and kill you in the first session. You will get scared off and probably find the energy to run home as fast as you can and never return.....
Tip 3: Music
....
Page 255

Neuroscientist Alvaro Pascual-Leone’s experiment at Harvard Medical School on this topic was quite remarkable. All the participants had to do was learn and practice a five-finger piano excercise.
He instructed the first group to play the piano and try to keep the same tempo as best they could. They practised for two hours a day over five consecutive days. When they were finished, the participants were seated under a coil of wire that sent a suddent magnetic pulse into the motor cortex of the brain. There is a strip that runs from the top of the head to each ear that makes this possible. This procedure is called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and it gives information on the function of neurons.

Panja grew up in a small village in the south of Thailand with twelve siblings and his parents. Living in an area where money didnt have a major role, they lived off the land. We in the West would classify this as poor, but to most of the people who live there, this is a rich lifestyle that they wouldn't give up for big city life. As a child, Panja would catch fish with a bamboo....
Page 271

Tidak menjual mimpi, mengatakan apa adanya.
There will be a lot of people and many books, documentaries, and seminars that try to sugarcoat achievement. I even heard one speaker and author say that we can “manifest effortlessly” when it comes to what we want. If you ever hear anything like this and believe it, realize you are setting your self up for a big disappointment. There never has been, and never will be, an easy way of achieving something great.
Page 116

English:
It’s not a great book but not an awful one. I think he has great ideas but he found trouble expressing them.
I hate the chapter 21 (Inteligent eating) because he is neither a certified nutritionist nor an MD, so he is not capable of giving nutrition advice.
Dont believe that thing about taking alkaline products to regulate our pH, we already have 3 beautiful organs doing that job (kidneys, liver).

The book is trying to transform the way people think. Namely focus on the positive side of the things and be grateful for what you have. In a way it is similar to concepts that are in books similar to the "The Secret" however the author offers some practical tests. What is good is that the book actually is geared towards taking action. Which is great and I am full onboard with that. The reason for only the 3 stars is that some of the concepts didn't resonate with me and I thought as contradictory.

For me the best part of the book is the conversation with the monk Dr. Boondham, what the monk talks about it is part of the Buddhist teachings and if you look deep into the meaning, it is the crux of the most of the things.

Some concepts that stood out for me from the book:
- be grateful for the things you have and begin your day with gratitude
- belief that whatever you want to achieve is doable and you will be able to do it
- don't act like a victim, take responsibility in what is happening in your life
- you got to align your actions, thinking process and body language to achieve your goals

Overall, there were some solid points in this book to help a journey of self-growth. I liked the organization in terms of the steps and exercises, as well as the quotes embedded throughout the book. What I didn’t like is that the author continuously brought the narrative back to him, his personal experiences, and his coaching successes. I understand he’s establishing his ethos and credibility, but I get it. I would rather uncover more strategies and understand the overall purposes and impacts of these strategies.
