Op de Beeck's narrative of Napoleon is one of adoration. But as someone who learned about Napoleon in high school, portrayed as a mad man, this book is more than welcome. Brilliantly written, reads like a train, sometimes funny, sometimes dramatic. Despite the chronogical order, it's also thematic. Can't wait for part 2. For the podcast listeners: some passages are literally the same, but the book has so much, much more to offer.
