Two Fates

Rate this book
Jamie and Ian recognized they were destined mates as teenagers. Heedless of their pack’s objections, they loved fully and recklessly. When Ian perished in a senseless accident a decade later, Jamie’s grief was so consuming he almost died too, but in the years since, Jamie learned to cope. Though his heart is empty, he finds purpose in teaching shifter craft to pack whelps and carving bone to offer for trade. His is a quiet life, his peace hard-won. The pack seer’s alarming prophecy at Jamie’s birth assured Jamie he would love again, but what he shared with Ian...That magic only happens once.

Kenneth—pack newcomer and presumptive alpha—disagrees. Instinct led him to Kentucky after Ian’s death tore Jamie’s world apart. While Kenneth would’ve done anything to spare Jamie the agony of Ian’s loss, Kenneth will also never deny what drove him to Burnt Fork in the first place: Jamie is his destined mate.

Can one man have two fates? The pack lore Jamie teaches suggests that is possible, but Jamie alone must decide if finding the courage to love again is a blessing...or his curse.

Ms. Gregg is a huge hit or miss for me, and this was a definite miss. I couldn't get past 51%. This story was rife with redundancy and a hellacious amount of too much tell vs. show. I basically didn't like anyone in the book, especially our focal protagonist Jamie, and interesting supporting characters were practically nonexistent. Very little world building and a dull, rather strange shifter culture.

Wow, this book read so fast for me, I just wasn’t ready for it to end. 😢
I loved this book but the only thing I would have like more was some wooing between Kenneth and Jamie. I would have liked to feel Jamie truly fall head over heels for Kenneth. 😉

This book was a quick, easy read and a bit emotional at times. This story could have been so much more if it didn’t feel so rushed at the end. I felt with all the time everything took in the beginning, that the prophecy would be given some time as well, but IMO it felt rushed. Other than that it was good :)

Kari Gregg delves deep into the world of wolf shifters and gives it her own unique spin. Two Fates hinges on the idea that a wolf can have not one, but two fated mates and explores how that can be possible. This is a highly emotional story with some intense moments, including the death of Jamie’s first love, Ian. Jamie’s anger and bitterness over how he and Ian were treated by his parents and the entire pack spills over into his grief that spans over two years. We are reminded more than once that most wolves follow their mates into death, but the pack is determined to right the wrong they did to Jamie and keep him alive in order for him to mate again, this time to the new alpha, Kenneth, who will succeed Jaime’s father as leader. But Jamie’s sadness and grudge against his pack runs deep and Kenneth has his work cut out for him if he is ever to win the man over.

Wow

4.5 ⭐️

Wow, this one blew me away, it wasn’t over the top or fast paced but conveyed the theme of second chances so very well, that had me wanting to finish it to find out how they all worked out.

This was an emotional read for me, I connected with Jamie as his pain and anger were very well done. I understood him and his reactions as I am stubborn like him and can carry a mean grudge, and I understood his confusion with his feelings towards the rest of the pack.

Ian was a great character and so very strong, he knew his time on earth was short and did everything he could to try and ease Jamie’s way.

Kenneth has the patience of a saint, and it was great to see his strength in being able to wait for Jamie and let him grieve Ian. He never ignored Ian’s presence and discussed him openly, allowing Jamie to feel free to talk about him and still love him, without the guilt.

The pack really needed to try and do more to bridge the gap between Jamie/Ian and the pack. Once they knew they had made a mistake more needed to be done to bring them back into the fold. The boys lived in near poverty, surely the pack could of traded better with them and gave them more things.

I’m so glad I took a chance on this one.

Not up to her usual strength

Kari Gregg is a must read for me, and this book did not live up to me expectations. I was shocked that I really kind of disliked Jamie. What a grudge holder. I was over it much before the book got over it. Also, the jamie/Kenneth prophesy was resolved so quickly without any issue, I thought for sure it was a feint. Wrong, little depth and little to bind any of these characters to me. I was disappointed because now I have to wait so long for her next book, and hopefully it will redeem her.

Reading Jamie's struggles the second time was harder than it was the first time. I didn't quite feel the connection between Jamie and Kenneth.

Rating: 4.5 stars
The whole first half of the book was very difficult to read.

After Ian’s death, the pain and suffering that Jamie went through was hard to read, but I think the relationship that he had with his father and the pack was even harder to read. I wanted so much for Jamie to let go of his pain and resentment but was also glad that he didn’t miraculously get better once his second fated mate showed up. Too many times matings in novels are used as the cure all for everything, so it’s always nice to read a book where that doesn’t happen. I loved that Kenneth was so patient and understanding with Jamie and let him have his time to grieve. He was the type of Alpha that I really like. Authoritative without being mean and overbearing.

Despite the fact that this was by no means a feel-good book, I still loved reading it. It kept me riveted and I couldn’t put it down once I started it.

This author is a favorite of mine and she does great world building. This was an interesting story but not as much of a romance as I would have liked. It's there but it takes a longer time to build because Jamie for most of the story is still hung up on his first love. Its a tough story to tell but I guess I wanted more of a connection between Jamie and Kenneth. Kenneth is a good patient alpha, he does all he can to provide for Jamie but of course he can do nothing about the grief. In the end they achieve the goal which is to save Jamie from a prophecy, and Kenneth says 'does this mean you love me' to which Jamie sort of things 'I guess so' (I'm paraphrasing). Not the big declaration we hope for, but still an enjoyable read and enjoyable shifter story. 3.5 stars!

I have read twelve other books by Kari Gregg and only four of them were rated 4 or more stars, which was very surprising to me because I tend to gravitate toward her work. Despite, the fact that I don't seem to like it very much I'm always on the lookout for her work and when I noticed this book just languishing on my laptop I just couldn't help picking it up.

This is a very simple story and personally, I needed a little bit more from it. I feel like it needed a little bit more magic to make it surreal.

The book is about Jamie, a shifter who is burdened with the knowledge that he has not one but two destined mates. Jamie is fated to be the mate of the next Alpha but he can't deny the mate right in front of him, Ian. Even though their mating might be doomed before it's ever really begun Ian and Jamie defy their pack to be with each other but with every year together, Ian's dying day draws closer.

When Ian dies, Kenneth finds his way to his fated mate, Jamie only to find a man struggling with the grief of losing his mate but Kenneth is patient and he'll make sure that Jamie knows that he can find love again.

As I said before, this story is very simple. There is very little to it but I feel like there is a little bit of magic in the way it's told because reading this story and recognising the difficulties that Jamie and Kenneth face was also very touching and rewarding. We see how much Jamie is hurting because their pack and his own father turned their back on Ian and him and he's really prickly about it but slowly and steadily he begins to heal. Though the ache he carries will be with him till his dying day, he begins to move forward and accept love into his life again.

Jamie and Kenneth are the most practical pairing in romance ever, I don't think there is any doubt that these two will make it primarily because Kenneth is so understanding and patient. I feel these two traits are very undervalued but their existence makes the most difference in relationships.

Jamie, on the other hand, is a human hedgehog he doesn't want anyone to come close and underneath it all, he doesn't realise how much that's hurting him. It was amazing seeing the reconciliation between the pack and Jamie because it isn't a one-off event it's a long drawn out process and some aches are relieved better than others.

Jamie and Ian, are the personification of young love when your life is full of light and happiness when your life has not yet been marred by the hazards of living while Kenneth and Jamie are a different sort of love, more mature, more adult, more aware of the dangers of life and more willing to forgive love's imperfections and isn't that something.

With the story and book, I feel like you need to find it at the right time because I feel like if I was reading this anytime before this very moment I don't think I would have liked it at all let alone as much as I do now.

This book is more of a journey about living through grief and accepting love even after it's done a number on you and it might not be for everyone but it is a beautiful story.

Two Fates is a heart wrenching tale of loss and finding love again. Author Kari Gregg bring out all the feels for me in this book. I could not stop reading it. So many emotions.
Jamie had a once in a life time love with his mate Ian. He had a relationship no one in the pack not even his own parents condoned. Ian was his best friend and first in everything. When he dies the pack wants Jamie back again. But he cannot forgive and forget what they put him and Ian through. I cannot say I blame him. He had a ton of hurt from what everyone did.
He is a good soul who risked it all for love.
Kenneth his grandmother was a seer. He has the gift too just not as strong as she did. But he has always known Jamie was his mate. He was born an Alpha. He can feel the pain Jamie is in and wants to help him.
I loved Kenneth he is kind, patient, and understanding.
Overall this book is one I will not forget anytime soon. The chemistry, love, and emotional pull in this book is unforgettable. I really recommend a box of tissues handy when you read this one and sometime to really read and get into this story. It is well worth the read.

I enjoyed this story overall, but I got a little tired of Jamie making it all about himself. HE got to go on; HE got to live and love again. Sure, it wasn't easy and there was lots of pain and angst, but IAN really got the short end of things. He loved Jamie even knowing it would mean his death, and he was always all about Jamie. Even dealing with the pack that had turned its back on them he did for Jamie so Jamie wouldn't be alone when Ian died. Jamie seemed to feel a lot more sorry for himself than he did for Ian. Just saying. I loved Kenneth and his patience with Jamie, loved the way the pups kept him alive, and even Jamie's da did everything he could to hang on and give Jamie time to heal before having to mate again, even though HE was suffering with cancer and wanted to be with his deceased mate again. So, while I liked the story, I found Jamie to be selfish. I'm not sure what could have changed that and still kept to the storyline; maybe showing more of Jamie's care and mourning for Ian, rather than just telling us he grieved.

Two Fates by Kari Gregg is a wonderful reading experience. It's the story of shifter Jamie and his fate of having two mates. No, not at same time, but of a second chance mate after the loss of his first mate. I got emotional reading this story of tremendous love even through the pain. I loved Ian and Jamie even though I know Ian had an early goodbye in 5he story... that sweet first love, strong and unwavering. They couldn't deny their love and took any time they had to be together, nomatter what the cost. And Ian lord Jamie enough to think of what he needed in the future without him. Then enters Kenneth and I am in love again. He is a strong and wonderful Alpha who can see what his mate needs and gives him that time and space, even though he must have been hurt in a way too at how fate played out. Oh but the story was fantastic... sweet and beautiful and I loved every minute.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

“I’m not the mate the seer saw for you.”

I don’t often read books where one gets a second chance with a second mate and is still so badly grieving from the loss of the first mate. I really, really enjoyed following Jamie through his tough, heartbreaking loss. It hurt my heart that he was so painfully struggling with the loss of his first mate, but I loved how Kenneth supported him the whole time.

“Then I’ll win you again,” Kenneth sighed, squeezing Jamie tight in his arms. “And again and again.”
“Please don’t give up on me.”
“Never.”

Kenneth was patient and understanding and I even felt bad for him. Having to see his mate struggle and there was nothing he could do but wait.

This was a wonderful, beautiful, and even heartbreaking story. Minus the “shifting” parts I found this story to be quite believable and thought to myself several times, “this would really happen”. I enjoyed all the seer’s prophecy’s and am glad it all worked out in the way it did. Once again, making it more believable and realistic.

Two Fates was a beautiful yet heart wrenching so, get those tissues ready.

Jamie and Ian’s love was sweet, deep yet intense. These two loved each other despite the clock ticking and their love shined ever so brightly. My heart shattered when everything was ripped away from Jamie - his pain, sadness and broken heart echoed in the most haunting of ways. My eyes welled up for everything Jamie lost.

Kenneth is Jamie’s second chance at love yet will Jamie’s broken heart accept another?

Kenneth was a patient alpha yet I couldn’t help but compare him to Ian. Ian knew how hard it would be for Jaime yet he prepared the best he could to ensure his mate would survive his loss. Kenneth was opposite to Ian in many ways yet his love for Jaime was just as strong.

The Pack Seer predicts Jamie will have two mates one of which will be the future Alpha.
Jamie and Ian had grown up as friends but realized young they were Fated Mates. The Alpha and the elders try to push them apart as Jamie is prophesied to be the Fated Mated of the next Pack Alpha and Ian is not a future Pack Alpha. A sixteen they creep off and mate anyway and are shunned by the pack. Living in a neutral area they have a happy but hard life until ten years later when Ian is killed by a mountain lion. Kenneth arrives several days later and sees his future mate distraught with grief and knows he will have to wait while his mate grieves. A shifter MM romance to relax and enjoy.

Too short for subject matter.

This one is not going to be a favorite story from Kari Gregg. There are a few editing errors but they don’t jar you out of the story. The story is well written and my complaints are more for personal preference so I gave it 4 stars but...
It didn’t seem complete and seemed rather rushed at the end. Would have liked a few more details about life with his first mate with happy memories. Most of the discussions about and with Ian (first mate/fate) are not happy - not including the actual mating. And the matting with Kenneth seems more a practical matter even through to the end of the story.

2 fated mates for Jamie, Ian the mate of his heart from his first breath it seemed. Jamie and Ian mate at 16 and are cast out of their pack as the seer saw Jamie mated to the next alpha of their pack.
This is Jamie's story. Life leads us in many ways and people are in our lives for a season, some a lifetime.
I loved this story, it touch on the many errors we can make as parents, friends and the need to not let the mistakes blind us with rage and hate, as they only harm us.

Jamie knows from a young age that he’s destined to have two mates and he fights it. He know he’ll lose his first love to find the second. Losing Ian absolutely shatters Jamie and in the middle of mourning that love , his second fated mate shows up. One of the things I liked about this story is that Jamie doesn’t get over his hurt and being mad easy . He holds onto it and fights his second mate throughout the story. Eventually they do get their hea. I would like to read a follow up to there characters.

I reached for my tissues a couple of pages into the book...so be warned.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved her characters , however I wish we could really get know them more...

All in all it was a beautiful read about second chances , and how some loves burn passionately and blazingly, while others come softly, with time and comfort.

Dear Kari Gregg, Thank you for this book, it is as good as all your werewolf-novels and I Hope that there are many more to come. Stay strong!

This emotional little stunner is a love story more than a romance. Its more about connection on far deeper levels than mere attraction, and its about being there for the long-haul.

Its about the highs and lows of life and love and the fundamental truths of love in all its iterations: lovers, family, friends. Community.

And if you're a believer in Fate, well it seems Fate manages to "recalculate" when HEA is a thing only found in fiction.

Really liked this one

I have really enjoyed shifter books by this author. Most of her books in this genre feature shifters that are really driven by instinct and their shifter drive has a major impact on how they understand the world. This book follows Jamie through the loss of his first mate and then through to his second mate, Kenneth, who was really patient with his grief process.

4.5 stars Two Fates will hurt your heart, make you smile, and Kenneth will make you swoon. Ian and Jamie were beautiful together, my heart hurt for them over and over. As the book progresses you see heartache not only for a lover but for loved ones and family too. But you will also see care and devotion and wanting to make things right. Kenneth is beyond amazing and so good for Jamie. My only wish is to see them again in the future.

I really enjoyed this! I'm not that versed in shifter lore, it's just not a genre I've read much of, so it was cool to be more immersed in all the wolf stuff. :) I looooooooooooved Kenneth. He was so fantasic, and swoony, and just...solid. He was exactly what Jamie needed to start to move past losing Ian. So, yeah, tons of fun. Definitely recommend!

Complex and well written

I truly enjoy all of the books I have read from Kari Gregg. The writing is taut and moves just the right way for whatever storyline the book has, angst is deep and true- again, where warranted, never gratuitous, and the characters are people. Not shadows. Kudos to the author and please don't stop!

Another Amazing Story

This was a wonderful read! The anguish Jamie endures and the hope Kenneth brings is palpable in every pages of this book! If only the story could go on. True to Gregg's style one is left to make up their own version of what happens when the main characters ride into the sunset.😃

Worth the Tears

Yes, there is a strong bittersweet flavor to the early parts but, as usual, Kari Gregg tells a fine and satisfying story. Messy feelings that have to be struggled with makes even shifters all too human.
