Rate this book
A spicy attraction, a sweet small town, a tasty mystery…all the right ingredients for a delectable romance.
Jemima George leads a charmed life in New York City as a personal chef to reality T.V.'s latest darling. But all that changes when her Aunt Caro suddenly dies under odd circumstances—bequeathing her a small café in picturesque New England. Despite her attractions to a deliciously sexy local contractor, Jem intends to sell it and continue her fast-paced career—until her cheating boyfriend causes her to re-think her recipe for happiness. . .
Jack Kerrigan considered Caro a surrogate mother and hates the idea of selling the cafe. But he loves the idea of beautiful, intriguing Jem staying in town as long as possible. If it means remodeling the cafe, Jack's all in. And when his jealous ex-wife, a shady attorney, and a slew of secrets threaten to extinguish Jack and Jem's simmering attraction, they might just add heat to a romance that's heading toward a full boil. . .

Gemma's favorite desk accessories for many years were a circular wooden token, better known as a 'round tuit,' and a fortune from a fortune cookie proclaiming her a lover of words; some day she'd write a book. All it took was a transfer to the United Kingdom, the lovely English springtime, and a huge dose of homesickness to write her first novel. Once it was completed and sent off with a kiss even the rejections, addressed to 'Dear Author', were gratifying.
After returning to America, she spent a number of years as a copywriter, dedicating her skills to making insurance and the agents who sell them sound sexy. Eventually, her full-time job as a writer interfered with her desire to be a writer full-time and she left the world of financial products behind to pursue an avocation as a romance author.
Her gamble paid off when she was a 2012 Finalist in the prestigious Golden Pen contest for Romantic Suspense and she received contracts for her first and second book.

****Lyrical Press provided me with a copy of this book for my honest review****
I am a sucker for a food related romance, so the title of this one sucked me in . This book started off fast, immediately you are thrown into the present. Jem's Auntie has passed away suddenly and her life is in turmoil as she has been left her Aunties café. Her boyfriend soon to be fiancé turns out to be not so nice so this ends up being a gift at a new sort of life. Throw in the delicious contractor hired to fix up the café and you have a recipe for an interesting romance.
I liked a lot of things about this book. The characters were well written and warm, the setting was the kind I like. The writing flowed and but sometimes I admit to wishing it was a bit faster. I did feel that the storyline was a bit predictable, so the mystery wasn't really a mystery. Everything was sort of alluded to right from the start....although I would like to find out about her aunts mysterious illness. Lets face it, its the romance that I read this book for and it was a good one. Jack and Jem had chemistry that lead to many steamy scenarios. I liked them as a couple and enjoyed reading how they got their happily ever after.
This was a satisfying read.

I rarely dip my toes into contemporary romance, but I'm so happy I picked up this one. First off, DAMN can Ms. Brocato write a kissing scene. Our hero, Jack, is hot as hell and his kisses made my toes curl. The romantic conflict involving Jack's ex put my panties in a bunch more than once, but I absolutely adored that very public moment where Jack makes it plain and clear who he really loves.

If you're looking for a small town, heartwarming and sexy read, this is your book. The setting, the welcoming atmosphere of Granite Pointe, reminded me a little of where I live in a small southern town where family and friends are meant to be cherished and protected. I'm anxious to what else Brocato has to offer in her Five Senses series. And I hope ALL her heroes kiss like Jack. ;)

A highly enjoyable read! Jem blows into town on the heels of heartache and finds Jack, a hunky hero whose patience and caring are epic. I loved them as a couple and will be thinking about their love story for days! The romantic elements of the story were perfectly woven into a tale filled with suspense. The characters were well fleshed out and I connected with even the secondary players. Hopefully, I'll see more of them in the second book of the series! Five stars from me.

If the writing wasn’t always that good, and some things felt a bit too much, there were a lot of very good elements in this book.

First of all, mental health was explored through the female character’s intense claustrophobia, and how her love interest learns to deal with it. It was fascinating, and created a deep relationship between the characters–they understand and take care of each other.

There was also a bit of suspense here, and though the resolution is rushed, it permeates through the whole book, starting right at the beginning. It isn’t a romantic suspense per se, more a small town romance, but there definitely are vilains and some mystery going on.

For balance, there are a lot of good feelings–acceptance, support, family love, friendship, conflict resolution… It can even feel as a bit too sweet at times. But I thought the balance between bad things, good feelings, and sexy, was good enough. I was never bored.

Quickie

- Series: Five senses #1 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #kitchen romance #small town romance #blue collar #suspense
- Triggers: depiction of severe claustrophobia, some violence, mention of cheating, emotional abuse, past death
- Main couple: Jemima George & Jack Kerrigan
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 5/5
- + a good feel of what living in a small town feels like
- – the writing wasn’t always up to par

I reviewed this book for my blog, Sundae With Nuts http://www.cdbrennan.com/2014/02/sund...

Cooking Up Love is Book 1 of the Five Senses series, where Miss Gemma has creatively tied each to one of the five sense organs of the human body: vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. And within that clever premise, she builds a romance that blossoms around that sensation. For Cooking Up Love? You guessed it! Taste. Jemima George (love the name!) is a professional chef after all.

It may surprise you that Cooking Up Love is Miss Gemma's debut as it reads much better. It's written with a confident voice and lacking so many of the cliche's that normally seem to fill early romancers. Hers is an honest, humorous and clear storytelling voice, that very much reminds me of Nora Roberts. In all the good ways. You cannot deny the queen of romance and Miss Gemma has a style that I can connect to, just like our gazillionaire Nora.

She sets the series in the small town of Granite Pointe on the eastern seaboard outside of Boston. One of Miss Gemma's greatest strengths is with her characterization, how the internal and external struggles with Jem and Jack propel the story forward. They are believable characters that do real things. Not extraordinary that make you roll your eyes, thinking "that never happens" but real likable people that you root for because you've been there yourself. Well except for Jem's claustrophobia - but I have the same deathly fear of heights, so I can relate girl! Now, I just need a bit of kissy kissy to keep me preoccupied on a plane...LOL

I also know by my sneaky-peaky of the next book in the series to be released in May 2014, Hearts in Harmony, that the characters are all linked, and we get to check in with the HEAs from earlier books to know they are all going well. I love this about series writing, because in a good romance you invest so much of your heart into the hero and heroine, just like in Cooking Up Love. Another strength in Miss Gemma's storytelling, and one I consider the most important in romance writing.

But Cooking Up Love is also about the mystery. With a couple layers of suspenseful elements, it becomes a page-turner and the reader is engaged and committed to the end. I don't want to ruin anything here for you, but suffice to say that the combination of who-dunnit in a small town setting where everyone knows...well everyone...things can still turn out as you least expect it.

A couple of my favorite quotes from the book:
"When she caught sight of his lean fingers tracing pencil marks on the plans, or pointing out something he'd changed since the last time they met, she found herself breathless, imagining how wonderful those fingers would feel trailing over her body." - I love man's hands. LOL

"No question, if she got involved with him it was going to be a complicated, crowded relationship. It would be her, plus Jack, plus all their baggage and damage from other loves." - Because ain't that the way?

The best part about CUL is there are four more books to come! Well done, Miss Gemma. I give Cooking Up Love 5 Cherries (to top all of those wonderful pies).

What a fun and sexy read this turned out to be. Full of romance and suspense, “Cooking Up Love” is a well-written, engaging and entertaining. I liked both protagonists, Jack and Jem. The romance between them was flirty and very sexy. Okay, I lied. I loved Jack. Sexy doesn’t begin to describe him. The fact that he’s a carpenter, basically my go-to dream man, well let’s just say he’d look amazing with a hammer in his hand with or without clothes on. Sorry, sorry…back to my review. A-hem. With the story being told from both H/h’s POV, I loved reading Jack’s, especially how he knew right from the start that Jem was the woman for him. They were both open and honest right from the start about their feelings for each other. I so appreciated how Jack told Jem once and for all how he wanted nothing to do with his ex-wife, Tessa, and that he wouldn’t talk about her anymore or tolerate any jealous angst Jem might throw his way because he had no feelings for her, only for Jem. Even better, Jem accepted his explanation and they moved on with their relationship. Instead of injecting any ridiculousness or formulaic angst that would take up so many pages, the author went the route (a big thank you by the way) of bringing it all out in the open and being honest about it. I also enjoyed the supporting characters, mainly Jack’s family, and the town they all reside in. Why four stars and not five? The mystery pertaining to the environmental group which resulted in the death of Jem’s brother didn’t come across as suspenseful as was intended. It was obvious right from the start that Grant (the lawyer) had something to do with it. You couldn’t get away from it. Yes, there was a shocker at the end, but whatever suspense the author tried to create throughout the story just did not work. That being said, having really enjoyed “Cooking Up Love”, I most definitely plan on reading the rest of the series.

I enjoyed this book for many reasons. The foremost is that Gemma Brocato managed to change my mind about the heroine's decision to give up her fun job in NYC as a personal assistant to a chef on a cooking show to settle down and run a cafe in a small New England town. At first I couldn't believe anyone would want to give up an exciting life to run a cafe (projecting much?), but then the small town characters began to really grow on me. Especially Jack. He was yummy. And so very kind. He wasn't one of those brash, manly take charge Alpha types that make me roll my eyes and wonder what the heroine sees in him - except killer abs. Instead, he was a compassionate, intelligent, somewhat damaged man who knew what he needed to become whole again. With killer abs.

Jem's character was a bit more complicated. I couldn't figure out what she ever saw in her cheating ex, but maybe it was all the drama of living in NYC when she was really a small town girl at heart. As the story went on, she blossomed under Jack's patient wooing.

Then there's the mystery. One of the best parts of the novel. Plain romance can get boring for me, but Ms. Brocato spiced up this tale with a mysterious death and a few shady characters that kept me guessing until the end who was behind it all.

I loved Jack's ex wife. Whenever she called Jem "Mrs. Butterworth" I couldn't help bursting out into laughter.

This book is a great read for a winter's afternoon with a cup of tea and a blanket to snuggle beneath.

Despite what I saw as a few major flaws, I mostly enjoyed the book. The story not really what I was hoping for, but that wasn't actually one of its problems. The lead was annoying much of the time, the conflict between her and the love interest contrived, and the ending was super rushed.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, but it wasn't horrible. It's a light read with fake intrigue and ridiculous conflict, but there are a few attempts at being heartwarming that almost succeed.

For this review, I read the book, Cooking Up Love by Gemma Brocato, which is the first book I have read by this author. This is Book #1 in the Five Senses Series. I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

I fell in love with the characters, Jack, Jem, Sam, and Resa. Jem had trust issues to deal with when she was getting involved with Jack. Now Jack would never do that to her, but her ex-boyfriend did a number on her self esteem. While I was reading, I kept thinking how would I feel if the guy I like had an ex-wife that kept hanging on him and kissing him? I know I would not like it at all, but I would be thinking what is up with this ex-wife of his? I mean really she ended the marriage in a not so nice way!

I love the love advice that Margo gave Jem before she left her job. I love reading books like this one because it reminds me how lucky I have it with my husband.

I am looking forward to reading Book #2, Hearts in Harmony, and Book #3 Exposed to Passion in this series. I love the small town of Granite Point, where everyone helps each other.

Gemma Brocato delivers a fun, breezy romance with her debut release. Jemima George inherits a café from her deceased aunt and uproots herself from fast-paced New York to assume ownership in the small town of Granite Pointe, MASS. Part of that decision is based upon a slimy cheating ex and the hot, sexy contractor she hires to whip the café into shape.

Jack Kerrigan has an equally slimy cheating ex in his past, and it isn’t long before these two find they have a more in common than sizzling attraction…despite Jack’s ex-wife doing everything in her warped power to convince him he needs to reunite with her.

The romance is flirty and sexy, and there is a dash of mystery to compound matters as Jem tries to unravel her late aunt’s connection to a questionable environmental group. Several secondary characters add fun, mayhem and danger, making COOKING UP LOVE an enjoyable romantic read.

I thought overall it was a really nice story. For me, it started a little slow and picked up closer to the end of the book. My favorite part of the story was Jack's family and the town becoming Jem's family. Their words and actions touched my heart and I felt the love they have for Jem. The mystery aspect of the book wasn't as strong as it could have been. You knew from the start Grant was up to something, but I didn't pick up on the vibe from Irene so she was a surprise - I thought Tessa and Grant were up to something. I will definitely check out the next book in the series. I was kind of hoping Sam and Jem's friend Resa become an item!!

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

What a wonderful and quick read “Cooking Up Love” was for me. It was just the thing that I needed atruegemawardto make me smile and bring me out of the beginning of winter doldrums! I absolutely enjoyed the storyline and the supporting characters surrounding both of them made the book light and easy to read. A Chef and a Contractor – who would have thought that two occupations so far removed from each other would mix so well.

Jemima has problems. She works for a high-strung reality TV star, the Aunt that she loved with her whole heart has passed away under mysterious circumstances, she’s inherited a restaurant that needs lots of work and she doesn’t want, her parents want nothing to do with her and, she’s claustrophobic! Geez, a woman with all these problems shouldn’t have to put up boyfriend who can’t keep his junk in his trunk and a co-worker who deliberately ass-dials her so she could hear him screwing around with her? Hell, no! Time to move on and what better way than to keep the restaurant, remodel it and re-open with the help of her friends and one sexy contractor. A man that started stealing her heart when he helped her through an attack while locked in the pantry with her. How, you may ask? With a sizzling hot kiss that took her mind (and body) away from the situation.

And, how about Jack? What kind of problems could he have? Only one – a crazy ex-wife that will do whatever it takes to get him back. Seems that whenever he thinks he finds a woman he could maybe get to know better, she come slithering back into his life and convinces him that she’s changed. See, if she can’t have him, no one can. Oh, did I happen to mention that she’s a cheating ex-wife? But something about Jem is different. She’s open, fun, loving, fits right in and stole his heart.

Nothing that the bitch can say will get him to leave Jem and he’ll do whatever it takes to get Jem to see that. Now, how does he protect her from everything that is going on? His lunatic ex-wife is throwing bricks through the front windows of the newly-opened restaurant, spraying graffiti all over the new counters and has now kidnapped her. Or did she?
The mystery all unfolds and Jemima realizes that she is really in love with Jack, her Aunt died because of a secret that she was trying to bring out into the open and learns that the people that she trusted, can’t be trusted at all. At least she has a new family and wonderful friends that will always be there for her and a man that loves her as much as she does him.

Yes, I liked this story. It was fun, light and very well-written. The story moved along at a really nice pace. The sex scenes were light and true to form – one thing that I can’t stand is sex thrown in for the sake of sex – and that was definitely not the case with “Cooking Up Love”.
Yea, Jem gave in and poor Jack got relief … I really was starting to feel sorry for him. But, more than anything, Gemma Brocato humanized her characters which really endeared me to this story. Jack was so in-tune with Jemima and her claustrophobia, even when making love. Jem had real fears and handled them the best that she could. Real people, real problems, real solutions equal a good book with lovable characters and a story-line that rings true to life.

I was so excited to finally get the opportunity to read this series and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Now I see what all the hype was about. I so loved this book!!!!

I couldn't help but fall in love with Jack and Jem. Those two were so perfect together. I loved how open and caring Jack was. He was every womans fantasty super hero. He can rescue me anytime!! Now Jem, what a sweetheart! She is so warm hearted, caring, and an all around wonderful person. I could see being friends with someone like her. She was a joy to read about.

This book is written as multi pov. I could have used a wee bit more of Jack's pov but what there was of it, I loved. There was a few editing issues, extra or deleted words, etc. that should have been caught in editing, and it did distract me, but I was able to easily get back into the story.
I could not help being drawn in by Jack and Jem.

I can not wait to read more of this series! This was so well written. The storyline was great, the characters were so easy to fall in love with and to follow, and the dialogue was so engaging that I felt as if I was part of the conversation.

All in all a super great read.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!

Would I read more from this author? Absolutely!! Chomping at the bit to read book 2, 3, 4, etc...

Gemma Brocato has done a great job of merging contemporary romance with comedy in Cooking Up Love. The book also incorporates a mystery/thriller element which had me intrigued from the start.

Jem is a chef and assistant for reality TV's latest celebrity in New York. After inheriting an out of the way café from her aunt, Jem heads out to met her aunt's lawyer and to sell the property where she meets the uber hot contractor Jack. Jack wants her to renovate the café and then run her aunt Caro's former business. Jem has no intension of doing this until her relationship with the boyfriend implodes rather dramatically.

Jem and Jack now set about repairing the café and Jem slowly becomes part of the small town life. Aunt Caro had a fair amount of secrets, which Jem starts to discover, whilst fighting off Jack's crazy ex and a potentially dangerous eco-group.

Cooking Up Love is really funny, and Jack's 5 year-old-twin niece and nephew were hilarious. The twins were a brilliant example of how kids can get away with saying things adults cannot (see my fav quote below). Every time they appeared I was waiting to see what hilarious thing they were going to come out with next.

I loved Jack's method of distraction whenever Jem started to panic. For a while I kept thinking Jack was too good to be true, but I was pleased with how Gemma decided to reveal his past and weaknesses. I think Jem and Jack's strength came from having faced similar circumstances; Jack wanted her to learn from his mistakes and to have move will power than he did.

Cooking Up Love is a sweet and fun contemporary romance with a plucky heroine, a hunky hero and a brilliantly named dog!

4 Stars in my Sky!

My fav non-spoilery quotes:

The next winner of the Sexiest Man Alive title stood in her café.
"There is a proper motion for sanding." "Is that what fashionable contractors are calling it these days, Jack?" Getting their wood sanded?"
"Boys aren't the only people with penises. My mom has one too. And hers is way more special." Jem held her breathe, afraid of what might come next. "Hers is blue, it dances when you press the button. Plus, she can keep it in a box by her bed."

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book Reviews.
In the mood for romance I picked up this one. I liked Jemima right from the start and felt so sad for her when the ar se hole boyfriend cheated. And what a way to find out! Still, there was the delicious Jack whose kisses stirred her far more than the ex did. The café sounded fun, and the small town people so friendly. Throw in Jack and wow – who could resist staying, certainly not Jem. The time was right for a change of scene for her.
Jack, builder extrordinaire, kind, thoughtful, well liked and handsome. What more could she want – and he wanted her too so...on with the spice :)
There's lots of others that get involved in this story, sometimes so many that I had to keep checking back how they fitted in to the plot. I loved the romance side of this novel, though I could have done with a bit more of the “downside” - the part where I’m thinking “oh no! What did she/he do that for?” You know – the bit that makes all the happiness so much richer.
What didn't work so well for me though was the suspense angle. It seemed to be hinted at in the early part, then left til near the end where it all came together, but I didn't really feel it added to the story for me. It just didn't feel real, and the characters and actions just didn't really suit what we knew of them. It wasn't strong enough to be a full suspense, and yet the romance and interaction between Jack and Jem took a back seat while this part played out. Either the suspense padded out more and be the main plot, or the romance needed to be stronger without the suspense angle – either would have fitted me better. Still, as ever a reminder this is just my opinion – others will of course feel very different.
Priced at £3.98/$6.34 for 292 pages its a decent length novel.
NB: ARC supplied via Netgalley
Stars: three – it was a good read, just not a great one for me.

Cooking up Love is an entertaining romance with suspense and danger intertwined to make a great reading adventure. The author introduces us to interesting characters and a plotline that takes us on various twists and turns until the end.

Jemima George is in Granite Point, Massachusetts attending her Aunt Caroline’s funeral and visiting the café she inherited from her. She is ready to go back to New York and see her boyfriend and resume her life working as a chef to Margo Tremont, a reality TV star.

It is unfortunate that before she even gets out of town, she finds out her boyfriend Phil has been cheating on her and all of the sudden the town of Granite Point is looking better and better. She talks to Jack Kerrigan, the contract that Caro was using to update the Café and he is willing to continue the project. Jem used to work each summer with her aunt, helping her in the café, when her brother was killed in an accident, her parents would not let her visit her aunt, blaming the death on Caro.

Jack moved back to town after his divorce and enjoys the small town atmosphere, his siblings and parents still live in the area and they have close family ties. He had a disastrous marriage and prefers living the quiet life.

When Jem starts to pack up Caro’s apartment she finds some interesting papers and photos, along with a letter from her aunt. She realizes that her brother’s death might not have been an accident after all. The environmental project they were working on did not seem legal and Jem may have inherited the danger.

This is a wonderful story filled with romance, betrayal, and danger.

I’m a huge fan of culinary-themed stories, I love getting recipes and seeing combinations that authors choose to use as part of the tale. Gemma Brocato didn’t include these sorts of tidbits, but the food references and moments were tasty additions to the plot.

Jem has recently inherited her late aunt’s café in a small Massachusetts coastal town. Initially intending to return to New York City to her prospective fiancé and resume her work for a famous reality star, the collapse of her life as she assumed it to be in the city causes her to rethink her plan.

Jack, or BC as everyone calls him, is a local contractor; handsome and instantly smitten with Jem from the moment he meets her. When the two are unwittingly locked in the pantry, and Jem’s anxiety and claustrophobia get the better of her, we see just how caring and protective Jack can be.

Several twists surrounding a sham environmental group that Jem’s aunt was involved in and the search for the clues she had left behind, the personal demons that both Jem and Jack need to work through to find solid footing in this relationship that will not be denied, and a solidly defined and described small-town feel made this s a light, fun and quick read with plenty of moments for laughter.

Secondary characters often highlight in the moments they appear, with portrayals that are rich and well-defined and usually laden with emotion, laughter or both. The main character’s connection is electric and fuels several steamy moments, with an underlying emotional connection that is apparent to all.

I received an eBook from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Cooking Up Love is a feel-good HEA novel. Except for an opening glitch with the hero, Jack*, I liked the characters right away. The set up was good, if slightly glossed over. The town is one of those small-town places where great characters live. The parts that sizzled, sizzled very nicely. No closed-door-fade-to-black, but there was no sloppy-steamy either. Perfect balance in that category. Where the story felt lacking was in cohesion of character and some aspects of plot. The characters sometimes flip-flopped to suit a scene rather than believeably react to situations as they came up. *I was a little put off when Jack's instant lust for Jemima had him kissing her in a locked closet while she was in the throes of a panic attack. It was hard to reconcile him as a "nice guy" when he would take advantage of that situation. But he redeemed himself quickly and then stayed his nice-guy course. Jem is alternately super-confident and feisty and then so lacking in self-confidence she can't imagine why anyone would want her. There is impetus behind her feelings, but sometimes she'd lose all confidence simply to create a roadblock to the romance, not because her reactions rang true.
By the set-up, I expected the story to be more of a mystery. Jem's brother's death and her recently deceased aunt's part in it is right there in the beginning, then kind of fades into the background until the end. The author does weave reminders throughout; all in all, the mystery is a good one, but not present enough.
I loved the secondary cast of characters, and there were a lot of them, all with compelling stories. To give them their due would have made Cooking Up Love far too long, but it had enough of that quirky, small-town feel to fill a few novels.

I love romance stories and I love stories about chefs. Combine the two genres and I have a book I’m going to enjoy. Gemma Brocato’s Cooking Up Love did not disappoint.
Jem inherits a small café from her aunt. There are two fortunate happenstances for Jem, before we even get to meeting the man of her dreams. She worked in her aunt’s café as a teenager and she is now a trained chef. However, Jem does not want to leave her current job working as a personal chef for a TV star, nor does she want to move away from New York City.
Jack is a contractor who is called in to look over the out-dated café and give an estimate on what needs to be done and what it will cost. Jem is reluctant to do anything at first, then only wants to know what it will take to make the café marketable. When Jack reveals his macho protective side Jem begins to rethink her future.
A mystery, a fraud, and the secrets both Jem and Jack carry as baggage add weight to this story. The secondary characters add depth and even humor. These are strong, well-developed characters. All in all this is a fun, light read, with only enough angst to carry the story along and keep things interesting. There were moments the plot seemed to drag a bit or go on overly long with a scene but then something or someone would pick things up and off we go again. I will be looking for more stories from Gemma Brocato.

When Jem inherits a cafe after her aunt dies, she intends to sell the property in Granite Pointe because her life, her job, and the man she hopes is her soon-to-be-finance are in New York. Jem soon realizes she may be better off staying and running her aunt's cafe because not only does a late night phone reveal her boyfriend is a sleaze but she also has some hot chemistry with the sexy contractor, Jack. From the beginning, Jem feels there is something not quite right about the way her aunt passed away, but the mystery deepens as time goes on.

Cooking Up Love has a whole lot of steamy romance with a bunch of mystery mixed in. The twist was hinted at from the beginning of the book, but, call me slow or whatever, I was still surprised when everything was finally revealed. Jem is smart, sassy, and independent, while also being vulnerable. Jack is tough and determined, while also having a soft heart that's too big for his own good. The characters were great, the setting was good, and the writing style is easy to read. I got hooked early on with the chemistry in the pantry scene, and I kept reading because of the attraction between Jem and Jack and because of the suspense of finding out what really happened to the aunt. I enjoyed reading this and would recommend to anyone who likes contemporary romance or romantic suspense.

4.5 stars! A chef, claustrophobia & sexy contractor

Jem, the heroine, won the hearts of the contractor hero and the small town with her wonderful cooking. The quirky characters and small town won mine. I want to move to Granite Pointe!

This foodie story was a hard-to-put-down quick read with a fast pace. The characters were interesting, and the heroine’s claustrophobia was believable. I adored the byplay between the hero and heroine.

One thing that didn’t quite work for me was the foreshadowing. There was so much in unequal proportions, you knew who the villain was going to be even though there was a twist. I didn’t care about the character involved in the twist because we didn’t see enough of the character to make the reveal meaningful. But that’s okay for me because this is a contemporary romance not romantic suspense or a mystery.

I can’t wait to see what is in store for this series and will definitely put Gemma Brocato on my TBR list.

A romance and a mystery, how can you go wrong with a storyline like that. The first in a unique series based on the five senses, we visit the sense of taste. Jem is a Chef facing loss and heartache starting a new life in Granite Point by reopening her aunts cafe. Jack is a builder hired to remodel the cafe and is interested in developing a relationship with Jem. This is a charming story filled with plenty of twist and turns. The storyline was well written, the characters were well developed ,funny , some were scary , lovable and entertaining. I loved the small town atmosphere and the fact they acted like one big family pulling together when help was needed. The interactions between Jack and Jem are very realistic and the doubts and feelings expressed were very believable. This was a quick easy read that was entertaining and kept you reading until the end. I look forward to seeing where the author will go with the remaining four sense.

Great read! I really enjoyed the story and am looking forward to Ms Brocato's next book.
Book cover is very nice and has a professional look.
Exciting story about a professional cook who leaves New York to start a new life in a small town.
Jemima George goes to Granite Pointe after her dear aunt Caroline passes away. She inherits her aunt's cafe Caro's Taste and finds the town more charming than what she originally believed when Jack Kerrigan walks into
her life. Attraction and love grows between them but then his beautiful ex-wife comes back to town. Will Jemina be able to compete with his ex-wife? A must read book - you won't be disappointed.

Amazong, heartfelt, wonderful

Where to start?
This book touched my soul in so many ways. I'm not going into any details because I don't want to give any spoilers. But I will say, if you're thinking about reading this story, you really should. Trust me, it is so worth it. I'm completely at a loss of words to describe this book. It's amazing. Perfect. Best book that I've read. There's just enough drama to make it realistic with a twist. Don't make my mistake, don't think you know what's going to happen. Because, you're really be shocked! Gemma done a wonderful job of giving this story a plot twist. Please, do yourself the favor, and read Jem and Jack's story, I can promise that you won't regret it!
