The Interscholastic Auradon Fashion Contest is the biggest fashion event of the year and students across the United States of Auradon are buzzing with anticipation. No one is more excited than Evie, the Villain Kids' (VKs) resident fashionista and designer extraordinaire! The other VKs roll up their sleeves to help their friend, but with another Auradon student competing for the top prize alongside her, will Evie be able to reach the top spot? And just how far are the other competitors prepared to go to win first place? This is book 1 of 2.
Evie’s Wicked Runway is a cute side story in the Descendants series. It’s very lighthearted and presents a lot of important messages that kids could take away from the story like how cheating is wrong and how friends are always there to support each other.
My only problem with this graphic novel is that it lacks a lot of Disney elements that really helped the movie series shine. This could be any generic story about a fashion show with the same messages because there weren’t a lot of Disney references and charm in this book.
The Descendants are easily among the best Disney Channel creations of the past decade or two, and these comics live up to the standard set by the telefilms. Fans of Mal, Evie, and friends should seek this out as soon as possible.
This is the first time I read a graphic novel so maybe I'm not the best reviewer for this. But aaawww, this book is so cute and freakin' adorable. I love the Descendants franchise and so when I was looking up on Netgalley for a graphic novel as a requirement in a reading challenge and saw this, I clicked request so fast. This book is so cute and adorable. It's about Evie joining Auradon's National Design Competition and as a talented designer, the contest suits her. I love the art. So beautiful like they're real on the pages. It's almost breathtaking. In fact if you love fashion designing or art in general, you have to see this book. I draw some of the designs and showed it to my four-year old cousin and she liked them very much. That's why, i'm gonna gift this to her on Christmas. hehe.
As a Disney fan and a lover of the Descendants, I was pleased to see that the themes of fun, friendship and being rue ti yourself were carried throughout this book. The pictures were fun and the storyline was sweet. Probably suit 8yrs-12 so not really my age bracket but still a good read.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review of the book.
This was a quick easy graphic novel that I got from NetGalley, which was easy to read and follow along with, which is exactly why I requested this one and why I wanted to read it. I wanted something light and child like, that wasn't going to draining and suck at my emotions and feeling. This just took me away from some of my more emotional reads of late, which was perfect. It is a children's graphic novel, so you can expect to find the bold and overly bright colours, as oppose to the adult graphic novels I've read lately, such as The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina.
The storyline was okay. It did what I wanted it to, but again I wasn't it's intended audience. It didn't really explain the characters, but that could be because it's a graphic novel and the only other one I've read are the Sabrina series. I think children, even young teenagers would enjoy this, but on saying that, this graphic novel did leave of on a bit of a cliffhanger, which I now want to know how it continues. So maybe age isn't an issue, it just depends on your mood, the writing and the story content.
I do enjoy reading children's book to break up big reads, or continual emotional or troublesome reads, and I don't know if I'm the only one. Let me know. But I find it helps. I usually fly through, I get that sense of accomplishment and it's usually a fun and exciting read.
I'm new to mangas but after reading this one, I'm sold! The graphics are so good, and the story is interesting, especially for my granddaughter, to whom I read this!
The Descendants is one of my favorite Disney series (because we're all Disney kids at heart), so I jumped at the chance to read and review this book. Evie and her fashion sense are especially fun for my granddaughter, so we had a lot of fun with this story.
I highly recommend this book to all Disney lovers, old and young, with a special emphasis on The Descendants.
5/5 stars
I received a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion.
(I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review) Cute just so cute i adore the art it's very cheerful, happy, and colorful, it's about Evie trying to win a fashion contest. I personally like this concept because we get to see her ideas come to life on the pages because of the art. I recommend this to parents if you kids love the descendents definitely get them this especially since the holidays are coming fast. I also recommend this to anyone who just likes cute art in general it would be a nice addition to your collection.
Loved everything about this book. Disney Descendants is one of the best Disney Movies since High School Musical to be a huge franchise and a huge phenomenon. The story of Evie and how she evolved from the daughter of the wicked queen to an aspiring fashion designer is just remarkable. The artwork is just breathtaking and it really captures the story in telling it in such a creative way. Our patrons are definitely fans and will love this book. Thank you Diamond Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. That is why we give this book 5 stars!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of Evie’s Wicked Runaway Book in exchange for an honest review.
This is good, really good. I love how the story keeps moving, and moving well at that matter. The artwork is spot on, the story stays true to the movies, and the story line is WICKED good. I'm excited for volume 2 and want it now!!! Any Descendant fan is going to love this book.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I am a fan of this series. I have watched the movies and even own a couple of book in hardcover. I love how no matter what Evie faces she never forgets to be herself. She does sometimes lack a little confidence, but it does not take her long with the help of friends and kind words to get her back on track. I don't want to tell you too much. It is good for young readers. It is the first part in a trilogy so be warned cliffhanger.
This is a super cute graphic novel that fits into the Descendants world really well. The art is really lovely - especially the dresses that Evie designs - and the plot is compelling! I was disappointed to finish it, because it was just such a wonderfully cute read. I'll be looking out for the rest of this series for sure!
As a talented designer, Evie can't wait to enter Auradon's national design competition, traveling and challenging other young hopefuls from all across the land. Even more exciting: the grand prize is... I read this book with my cousins, and they really enjoyed this book, they really wanted to read the next book and were excited to see the story unfold.
Evie can't wait to enter Auradon's national design competition. She wants to use the prize to help other kids on the isle. What Evie isn’t aware is that one of her own classmate's plots against her and is trying to set her up to fail.
I really loved the drawings and the story. Since it’s a second book, I can’t wait to read the next one in the series to find out what happens!
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Evie’s Wicked Runaway Book1 by author Natsuki Minami is a fun book! Our oldest daughter absolutely loved reading this! Thoroughly a great read! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of Evie’s Wicked Runaway Book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute Descendants manga about fair play and doing the right thing. Evie has been accepted into a fashion design contest and her main competitor is willing to do just snout anything to win. Book one includes the first of three challenges.
Cute story focusing on Evie and fashion. The art style is lovely. The dress designs were adorable. I kinda wish we knew which princess or 'goodie' Mia was connected to. Either way, I don't like her or Chad so job well done there. Looking forward to picking up book 2.
Now I'm done with all of the Disney Descendants mangas. This story is lovely as the others. And it shows that you can be friends with counterparties. Yes, that's typically for Disney and one of the reasons why I love Disney 😍
I love Evie. She is one of my favorite characters. I was excited to read a new story about her. I loved the style of the characters and the plot. The story kept me intrigued. While not the intended audience, I still enjoyed it. Can't wait to find out what happens next!
Evie’s Wicked Runway Book 1 Evie gets invited to compete in the Interscholastic Auradon Fashion Contest. The winner will get to be featured in a magazine and get to direct a project for charity. The theme is a secret until the day before and they’ll have 24 hours to assemble, design, and present to the judges. Mal, Carlos, and Jay tell Evie the want in on what she’ll use the prize for to help others when they win.
There’s another student at Auradon Prep named Mia who thinks *she* should have been the one chosen. She goes to Chad with a business proposition and tells him to get her into the contest. He says she’s come to the right person. They advise she go by fire, smoke, and rhyme. Maleficent is able to lure Aurora with a green orb to a spinning wheel where she pricks her finger and falls into a deep sleep.
Evie tries to be nice to Mia, but she snubs her. The first challenge is announced. It’s called “The Barter Boutique Challenge”. The rules are you can’t buy any supplies. Everything in the design must come from trading with the other students. Then each contest gets a theme. Mia “accidently” bumps into Evie and switches her envelope without her knowing. When Evie opens her envelope it says she’s to design a dress for an Auradon Promenade.
Evie finishes the dress but decides it needs a gem. Only no one will speak to her much less trade with her. She sees Mia buying a necklace from a student. When she confronts Mia about it, she denies it. Doug tells her they can’t worry about it now. Chad ironically just happens to have a gem and trades his ruby ring for some school patches.
Jane gives Evie the bad news that when she checked on her design it didn’t fit the theme she was given. Her theme was to design a school uniform that represented Auradon Prep. Evie shoes her (her) envelope and Jane says it doesn’t have the official seal of Auradon. We find out that Mia promised Chad he’d be the face of her new business. We also see that Mia has Evie’s envelope. She burns it and says she’s not proud of what she did but fashion can be a tough business. Evie does make the deadline and Jane approves it for the next day. Only the outfit still needs something to say Auradon. Evie tries to get the patches back from Chad but he says he’s using them for his bedspread,
The judges like how Evie transitioned her design but there’s nothing about it that says Auradon. It comes down to her and Mia. Evie wins second but is still in the running. The next challenge is called the “Be Our Guest Challenge”. They’ll be creating accessories and it will be the centerpiece of the meal and be edible. Jay finds out about the deal Chad made at practice. Evie tries to make peace with Mia since they’ll be sharing a kitchen but she just says may the best fashionista win. Evie says she will.
The envelope gives Evil the instructions to take a dish from Queen Belle’s first dinner party at the Beasts castle and turn it into the main course of this fashionable dinner.
Rating: 6 and a half. I actually liked the illustrations for this! I don’t usually like the look of manga in graphic novels and comics but this was good. I liked how must of the characters were drawn. I even liked Evie’s designs in this one. Much more so than I liked the one’s in Evie’s Fashion Book. And the plot of this reminded me so much of the Jem episode “In Stitches” where Shana had to compete in a big fashion competition in Venice but the Misfits stole her designs at the last minute. And in a short about of time, she had to use synergy to create something else. There were even clock illustrations in this like in the video “Time Is Running Out”.
