Here is the story of Tom, Huck, Becky, and Aunt Polly; a tale of adventures, pranks, playing hookey, and summertime fun. Written by the author sometimes called "the Lincoln of literature," The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was surprisingly neither a critical nor a financial success when it was first published in 1876. It was Mark Twain's first novel. However, since then Tom Sawyer has become his most popular work, enjoying dramatic, film, and even Broadway musical interpretations.
It's been a loooong time since I've read the original, but aren't Tom and Huck supposed to be in the 11-13 year old range? It really bothered me the way they were both drawn as brooding, mysterious older teens - imagine the two sides of Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt = Tom, Ed Norton = Huck). That pretty much ruined it for me.
This is a really simplistic version of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer- it is easy for low-level readers to understand (and the dialect has been stripped away). The graphics are ok, but Sawyer looks like an adult rather than a boy! Good for an overview of the book, but there's no nuance and it's not a true adaptation.
Decent adaptation of the Tom Sawyer story. I mean, I haven't read the original novel, but I assume this touched on all the major plot points. Wish the art style was more appealing, but it was fine.
Admittedly, reading this kinda made me want to go and re-try the original novel or some other abridged version of it. Unless it's just the second novel that I wanna go read now, because I know there is a sequel, but I'm not sure if it has its own graphic novel adaptation. I'll have to look into it--or just suck it up and try the book itself. I'll figure that out when I get there.
I remember reading Tom Sawyer in school, but I have forgotten some of the details. As I read the story, I found myself remembering more and more. That said, in order to retell the entire novel as a relatively short graphic novel, they cut out a LOT. It felt more like a Wishbone episode of Tom Sawyer than the actual story. I also didn't really like how they drew Tom and Huck. They looked like they were 30 years old, not young boys. The art in general felt fairly flat and didn't have the movement I've come to expect from the graphic novels I've read recently.
Pak Suami menemukan buku ini ditumpukan buku obral, trus bilang 'ini bagus, beli aja cuma lima ribu' ya udah langsung masuk kantong belanja dah. Lumayan banget buat koleksi.
I read the walking dead graphic novel and loved those but I think because this is a classic that was already made into a novel so it wasn't as good. This graphic novel was ok but not the greatest story I have ever read.
This is a perfect illustrated version of the classic tale of Tom Sawyer, that will hopefully get students excited in reading the original. The afterward also has a selection of discussion questions, writing prompts and a listing of other classical fiction adaptations.
I would've like another 100 pages to give some depth to the story. Everything was glanced over so quickly that there's no emotional investment possible and no sense of tension.
This was deeply disappointing. Choppy. Inconsistent. The visuals were a cheap, mailed in effort. The kids enjoyed it only because Tom Sawyer is a great story. But relative to the Iliad and Odyssey, I’m really disappointed this was how they met Tom Sawyer.
My first graphic novel. I had to read one for my Local Library Bingo Challenge. I’m glad I’m more familiar with this genre. But I won’t opt for more voluntary.
I thought bit was a pretty good book it was easy to read and it was fun to read the book was very easy to understand the pictures could have definitely been better tho but overall i thougt it was a goood book
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a graphic novel about a boy named Tom Saywer who lives with his Aunt Polly and Sid, his half-brother in Missouri. Tom has a wild imagination and is not the best behaved. Tom has his friends Huck and Joe Harper and also he meets a girl named Becky Thatcher who is new to town and he falls in love with her and he convinces her to get engaged to him. Tom, Huck and Tom’s friend Joe decide to run away to an island after witnessing a murder. As a group they decide to never tell anyone and keep it amongst themselves. Once Tom convinces the other two to return back they were met with great delight. As time goes on Tom faces more adventures and even runs into a time where him and his love Becky are stuck in a cave and he is not sure if they are even going to get out. He keeps finding himself in a series of adventures that continue on into the sequel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
This was my first time reading a graphic novel that was the first thing I noticed. A graphic novel is basically a big comic strip. I think that this is a good way to get students to read who do not want to read all words. This provides the students with pictures to help guide them through the comic.
According to the marktwainmuseum.com this book is a good guide to inspire the students to use their own experiences to launch a creative writing project. The students could create their own graphic novel on an experience in their own life or something fiction. Encourage them to use their imagination with the pictures they use and the captions to create a story. Then we would have everyone share with the class what their experience was.
The lexile score on this book is a 970L which means the students should be reading this independently by middle of sixth grade. As for a read aloud this could be difficult because the every student in the class would not be able to get a good look at the graphics, but if you wanted to read this book aloud third grade and beyond would be a good age.
The adventures of Tom Sawyer is about two boys having consequences leading up to their actions on the night if the massacre they witness injun joe committing a crime but they swore to themselves that they wouldn't tell anyone or otherwise they will be in deep trouble
When the two boys witnessed injun joe committing his crime the boys said they wouldn't let out a single word about this.It made me think about the time when I was a kid and when I one of my friends broke his mums wedding photo and we swear we wouldn't mention a single word. There is an aspect of loyalty and truth in this which fight against each other for domination.
Another important thing is when the two boys get lost in the cave .It made me think about when I got lost at school camp on a hiking trail. This is relevant to me because it teaches me to never give up and how patience is the key to success.
I recommend this book to people who are looking for short adventurous texts.
Another one was the whole purpose of them becoming pirates the author wanted you to relate to this so you could understand there choices in their rperpective

My Book was The adventures of Tom sawyer. In the beginning of the book Tom had to paint the fence because his Aunt Polly was mad at him. While he was painting his friend came to say him. Then Tom got disracted and they went on a walk. while tom told other people to finish up his work. they were talking and they brought up that if you berry a cat in the cemetary than it gets all of your warts away. So when it hit night time they went to the cemetary. While they were at the cematery they saw Old Muff Potter. He was digging out the body from its coffin. Then the guys started to fight about how they didn't get paid enough money and got into a fist fight. The two boys didn't know what to do so they ran away and left a note.
The clever boy, Tom Sawyer, is a precocious child full of trickery and general mischief. He has an active imagination and enjoys childlike adventures and playing tricks on everyone, including his Aunt Polly. His best friend, Huck Finn, lives on his own and the two frequently play together. One night, however, the two witness a murder that leads to some real-life danger-filled adventures. The two must decide whether to keep the secret or risk life and limb to do the right thing and save an innocent man’s life.
Was this even worth my time?! I swear this kind of books are the books that makes stay away for non famous children tales remakes.Wow that was a mouthful. anyway it keeps the Tom Sawyer story but it moves from place to another without giving a good explanation of what is happening! Also, how do you forget someone who may kill you? What! Anyway, all I have to say is the planing of this story was hellishly awful and I wish anyone who tries to read this comic to just stay away for it.
:) Good Job, Mark Twain ^^
there was several reasons that I did not like about it. they missed more than half the story. like what the flip-flops!? ALSO because they made some part's up. so I give this a two-star rating
Read this aloud to Keeley. I think she enjoyed it enough. It hit on all the high plot points for Tom's story, though it missed most of Twain's writing quality.
