This book introduces DA Helena Stratton and her partner, DS Andy Mald. First one murder, then two, then three .... all sisters. Sisters who had terrifying secrets they never told anyone.

These are not the only victims of this particularly monstrous serial killer. Stratton and Maud are going to have to dig deep to find the motive ... and how they all connect.

I enjoy getting in on the ground floor of a new series.

Stratton is a unique character in that she is still reeling from a close and personal meeting with a killer. These particular cases she's working on presently is sending her memories back in time. To make thinks even worse, she and her partner are at loggerheads .. they definitely do not like each other. It's sort of fun watching them snipe at each other. Stratton also has an ex-boyfriend ... who has turned into a stalker.

This is the first in a 3-book series. THE MAN IN THE HOUSE is well written. The reader gets a peek into the mind of the killer ... why he's doing what he does. The ending is surprising ... not exactly a cliffhanger, but a glimpse into what's coming next.

Many thanks to Emmy Ellis and M. A. Comley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Suspenseful, exciting thriller with interesting characters and a plot that you can see happening today! This is the start of a new criminal suspense series with DI Helena Stratton, a cop who has been through hell and high water but is still determined to push herself to keep others safe!
There are plenty of dark, horrific moments as the blood flows and victims are found with different items sewed inside their bodies! Helena and her partner, DS Andy Mald, are forced to look into the backgrounds and dissect the private lives of the victims, searching for a reason Why and by Whom !!
This is a collaboration of two amazing authors and the result is a thrilling plot, intense characters with action scenes that hold your attention long after you finish reading. A fabulous story for all of us who enjoy mystery, suspense and a bit of horror, as you might find in any crime story in the headlines today....

This is the first book in a new series by Emmy Ellis and M.A. Conley. The second and third books are to be released in June (2019). A series of brutal murders perplexes the lead detectives, DI Helena Stratton and DS Andy Mald. The first death is strange enough but the next complicates everything. The victims are sisters. There is a brother and a third sister who seems to be keeping a terrible secret that she won't tell. It may cost her her life.

There is no doubt the book was fast paced and pretty suspenseful but I just can't buy the whole secrets thing. I mean it might have worked when they were all children but the sisters are now grown women. The killer was portrayed as having mad sneaking around skills and that just didn't work for me and he came across as a caricature of a villain (to me at least). I could almost hear "mwah ha ha". I know its fiction and I've often argued that fiction need not be realistic to be good. But when I'm constantly saying to myself 'psht - as if...' then I'm not fully on board.

Despite all that I did enjoy reading the book (gripping -remember?) and I will check out the sequels. Maybe things will settle down in book two. There are aspects of Stratton's past that look like coming into play in a future book. So - not all bad, just a little OTT to get the ball rolling.

Sensational! Shocking from the very start, with DI Helena Stratton and her partner Andy Mald called to examine a woman's dead body in the middle of the night. The carpet is blood-stained, the killing is horrific, the serial killer monstrous. Helena’s job is extra hard because she’s had her own past full of trauma, but she’s tough and she grows on you. She’s also not thrilled working with her annoying partner Andy, but being professional and determined, she soldiers through that too. More reasons to like her.

The Man in The House is the first book in a new crime series written by two wonderful authors, Emmy Ellis and Mel Comley, whose previous high-octane thrillers I’ve come to love. The plot is clever, the action fast with no lulls, and the killer so brutal that you want desperately to know who it is. All in all, a terrific nail biter that I finished in a day – couldn’t stop right up to the last shocking pages. Well done, awesome authors! Five stars!

The Man In The House is the first book in a brand new crime series featuring DI Helena Stratton and what a start!

I wasn’t to sure what to make of Helena to start with. She isn’t liking working with Andy, her partner, having a few issues with him. As the story goes along though and I got to know her better as well as her working relationship with Andy, it wasn’t long before I really got to enjoy her character.

The case itself had me gripped as I wanted to know more, especially about the killer. The authors weren’t giving anything away though and I loved the shocks and surprises as they came at me. Not only does it have Helena and her team on their toes, it had me on the edge of my seat also.

The Man In The House is an enthralling and nail biter of a read. The authors’ writing style has you turning those pages and fully engrossed in the story. The murders are gruesome and oh so thrilling. Can’t wait for more in the series.

My thanks to the authors’ for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

I have to say right from the outset that this book was superb!!

I was reading a very highly recommended book when this one landed on my Kindle and I put that one to one side (being a massive fan of M.A. Comley) and thought I'd read a few pages and get a gist of how this one was going to be written as it is the first time that Comley has teamed up with Emmy Ellis and before I knew it I was completely hooked!!

I did not want to put it down at all and I stayed up late to finish it off - to say I devoured it is probably underestimating how enthralled I was with the story - I lovedit from cover to cover- it was dark, devious and the writing style was brilliant!!

This will certainly be up there with my favourite reads at the end of the year, the characters were so well developed and DI Helena Stratton was excellent, I could really see some of my own characteristics in her too - not so sure if that is a good thing!!

It is five stars from me and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!!

What can I say about this book. It is extremely warped which of course is something that I love.

It is a shocking tale which had my nerves tingling in anticipation. I just loved how this was written and it was a seamless meld of two amazing authors. You couldn't tell where one voice ended and the other began.

Andy I really liked and felt my heart was more with him then the main female character. He seemed to have such a rough time but you can see his partner is trying to help him get back on track.

The main female character seems to be a bit harsh at times but you can see just how she will be like. She has a good heart just she doesn't show it in a way that really makes you want to always like her.

So... two authors that I have read and enjoyed have only gone and collaborated on a new series... Going by track record, this should be a cracker. And It Was! Real heart in mouth stuff pretty much all the way through. Well done ladies!
Meet DI Helena Stratton. A seasoned cop who has been through the mill on occasion, which has left her battered, bruised and scarred but still determined. She is partnered with DS Andy Mald who basically, well, needs to look after himself bit better. To say it's not a partnership made in heaven would be a bit of an understatement but, on the whole, they keep it professional... kinda!
The case they are called to investigate is a bit bizarre. A woman has been murdered and, well, mutilated and strange objects left for the police to find. Helen and Andy interview her siblings but they claim to know nothing. Helen is sure they are holding back but is powerless. The body count rises and Helen is facing a race against time to bring the perp to justice.
Oh my - this book put me through the wringer. What a nasty set of crimes to investigate. I'd love (sort of) to elaborate further here as to the intricacy of the plot and how well executed it was, but spoilers prevent me from doing so. The authors have pretty much given nothing away in the blurb so it's not my place to do otherwise. Suffice to say, I was blind for the majority of the book and a bit shocked when my eyes were finally opened!
Now, being as this is a collaboration, I am not sure of "who wrote what bits" but one of Ms Comley's fortes as an author is her banter between the police partners. Here, the relationship between Helen and Andy is a bit different to her usual partnerships. Whether that is Ms Ellis's influence, who can tell. And to be honest, who really cares. It's different yeah, but in a really good way. The way that Helen and Dave "rub along" and the way that partnership progresses through the book was really well observed and executed.
The plot was excellent. I did have a couple of minor niggles along the way, mostly to do with procedure, but they paled into insignificance given the quality of the rest of what I read. Also they were all used to progress the story and, as such, are forgivable.
All in all, another winner from both authors. And another new series for me to put on my watch list.

This was a fantastic book to read, it was a collaboration between Mel Comley and Emmy Ellis and it worked very well. The story was great and reeled you in from the start and I was hooked right until the end, read it in one sitting.

DI Helene Stratton is called out to a woman's dead body in the middle of the night. She doesn't disturb her partner DS Andy Mald as there is friction between them and she could do without his presence tonight. This killer seems to like strangling his victims but then mutates them in bizarre ways, gets more frightening as he carries on. He watches his victims, he waits then he strikes.

Fast paced and lots of descriptive writing to keep you on your toes, feel like you are there, actually living the story. It's the start of a new series and I'm already looking forward to the next book, can't wait. Mel and Emmy make a great writing duo!

A long time fan of Mel Comley and more recent fan of Emmy Ellis, I wasn't quite sure what to expect with their co-authored crime thriller.

With tongue in cheek and a smile on my face I have dubbed this one - DISTURBING!!!

That term has so many meanings, but for crime thriller fans it means deliciously dark, intriguing and a must read. For those of us who love shows like Luther and Criminal Minds. A devious, diabolical killer. A damaged, yet recovering main character who has a heart, but has buried it beneath the nightmares that keep her awake at night.

Helena and Andy have the makings of a good team. I'm looking forward to a long future with both of them.

A spine chilling read of epic proportions. The combination of these 2 brilliant authors is utterly dynamic.
From the opening pages of this book, where DI Helen Stratton & her partner DS Andy Mald are staring down at a blood stained carpet & all the gory details of the beginnings of horrifically brutal killings to the last pages which have left me totally in shock & reeling. I just could not put this book down. It has definitely left a lasting impression.

A fantastic collaboration between two wonderful authors, you just can’t go wrong.
Callie is found dead with certain items placed inside before being stitched up. Do her sisters know more than they are saying to the police? Why is there a wall of silence? The police are going to have to try and solve this quickly before anyone else dies.
This is a well written story with a great plot. I have enjoyed the different characters in the book. This certainly had me feeling creeped out as well as feeling tense and jumpy. A great book and definitely worth recommending to others.

I did not like this book, it left too many questions unanswered. The overall story was good, but a certain level of stupidity was required of the reader. I expected a really good story from M. A. Conley and did not get it.

Worthwhile mystery series for fans of British female detectives. I like Helena Stratton, so I expect to read more.

I've known Emmy Ellis for many years, but she's written under some books under pen names which weren't my cup of tea (Earl Grey, hot). I've been remiss in finding this series. I'm glad I FINALLY did.

She's a really excellent writer, so I can confidently recommend any of her books to those who like the genres.

I want to say thank you to Emmy Ellis and Mel Comley for writing this amazing and haunting start to the series. I've never read anything by Emmy Ellis before, but her collaboration with Mel Comley was a spark of genius.

This starts off as it means to go on. Bringing the reader RIGHT into the book. When you start it, it WON'T let go. It brings the characters into your own head and makes you feel like you are RIGHT there with them. DI Helena Stratton has a past, which you find out as you read the book as to what happened to her. Her partner DS Andy Mald is a weird one at the start and YES I did wanna throttle him lol. The case they are given is strange at 1st but as the book carries on, you still don't know who the killer is. It isn't til near the end does it all unravel and BOY does it unravel. Be careful what you wish for, because with this book, YOU MIGHT JUST GET IT!

Loved the style of the book and can't wait to read book 2 when it comes out. Mel Comley and Emmy Ellis are 1 heck of a team to write this series.

As a long time fan of the wonderful Mel Comley and a recent one of Emmy Ellis, it was a real treat to find these two talents teaming up.

The Man in the House is a dark and at times twisted start to a new series.
DI Helena Stratton and her partner Andy Mald are investigating a string of truly gruesome murders that can make even hardened crime readers gasp in shock.

The start of this book has the partners at each other’s throats and Helena is certainly not impressed with her partner and is not afraid to voice her very direct opinion, which at times had me laughing out loud, but I have a feeling this will all work out eventually.

Another great series that I will be following from start to finish

A fantastic read. DI Stratton certainly has issues. An unfortunate and traumatic past investigation that still gives her nightmares, a irritating ex-boyfriend that really can't take no for an answer and a new murder investigation that seems to be going nowhere fast with an every increasing number of deaths. Her partner in the investigation is also in need of a kick up the backside before she takes things to a higher level. A compelling read as each small clue keeps you guessing throughout. Gory in places, but what's a good murder crime without a splash of blood? Will Stratton continue with her nightmares?...and will she have more terrors to keep her awake? I look forward to book two in the series.

When I saw the names of the authors, I knew this would be a good read.

The cops are called out to a corpse. They get to the family and break the news.
The family just couldn’t understand why this had happened to them!

The two cops, whose relationship
was at times, really comical, feed back to the team. Now it’s time for them to delve into this case, and find the guilty party.

I had no idea what to expect next, it was all happening.
This story was shocking, unbelievably disgusting in parts, and holding your breath scary. Of course, my imagination saw every word of this book!

I now await impatiently, for the next book!

The Man in the House

The Man in the House comes to us courtesy of a collaboration between two utterly amazing authors. The first in a brilliant series, this book introduces us to DI Helena Stratton and DS Andy Mald, as they attend a horrific murder scene in the middle of the night.

What follows is dark, chilling and gripping;
this book will have you holding your breath in anticipation as you turn the pages, not knowing what might be round the corner. You’ll find yourself thinking of this story even when you’re not reading, it will chill you to the bone! I can’t wait for the next instalment, I’m invested! Five stars from purplebookstand!

Two amazing authors, and a title that gives nothing away, get together to create this chilling, often frightening, but certainly gripping read. First in this series. DI Helena Stratton is thrown straight into a disturbing and perplexing murder case straight after her own abduction and subsequent escape from a particularly violent people trafficker. She is also coping with a possessive boyfriend and a partner, DS Andy Mald, whose habits and lack of personal hygiene are driving her to distraction. A young woman is found dead in her own home, mutilated, with something sewn up inside her and a plastic flower left at the scene. Whilst the investigation into this murder gets underway, another body is found in similar circumstances and it becomes evident there is a particularly nasty serial killer at large. This is an edge of your seat, gripping read that you will not want to put down. Highly Recommended.

This is the start to the DI Eleanor series and as we have seen previously with Tracey and Bethany we have a past that is hard to forget.

In this one, we see a family being targeted, sisters who were abused and then murdered. A killer who as we expect with Emmy, having a fixation on his past and leaving strange clues which only the victims can understand.

What are they, read and find out

Very good story in which the perpetrator turns out to be a complete surprise...At least to me. Strange and intriguing how one can have control of other people, making them do and accept things they shouldn't. I will read more of this writer's stories.
