This book is great in some ways (the color photos of every recipe, for one) and a disappointment in other ways.

I was so happy to see that it supposedly had gluten free directions for every recipe, but that was a bit of a con. Council's version of gluten free directions are the instructions to just make any cookie recipe with her incredibly expensive favorite brand of gluten free flour mix (Namaste, which is mostly made up of organic sweet brown rice flour, brown rice flour and tapioca starch). The only other suggestion for baking most of the GF cookies? Make them a tiny bit larger since they don't spread as much. Occasionally she has a note to also use coconut flour for some recipes that are particularly hard to make GF. None of the recipes are actually designed to be GF, and none of the pictures show the recipes made with GF flours that I could see. I was unable to try any of the recipes as I don't want to spend the money on her recommended GF mix. She also says King Arthur GF flour will work but I know that's pretty poor quality and is not likely to make good cookies at all, so I don't necessarily trust her gluten free judgment.

There are lots of cookies here, but they're often of the same kinds. There are whole chapters on very specific types of cookies, but then there aren't any of some of the most popular kinds. For instance, my 16 y/o son and I wanted to make sugar cookies with cookie cutters yesterday and there's not a single recipe for that kind of cookie.

Chapters of types of cookies include: soft and chewy, vegan, biscotti, butter cookies, sandwich cookies, florentines and French macarons. There is also a chapter at the end of pantry items to make like butterscotch sauce and strawberry milk, which is nice.

I do like that Council recommends organic and natural ingredients. The photos are also fantastic. The author runs a bakery and the recipes definitely reflect that. They're sometimes a bit over the top in terms of ingredients and end result. This makes sense if you're charging a lot of money for a single cookie.

This is a great cookbook and people will like it a lot. It's not the best cookbook for our family, though.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

Full Review on The Candid Cover

Cookies for Everyone by Mimi Council is an interesting collection of cookie recipes that will delight fans of her shop and those looking for gluten-free options. The images are beautiful and the instructions are simplistic. However, the recipes do seem a bit repetitive.

I have a weakness for cookies and when I saw this cookbook was available for review I didn’t even hesitate. I love it when authors of recipes provide alternate versions of a tried and true recipe. This book only gives a gluten-free or higher elevation variation. It also seems that the only difference is a gluten-free flour in place of regular flour.

❀ ORGANIC INGREDIENTS

Cookies for Everyone really leans towards the use of organic ingredients, which may appeal to some. As well, the use of coconut oil is found in quite a few of the recipes. While I have no problem using coconut oil in moderation, I am not convinced that it is a healthier fat. Butter, in my opinion, is what makes a cookie flavourful.

The chocolate chip minis produced a dry batter that I had to alter with some water. That being said, they were tasty, but not out of this world. The coconut oil gives a different flavour to the traditional cookie and I am sure that it might be appealing to others.

❀ GLUTEN-FREE OPTIONS

If you are in the market for some gluten-free baking ideas, Cookies for Everyone is one book of recipes to check out. The images are stunning and the recipes are easy to follow. It might be one that many find useful, even if it isn’t my cup of tea.

Cookies for Everyone is a mix-and-match cookbook and tutorial guide for making cookies which are enjoyable by everyone - including those who follow a gluten-free, nut-free, or vegan diet, or who have other dietary restrictions. Released 5th Nov. 2019 from Hatchette on their Da Capo imprint, it's 304 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats.

The introduction includes a short author bio and the genesis of the book. She covers tools, ingredients, and supplies and how to source and use the best and freshest ingredients (and why you should). The following chapters present an amazing array of cookies by category: soft & chewy cookies, vegan friendly cookies, biscotti, butter cookies, sandwich cookies (yum!), florentines, macarons, and a selection of recipes for ingredients like sauces, glazes, and a chocolate tempering tutorial.

Each of the recipes include ingredients in a sidebar (measurements in US standard and metric), and step by step instructions. The ingredients are mostly relatively easily sourced and should be available from any well stocked grocery or large supermarket. The footers include adjustments for gluten free versions as well as high altitude or other specialty instructions. The cooking instructions are easy to follow and with a careful read-through, I found no glaring mistakes.

It's unclear from the publishing info available online, but the eARC I received has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references. I hope the ebook release version does also. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. Presumably that feature will carry through to the final release version.

I do wish the book included serving pictures for all of the recipes, but it's not a huge drawback. I would estimate approximately half are accompanied by one or more pictures. The pictures which are included are appealing, clear, and illustrative.

Five stars. There are a lot of very appealing recipes included. I tried 3 (Dad's Coconut Chocolate Chip (the cookie that started it all), Chocolate Brownie Biscotti, and Chai Shortbread). They were all a success, and the Chai Shortbread cookies were outstanding - tender, flaky, and robust.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Cookies for Everyone is serious about the everyone message. Mimi Council, the baker and owner of Dessert’d Organic Bake Shop in Mammoth Lakes, California, shares 100 recipes for cookie lovers who can eat everything or who need vegan or gluten free goodies. This isn’t a book where the folks with different needs get like 5 recipes. No, alternatives are shared with the majority of recipes.

The range of cookies is diverse, too. They go from basic chocolate chip to sandwich cookies to more work-intensive florentines and macarons. Tips are provided throughout on everything from sources (the author is big on organic ingredients) to how best to mix recipes to technical skills to create those intimidating macarons. All important for me: photographs are included to show the lovely finished results. The back of the book has some appealing non-cookie recipes like strawberry milk and homemade chocolate fro-yo.

As a home baker with a food blog, I read each recipe with keen interest and found many I want to try. This truly is a solid cookbook for any cookie baker.

This book was received as an ARC from Hachette Books - Da Capo Lifelong Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am an absolute ultimate lover of cookies but now being an aunt and having children with food allergies, it breaks my heart that they can't share my love for some of my favorite cookies....until now. All of the recipes look easy enough to make for the average baker and the photographs made my mouth water tempting me so much to try these cookies and share them with my family and friends. Everyone at any age and baking at any level will love this book and all the wonderful cookie recipes it has to offer.

We will consider adding this title to our Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This is now my favorite cookbook! Starts with wonder writing and a story about how the author got into baking. Then a lesson in tools and ingredients used in baking. Next the book starts out with simple recipes and builds to the more complex as you master your cookie baking skills. Has conversion for higher altitude and for gluten free. All this together with really yummy pictures, makes for a wonderful cookbook that I will access over and over again.

Cookies for Everyone: 99 Deliciously Customizable Bakeshop Recipes by Mimi Council offers readers the recipes and detailed instructions for baking a variety of cookies. From soft and chewy basics to sandwich cookies, biscotti, macarons, and Florentines, easy recipes to help home bakers master the art of cookies, including tips for gluten-free, vegan, and high-altitude baking. Mimi's Tips and Tricks walk readers through key steps and techniques, demystifying baking; her clear instructions cover everything from basic cookies to sandwich cookies and biscotti. Cookies for Everyone is a well organized cookbook for cookie lovers. I love giving cookies for gifts around the holidays- so this book was perfectly timed for me. I like that the book offers the basic how to's, equipment advice, and ingredient information before even touching on the recipes, so that those that have never been bakers can catch up to the more experienced readers right away. I also liked that there are specific instructions at the beginning of each chapter- because making some styles of cookies require some different techniques even if the basic ingredients are the same. I also like the there are instructions for changing up recipes to be gluten free or at high altitudes included for recipes. No one needs to miss out on their favorite cookie or guess at how to make changes to a recipe. I enjoyed the selection of cookies in the book, and how well organized it was. I do have a collection of cookie cookbooks, and am someone that spends much time researching for the perfect set of recipes for my holiday baking. I have to admit that I am not likely to buy any more cookbooks, but if I were this might just make it in my collection. I do highly recommend it for library collections, and would certainly borrow it from my local library to revisit some of the recipes.

Cookies for Everyone is a solid cookbook with some great cookie recipes. It is well structured and written- making it accessible to new and experienced bakers alike.

I LOVE this cookbook!! Im serious, I have never once bought (or found) a cookbook that made me want to make every single recipe inside. I even went to the store and stocked up on pantry staples so I am able to whip up any of these recipies right away! Ive had this less than a week and I've already made two cookies (Best Friend and Salted Chocolate Chunk), and theyre instant crowd pleasers.

Being lactose intolerant, it is important to me to be able to find some good desserts I can bake using substitutions, and this book does that wonderfully. The chocolate chunk cookies had people asking me what I used to replace the egg, and were surprised when I said nothing, that they were so good even without an egg or egg substitute! The Best Friend cookies I used DF butter in and they came out just as perfectly, and I recently got my hands on some DF heavy whipping cream so now I can REALLY make all the recipes in this book!

I have always considered cookies to be my favorite thing to bake, and the one thing everyone around associates me with, and this cookbook is really going to elevate my game. I was so tired of seeing the same few recipes on pinterest, and none of those even came close to this cookbook! Ive also talked with the author on instagram, and she's insanely nice and really encourages those who have tried recipes in her cookbook. I dont write reviews for books on here often, but I just needed to share this for the world to see!

I received a galley via NetGalley.

I have been baking since I was old enough (& tall enough) to stand on a chair at the counter and stir the dough. I have been a professional baker with restaurants and catering. So for me, I am always looking for a new recipe or a new spin on an old recipe and I was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of Cookies for Everyone. I’ve read cookie cookbooks before that had the old standards and nothing really interesting. This featured the often forgotten biscotti, macarons, and florentines. I loved that the order of the sections and recipes themselves were easy to hard so a beginner doesn’t jump into the harder macarons and get discouraged before they truly begin. Council goes into everything one needs with tools and ingredients to be able to bake on any occasion from holidays to ‘I just feel like it’. Even better was that she put in adjustments for altitude (not a first) and for Gluten-free. This is a bakery book to be truly celebrated for that fact. I even appreciate that the book is organic based. But it makes me happy that she explains why the organic ingredients and how it may change if you use something else without judgement for those who may not be able to afford the healthier goodies. Great for the beginner, intermediate or even the pro wanting new ideas.

I have never read a book by Mimi Council, or been to one of her shops, so when I saw this available I jumped at the chance. I have recently found out that I have several food allergies that have been troubling me over the years without me knowing it. This book, I was happy to see, helped me find choices that would work around those restrictions. There was, however, some things that I found a tad bit deceiving. The ingredients she used were often, more likely, name brand items that she personally used and were not on the cheaper end. This is not one that I could follow to the T because of cost measures. It did have great ideas and cookies that sounded, and the ones I made were super yummy. It has one thing that love for any cookbook, pictures for the recipes. I feel like that is an indulgence that I want in any cookbook. I give this book 5 stars for the beautiful pictures and yummy recipes, but I have to take away a star for the fact that I could not always afford the ingredients. Next time, I hope the author will take that in consideration for her readers who are already having to spend money on specialized diets, and use more general ingredients that most people can easily find and afford. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Inclusive Cookbook

The author means this book's title in several ways. It's a cookbook for every type of baker, from beginner to experienced. The author does a good job explaining different requirements of baking, including some of her favorite ingredients. The cookies range from relatively simple to more complex. The book is full of pictures, so you really get a sense of how the cookies look... and they look amazing! The book is also for everyone because she includes gluten-free and high altitude baking instructions for every single recipe in the book. How thoughtful! There's even an entire vegan cookie section, and some of those looked and sounded so good.

The book is organized in a unique way. Some chapters are based on texture, like the first one after the introductory section, with soft and chewy cookies. Other chapters are based on specific cookie types, like florentines, sandwich cookies, or macarons. There's even a chapter for butter-based cookies, including a variety of shortbreads. The book is not just recipes. The author comes across as a wise teacher as well, and she also shares some of her experience running a bakeshop, which I found fascinating to read. If you're into cookies at all, this may very well become your go-to book.

Thank you NetGalley and DaCapo Press/Hachette Book Group for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

Who doesn’t like cookies? The author owns an organic bakery and writes from her own experiences in baking. I got hungry just looking at the photos of her mouth watering treats. She includes vegan as well as gluten free recipes.
Then, for those that eat most anything, she has delicious cookie recipes for us.

Biscotti are a favorite of mine and I look forward to trying several of those recipes. Council’s instructions and recipes for macarons appear to be very straightforward. Never having made a macaron, I would venture to experiment with her recipes. They look fancy and tasty.

If you like to bake, especially cookies this book belongs on your cookbook shelves next to other classic cookie cookbooks. With school starting within the next couple of weeks, serious cookie baking needs to begin for inclusion in bag lunches and for after school snacks!

All easy to follow recipes with easy and simple ingredients, this is sure to become the go to cookie book in my family.

If your looking for a cookbook for all types of cookies, this is it! I was pleasantly surprised at the diverse cookies available in this book.

It has more then your traditional cookies (you won't find sugar cookies or chocolate chip), you will find soft and chewy, sandwich, butter, vegan and more cookies. The variations were great as special diet cookies are included. No one in my family will be left out with this selection. The nutrition guide is included for each recipe and there is a color photograph.

I loved looking up recipes based on my craving: today I wanted chewy so I went to that chapter. I also didn't see one recipe I wouldn't make!! I received an ARC via NetGallery and I am leaving an honest review.

This was a very good book. First has every cookie recipe you would want. The second is to follow the instructions. Third, the author also has alternative recipes for each one. Which for me was great since my daughter cannot have gluten. This book really turned out to be very helpful. But the author also has vegan free and nut free also. You can see that she has gone to great lengths to look into all the different diets and restrictions that are out there. Besides all of the different cookie recipes, she had biscotti and even one for your dog. The dog treats worked out for me since we got a dog and was simple to make. Like most of her cookies, I find to be easy to follow steps. Overall a very good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Cookies for Everyone is an easy to follow recipe book providing a menagerie of cookies for you to try. They cover anything from soft cookies to macaroons. Some require equipment to have the perfect thin and flat cookie, but they are so pretty. Ready for a tea party or Sunday brunch. I was disappointed to see that this book isn’t for EVERYONE. Yes, the baker could use the products they have on hand, but that isn’t the intention of the author. This cookbook was written with the belief that only organic products would be used, even down to the organic m&m’s called SunSpots. I don’t mind cookbooks or bakery books that focus on organic, but don’t call them for everyone since you know it isn’t cost effective for the majority of those who bake your cookies at home.

I received an eARC of #CookiesForEveryone from #NetGalley in lieu of my honest opinion and review of the book.

This is a fantastic recipe collection for cookies. There are 99 delicious offerings with several variations for your basic cookie recipe. Chapters include Vegan, gluten free, Biscotti, sandwich cookies, and tips for every stage of experience. The illustrations are beautiful and I can't wait for cooler weather to turn on the oven and indulge. The recipes are easy to read and very clear instructions make this a fun cookbook. The measurements are printed for both American cups and tablespoons and British weight and ml. Great gift for a new cook starting their own cookbook library. Everyone needs several great cookie recipes to add something special to their everyday menu. A great cookie can make even the dreariest day seem better. Just ask Cookie Monster! Mimi Council provides us with many options in the same book. You will find gluten free, keto, simple and not so simple cookies that will make you a bakery chef without buying 6-8 cookbooks since they are all included in this one. So many choices, where do you start? My family and I started by each of us picking a recipe and making them. Clear instructions and recipes made with pantry staples have earned this cookbook 5 stars from us.

I really appreciate a cookbook that has lots of colorful pictures and this one surely didn't disappoint. The book is separated into several different cookie types. The recipes were varied and I did like that the author did include ingredient dry weights for those that like to weigh their flour and such. One thing that was useless to me was the gluten free and high altitude directions as I would never utilize those. I don't consider macarons to be cookies either so that chapter was not needed to me. I did try several recipes and they all turned out really well. I appreciated an entire chapter with vegan cookies and my family's favorite cookie came from that section.

I Lol'd at the author's suggestion to "buy Jem Organics sprouted, stone-ground chocolate hazelnut butter" to make her Chocolate Hazelnut Minis. Sounds delicious, but the cookies were just as tasty when made with store-brand nutella.

I also made the Chocolate Fro-Yo from the book, and although I still haven't cracked how to keep my homemade ice cream from getting too hard in the freezer, this frozen yogurt was SO GOOD when thawed enough to stick a spoon in, and for bonus points I added chunks of leftover Chocolate Hazelnut Minis batter to the ice cream maker in the last couple of minutes, and it turned it into a chocolate brownie batter frozen yogurt that I am greatly obsessed with.

The first recipe had me hooked 'Dad's coconut chocolate chip cookies'. Honestly, I'm not a cookie-connoisseur by any means. Most of my baking is given away or done with my niece rather than for my own enjoyment. However, chocolate chip cookies are my one cookie weakness. I can pass up a lot but not a fresh homemade chocolate chip cookie. And then to add coconut - that's it, the plate is mine.

I like how simply the book is laid out (a must for me who can't follow basic directions). I would have preferred numbered instructions but appreciate that she has gluten-free recipes and high-altitude notes. It's also fun to dissect what the cookies are as opposed to the name of them (Best-Friend Ever Cookies have pretzels! Most are straight-forward). I would have never come across apple pie cookies or to think of mixing peanut butter and cranberries together in a biscotti.

My challenge is to try Mimi's recipe for french macarons, since I've failed the million times I've tried before. Overall, a great book for dedicated cookie lovers/bakers.

Cookies. Cookies. COOKIES! Followed by: MORE COOKIES. Seriously, this cookbook is not kidding when it says "cookies for everyone" - there's not just what we traditionally think of as cookies, but also biscotti, macarons, sandwich cookies, stuffed cookies, glazed cookies....cookies cookies cookies. Enough to make your pancreas hurt. So next time you're looking to make some cookies but you don't just want to go with plain ol' chocolate chip or snickerdoodle, give Cookies for Everyone a look-see. Because it's got cookies. Cookies for everyone.

I honestly have to admit I am a cookie lover. My greatest indulgence simply because you can control the Portia size and try to walk away with just one... haha like I could even. This book is incredibly detailed even to the organization of easier recipes to the more complex. It explains what tools to use and why ingredients were chosen. I feel there is something for everyone in this one. Exceptionally delicious and some are quick and easy. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review. Fantastic cookie book I love it.

This is a great cookbook for bakers of every level. The photos made my mouth water and made me want to start baking ASAP! There were so many types of cookies (rolled, dropped, filled etc.) it was hard to know where to start.

My favorites were the macaron recipe, which I had never tried before. The directions were clear and easy to understand and my macarons came out great! I also successfully tried a few of the biscotti recipes.

Thanks to Hachette and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I randomly picked this up around Christmastime on a display at my library. I thought it’d have a ton of cookies and I could make some for my holiday celebrations. There was no sugar cookie recipe which I was kind of looking for and the chocolate chip cookie recipe had coconut-ick!! I felt there were multiple of the same, just different flavor varieties. I’m also not a big macaroon person so maybe this just wasn’t the cookie book for me! However, I felt it covered good ground with the GF and vegan recipes, so everyone can have some deliciousness!

With a title like Cookies for Everyone, one would think that it would have a bit of all kinds of cookie recipes-yes? No. The cookies all looked pretty on their professionally photographed plates, but where were the easy-to-make, lazy-bakers-standby the bar cookie? Nary a one on the horizon amidst the herds of macaroons.

But one positive thing it had going, with each recipe are options for gluten-free, vegan, and high-altitude versions.
