Once again another enjoyable over powered main character isekai slice of life by author FUNA. Overall it's an enjoyable read taking a few hours though it wasn't quite up to the level of the first one, part of that is the author doing a 4 year time skip in the middle of the book then just glancing over the "changes in the world" in a few paragraphs like nothing had happened, and honestly it felt that way. The character made no meaningful progress at that time, her interaction with other characters, her personality, and the world at large didn't change that much, making it feel like there was no reason for it to have happened in the first place other than to advance other characters ages and have the main character realize that she doesn't. But with the characters behavior in the first book and the first half of this one it would be an impossibility for nothing large scale to have happened with her at the center of it for 4 years. Anyways, if you can get past that glaring and unnecessary inconsistency it's still an enjoyable read. To be honest no one really reads these types of books for consistency so if you like over powered main characters, slice of life, and isekai go ahead and check this series out.

This was quite the mess of a volume that sees the protagonist going from "oh i'm just going to live normal while being a major celebrity" to "FUCK THIS SHIT I'MMA JUST GONNA COMMIT MASS MURDER!!!1111". While FUNA's protagonists tend to have their extreme sides, Kaoru in particular really goes the extra mile to the point it becomes a turn-off.

There is a sort of surrealist mood one must be in before trying to attempt to read FUNA works, but in this volume of Potions, the swing of tempo really gets a bit much. Coupled with the fast pace it tends to take, I felt myself being lost a lot in this volume.

Volume 2 has the exact opposite problem to volume 1: the start here is fine, but halfway through it gets tedious. Miles of explanation. Whole pages of block text over-explaining what's going on. The power-fantasy elements look like they're going to go entirely over the top (not that they weren't that way already) in the next volume... It's going to be a while before I try volume 3.

Aside from that, this is still an acceptable read. The humour is good. The broken power dynamics work for that humour so far. The four-year time skip is... about par for the course. The swaps in perspective continue to be irritating but tolerable. It's an okay read that made me laugh out loud in places.

Why does she act like a teenager that never learns?

I liked the first book in the series, so I decided to buy the next one as well. And I guess it's a decent book, but it got a little predictable and boring after a while.
And even though she is supposed to be 27 she certainly doesn't act like one... I guess it's just how her personality is, but I can't stand characters that are both intelligent and stupid.

It's not necessarily a bad book, but not one to my liking.
I feel like I wasted my money on this book, so I will not buy the next one.

*Small spoilers*

I mean, she complains about how she doesn't grow... Why doesn't she just make a potion that ages her slightly. That way she can keep growing like a normal person until she has the same body she had on earth.

And since when does medicine HAVE to be a liquid. She keeps going on about potions, but she didn't ask for the power to create potions, but medicine. Medicine comes in many different forms.

She could sell tea with medical effects and avoid drawing unwanted attention.

If she wants to heal a scar or cut she can just put some paste on it and a bandage and tell them to leave in on until the next day before making her escape. That way she can disappear before starting any commotions.

And why bother to go look for a husband when you know everyone around you looks at you like a 12-year old? Shouldn't she make sure she looks at least 15 years old to the people around her if she really wants to find a husband?
And why don't the people around her point this out to her when she obviously doesn't have the common sense to think of this?

But that's just my opinion.

The book consists of two parts. The first half Kaoru has to deal with the repercussions of her abilities when church and hostile nations set out to kidnap her. The ability to craft any potion with any container of your choice can be surprisingly effective at a battlefield. The second half is after a short time skip with Kaoru leaving on a journey after she realizes she is not aging at all and contains a few episodic adventures on the road.

Much like volume 1 the story is light hearted and entertaining with a writing style that draws me in. The author pays some decent attention to world building, including creative use of cheat powers of the MC and a decent reaction such a power would have on society. The characters are likeable and the situations funny enough. At the same time though the author avoids really exploring some interesting titbits he touches upon, and very little (if anything) changes about the MC.

All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I might start on the 3rd volume, but probably only when looking for a bit of simple entertainment. The lack of developments for the MC means there is fairly little incentive for me to continue the series.

I'm not sure if I'll ever really warm up to this author. This is the second FUNA series I've read and once again the story starts of interesting but starts going downhill by volume 2 or 3. The author has a certain type of humor and template of writing and character archetype that only a certain palate will like. I love slow slice-of-life isekais but this volume particularly was really messy to read.

I love it

I can’t believe how much details the novel has. I’m finally realizing that Karou is helping that world advance too quickly and she is noticing her influence on it. I can’t wait to see what her friends do.

Just as good as #1

I am loving this series! Funa doesn't disappoint with his books. Easily one of my favorite authors! Looking forward to seeing where this story goes in Volume 3.
