Flow #3

Drift

Rate this book
She wanted freedom. But freedom comes at a price.

Quin believed that a life away from The Beck would make her happy. But when a cruel twist of fate forces her to leave sooner than planned, she struggles to come to terms with her new reality. Haunted by memories of the people she left behind, she finds herself wishing she was back in Patrol, with Cam by her side.

Cut off from The Beck, the escapees carve out a new existence on a small island. Tentative bonds are formed, but as disputes surface and rebellion is threatened, Quin quickly realises that their new home isn’t the sanctuary she had imagined. And when one of her fellow citizens is willing to go to desperate measures to save those he loves, he puts the entire community in danger.

As they hatch a daring plan to save themselves, Quin is faced with a terrible choice: protect her friends or follow her heart.

Drift is the third in the Flow series, which follows Quin as she battles to forge a new life in unfamiliar territory without the man she has come to depend on.

Warning: contains violence and some upsetting scenes. Recommended for a 13+ audience.

Clare Littlemore

Clare Littlemore is a young adult dystopian and sci-fi author who thrives on fictionally destroying the world with a cup of tea by her side. The tea will often be cold, because her characters have a way of grabbing hold of her and not letting go until the final page of their story is finished. They regularly have the same effect on her readers.

As well as being a writer, Clare is an avid reader. In other people's books and her own, she enjoys imagining how the world might look in a few decades and considering how ordinary characters might deal with the extraordinary situations the future throws at them. Clare lives in the North West of England with her husband and two children.

As Quin gets deeper into learning about the Beck, she discovers that life outside does exist.

With plans to escape by boat, Quin intends to remain behind with Cameron while some members of the resistance make a break for it. The groups’s plans, however, are foiled by the appearance of the Shadow Patrol, and Quin ends up on the boat to another land while Jackson remains behind with Cameron.

The grass is not always greener, however, as Quin and the others discover. Having been able to smuggle aboard her friends Cass and Harper, confusion ensues when they land at the Crags, the secluded land former Beck members have used for their base. There is little food, and most surprisingly, no one to regulate their days.

Not everyone who was rescued appreciates it, either. Harper’s friend, Thomas, is especially belligerent about everything from food to supplies. Can this group of 20 survive without destroying each other?

This was another good installment in the series. Living at the Crags, Quin learns that others - not from the Beck - live on the Ridge and are not to be trusted. Who could these people be, and why are they trying to harm them?

This book delves farther into interpersonal relationships among the Beck members now living on the Crags. There are a lot of strong personalities and disagreements about which way leadership on the island should go.

I enjoy how Quin tries to give everyone a fair pass, even Thomas, who is incredibly rude. This book has no romance in it because Cameron stays behind to keep an eye on the Beck while Quin ends up on the rescue boat. It’s still good, though!

Ready to read the last installment to see where everything ends up!

This novel is an excellent sequel in the Flow series. I love how it picks up right where Break left off, with Quin and her friends travelling away from the controlling Beck society to their safe haven of fellow resistance citizens. This novel is about the struggle of the newly situated citizens and their attempts to develop their society and make a life for themselves in their new home, called the Crag. They are met with other groups of people, struggles between the citizens for power, and then a drastic illness.

This is an exciting and captivating read. I love the world that Littlemore has built, and I love seeing how it develops beyond its initial boundaries, both physically and emotionally. The characters are well developed and relatable, the interpersonal struggles are well formed without being cliche, and the struggles they face make it feel like a survival novel alike to Hatchet and more of this genre.

Again, Littlemore leaves us with quite the cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book! I eagerly awaited this one and I'll eagerly await the next, as I can't wait to see what happens with this small, strong society trying to recover and rescue the Beck from the Governance. The world feels so huge and well developed, and we're so invested in the lives of the citizens who remain in the Beck. The exploration of this world Littlemore has created is so fun.

This series really belongs with the young adult dystopian heavy hitters like the Hunger Games and Divergent. I'll definitely be recommending it to any young adult fans, both teen and older. Another success! I can't wait for the sequel.

Relationships deepen and territory expands in this well written third book in the Flow series. The conflicts and challenges faced by those who have left The Beck increase and new relationships form, but to what end? I found myself eagerly turning pages to find out what happened next. Already ready for Quell!

I am ready for the next book!

This book holds a new place, new friendships, and new struggles. I enjoyed seeing Quin realize her true feelings about Cam, as well as how that affected her participation in the events in this book. I am ready for the next book and the wrapping up of the series.

I received a digital arc in exchange for an honest review. This is simply my opinion on the book and is not influenced by any external factor.

I have to say, I think Drift was by far my favourite of the series to date. It was nothing short of amazing. I read this in the span of a few hours, unable to put it down.

Life outside The Beck isn’t the paradise it seems to be. Yes, you get away from the injustices and terrible secrets and practices of The Beck, but creating a new society out of nothing isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Not only are there challenges from the newcomers (*cough* Thomas *cough*), but we watch our group of escapees have to face the threat of other civilizations and the imminent possibility of attack with such a small army to defend them. Although they have some supplies and ways to get nourishment, these are by no means as extensive as in The Beck and are limited to the basics, and are in no way equipped for a wide spread illness (better stop there to prevent spoilers).

A couple of things to expect: a visit to the Beck, betrayal, death, illness, despair, action and adventure.

Like always, the characters were all well developed, and Quin herself gained more courage and independence. The only character I can honestly say I didn’t like, for obvious reasons, is Thomas.

And that ending – makes me wish I had book 4 now to continue the exciting journey and see how this puzzle is handled.

Again, a very clean read, but contains violence and dark themes which may not sit well with younger readers.

Overall rating: 4.5/5 (rounded to the nearest full star).

This is the third book in the Flow series. I wish this series was more widely read, because it is well-written and a bit different without being ‘out there’.

It is hard to talk about this book without spoiling the two previous books, so I will keep it pretty brief and will not really touch on the plot.

I love the author’s writing style. It is easy to read, uncomplicated, but still intelligent, which I really appreciate. As far as this particular book goes, it feels a little on the slow side, but I still really enjoyed it.

The struggles of our main character Quin were interesting in this book. I enjoyed getting to know the new characters and the new setting with her. I particularly like Quin as a main character as she feels very normal. She could be anyone, but at the same time she is brave and caring. Yes, I like her.

Where the book lacks a bit is description. I have to admit I do like a bit of flowery writing and this book has none of that. For example, we are never told even what the characters look like – at least not in this book. It does not bother me particularly, but it was something I noticed and it made it feel a little clinical in places.

I will definitely be reading the next book. If you like a bit of dystopian YA every now and then, please do check out this series, because it really is pretty good!

Disclosure: I was given an ARC of the complete series by the author. This is my complete and honest review of the series.

I absolutely loved this series. The synopsis of the plot really intrigued me when I first saw this series. This book follows Quin and her life in "The Beck", a dystopian society. In each book, you follow Quin grow and find herself and what is important to her. I typically read a lot of romance books, but this book really caught my attention in other ways, which honestly is slightly unusual for me. While there is romance sprinkled throughout the series, it is more of a subplot than the main focus. To be completely honest, a lot of the time I will kinda zone out of series like this, but this book kept me completely interested until the very end. The plot is so well thought out and develops in a great way. I read each book in a day, as I never wanted to put it down because there was always some aspect of unknown hanging in the air. If I could have changed one thing about the series, it would just be the way it was ended in the epilogue. It was wrapped up well, but I wished for slightly more on the solution aspect and more exploration of Quin's romantic life afterward, but that is probably the romance enthusiast in me. Overall, I highly recommend this series. I guarantee that 99% of you will love it.

SPOILER ALERT IN THIS REVIEW: The third book in the flow series was a phenomenon due to the absolute mystery of what is happening. Everything is so unpredictable even for the characters and this is what makes it so good. I was very happy that Clare allowed for some rivalry between characters as this is a theme i love in books and once they left The Beck in 'Break' i was worried that we wouldn't see as much of this as they would be working as a team. Although not my favourite in the series, it was still high up in the clouds for me in terms of how much i enjoyed it and i was hooked onto the story far quicker that the previous two books as well! My attachment to the characters did nothing but spread over this book, especially Quin and Baker which would go so much further in 'Quell' finding out the secrets that intertwined them. Overall i loved this book and think it deserves the attention of all dystopian fiction lovers.

This was a fun read to see what world exists outside the Beck. They are part of the Crags now and we start to learn about a near by community on the next island. I enjoyed how the Beck citizens didn't know simple pleasures existed until they left the Beck.

One downfall... no Cam in this book except for his walkie talkie calls once and awhile. This series would have been that much better with dual point of view including Cam.

I did fall in love with many more characters during this book though... Tyler, Green, Rogers, Harper and Walker. The supporting characters were strong and supportive to each other. Of course I felt for Mason during this book. His love was lost and he was lost without her. When he finally reunites with her, I feel like the author did not spend enough writing on it. That reunion could be so much better.

I jumped at the chance to continue this series and I snatched it up as soon as I finished Break. Following Quin's adventure kept me glued to my kindle. Life is different away from The Beck but it has its challenges as well. There's always at least one that is never satisfied with others making decisions even if they don't know squat. I found myself angry at Thomas many times. When they have to go back to The Beck for medicines to save the lives of those at The Crags, life gets even more complicated. A tentative cooperative venture with folks from The Ridge is formed to carry out this daring raid. Can they retrieve what they need? For some reason, I thought this was a trilogy, but it's not. There's one more book in this series yet to come. So I anxiously await to see if Quin and Cam are reunited. Will life become better for those left in The Beck? Is there hope for the future? I can't wait to find out. I do recommend this series. It is well rounded in both world building and characters that you can both love and hate.

I read this immediately after the previous installment. I did enjoy the book and the pace was quite good but I have to say I felt like the story was dragging a bit now. There is so much that could happen, and the characters have so much potential but I didn't feel like this book capitalized fully on that. I would have liked to have a bit more action and some more interaction between the two islands. I have gotten a little bored of the protagonist to be honest, she keeps repeating things and being selfish.

I'm aware I'm not really selling this book, it wasn't all bad I just felt it lacked the overall pace and action which I was expecting at this point in the overall story. 3.5

In Drift (Flow#3) by Clare Littlemore that I received as part of the complete collection from BookFunnel, Quin believed life away from The Beck would make her happy, but having to leave sooner than planned she struggles to face her new reality and she realizes their new home isn't the sanctuary she imagined. She then has to face the choice of protecting her friends or follow her heart. I am really loving this series and definitely recommend. The books are available individually and as a set on Amazon

No Spoilers

Quin discovers that life outside The Beck is not without a new set of problems that are potentially as life-threatening as those she left behind. This book is beautifully written and edited. The characters are well developed and the relationships between them ring so true. I really admire the level of gender equality that is evident in this story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Exciting plot

I couldn’t put this book down. For some reason, I enjoyed this one more than the first. It was exciting to see how this new community navigated their new found freedom from the Beck. I was so hooked that I even brought this to work and read bits in my breaks. This one was definitely well written and worth reading. I look forward to the next and final book in the series.

I had been looking for a good series to read and I had been looking for a long time and I stumbled upon this series and I was so glad for it! I've never read such a good series honestly, now I won't give any spoilers but this series will keep you hooked from start to finish. Its absolutely a wonderful dystopian series. The adventure is great and the feeling Clare expresses in her books is insane, I love this author and this series, thanks for the great experience.

Quin and her fellow Crag group recovered the sickness. As Quin says in the end, is freedom from the Beck worth it. Depends on how you look at it. If you don't mind being treated unfairly and lied to, then I suppose. But just cause you run away from one thing does not mean there will be other challenges to face. At least she and the group have more choice and decide where they want to be and how they live.

I was excited to read this book, but when the time came, I found myself hesitant to start because of the way Break had ended. There was so much that was unknown and I was afraid I wouldn’t like whatever happened next. Well, this book didn’t disappoint! It has interesting new characters and as much action and suspense as Flow and Break. I’m hoping the ending means a fourth book!

Love this series!

This story has captured me completely. The characters are so real. The story so sad and at times tense. I do wonder what "meds" refer to since there is not much to treat a virus. It must be aspirin and ibuprofen but I did think that part was a bit clumsy. Still very exciting book in this series. Am going to read the fourth book now.

Just wow

This adventure just keeps going and the story never backs down. The characters are amazing and the only critique I have is Quin's constant whining and lack of understanding regarding Cam. She is so bright in so many areas that this is a hard concept to accept. On to the conclusion of the series.

Enjoyed reading the book!

I think if I had read the first two books it would have been even better. There were a few places where previous events were mentioned that must have had more details in order to understand the reference. Good read!

Excellence continues

Very, very rarely do I write glowing praise for a book, much less 3. But this series continues to be excellent. It has not become stagnant, the characters continue to grow/develop, the plot continues to evolve naturally and the writing remains strong.

Not sure why I’m the odd man out here. Again, good writing and what not. I’m just so bored with the story. Basically, people get sick. That’s the whole build up for this book. I’d rate it 2 stars for being bored but the writing and fact that most people will prob like it made me keep it at a 3.

4.5 stars. I received a digital arc for an honest review.

It's a whole new world in Drift. A new land to most, new friendships, enemies and then a horrible sickness and not being able to save everyone. Who will make it through and who won't? Who is to be trusted and who will survive in the end?

This was a fun and high-energy installment. All new elements to explore, a whole new place and new people to meet and build relationships with.

I enjoyed the mystery of the unknown people on “The Ridge”, and trying to work out the new dynamics among the community on “The Crags”. Thomas’ character drove me to cursing, but it was realistic and added a very real element to the groups many challenges in setting up anew community with outsiders and the fresh concept of democracy.

I enjoyed that this book had no love element for the protagonist aside from teenage pining, and the only romance we saw were the existing ones among members of the community. It allowed the focus to be on the threats, challenges, and urgency of survival in the wilderness with limited resources and skills.

The ending on this one was a hell of cliffhanger, and I had to immediately jump into Book 4 to see what was happening ha!

Another great addition to the Flow series. This book moved a little slower for me, but the story was still great and left me worried about some of our favorite characters at the end... but they will be alright...right? They'll be fine...I'm sure...
