I’ll be honest — I hadn’t been thinking much about love or marriage. I’d met the girl for me and let her go years ago. And until I could make that right? I wasn’t looking.
Until my Durnish family reminded me that to keep my place in line for the Durnish throne (and my only real link to my homeland) I needed to tie the knot before I hit thirty.
The issue? There’s only one girl I’m willing to marry and I haven’t seen or heard from her in six years.
I’ll have to find her fast and hope she won’t be bothered by my lack of… experience. She’s the one. And until I find her again, I haven’t wanted to share my royal scepter with just anyone, if ya get my drift.
SOPHIE:
I followed Hamish MacEvoy to America six years ago, but what I found there told me right away he wasn’t waiting around for me.
Since then, I’ve built my own life — free of kilt-wearing football players, thank you very much. I have a successful business baking wedding cakes for the elite of the San Diego wedding scene.
But when Erica Johnson and Fernando Fuerte — who plays for Hamish’s team — came walking through my door, I should have hidden. Well, actually I did hide, but it all fell apart anyway.
I’m just not sure I’m ready to give Hamish a second chance.
I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.
I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)
I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! Please don't hesitate to get in touch to say hello, and don't forget to join my newsletter!
I'm sad because I think I might be outgrowing my enjoyment of this author's work. Her books used to be my go-to whenever I needed something fun and easy, sweet and safe. And while her work still fits that bill, it's become a bit one note and predictable. I would've loved her stories in my twenties and maybe in my early thirties, but as I'm nearing the big 4-0, her stories make me feel old. Like, how could you just run away without having a simple conversation and avoiding all the drama?
Anyhoo, back to this book. It was sweet. It was safe-ish. I loved that the hero was even though the MCs were separated for six years. I loved that the h didn't pine away the whole time and moved on. But what I didn't love was that she jumped to conclusions about what was going on. And I didn't love the cardboard villain or the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING.
Overall, this had its funny moments and I liked the MCs individually. However, as a couple they underwhelmed me.
The third installment in the Mr. Match series does not disappoint! An interesting twist for Mr. Match himself, but we all know true love prevails.
Hamish MacEvoy is 17th in line for the throne in Durnland, and is in no hurry to become King. But tradition is tradition, and according to tradition, he needs to be married before he turns 30 in order to maintain his birthright. But Sophie has been lost to him since he left Durnland. His letters and emails all went unanswered, so Hamish was forced to believe that Sophie had moved on.
But when Fernando brings a sticky toffee shortbread cake to dinner, he knows Sophie is in town. And baking cakes.
After Hamish had left Durnland, Sophie decided to surprise him and followed him to the States. But the surprise was on her when she found Hamish surrounded by beautiful blonde women, clearly not missing her. Unbeknownst to Hamish, Sophie stays in town and opens a wedding cake store. She’s just fine in her life, thank you very much, until one Durnish Prince walks into her bakery.
As they rekindle their relationship, trying to make up for six years apart, they also have to navigate Sophie’s stepfather, Hamish’s family and the Feats.
Meanwhile, Mr. Match is wondering how this all came about – without him.
Delancey will make you laugh and cry and give you all the feels. Not to mention sheep. And soccer players in kilts.

Here we see Hamish 'Hammer' whom finds his true love, though he's always have had one, the one whom he left behind in Durnish & that's Sophie James MacMartin, but he hasn't been able to get her to contact him in the 6 yrs since his departure & she's the one & only reason he's never hooked up with any of the other women, who tries to go with The Sharks Players. But it's out of the blue from his eldest sister who tells him that Sophie followed him over & that's gets his head in gear to try & track her down. So we hear how things go & the reasoning why she didn't track him/go after him. They move extremely fast with some comical episodes of their joining. Lucky the team are in their Off Season time as I don't know h how things would've worked out, or at least how long it would've taken Hamish to convince Sophie that she's always been his one & only. And we see doting during this time Max, who's determined to see if they are destined & fit together under Mr.Match without letting on why he keeps asking these odd questions. But Hamish makes him to start thinking slightly about the heart & not just in the mathematically way. Great read
Overall I liked this book. Hamish has been in love with Sophie for a long time. He finds out she is living nearby. The problem is that she saw something but took it the wrong way and this complicated things. Luckily in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.
The weakest book of the series. While it's a second chance romance, they're already in love when they meet again, and they say I love you on their first date. There was just no build up.
Hamish and Sophie had a story to end all stories. They grew up in the same small town, were friends, both wanted more, and finally admitted it right before he left to go to the states. Six years later, they both still love each other, but she believes that he has moved on (based on something she saw when she tried to surprise him by coming to town), and he didn't even know she was in the states. He thought she was the one who got away. Things progress quickly, and things seem to be going well. When customs and traditions happen, it all comes crashing down. It appears, due to he step dad, that he is only with her so he can keep his claim on the royal title (which he will never be king). She was so hurt six years prior, that she believes he was only settling for her. He regrets not telling her about the stipulation, but he has to find a way to get her to listen to him. The way he does is wonderful and the whole story had me swooning for "Hammer". Mr. Match is not in this book as much, because he has to secretly fill out his questionnaire on Hamish's behalf. He doesn't trust that they are meant to be without running the math behind the match. Will they be the perfect match or not? What Hamish tells Max at the end actually gets Max thinking a little differently. I loved this book and have loved this series. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
Hamish has only ever loved one girl & he made the mistake of leaving her behind when he left Durnland. Playing Soccer was all he had ever wanted to do, too bad it sent him half way around the world to play for the San Diego Sharks. Leaving Sophie behind has haunted him ever since. Sophie has loved Hamish since she was a child, always believing they would be together forever. She follows him to San Diego, only to find him with two beatiful blondes on his lap. Deciding then & there, that she must let him go, to live the life he was meant to lead. Six yrs later, Hamish learns from his sister that Sophie has been in San Diego the rntire time! He sets out to find her & win her back. This was a fun, laugh out loud, crazy story! Hamish has so many sides to him, he is boisteroue & loud with his teammates, but is also the one to keep them in line. He is soft, sweet & a bit shy when it comes to Sophie & is outright embarassed around his large crazy family. Sophie is a strong character & iIenjoyed her very much, if only she would have communicated with Hamish, they may not have lost so much valuable time together. The Feats of Marriage was crazy & makes me wonder if there are places that do things like this! Oh, & Mister Match does make an appearance in this story, just not in the traditional way. This is a sweet, sexy, slightly steamy story of childhood sweethearts who almost lost each other forever. No thanks to Sophie's stepdad of course!
Hamish is a prince... well, prince-ish, from a sinking island of Scottish stereotypes, and a football player (that's soccer for some of you). In the previous books Hamish was mostly known for his dirty emojis and he seems to have been overcompensating a little since we find that he is a virgin here.He has always been in love with a girl from his home island, but they got separated and he has been pining for Sophie for several years. He finally finds her when she bakes a wedding cake for his teammate who got matched in a previous installment of this series. Mr. Match does funny commentary in some interludes but he was not actually involved in making this match.
I liked the writing style and the little quips more than the plot or the romance. The romance is a done deal, they already love each other before the book starts, and the wedding customs of the islanders are a bit outlandish for the modern times. Hamish is not the least bit likely to inherit the crown but somehow the crown requires him to marry before his 30th birthday, the girl's father figure needs to give his permission, and before they can be wed they need to accomplish Feats which is islands speak for stupid stunts.
Hamish knew Sophie was the girl for him ever since they were children growing up near each other in their home country of Durnham. But he hasn’t seen her since he left for the US to play professional soccer six years ago. He was recently reminded that he has to marry by his thirtieth birthday in less than a year and told that Sophie has been in the US almost as long as he has. His friends Fuerte and Erica bring a piece of cake back from a wedding cake design shop that tastes just like his mother’s and he realizes where Sophie has been all along. But their romance is not smooth. She’s seen him with other women in public even though it never went any further. She’s been in other relationships since they parted. And he doesn’t tell her about the marriage deadline. There was plenty of humor in this second chance romance. The engagement feats were crazy. As were the sheep, bagpipes, and fortune teller in Hamish’s apartment building. Mr. Match didn’t have much to do with this one and I’m still hoping he finds his own romance in a future book.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Hamish and Sophie. Hamish is a soccer star in CA but he's from a small country where he is late on line for the thrown. Sophie is also from there but now lives in the states doing her best with baking. They grew up together and were always together. But when Hamish got signed to the Sharks he left Sophie behind. By chance she's making Erica and Fuerte's wedding cake, they have a sample to take to dinner. Hamish gets one taste of the Durnish sticky toffee cake and he knew Sophie made it. This begins a crazy whirlwind of emotions. He confesses his love but she worries since he can have any girl. Great continuation in this series. Love how the characters keep growing from story. I love the camaraderie between the team and significant others. Lots of laughs.

This is a wonderful second chance romantic comedy about Hamish who is 17th in line for the throne on a small Scottish island who leaves his homeland and the girl Sophie he loves to play soccer in the US. She eventually follows him but she sees him with beautiful models and feels she is not enough. Six years later he finds her and loves only her and wants to marry her and at the same time he finds out he must marry before his 30th birthday to remain in line for the throne. The author has an amazing witt as her characters are not only fun as it the story line but the added story line about Scottish traditions that must be followed before the wedding that cause all sorts of fun and havoc. This is the first book I have read by this author but certainly will not be the last. I already have more of her wonderful work to read. I highly recommend this fantastic book.
Hamish - aka The Hammer - is nearing thirty, but doesn't date. When his family reminds him of his familial - and royal - duty to marry before hitting the big 3-0, he realises that he's never wanted another woman, because he's still stuck on the one who got away.
Sophie has been in love with Hamish since they were teens, but after time and distance separated them, she wondered if she still had a chance with him. When they finally reunite, it's as if they never left each other. But, happily ever after - even for royals - comes with a few bumps and rattles.
This story doesn't have as much angst and tension as the two previous books in the series. It sets up Mr. Match's story perfectly, though, as this couple didn't rely on him for help with their love match.
I look forward to the final story, and am still enjoying the series.
Mr. Match strikes again. This time, is with Hamish, royalty from Durnland. He’s like sixteenth in line but does have royal duties. Like he needs to be married by his thirtieth birthday and he’s twenty nine. The clocks ticking. Though he’s a soccer player. And he’s kind of a Colton. Cuz he let the one get away.
Sophie is also from Durland and makes wedding cakes. Hamish was her past. Six years ago she followed him to the states then changed her mind and cut him loose.
Hamish is looking for Sophie and she’s baking his teammates wedding cake. He figures out how to find her through a task of her shortbread sticky toffee cake.

Good but simple I like this series whose common points are players of a football team who are involved in an application that should make them meet the soul mate, without knowing that the owner is none other than one of their teammate. Except that this episode is not built at all like this but as a second chance story. It disappointed me a bit by the simplicity of the story, a little too cute for my taste. The endearing characters already knew each other, and the rediscovery of the other is less exciting than in the other books in the series. By cons, I was happy to find the previous characters and have a follow-up to their story through this third book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Hamish is a distant heir to the throne in Durland but as part of his royal responsibilities he must be married before 30. This is a bit of a problem as he left the only woman he has ever loved behind in Scotland six years ago and she has ghosted him ever since.
As children Sophie and Hamish were friends but their relationship evolved into something deeper. When he left to go to the US to play soccer she followed him, however she was left with a broken heart when she saw him with other women.
When Hamish tastes a cake he knows that it was baked by Sophie and he is determined to track her down. Will he be able to convince her to give him a second chance especially when it comes to his royal responsibilities.
Muscular men in kilts - need I say more? One of them so enamored with a woman from his past that he doesn’t want any other woman despite those that throw themselves at him as a young, talented soccer star.
The part that will keep coming back to haunt us, though, involves Sophie when she first left home and started her own business seeking to forget Hamish and breaking ties with his family.
Aside from the romance, this really was an interesting story looking at the old traditions of a family with extensive connection to the crown in a tiny European village and bringing them to America to complete matrimonial obligations.
You’ll really enjoy this if you like a light, clean romance.
Reading this just solidified that Hammish is a big teddy bear, Sophie is his perfect match, and the two together are pure Durnish magic! I got completely sucked into this story from the very beginning. I enjoyed it all, even when I was immersed to the point where I wanted to backpedal for Hammish when I knew the snag was coming for them. This book pulls you around by the feels and does not let go until after both Epilogues are done, and even then, it stuck with me. I cannot wait to find out which Shark gets targeted by Mr. Match next!

Another great story in the Mr. Match series. This one is a little different. Hamish and Sophie have known each other since they were kids. Hamish left his home country and his love, Sophie, six years ago to play soccer in San Diego. He has never gotten over her. Sophie came to San Diego a few months after Hamish did, but never told him that she was there. Hamish's sister tells him that Sophie is in San Diego, which he did not know for 6 years. He looks for her, but can't find her. Fernado Fuerte and Erica Johnson happen to go to Sophie for their wedding cake. Hamish and Sophie's relationship is rekindled.
Maybe it was because Hamish is my favorite or maybe it was because it was a second chance romance and had nothing to do with Mr Match, I was a little disappointed in this one. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it, but I thought the story didn’t work for the series being about the dating app. I did like the prequel you can get from the link, which tells how Mr Match got started and his motivation behind it. But between that and the comments made throughout this book, it seemed more like a setup for Max’s story, than Hamish’s.
This book has kilts, bag pipes, but no Highlander!!! Lol. There is a sort of prince, a country that is sinking and sheep, lots of sheep! There is am hunky man who is almost 30, a star on his soccer team, and sends the most outrageous inappropriate emojis... and the kicker....he is a VIRGIN.... wow pretty unlikely, but interesting. His childhood love is a wedding cake baker and hasn’t seen him in 6 years!! Someone from anther book in the series orders a cake and well you can and should read the rest. Funny and entertaining read!!!
Hamish's story was much anticipated by me! He is, after all, a handsome prince, the maker of dirty emojis and all fun. When I realize he's a virgin, I have to say I was skeptical. But Delancey Stewart can pretty much convince me of anything!
This was a wonderful second chance romance. Sophie was Hamish's childhood friend and teen crush. Their time apart was hard, but was likely what they both needed to grow into the adults them became.
This is a fun story. I definitely enjoy the Mr. Match theme!
This was a fantastic friends - to - lovers second chance romantic story. Hammish and Sophie are meant to be and fate intervenes to reunite this wonderful couple after a six year separation. Scoring A Prince will have readers laughing with this couple’s antics and in tears from their heartbreaking end. Readers will fall in love with Hammish, Sophie, and the Sharks soccer team. Readers won’t want to put this new romantic comedy with a touch of drama down.

Terrible disappointment Except for Chapter 2, which was one of the fiew times I had to set my Kindle aside so I could laugh out loud, this book was a desert of epic proportions. I kept alternating between wanting to hit Sophie upside the head and taking her to therapy for her raging inferiority complex. Hamish reminded me of Homer Simpson at his worst. And dragging innocent sheep into it was probably meant to be funny but just made everything worse.
Standalone. 3rd person POV with occasional 1st person. Steamy.
Book 3 in the series, this is the story of Hamish (Hammer) and Sophie. Hamish is a Durnish prince, but plays soccer for the San Diego Sharks. He has to marry before he turns 30, and with his birthday looming, he has to either forget the girl he left behind or find her. Mr. Match's involvement in this story was a bit unnecessary, although he does add some interesting viewpoints to the story. There's a lot of funny in this one, including some sheep, kilts, visiting relatives, and baked goods. Conflicts and resolution, Standalone and HEA.
I've enjoyed every book in this series but I must say that this one really clicked with me. A very funny and very sweet sports romance that has a splash of royal romance cleverly blended in, I found this book immensely entertaining. I adored both characters and thought that they were simply perfect for each other. A delightful romance with an almost magical air about it that will leave you swooning! All thoughts and opinions in this review are strictly my own.
This author has a unique approach to this story than any other romantic genre I’ve read. This is a slowly developed relationship between two natives of a small Scottish island. Interesting is the give and take between the two main characters but also learning about each other. But it is in this slow development that a truly cohesive couple emerges.

Characters that feel like friends. That what Delancey Stewart is creating in this delightful series. Each time I take a peek in to the world Stewart is creating, I find that I smile a bit more. It is fun to take some time and enjoy the Sharks of San Diego and the loves that Mr. Match is sure are their soul mates. Hammish and Sophie's story is sugary sweet and worth all the calories. Enjoy!
Delancey is quickly becoming one of my favorite author. This is coming from someone who typically does not like sport romances. This series is Amazing! I love the characters and Hamish is beyond wonderful! I fell in love with his character when reading the synopsis and the book allowed him to exceed expectations. I recommend this book, series and author.
