DI Ramsey and her team respond to the murder of an unidentified woman in a hotel room. She's been strangled ... and she has no identification, no purse, no keys. nothing.
Two more women are found strangled in different places ... each one bearing identification of the woman before them who was also killed.
What connects these women? When Sara starts questioning families of the victims, they find a lot of variability and shocking secrets.
Sara needs to know not only the who, but the why, as well.... before more bodies are found.
On a personal level, although things have been going really well with Sara's new boyfriend, Mark, she gets some startling news and immediately break up with him. His persistence and Sara's fear puts him in the cross hairs of some really nasty men.
This is the 3rd outing for D I Sara Ramsey and although this reads easily as a stand-alone, I highly recommend starting at the very beginning. The characters are finely drawn and breathe life into the story. With this author, I always know what I'm going to get ... plenty of action and a terrific story premise which will leave me panting for more.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Absolutely Fantastic story!!! DI Sara Ramsey is back with her Team, investigating a string of murders of beautiful women, found in different spots around Hereford. Interwoven with this is signs of Sara's past still causing problems in the life she leads now, deadly messages and a hint from the officer who put away her husband's killer that the gang goes after the victim's family when the leader is locked up!! I think DI Sara Ramsey plans to stick around and does not want an end to her series, the plots, action and characters we can all relate to improve in each book with intriguing hints of what is ahead!! Her ex-husbands' brother Donald is still acting strange, her new lover, Mark, is back after a chilling experience with the gang, and with the ideas this author takes from the headlines and translates into sheer entertainment on paper for us all I am very excited to look forward to the next! A thrilling ride through criminal life, shown through the eyes of a criminal, an officer, and the victim as we are introduced to each one on a personal level, able to feel their wants and needs, feelings and fears through the amazing abilities of author MA Comley. A 5 STAR book you will NOT be able to put down until you reach the end!!!
I have no idea how M. A. Comley keeps coming up with so many new books, new story-lines, and even more dastardly villains with each release, but I'm just delighted that she does, as yet again this is a fabulous story.
I had absolutely no idea who the killer was, nor how the police were going to work out who the victims were, let alone the killer. It all took me by surprise in a nice way, as I wasn't able to predict it at all.
However what intrigued me more was the big ongoing series arc storyline in Sara's personal life, which leads to some awkward decisions, but also means we get to know her boss Carol a lot more too.
We really didn't get to see to much of the rest of Sara's team this time, but I'm sure with future books I'll get a more rounded idea about them all. They all seem to be solid hard workers which is what you need while investigating serial killers.
The killer was truly evil in this book, and the few insights into his mind, had me thinking what an unpleasant person he was - but then again you don't really meet pleasant killers!
This is another excellent addition to this very promising series. Bring on book 4!
Thank you yo Mel Comley for my copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
As things come to a head in Sara’s personal life, her working one doesn’t seem to be going much better either. You have to give credit where credit is due, as Sara is a woman with a lot on her plate and yet she shows a huge amount of strength even though there are signs of cracking.
I love Sara and this series. It has all of the authors trademarks of being a fast paced and gripping read. Even though numerous books under her belt, she always manages to keep them feeling fresh and current and never fails to write about a crime that either shocks or horrifies me, sometimes even both! This is why I just keep coming back for more.
The Dead Can’t Speak is another brilliant read in the DI Sara Ramsey crime series. The story will certainly send chills down your spine whilst having you on the edge of your seat. The pacing was great, picking up the closer to the end we get, of which was the topping on the cake, so to speak. Loved it.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Mel Comley is one of those authors that is simply gifted with the ability to tell great stories. The Dead Can't Speak was another example of the author being at the top of her game. I love how she wove a story through the victims past - revealing that things weren't what they seemed. I give the author an A++
So D.I. Sara Ramsey is back for her third outing and this one is much more shocking than usual! The opening scenes were compelling reading and probably some of the creepiest that Mel has written as we watch a killer interact with his victim before murdering her. When Sara and her team find the woman’s body in an hotel room, she has no identification on her so it’s up to Sara to find out who she is and hopefully catch a killer before they can commit murder once again.
I do love this series and it’s Sara who keeps me coming back for more. Her private life is just as intriguing as the cases that she has to solve and here she has to make a shocking decision about her relationship. Her reasoning is in the right place but will her heart agree with her? It doesn’t help that her friend and colleague Carla is single now but they need to put their private lives aside to catch one of the most chilling psychopaths that Mel has ever created! Honestly, I had goosebumps as I watched this killing spree continue.
This was a quick read for me as I galloped through it, desperately needing answers to the questions I had. This series works so well as I have really taken to Sara and I have to say that I loved the last page! I’m already chomping at the bit for the next in the series to see what awaits our heroine there.
I really don’t know how Mel Comley manages to consistently bring out such high quality crime thrillers. Her ideas are always fresh and exciting which, when combined with her action packed plots, grabs her readers attention and makes them fans for life!
One of the things I love about M. A. Comley's books are her characters are never one-dimensional. They have real lives, with real life problems. Sara's team has real lives with real life problems. They support each other and yet aren't afraid to call each out if it gets too deep.
In the Dead Can't Speak we have a dastardly villain, with no redeeming qualities. We get an opportunity to meet his victims, women he's used for his own purposes. Women who care about him, and may even be in love with him.
If you've followed Sara's story with No Right To Kill and Deadly Blow, you're up to date on her husband's murder. If not, I highly recommend you start with No Right to Kill and get to know Sara. She's waited a long time for her husband's murderer to be brought to justice, and now it seems she's finally going to get her wish. But will the price she has to pay be too high? Will it destroy her career and her personal life? Well, you'll have to read the book to find out.
Add to the mixture her husband's still grieving family and their demands on Sara's time. And seriously, what's up with his brother, Donald?
A fantastic character driven thriller/mystery. Love the neighbors, and I look forward to a long running series on this one. All three books are available at Amazon and also available on Kindle Unlimited.
Book three in the DI Sara Ramsey series and it’s safe to say I’m addicted! One of the things I love about Comley’s books is that there is always a backstory running alongside the main one; so alongside the murders that DI Ramsey is investigating, she also has to deal with her boyfriend being kidnapped! The characterisation in this series is brilliant, they’re multi-dimensional characters who we get to know, flaws and all.
I really loved this book, it’s a little darker than Comley’s usual fare but it’s all in keeping with the storyline and written so well. Whether you’re new to Mel’s books, or read them all, this is one series that won’t fail to impress! Five more shiny stars from purplebookstand!
Once again I am totally blown away by the talent of this unstoppable author. It is a mystery as to how she manages to come up with one 5* gem after another and at a speed that no other author can compete with.
One of the things I love so much about MA Comley’s books is the way the reader can get to know the characters in such a personal way that they come to life through words and I can almost believe that I know them personally.
In this third book about DI Sara Ramsey, I was left wondering just how much Sara could cope with in her personal life after losing her husband violently and just as she was beginning to recover she is slammed with another devastating personal whammer while still needing to carry on with investigating string of murders and as well as deal with threats to her own safety.
I can’t recommend this series highly enough and if possible, each one just gets better.
The Dead Can't speak.....oh they can I was trying to save this book to read but nope I had to start it right away, and finished it within a day. I love Sara and her team we are still getting to know her her past comes back to haunt her yet again. While dealing with this she has to solve murders that are happening around her. Can't wait to follow on with Sara I'm sure she will be getting into a lot more trouble as we follow her and her team. Love this series would recommend to anyone.
I really enjoy the DI Sara Ramsey series. These stories always have a great plot. In this book, we get to know DI Ramsey’s boss better and she shows a very caring nature towards Sara. I always enjoy reading how the team work so well together. M.A. Comley has another hit on her hands here. I highly recommend this book and series.
Another great read in this brilliant series, it's well written, it keeps you guessing and I wanted it to go on for longer. I'm not sure if there is going to be anymore but I hope so.
Another great read in the DI Sara Ramsey series. I love the characters in this series, in particular, Sara and Mark. Brilliant storyline that makes you want to read more. Highly recommend it.
I couldn't wait to read this the third book in the Sara Ramsey series and, once again, Ms Comley didn't disappoint. I'm off to buy book four now. Moreish, addictive, and thrilling--what more could you ask for?
This is DI Sara Ramsay's third outing and, as usual, I would heartily recommend you start from book one and read in order. It's always good practice but there are things that happen in this book that make more sense given that background and, as they are all great reads in themselves, why wouldn't you?! A woman in found dead in a hotel room. With no identification and having given a false name on check-in, Sara and her team have literally nowhere to start with their investigation. Until that is, there's another body. This one has ID but, to confuse matters, it belongs to the first victim. As the body count rises, it looks like they might have a serial killer on their patch but who and why is proving difficult. If that wasn't enough, Sara is still being watched. This comes at just the wrong time for her as she is just starting to leave her past behind for a brighter future. But this happiness is scuppered when a face from her past threatens more than just her life. It then becomes a race against time in both her personal and professional lives to deal with the really nasty stuff going on. I make no secret of the fact that I love this author's work. I devour every books she writes as soon as I get my hands on it. There's not many that obliterate my TBR but these books never want to wait their turn! After all these years and so many quality reads I just know I am in for a wild ride with every new book I start. Her trademark banter between her extremely realistic characters - some a little close to the knuckle - singles this author out as one of my favourites. It's hard to comprehend given the sheer volume of books this author delivers, how she manages to make each one unique in storyline. When coupled with her no nonsense attitude to getting on with said story without any superfluous waffle or padding, she manages to deliver what I would categorise as being my ideal read. This book was no exception although I do have to say that I thought he rolled over a bit easy at the end for me although, having thought about it, it isn't beyond the realm of credibility so I'm happy to accept it. Especially given what happened in the rest of the book! All in all, another cracking read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Roll on next time...
This is the third book in the DI Sara Ramsey series and it is superb!
I loved the plot for this one, the pace is spot on and the book marches on at a great speed dragging you behind. There are a few unexpected twists but all in keeping with the story and they give it an added edge and depth.
I love Sara, she is a down to earth character that rubs people up the wrong way, she swears, says sarcastic comments, get the hump, and is such a believable person, the development the author has done bringing her to life is excellent! She is very well rounded and she has a good back story to give her an added dimension too.
I loved this story, it is another fantastic addition to the series – no hesitation in giving this author another 5 star review – this one was a complete page turner (or clicker as I read it on my Kindle) and I flew through the whole things in a few hours!
It is very highly recommended by me and it is out today so you can grab your copy now!!
I absolutely loved reading this book from the start, it was unputdownable for me. Read it in one sitting! The story was well written, set in and around Hereford and involved the crime team of DI Sara Ramsey.
There is an unidentified woman murdered in an hotel room, DI Sara Ramsey is called in. The name she registered under is false and the photo appeal draws a blank. Then there is a second a murder where the ID of the first woman is found. Just what is going. Is it coincidence? Or is it the same Killer?
Then DI Sara Ramsey has her own problems and is being threatened as the killer of her husband has been caught and is going to court. The gang are behind what has been happening to her, the poisoning of her cat, the stripper on Mark's car, the paint on her door.....now they could go further. What will she do? What will they do?
It was a fantastic read from start to finish. I loved both threads and how they were come to a conclusion, it was great writing. The best book yet of the series for me!
Having read all the books in the Sally Ramsey Series - each better than the last - I have to say this book exceeds all expectations. Based in Hereford, Sara and her team are confronted with seemingly unsolvable murders. The murderer appears to leave no evidence as to his identity but, gradually and with a great deal of work, the case comes together. Meanwhile, Sara herself is confronted with personal threats, connected to the death of her husband, putting the lives of those she loves at risk. With her private life in turmoil, will Sara manage to hold it together in order to hunt down this ruthless killer whilst, at the same time, protecting her loved ones? Another truly gripping and poignant story from the very talented M A Comley. Can be read alone or as part of the Series. Truly Gripping Page Turner. Very Highly Recommended.
This series goes from strength to strength: I highly recommend reading them order to get the most out of the series.
DI Sara Ramsey and her team are called to a hotel to find the naked body of a female with no ID. Their job was made more difficult by the fact that she had checked in under a false name. It is not long before they have another murder to solve which is linked to the hotel body. The victims’ families have been misled by the victims as to their whereabouts which makes things more confusing.
Alongside these investigations, Sara is receiving threats from the gang involved in her husband’s murder. The book is a rollercoaster of the two stories and, yet again, we get to know more about the police team.
I highly recommend this book - in my opinion, Mel Comley has another hit on her hands.
This is the third story of DI Sara Ramsey and her team. It’s not long before Sara and her partner, Carla, are called out to a body. There’s no I.D, so the team get together and try and find out who the victim is. They will need to inform their loved ones, as soon as they know. There is soon another body found, the killer is getting more brutal.
What made a real difference in this book, we are introduced to the person actually committing the murders. We get to know the character’s warped mind.
Carla is also dealing with something more private. She needs help with this via her superior, and her previous station in Liverpool. Really enjoyed this bit. It was really exciting and again, I felt as though I was there with them. A clever bit of writing.
The next installment in this wonderful series by MA Comley. Sara Ramsey. This series is top of the line and I love seeing just what would happen to this character. The story is set in amidst a pot of hard things in the life of Sara and she just had so much going on that you always feel bad for her. It does have a dark and dreary even depressing feel to it at first and that sets the tone for me. I love the feel of those books as you know that something good has to happen. This is the best of the series so far and had such a crazy and dark visage that I just can't stop thinking about it.
These books just get better. I think I write that on every review! But it’s the truth. I’m a huge fan of Sara & everytime I get to the end of a book I just want the next 1! We’re getting to know Sara more & about her as the books carry on. Her past is opening up and as I don’t do spoilers you will have to read the book yourself to find out what’s going on & who could be to blame. The case she & the team have to contend with this time is a deep 1, again, sorry no spoilers. This is getting to be a cracking series & really worth your time to read.
This has to be one of the most gripping books I've read in a long time. This author has outdone herself again, she just gets better and better. This is the 3rd book in the DI Sara Ramsey series and the load doesn't get any easier. Bodies of young girls are being found left right and centre and to top it all DI Ramsey's boyfriend Mark has been kidnapped too. This book is a definite nail-biting page turner and I look forward to the next one with great anticipation.
The dead can't Speak by MA Comley. Wow. A fantastic read. Love Sara character. She is a tough character. Also love Cara character. Love how supportive her boss was. Especially with Mark. I do hope there is more to come. Love mels books. 5*.Highly recommended.
This book was absolutely great DS Sara Ramsey has a terrible time of vandalism the police in Liverpool told her that the Gang leader called Wade he had been arrested DS Sara had a boyfriend called Mark and he was a vet Sara and Carla had a big case just starting and it was a question of the names I had an ARC from M COMLEY
The third book in the DI Sara Ramsey series is just as excellent, if not more so, than the previous two. Sara and her team are dealing with a particularly gruesome set of murders and on top of that Sara and Mark are in danger from a different front.
I love the way we delve in and out of Sara’s private life and learn more about her.
Unfortunately, the third part was no longer of the quality it started with. The DI remains stubborn in not mentioning her murdered husband's mafia threats. And now her boyfriend has been caught by the group and she can't say anything else they will kill him. This is not the way to keep the tension in it but much too artificial and no longer believable. Too bad the series started off so well.
In this, the second book in the DI Sara Ramsey series, a serial killer’s victim—the only one mutilated and dismembered—is an Asian woman. Unlike the other victims, even after the detectives learn her identity, the woman’s name is never mentioned. Thus her name is unknown to the reader until her brother voices her name—just moments before he is told that his sister is dead. Her name is Chowa Ming.
Stereotypical Asian caricatures abound: 1. The Ming’s home “smelt like a Chinese takeaway.” 2. Mrs. Ming smiles at the detectives and “bares yellow teeth.” Yellow teeth is mentioned twice in two pages. 3. Talking on the phone to her son Shiong Ming, she “jabbered in Chinese.” 4. Shiong Ming’s parents “hopped on a boat and came to the UK.” 5. The Mings’ front garden has no lawn. It consists of grey slate and a few varieties of grasses. But there were no complaints from neighbors? 6. Mrs. Ming is the only bereaved parent without a given name. 7. She has lived in the UK for 35 years but her “level of English sounded restrictive.” Note that in China she was a solicitor’s spouse, and she raised two children in England. 8. Mrs. Ming doesn’t understand what DI Ramsey asked: “Do you speak (much) English?” Is that not one of the first questions asked of most immigrants? Besides, where are you originally from?
Authors have opportunities to educate and, at the least, quash racial stereotypes.
The book started out allright. Then went downhill. Sarah doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the box. For a tough cop she gets too emotional, hysterical and weepy. Her relationship with Carla is very unprofessional. Plot is not too believable and certainly not suspenseful.
There is gratuitous violence. Since the killer kills each of his victims the same way it is unecessary to repeat. I also dislike the vulgar language.
