Lisa Blackwood is the USA Today bestselling author of the Gargoyle and Sorceress Urban Fantasy series. She and her new co-author, S.M. Schmitz, are also embarking upon a new Space Opera Romance series. Book one is titled, Vengeance: Warships of the Spire. It can be found in the Dominion Rising boxset anthology.
As well as writing, Lisa is also an avid gardener, horse enthusiast, and dog lover. She grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead. Freya, her ever faithful and beloved hellhound, ensures Lisa takes breaks from the computer so they can rid the garden of cats with delusions of conquest.
Sorceress Found is the prequel short story to the Gargoyle and Sorceress series. It begins with the introduction of Gregory, a gargoyle, who finds that he has awakened alone without his love. She has been snatched by the Lady of Battles and tempted to join her. He enters the trap and manages to retake his love, but in order to flee from the pursuers they must escape to the mortal realm where his love will be reborn as a mortal child. Short and convoluted, the story really sets up a protruded epic, but I think it’s a predictable narrative. Not very interesting to me, but those that love all things Fae, would probably enjoy this set-up story.
It is difficult to really judge a book based on thirteen pages. The blurb makes it sound like we follow Gregory as he searches for the sorceress and infiltrates the enemy castle to save her but that is not the case. The plot begins with Gregory during his escape from the enemy AFTER all these events have taken place. We aren't even told his name in the story as he has not been given his new name so I'm just going by the blurb in calling him Gregory!
It is a short prequel to a series. I like the idea of an intelligent gargoyle trying to save a child sorceress who he has to protect, finding her a new home while he has a long sleep to recover from his injuries. I might take a look at the first book to see what happens.
Lisa Blackwood is an amazing author let's just get that out there , and that cover is awesome you definitely have to pick it up when you see it . I loved this story from start to finish as the pages flowed and then before you knew it you was done and now you know your going to buy more because you have to know what's going to happen next . The main characters are fantastic and you have to know more about them . So just be prepared to buy this series once you start you have to have the rest .
For a quick 5 minute, 2 chapter read I guess this was ok. It was disappointed that it finished at 38% of the book and the rest was the first chapters of the next book in the series. Glad it was a freebie, but was good to read how the main characters ended up being where they were at the beginning of the first full book of the series, although I think more could have been done with this scene.
“Dawn of the Sorceress” is a boxset of the prequel, Book 1, and Book 2 of Ms. Blackwood’s Gargoyle and Sorceress series. I love this series so I was happy to see the boxset and reread those books altogether. Prequel - In “Sorceress Awakening,” Book 1, Gregory eludes to their birth and what happened before he brought them to Earth, but never gives us or Lillian the full story. Now we finally know! This is a great way to start the series or even read after Book 1. “Sorceress Awakening” – Is the first book in the series and was so interesting with all the supernatural creatures. Dryad, gargoyle, unicorn, vampires, and it goes on! Lillian comes into her powers after an attack by vampires and wakes up her gargoyle statue who ends up saving her. She and the gargoyle, who she names Gregory, have a very special connection, but you have to read the book to see what it is. This story flowed very smoothly and I finished it in a couple of days. There are a lot of fight scenes in the story and are a bit graphic so just be prepared. No sex scenes, completely clean. “Sorceress Rising” – Is the second book in the series. This series you have to read in order and each book is a new chapter/part of the main characters lives. “Rising” was a great continuation from “Awakening.” I love the imagery that Lisa Blackwood portrays. I feel bad for Lillian that she doesn't have all of her memories, she has no magic, and she's trying to do everything she can to save her family and Gregory. She has to make tough choices (lesser of two evils) and her choice leads to consequences that change her relationship with her gargoyle. I loved the addition of her biological family, especially her younger brother.
Sorceress Found: A Gargoyle and Sorceress Prequel Story by Lisa Blackwood Sorceress Found: A Gargoyle and Sorceress Prequel Story by Lisa Blackwood is a touching story about love & protection. I gave it five stars.
It's also about magic. A gargoyle escapes Death Hounds with the young sorceress & crosses through the veil where he rescues a young boy & asks for help before he turns back into stone to heal. He begs the woman to guide her in the right ways & knows her memory will be erased after crossing through the veil into the Mortal Realm, the land where there is no magic.
There is a sample chapter included of Sorceress Awakening, book one of the Gargoyle & Sorceress Tales. It is intriguing. "The gargoyle was one of her first childhood memories. At the age of eight, after a near-drowning accident stole her memories, she'd been drawn to the stone statue as if he was pivotal to her survival. She always assumed her strange need to be near him was a result of her childhood trauma."
I received a complimentary e-copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.
This is a very short story which features a gargoyle who is more animal in nature than person and can't talk, running off with a small child to escape from demons. We have no idea who the child is or how any of this situation came about, nor why the demons are so keen to have the child.
I enjoyed the descriptive writing and felt the gargoyle was well realised.
The fact that no explanations are provided in this tale is linked to its being a prequel and the first chapter of the book after it is supplied, with considerably more gore and drama. We still don't know who, why or how. But you can see if you might want to buy the longer book.
This short story introduces two main characters from a series of fantasy novels. The titular heroine finds herself born again under the control of evil forces. Her forever companion is once again recreated as a gargoyle, but he is forced into the world too early in order to protect her. A very promising start with an ending which makes the reader eager to find what happens next.
It is a very promising prequel start with an ending that leaves me yearning for more. It's a short story that gives you a really good taste of what may come next in the series.
She finds herself born again in a world of bad forces. But this time.. she remembers everything from her past. But she can't use her magic.
Her forever companion, the gargoyle, isn't full term to born and have all his capabilities to.the fullest. But he most stops his full term to go and save her from those bad things. Someone needs to do something, and he will do everything to save her.. at all cost.
I can't wait to devour this entire series. I love it. 🖤💯

In a world of dark magic, a little spark of light still remains to fight the evil trying to overtake it. This prequel is a great beginning to a wonderful series about the bond between two halves of one soul; one female sorceress and one male Gargoyle, both formidable opponents against the darkness of evil. I now understand the first book in the series a little better and wish I read this prequel first. Now, on to book two!!
An amazing intro to the world of of the Sorceress and her Gargoyle ! I could not put this down until I was finished. Amazing world building makes you feel as if you are right there. The fight between good and evil is never ending and always more complex than imaginable. Being an Avatar to the Gods is dangerous but then having a hot gargoyle to protect you does make things better. Loved this book so much! I have already started the next in the series as I just could not wait.
So I just finished this short prequel to a fantasy series I didn't remember reading any of until the last 2 pages seemed familiar.
I think that's a problem with the writing, that the 2 primary characters are so blah and un-memorable, and kind of inconsistent, that I didn't remember reading about them within the last 12 months.
As I look over my review of the next full length book, I realize I was lucky I didn't remember. Do not recommend any part of this series
This was a very quick 5 minute, 2 chapter read that was ok but it should've been included in the first book. Really not sure why it wasn't unless this was an after thought. It did give a little background which did help going into the first book. It does really irk me when authors do this type of thing but I'm thankful it was free and not 1.99 for this little background.
I really enjoyed this. It was different then others I've read but oh so enjoyable and intriguing. I can't write much as I can't wait to continue so to see what happens next. Believe you have to give this a chance especially if you like magic, and I he struggles between good and evil.
Gregory is a gargoyle and an avatar to his people. The biggest problem right now is that his soulmate is missing. She's been captured and he will do everything in his power to save her. Great fantasy story that keeps you reading until the end. Received it as a free book and it's amazing
IMO this was definitely written for people who have already read and enjoyed the series, not as an introduction to it - at least it didn't read thus, and didn't stand up as much as Ms. Blackwood's other books I've read
I decided to read this before reading the rest of the series. It leads to a lot of questions. However, the premise seems intriguing and I'm definitely interested to learn what happens next.
This is a 2 chapter prologue that doesn’t deserve status as a separate book or novella. I plan to read the first full novel that follows this but as a teaser to the series, I’m ambivalent as to how interesting the series may be.

2.5 rounded up At 63 pages, this short story is really just a teaser to the whole series. It was a very basic introduction to the main characters and some of the evil ones. For what it was, it was a quick, enjoyable read. I say this as someone who reads A LOT and doesn't mind incomplete stories.
