An illustrated picture book offering a playful introduction to yoga through dinosaurs.
The latest yoga picture book from bestselling author Mariam Gates introduces children to the joys and benefits of yoga—through dinosaurs! Triceratops, Pterodactyl, T-Rex, and others learn to bend, stretch, and breathe through a yoga flow. Instead of being sad, mad, or frustrated when things aren’t going their way, the dinosaurs practice yoga to feel better. The book features a parents’ guide to the depicted postures and a glossary of dinosaurs at the back.
As the creator of the celebrated Kid Power Yoga, Gates knows that teaching children yoga sets them up for better habits of flexibility, fitness, and self-soothing. With Dinosaur Yoga, kids can stomp, stretch, and snort their way to skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

Mariam Gates on Vinyasa: "I knew right away that this form, this flow, was both asking me to move past my perceived limitations and giving me the means to do so at the same time." It did not take long for her to understand how powerful this work would also be for children. "It is never to early to deepen your relationship to your body. It is never to early to say 'I can do it!" In KidPower Yoga we encourage students to expand both physically and mentally to see their own truly great potential as human beings.
The Kid Power Yoga Program has been taught in the Boston and Lexington Public Schools and as a Professional Development Series for public school teachers: (YOGA 101)Yoga off the Mat: Bringing Yoga into the Classroom Setting - with a waiting list for all sessions. This book makes me laugh. Dinosaurs aren't fierce rather they are just trying to find some time to find inner peace and practise yoga. Ha. Kids can learn yoga poses with their favourite dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs try yoga to calm down their ferociousness. Rhyming text could be smoother, the way the poses are described in the text are wordy and hard to follow (back matter describes them more concisely) Dino facts are the end as well. Adorable drawings will draw in the dino fans who may take the time to relax and try some yoga. Fun footprints on the case cover.
This book was a really fun addition to my dinosaur-themed storytime for preschoolers because it involved movement, breath work, and more physical engagement, which made them a lot more engrossed in the storytime. It has a variety of colorful, fun dinosaur illustrations, along with poses, instructions for posing, and even instructions for breathing along with it too. I think this is one I would repeat, and it would work for a wide ranges of ages.
The cover of this book caught my eye because I find it to be adorable! I do love yoga & I love that this is a children's book because it can teach them healthy practices in a fun way. The end of the book describes the yoga poses and dinosaurs that were used in the book.
I love this fun book about yoga! I can't wait to read it with my students. We will try each of the dino yoga poses together. I love how there is a reference page about the yoga poses and the types of dinosaurs. So much fun!
One of the best yoga picture books out there, because of how it encourages you (er, the kids!) to pretend you're a dinosaur, but also because it actually goes through a flow you can reasonably do, instead of just a bunch of poses that you can't easily transition through.
This book would be excellent to read as you’re doing the poses because a lot of the reading is description of the poses. I think just sitting down to read, it would be too wordy for preschoolers but might work for Kindergarten and up, especially if after that the poses were done.
I like this book because it took an animal that kids tend to like and related it to our emotions. This book teaches kid that when they are mad to step away and breath, not to get upset and throw a fit.
