Seventeen writers/artists contributed to this collection of short Steven Universe tales, and while it has its ups and downs, it was a passably amusing Steven fix for me.
The first half collects the Steven Universe: Greg Universe Special and so has lots of father and son stories. It includes an outing to the Cookie Cat movie, referencing the single line that convinced me to keep watching Steven Universe beyond the mediocre first episode: The second half is the Steven Universe 2016 Special, set at the Big Donut and featuring lots of stories about yummy doughnuts.
It's all very nice, if nonessential.

I basically got this book on accident. I thought it would be by a different writer that I needed for an online challenge. It wasn’t, but I decided to read it anyway. My biggest impression of it is that a good half of it is about donuts. Now, this seems like a considerable amount of book to dedicate to donuts, but all things considered, I’ve decided…it’s not too much, I’m good with it.

This lovely volume is an unexpected treat: The publishers finally decided, in 2019, to publish the content from the 2015 special issue Greg Universe Special #1, as well as from the 2016 Special #1 (commonly known as the "Big Donut" special). I love this stuff and was always really disappointed when I had to tell people that the Greg Universe and Big Donut stuff wasn't released in any of the trade paperbacks (and wasn't even in the "All-in-One" super edition!).
I've already individually reviewed the Greg Universe Special and the 2016 Special, but here's a little review of what's in this. Please keep in mind that except for a tiny cover gallery (2 covers for each, plus the front cover), there is no "bonus" or new content in this book.
Greg Universe Special:
"Universe and the Moon" - Garnet rescues Greg from a tight spot and they have a heart-to heart while she floats him down.
"Pink Elephant in the Room" - Amethyst squirts water at the car wash while in shapeshifted form, inadvertently helping.
"Now in 3D" - Greg takes his son to see a 3D movie, but the Gems' presence in the theater causes problems.
"By Heart" - Steven's playing of music reminds Greg of Rose.
"Gregarious Gamers" - Steven fights a cursed video game??
"Snap Shots" - Greg gets snippets of news of his son's missions and is always there for him.
"Slam Buddies" - Mr. Smiley shares ads for wrestling action figures.
2016 Special:
"Clash of the Gluttons" - Amethyst and Steven have a donut-eating competition.
"The Big Donut Contest" - Steven enters a contest to design donuts and models his after his family.
"The Donut Thief" - A nefarious food swiper is really...an animal?
"Health Inspection" - Mr. Smiley is health-inspecting for extra cash and Sadie is desperate to pass, but a Gem fight keeps wrecking the place!
"How To Donuts" - Sadie teaches the Gems how to make donuts! Sorta.
"Food Fight" - A food fight erupts at the Big Donut. Will Lars's pants be stained??
"Donut Derby" - Connie and Steven make racecars!
This is definitely a welcome addition to the trade collections; it is such great content and it was a shame that until this was published we couldn't get some of the best stuff since it's been out of print for a while--some of it having been published before SU got a huge boom from the finale of Season 1 drawing in such a huge new audience! I recommend this collection!

3.5 rounded down.
Look, its a guest book comprised of annuals so the art is all over the place. Some stories hit home, some feel off the mark. Overall though, an enjoyable day trip to Beach City

Welcome to Beach City is a nice trade paperback collecting two items I didn't think would ever be available if you missed them in 2015 and 2016: The Greg Universe special and the 2016 ("Big Donut") special! Both of these larger-than-average special issues had beautiful art and touching stories--especially "Universe and the Moon" and "By Heart" from the Greg Universe special and "The Big Donut Contest" from the 2016 special. I love focus issues like these with various artists giving their takes on a theme. It is definitely worth grabbing if you never got to read the individual issues (or if you're a collector, like me!) and though it has no new bonus material, it does have a little cover gallery.

I will happily gobble up literally anything that is Steven Universe related, but one of these stories featured a baby raccoon and I have now become happily deceased. Oh my goodness. Right to the heart.
Lovely variety of art in this one, as always, and adorable wholesome SU goodness. Happy to see so much of Sadie too, love her character. We had a distinct lack of lion though, which is a little sad. I need me my Cotton Candy of the Jungle. I also recommend reading this with snacks as we see a lot of delicious doughnuts (all spelled in the American way, but hey, I'll forgive them). Yum.

A bunch of 1-4 page mini-stories by various artists, which is not my favorite type of collection. Still, Steven Universe!

I quite enjoyed these snippets of (mostly) ordinary life in Beach City. Few gems to capture, but some great food fights, contests, and lots of donuts!
