I liked volume 3 more than volume 1 (by far), but not quite as much as volume 2 overall, although some parts definitely shone.
I LOVED the way it explored the lore of the world and the new environments in a way that logically involved Flavie and still managed to not raise the stakes to something unbelievable or cartoonish. The power plant was great. The way Flavie used her skills and connections to get in was great!
When the book started I was struck by how Flavie was like, "oh no, a Friday night at home alone? no way, i gotta go do something" which was so DRASTICALLY different than her characterization in volumes 1 & 2. But this actually became a totally valid plot point and showed some real character growth so it ended up being a wonderful little detail.
We didn't get enough Elsie but I'm glad she was there to some degree.
Marco was a little weird in this book but I do like the overall message of complicated relationships and dealing with arguments.
I didn't like how the one three-eyed character that was part of their group just disappeared off-screen. I know the explanation was that the power plant was too rough for her but it seemed totally out of the blue and wasn't set up.
I hated how Flavie caused the issue near the climax that caused her to have to be all dramatic and risk her life - it was completely her own fault, it just made her seem stupid.
I HATED the 'romance' in this one, ugh. Alex was set up to be a protective friend character and was okay enough, if a little dumb, but also EXTREMELY bland and sort of just generally kind without being interesting at all. And then out of nowhere they kiss at the end??? Eugh. Why. It felt totally out of left field at the end and was not a pleasant addition for me.
Still, I enjoyed the heck out of most of this book, and I hope the series overall continues!
