Music and longing collide in this ballad of unrequited love!
Nino Arisugawa, a girl who loves to sing, experiences her first heart-wrenching goodbye when her beloved childhood friend, Momo, moves away. And after Nino befriends Yuzu, a music composer, she experiences another sad parting! Luckily, Nino reunites with Momo and Yuzu in high school, but things haven’t played out the way anyone expected…
After completing the in-store performance that marks their final act as an active band, the members of In No Hurry go their separate ways, each seeking a path to better themselves. Meanwhile, Momo finally crafts a song that captures his long history with Nino, but can he find the courage to ask her to sing it?
Sort of in shock this is the second to last volume.
That's not what I wanted to say for my review originally, but it hit me once I closed this volume.
I don't feel I'm ready to say goodbye…
This was an emotional volume but it felt deeper than the previous volumes? Maybe not as much as deeper as more of it wasn't saddening?
Now don't get me wrong, this volume had a HUGE sad point but again, it's different than before. While this series may have a lot typical shojo drama and angst, the mangaka doesn't shy away from heart-hitting topics. The more we've come to know about Yuzu's mom, the more my feelings have changed towards her.
In this volume, I would say it was overwhelming compassion. And even for Yuzu too! While he's not a boy anymore, he is still a young man who is dealing with grief in his own way. His mother is too but the impact of her grief is hard to see from the perspective as a mom and everything Yuzu has gone through because of it.
I was thankful that their scenes did not end in depressing heartbreak and that hope is on the horizon. <3
I LOVED things with Momo and Nino and how truly it circles back to the beginning! What an impact!! These two are such different people and while I have not always loved their decisions throughout the series, I really really liked how things came back to what they were, but different. (Trying to keep that vague because #nospoilers.)
Sweet moments with Kuro!! While I have LOVED Haruyoshi and Miou (and was SO happy we had more time with them!), Kuro's "romance" has truly been the most satisfying. I would love to say more on this because out of everyone who seemed the happiest, his smile definitely at times was just a mask. I'm glad that mask finally came off. <3
Overall, this was a good volume! Lots of heavy themes (but not in a bad way) that really left an impression!
Another promising volume! It was nice seeing the other members of In No Hurry come out of their comfort zone and pursue new things as well. Anyway, I can't believe this is the penultimate volume! Sometimes I'm surprised I've read this far but if the last 3 volumes were any indication, I'm hoping for a really satisfying conclusion from this series.
So the next volume is the last one and Anonymous Noise is doing what a lot of shojo series do. Which is having everyone finally confess their love for whoever and pair up so everyone gets their happy ending, which I hate that since it's so unrealistic.
Of course the final volume can have Nino not end up with either guy. But what is the obsession with having these series ending with everyone paired up? These are high school kids how many of us find our One True Love at 16?
When I think back to being 16 and those relationships I couldn't imagine wanting to spend forever with any of those guys. And not because there was anything wrong with them. But at that age you barely know who you are let alone know who you want to spend the rest of your life with.
God, I sound so damn bitter. I don't care. I wish everyone pairs up wasn't a trope that shojo runs on.
Long story short: I need to stop looking for reality in the manga I read.
I'm really happy that Yuzu makes it clear that they should do other projects while In NO Hurry is on hiatus because they all get a chance to try something different (and Nino gets to sing a song Momo wrote). The first time I've cried this entire series was the airport scene with Yuzu and his mom and it just hurts so much. Nino and Momo really work on fixing their friendship and I'm so glad they did.
"I'm really not scared of anything. I mean, this is what we're here for, right? To blow the tears right off of everyone's faces."
5 stars for the heartbreaking moments of Yuzu with his mother. And for Nino and Momo in the recording session together. I still don't like Momo. Who will Nino end up with?
Only one more volume to go. Rockin' on to the finale "Anonymous Noise"!
Almost the end of an era. I'm getting nostalgic, actually. It's been like two years since I started this, I think, and the last one is so close & I really do feel like everything's tying up together. It feels like yuzu has pushed Alice right into Momo's arms and he's accepted that, and maybe that's for the best. It's the ending we all deserve.
The highlight of this one was probably Yuzu's mom finally accepting his father's death and Momo giving his new song (a duet with Nino and Miou) to Nino to listen to, which expresses to her how it has felt for him to collaborate with her over the years. Recommended for ages 14+, 4 stars.
This was a good volume. I can't believe we are almost at the end. This volume continued to have a good plot and pace. *For a more detailed review see my freviews for the first few volumes and the last volume.
