My Anti-Series #1-3

My Anti-Valentine Collection

Rate this book
A bundle of three novellas:

My Anti-Valentine: Jaded by relationships gone wrong, Bret throws an anti-Valentine's Day party to celebrate being single and burn his ex-boyfriends' belongings. Bret's low interest in sex has destroyed every relationship he's had and tarnished his view of romance, but a cute blond guy at the party who says all the wrong things inspires him to hope for more.

My Anti-Boyfriend: Brad has everyone fooled. He's the casual, sexy friend. The fun-time guy who sleeps around. Except not really. There's one man who holds his heart: his best friend -- with benefits -- Riley. Too bad Riley has no interest in a relationship, and as far as Brad can tell, never will. But once Brad acknowledges his feelings for Riley, he can't continue to ignore them. Riley's days of having his cake and eating it too are over. Then again, maybe Brad is tasty enough to keep a man satisfied.

My Anti-Marriage: Love has never been a good bet for Chris, so going on a Vegas wedding trip for his friends is bittersweet. Especially when Ant, the last man to break his trust, is suddenly along for the ride. Which explains why Chris wakes up in his hotel room with the mother of all hangovers. Not so much why Ant is in his bed ... or worse, wearing a matching wedding band.

Each novella has previously been published. There's been no changes to content.

Book 1 My Anti-Valentine

This is short, funny and sweet. I really like the idea that one of the hero is graysexual. It seems like a such a big deal in romance where by default fictional characters can't keep their hands off each other more than an hour and need to fuck like rabbits, but I guess in real life, there are people who are too busy or not in the mood for sex all the time.

Bret hates Valentine's, the day that reminded him of multiple failed relationship because he is graysexual. Why did people thinks he needs to show his love by having sex constantly? Bret is not totally celibate, but he is rarely in the mood for sex. During the Anti-Valentine's Day party that he organized, he met Harry and they got into a heated debate about love and Valentine's Day.

Harry and Bret simply clicked together and they compliment each other so well. Bret is totally interested, but can Harry dare take a chance at relationship with someone like Bret? Will their relationship doomed to fail?

I think this is an interesting take in romance and I like how they both worked out their relationship and make some compromise. I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a similar theme full length novel if there is any.

Book 2 My Anti-Boyfriend

This is so good and I even got it when is free. Don't look down in this 58 pages, it was filled with so much emotion and passion that I find myself in a sob-fest.

Brad and Riley are best friends that hooked up often enough that Brad starting to develop feelings for his bff. Too bad Riley still view him as a piece of sure thing if he is too lazy to do the work of cruising for fresh meat. Riley is oppose to anything resemble a relationship, he is too jaded for romance.

Before you are irked out by their manwhore lifestyle, this book started at the point where by Brad wish for something different and giving off weird vibe to Riley. Oh poor Brad. I feel so bad for him for all his pining and unrequited love. So much emotion pouring through the pages while reading Brad's heartache. But Riley also is not having any better. He is thinking why is his best friend acting all weird and he can't seems to reconcile the fact that he might be losing Brad.

Gah! These two guys really did it for me. This book is fucking short, yet I love every little bits of it.

Book 3 My Anti-Marriage

This is a great addition and possibly the finale to My Anti Series. Not only we get a new couple Chris and Byant, we also get in touch with the previous two couples. Brace self for some sweet HEAs for all!

My Anti-Marriage revolves around their Vegas trip for Brad and Riley's wedding. There is some animosity between Chris and Bryant, mostly is Chris hating Bryant and trying to avoid engaging with him due to a misunderstanding. The misunderstanding was something predictable, though I really enjoy the banter between Chris and Bryant. Chris is all prickly attitude and didn't want to succumb to Bryant's hotness, while Bryant is trying to win back Chris. I'm impressed with the way Bryant actually use his head and heart instead of his dick to make Chris fall for him. He's such a gentleman.

The rest of the gang added much fun into the plot and I'm glad to see each other them still solid as ever. Fans who enjoyed previous two installments will enjoy this too.

#1 my Anti-Valentine

Bret and Harry

Oh dear I loved this one... two charming guys I just looooved them.
Harry he made me laugh and Bret goshh isn’t he adorable!

When Harry meets Bret it isn’t in the best way... Bret put together an anti Valentine party.
Harry is there with his niece and doesn’t understand Bret’s aversion about Valentine.

Harry has had it with all his meaningless one night stands. With nothing else to do he will go with his niece to a party...

After a bad start they end up with a kiss... Bret is honest to Harry and Harry need some time to digest it all.
So much humor, even the sarcastic ones, it was just delicious. The serious side of this story was really wonderful put down. The wide spectrum of asexuality. How they try to find a way that will work for both of them, searching... so both will be satisfied with the situation.
Honestly and love are the big words here.
I love both personalities very. The buildup was well done. The whole story was warm, considerate and well written!!

#2 my Anti-Boyfriend

Riley and Brad are best friends and fuck buddies.
But Brad it tired of pretending it doesn’t hurt he’ll always be a second choice.
Riley will never tie the knot... he’ll end up left behind like always... no strings huh not for him.
He’ll always have Brad in reserve... his best friend and best fuck buddy...

Riley don’t want any strings... he will be abandoned after all... like always..
Riley doesn’t understand why Brad doesn’t reply to his calls, messages or even attend to their club on Friday evenings... he misses him...
Riley is a hot seducer and even Brad can’t resist him... damn Riley...
When Riley finally understands what’s the reason, he has to make the choice of his life.

Between all the hot and filthy mouths we can find vulnerable men and aren’t they adorable!

I love this way of writing style... steady, to the point, clear, and even in this short story the feelings are all over the floor.
The friends from part #1 are there and that means even more fun!

#3 my Anti-Marriage

Chris had only terrible experiences with men... the last one was Ant... cheater Ant... and Chris is still angry..
Vegas yeahhh Riley and Brad... they want to get married ... in Vegas... so... the circle of friends head to Vegas for the weekend... Chris thought he would be the fifth wheel... but surprise... surprise
Ant is part of their circle as friend of Brad...

After a drunk fest Chris wakes up with Ant in his bed and both wearing.... a ring!!
They can’t remember a thing...
Chris is hurt and Ant hopes he can finally explain what really happened three months ago...
He doesn’t know how stubborn Chris is...

Hurt, comfort, friends, love, romance and hot sex... it’s all there.. wrapped in a lovely ribbon with a silken bow. The circle of friends is just great and their bond solid and unbreakable.
I loved this anti trilogy! The feelings are diverse and very romantic.
It was fun read with a positive vibe. After I finished reading I lie down on my couch with one big smile...

A great collection of stories!

I love how DJ Jamison tells a story; her novella length books are among my favorites. I reviewed these books individually as they were released. Below are excerpts from those original reviews.

My Anti-Valentine:
This is the first story I've ever read about an asexual/graysexual character and I found it both enlightening and entertaining. While it's short it didn't feel like there was any essential information missing and I loved it.

Bret isn't totally opposed to having sex as long as it's on his terms – it just isn't something he really seems to want or need most of the time. Harry wants a meaningful, committed relationship and he's attracted to Bret but he has to decide if he can handle Bret's lack of desire for sex as frequently as he would like.

My Anti-Boyfriend:
This story engaged my emotions right from the get-go!

I'm a sucker for many romance tropes but friends-to-lovers is one of my favorites. Brad and Riley have been friends and f**k buddies for quite some time. For a while that was OK with Brad – he knew that Riley was not into relationships – but now he's ready for something more. Brad is tired of always being Riley's "plan B" so he begins to distance himself from Riley.

My Anti-Marriage:
Chris and Bryant (Ant – I just love that nick-name) had a falling out when Chris thinks he saw Bryant cheating on him; he never gave Ant a chance to explain what was going on. Now the two of them are in Vegas for Brad and Riley's wedding. They wake up in bed together after a night of drinking and neither one can really remember what happened.

There is serious chemistry between Chris and Ant but they have a lot of things to work through before they get their HEA. I loved the epilogue – it's witty and sentimental and a perfect ending for Chris and Ant.

This is a really great collection of stories!

My Anti-Valentine
I thought this was absolutely lovely! Bret is totally jaded by relationships and love because he is asexual and made to feel that he isn't worthy. Harry totally finds Bret attractive and enjoys sex, so he struggles with whether or not he could be in a relationship where sex is minimal. I thought this was great. It focused a lot on the building of their relationship with friendship and romance without a lot of intimacy, and I loved how they did not gloss over talking about what they wanted and how to compromise about it. Very enjoyable.

My Anti-Boyfriend
I really liked how this ended up coming around. Brad and Riley have been best friends with benefits for years, but at some point, Brad's feelings started shifting for him. I liked how he grew a backbone to stand up for himself. For a short story, I really felt the connection between Brad and Riley and was happy to see them finally get together romantically.

My Anti-Marriage
This was a great conclusion to "My Anti-Series". Chris had a hard road leading up to Brad and Riley's wedding, and we get to see him finally realize that he deserves happiness and can trust again. Ant was a great match for him. Even though we didn't see Chris and Ant's initial dating encounters, I felt like I saw enough to root for them and happiness. The drunk marriage plot was well written, and I liked how it all worked out. I'd love to see the final weddings for Chris/Ant and Harry/Bret so that we could have a little more of these friends. I really enjoyed this series.

🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3

Enjoyable, loveable and funny!

The first novella in this collection was a great start! I found it so funny and cute, sweet but not too sweet.

I always admire an author who can create a world and characters so lovable and complete with so few words and DJ has done just that! The story is short from start to finish but complex in the character complexities and connections. This was my first story with an asexual main character and I loved Bret! He is totally relatable and I'm so glad he found his HEA with cutie, The Boy Who Lived (aka Harry). A great start to the collection!

I loved Brad!

This story is a wonderful friends with benefits to something more story. I loved the dynamics between Brad and Riley - hot, hot, hot! They are able to heal each other and find something truly special! I love a best-friends romance and loved the way DJ approached these two! A great novella with great characters. This collection is proving to be awesome!

I was so excited about Chris’s story and DJ did not disappoint!!!

This was my favorite novella of the trio. I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance and the dynamics between Chris and Ant are great. This was the longest of the three stories but I still wanted more. The ending was wonderful and I loved that they all found their happily ever afters!!!

A great collection, with a diverse range of characters and stories all, linked together by friendship. A recommended bundle!!

Overall. I loved this set. All three stories are fun to read and the characters unique and likable. All three stories are opposites attract especially
My Anti-Valentine-
Harry and three of his friends go out every weekend cruising for hookups. he is tired of that lifestyle and wants a boyfriend of his own. One to spend Valentine's day with. Heck even have a second or third date or a date period. After being turned down for a second date again, his friend calls and invites him to an Anti-Valentine party. He meets the one giving the party Bret, who is more cynical than he is about relationships...then he finds out why.
My Anti Boyfriend is about two of Harry's best friends, Riley and Brad, that was part of the group he cubbed with. Riley and Brad are best friends with benefit's but Brad has a secret. He wants more with Riley but knows he can never have it. he doesn't want to lose his friendship though.. Then he sees what Harry and Bret have and wants more, but can he give up the benefits part of his friendship with Riley?
My Anti- Marriage- The first page had me both confused and laughing. We meet Chris in the other two books, but I had never heard mention of Ant, the man he wakes up in bed with and hates so much. then in the next chapter, we find a little more out about Ant as it starts the day before. But after I got over my confusion of who Ant is I laughed my butt off about this and sighed a bit too

All of these books are sweet, fun and sexy. If you are looking for some short reads you can read these in no time one at a time, or as I did all in one night!

This is a collection of 3 romantic shorts in which one of the MCs changes their perception on relationships and love through finding the right person.

While each stands alone, they are loosely related by taking place within the same group of friends.

These stories were the perfect length to enjoy in an afternoon. They were long enough to tell a complete story without getting bogged down with unnecessary filler, making them much more enjoyable.

MY ANTI-VALENTINE

Harry just wants someone to love, who will stick around for more than a couple of weeks. He’s decided it’s never going to happen. He meets Bret at an anti-valentine party. Bret is a tired of his boyfriends leaving him. He doesn’t want sex very often and that doesn’t work for most guys. He thinks he might be asexual but he’s not sure because he does like sex once in a while.

When Harry and Bret decide they want to be together they know that it won’t be easy. But maybe they will both find something special they weren’t expecting.

I felt that Harry is a little impetuous and didn’t know how they would work around Bret’s asexuality. I liked that Harry wasn’t afraid to take care of his own needs even if it was embarrassing to get caught. They were both fairly naive about the issues they were going to face. Overall, it a cute short story about finding love and making it work. 3.5 Stars

MY ANTI-BOYFRIEND

Brad and Riley agreed years ago that they were just friends. No hearts and flowers for them, casual sex scratched an itch and that’s the way they wanted it. Until Brad’s unruly heart decided it wanted more. Tired of being Riley’s fallback guy, needing more, he pulls away. Riley can’t figure out what’s wrong with Brad, he’s always been available when Riley wants him. When one of his friends point out the inequities in their relationship Riley starts to think about Brad in a slightly different way. Maybe they could make it work?

I liked Brad but Riley was a hard guy to warm up to. Oblivious to anyone’s needs but his. He did manage to redeem himself by finally giving Brad what he needed and wanted, himself. See even when he gives into love it’s still about him. Another sweet story about love found. 4 Stars

MY ANTI-MARRIAGE

Chris is excited to be going to Vegas for Brad and Riley’s wedding, until he sees that his ex is also going. Ant had cheated on him before they even had sex. Chris had given up on a forever man and attending the wedding was not high on his list. Ant (Bryant) wants another chance to connect with Chris, he really wanted to explain that he hadn’t cheated, but Chris is determined to push him away. After a night of drinking they wake up in the same bed with matching wedding bands, no memory of what happened. Ant is smug thinking this is his chance. Chris just wants the nightmare to end.

We saw a little bit of Chris in the first two books. He came across as a good guy and that carries through in this book. Of the books in the series, his is my favorite. I really enjoyed Ant’s using the marriage as a way to get and keep his man. Chris’s stubbornness was cute in the fact that he really liked Ant and didn’t really fight that hard to deny the feelings. This was a sweet alcohol induce mess. What happens in Vegas might just be what you need for a HEA. I give this book 5 stars and the whole Anti series 4 stars. Enjoy

This collection of novellas is really difficult for me to rate because I had very different reactions and opinion's to each of the three.

The series of novellas follows a group of friends as they each try and find a lasting love.

The first one, The Anti-Valentine, was my least favorite and if I hadn't already paid for the trilogy I wouldn't have continued the series or tried any other work by this author. It came across less as a story and more as a lecture on (and in support of) one of my least favorite topics: label's. One of the lead characters Bret, is struggling and feeling jaded because his previous relationships have failed. Specifically because his interest in physical sex acts is not nearly as prevelant as other people he has met. Convinced that relationships are only based on willingness to engage in sex acts Bret has given up on them. Big focus is put on explaining that because of this Bret is an "asexual" and the characters researching what it means to be "asexual". I find this so frustrating. Why does he had to be labeled as something so different just because he has less interest in the physical sex act. Even in the later stories where he is not the main character he is repeatedly referenced as being asexual. The other characters don't get labeled as the gay promiscuous one, the gay slutty one, the gay normal one, etc but the author always specifies the Bret is "asexual" over and over again. There isn't any real character growth and I didn't need a lecture on what it means to be asexual.

The second story is an improvement, no big lectures or labels, but the characters are very very promiscuous which I find a turn-off. It's a miracle they haven't caught a disease or worse sleeping with multiple different men in a week, never repeating the same one twice unless it's with each other and the characters came across as clichés. There is nice character growth though as they recognize thoughts and feelings within themselves that they never consciously experienced and as the realize what truly matters to them and take the risk to make the changes that are necessary to hold on to that.

The third story was my favorite. Neither character came across as a cliché. Their past experiences came across as realistic. They make real-life mistakes like misinterpreting situations that cause them more trouble than if they had just been willing to communicate and find out the truth of things. There is lots of character growth. And it's just really well written.

It's not going to be one of my favorite series but the second and third one are worth reading. I'll skip the first one in future re-reads.

Arc Review copy provided by D. J. Jamison for a fair and honest review.

Bret feels very personal to me, as he's the closest to where I fall on the face spectrum an author has ever gotten, right down to not being into French kissing. I love it, right down to his continued hatred of valentine's day commercialism, and his use of a camera to hide from the world. This is exactly the kind of representation the ace community needs, as we don't all fit into one tiny, neat box. I just hope I can find an awesome person like Harry. Spot on, especially the insecurities both of them face negotiating their relationship.  4/5

Riley and Brad are friends with benefits until Brad's feelings won't allow him to let Riley to use him as a backup plan anymore. These two had great chemistry. I wanted to shake Riley, but their resolved but not really resolved tension was awesome.  My favorite, but I love the jealousy and obliviousness. Plus Riley has the whole bad boy thing cornered. 5/5

Real marriages, fake marriages, all the marriages. When it comes to Ant and Chris, hopefully what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. Chris has trust issues and Ant just wants to find the right guy. The perfect wrap up to a sweet shmoopy  trilogy. Minor warning for recounting of a non-con experience that happened to Chris during a one night stand prior to the story. 4/5

This is an adorable collection, I recommend it.

My Anti-Valentine

3.5 stars

This was a short but sweet read! I often found myself confused about the asexual spectrum and am only understanding certain branches of sexuality that fall under that: demisexual, graysexual, and demigray are the ones I know so far.

This short story features a graysexual character and I found it to be quite refreshing and it helped to learn more about it. That I appreciate most.

Harry and Brett were special and I loved their relationship.

My Anti-Boyfriend

Friends to lovers trope (sort of)

The two MCs are friends with benefits, but one wants a relationship and the other is by far too oblivious.

3 Stars

A lot of sexual activity between the two characters in this one. So, it diverted from its predecessor in that regard.

I did not like this one as much. I found one of the characters to be immature and unlikable. I did not connect to this story as much because of that. Talk about a clueless character. :)

My Anti-Marriage

Enemies to Lovers and a drunken night that leads to a Vegas Marriage

3.5 Stars

Previous couples from the first two stories make an appearance in this one.

I have to say that I love a good accidental marriage trope! Tie that in with a opposites attract romance and you have me sold. I did love the banter between these two MCs and their overall romance was enjoyable for me.

I've read all of the books in this series, starting with My Anti Valentine, moving on to My Anti Boyfriend as then this one, My Anti Marriage. This last one was definitely my favourite.

I have to say that I wasn't super keen on the first book in the series. I think that it was a good idea to include a graysexual character in a book, which is seldom seen, however, I never really felt a connection between Bret and Harry. I enjoyed them both as characters, they were very well written, unfortunately, I felt that they never really gelled. 3 stars for this book.

The second book was a definite improvement. The relationship between the two MCs was much more believable. Brad and Riley were made for each other. I really felt for Brad, but also sympathised with Riley. Although I could have slapped him at times, once I knew his background, his attitude was understandable. Brad was an absolute delight. 4 stars.

The final book was certainly my favourite. I absolutely loved Ant, his love for Chris was palpable. Poor Chris didn't stand a chance, despite his posturing, and disagreeable attitude towards Ant. I enjoyed reading about the way in which these two grew throughout the book. I thought the whole book was very well written, and I loved both the drunken marriage element of the plot and the outcome. Both Ant's and Chris' vulnerability was so sad, but when they finally get together, Ant's tenderness, when he's with Chris, is sighworthy. I also enjoyed all of the characters from the previous books coming together and reading about their happy endings. 5 stars for this last book in the series.

So, a good series, well written, with some well developed and likeable characters. Out of all the characters, Ant was certainly my favourite, loved seeing him in love. All books are most definitely worth a read. Recommended.

Having just finished reading DJ Jamison's My Anti Valentine Collection, I have to say that I loved it. As much as I love the stories in it, best of all is that they are all connected, and follow in order. This collection is fun, with some fantastic couples, and amazing friendships.

The first story focuses on Bret and Harry, who meet at Bret's Anti-Valentine Party. I absolutely love this story. They make a fantastic couple, and their relationship is amazing. Bret is asexual and has always struggled to find someone who is okay with their occasional sex life. I find Harry's reaction to this to be positively endearing!!

The second story is about Brad and Riley, who have been friends with benefits for a while. As their relationship suffers from Brad's desire to have a real relationship with Riley, their friendship is the main victim. I adore the way Brad and Riley come together, and I love the way their feelings change.

The third story is about Chris and Ant, who drunkenly get "married" in Vegas. Previously they tried dating but a misunderstanding ended their chances together. They are so good together, and the whole time in Vegas for the friend group is humorous.

All three stories, and the ongoing friendships are super entertaining and I love all of the guys.

Sweet stories about finding love that will warm your heart!

My Anti-Valentine:
Communication and compromise leads to an epic love. Harry and Bret find a connection that exceeds their expectations. I enjoyed their journey.

My Anti-Boyfriend:
Best-friends and lovers discover that their feelings change and try and figure out how to manage this change. This story explores how feelings change and sometimes we want something that we know the other person may not want. i really like Brad and Riley and i loved that they cared enough about each other to communicate and explore their relationship.

My Anti-Marriage:
Misunderstandings, dashed hopes, lack of communication and yet a connection lead to an unexpected journey. i so enjoyed this story of two beautiful men who find that they really belong together. They work through misunderstandings and really communicate and find love.

These three novellas offer three very different looks at romance, sex, casual versus serious commitments, and what makes relationships work or fail. The theme is “anti” because each of the couples start out with saying no to one (or all) of the ingredients in the mix. It’s an interesting look at the types of balance that can be achieved with a little – or a lot – of effort, as long as both parties keep an open mind. In the end, the only thing that counts is love in whatever shape it takes.

We get a good mix of tropes in this set of three romances, my favorite being the enemies to lovers romance in My Anti-Marriage. I love the banter that comes with that thin line between love and hate, and Chris and Ant give great banter. All three are fairly quick, steamy reads. The stories are entertaining and revolve around a group of friends and their search for love, some finding it where they least expect it, and some having to work a little harder at it. Either way, there's a little something for everyone is this fun romance collection.

This is a great collection of short stories perfect for Valentine's Day. While they can be read on their own they are connected because they all take place within the same group of friends.

Each story takes a different look at love and romance. The banter is top notch with all these guys. Each story flowed and are quick, sweet reads.

I totally recommend this wonderful collection of novellas!

This was a good series. In each story, communication is the key to all these relationships. And the lack thereof. But anything in life worth having takes work, and they all work at it. It's got some tearful moments and moments of joy, but most of all, it's so real. It's everyday relationships and people trying to keep them going, no matter what.

A lovely 3 story series

This is a really lovely group of 3 stories featuring friends who all find their happy ending.
Harry and Bret will always be my favourite couple as I read their story a long time ago, but each of the stories suited the couples and the ending left everyone happy.

My anti-valentine is a cute story about Harry and Bret, who happens to be asexual. I liked that Harry took the time to think about being in a relationship with Bret and what that would mean.

I wish there was a little more to the story before it jumps to a year later, but overall, I liked the story.

My Anti-Boyfriend is Brad and Riley’s story. The two have been best friends for years and friend with benefits. Until Brad realizes he has feelings for Riley.

I like this story and the little bit of emotional drama.

My Anti- Marriage - I like Chris and Ant. The two had me cracking up and smiling through their story. I enjoyed the length of this story as it gave the two time to work out Chris’s problem with Ant.

The Anti Valentine Collection is great. It's three different couples all three having different opinions about love. The collection is funny, romantic, some angst, but overall it's a great book. DJ Jamison always writes great books.
