Kristi Hartinger has come to terms with her life as a single, thirty-something woman. She was in love . . . once. But following her boyfriend's tragic death, no one else could capture her heart. And nothing else could fill that void, though the serenity of the ocean came close. Two years ago, Kristi left the craziness of her Wall Street career behind and embraced a simpler life on her family's private island off the coast of Maine. As a resident of the small beach community, she anticipates a quiet future until she comes face-to-face with her past. Ace Samson is dead, or so the world believes. As a member of a secret organization known as the guardians, he was forced to fake his death years ago, leaving everything behind when he became an agent. So when he is selected to offer a potential new recruit a job with the organization, Ace braces for the first time in more than a decade, he must face the woman he loved and left. Kristi's world is rocked by Ace's sudden reappearance, and she's soon drawn into his world of danger and cover-up. But when Kristi herself becomes a target, Ace will do whatever it takes to protect the only woman he has ever loved.

They say that the path to true love never runs smooth, but 20 years is a long time to wait! This is definitely a second chance at love book with a lot of suspense and trying to figure out who is the bad guy. You don't know why anyone would want to kill Kristi because she is really a nice person. (Since when do crooks need a reason?)

Kristi and Ace fell in love when they were young. The problem is that Ace died. At least that is what everyone was told. Kristi mourned him only to have him show up 20 years later offering her a job working for a top secret organization. He is a "ghost", an agent that works without an identity to protect others.

This book is a page turner. You'll start and not want to put it down until it is finished!

This was the perfect book for me to settle in with the last couple days. I was really needing something fast paced and exciting and this book, happily, delivered that. Yay!!

While this book is part of a series, I don't think you have to read them sequentially to understand. You might be happier if do simply for the sake of back story because each book focuses on a different character within a group.

Talk about a second chance at first love story! It's a bit rocky all the way through but that's what happens when someone is always trying to kill you. Poor Kristi has no idea how in over her head she is. Ace saves her life SO many times! I think for that reason alone she should give him a second chance, right?!

I loved the constant forward momentum, the danger, the building intensity, everything. It was fantastic and I was fully invested from beginning to end. When I was at the end with only a few chapters left, my husband wanted my help with something he was doing for me. I hated putting the book down for even a minute! It was torture. Ha. I love when books can pull me in so completely! It's no wonder why this author is one of my favorites in this romantic suspense genre.

Content: peril, violence, kissing

Sanctuary is another triumph for Traci Hunter Abramson. I loved this book. Her writing, as always, is perfect. The characters are stellar, the plot is twisting and suspenseful. This book has it all. I loved the different plot of this one. Ace is presumed dead, but comes back into Kristi's life, as she is needed to help the Guardians. Right away, there is danger lurking and everyone has their secrets. Old characters make an appearance and the bad guys, well they're bad! This book is part of a series, but they can be read as stand alones. As always with Traci's books, there is action, romance and page turning wonderfulness.

Another amazing, thrilling "Guardian" novel by Traci Abramson! Great characters, fast pace, filled with suspenseful and drama. I liked that Renee and Kade from "Safe House" were a part of this novel as well. I really enjoyed the characters Kristi, Ace and Samson the dog. I hope there will be future Guardian novels because I really really enjoyed it!!

I highly recommend this clean, thrilling, suspense fiction by Traci Hunter Abramson! Once you pick it up and start reading, you won't want to put it down!

Abramson is an author that I will automatically read because her books are that good. In fact, I didn't even read what this one was about and had a blast not knowing what was coming.

This is a GUARDIAN novel, but they don't have to be read in order, although knowing the back story to different characters is fun. Kristi lives a simple life on an island in Maine. I have a hankering to visit Maine now, to experience the villages, the ocean, the clams, and the quiet life. When Ace suddenly reappears in her life after almost twenty years, her world turns upside down, and not necessarily in a good way. Someone wants her dead and it's a race against time to figure out who and why.

I love Kristi's self-reliant, matter-of-fact personality. She loves being connected with her past and is good at taking care of herself, discovering ways to make her life more efficient. Ace is somewhat of a mystery, but he's good at completing any mission to the best of his ability. I loved the tumultuous connection between Ace and Kristi, especially because it served an important purpose to the story. There is an underlying longing of what cannot be, yet there are sparkles of hope glimmering in the peripheral vision of the big picture.

The danger and suspense had me on edge, as the quiet mystery of the forest and ocean served for most of the setting. I was on edge and deeply immersed, hoping with all my might for the outcome I wanted, as these twists and turns tossed me around. Such a great book!

Content: mild romance; mild+ moments of danger, violence, and peril

Traci Hunter Abramson is one of those authors whose books automatically get added to my TBR and wish lists. She's one of my favorite authors, so whenever she has a new book I start stalking NetGalley so I can request it and then squeal and do my I-got-approved-happy dance when I get the email. (I know some of my GR friends do the same thing--don't try to deny it.)

This is book #3 in the GUARDIAN series, but I don't think they have to be read in order. I haven't read the first two yet and I wasn't lost or confused about the backstory. Kristi Hartinger and Ace Samson were high school/college sweethearts until Ace died. That was 20 years ago. But Ace didn't really die--it's complicated and it's going to get more complicated when Ace appears on Kristi's island off the coast of Maine to offer her a job with the guardians--a top secret organization.

Kristi's peaceful, lowkey life is going to be a lot less peaceful when the love of her life, the man she's mourned for two decades suddenly reappears, but Kristi's going to be glad Ace is there when weird things start happening on her island.

Kristi is a practical, self-sufficient woman who is used to taking care of herself. She moved to the cottage on the island she inherited to get away from the fast-paced city life she had lived for so long. Kristi never had a serious relationship since Ace "died" because she's never stopped loving him. Ace didn't stop loving Kristi either, but I don't think he thought he'd ever see her again. He's a great "agent" (for lack of a better word) and seemed resigned to not finding that special someone because of the demands of his job with the guardians.

The only reason it took me three days to read this book is I had a lot going on that week. If I could have, I would've done nothing but read all day. It's a page-turner; once the action starts it doesn't stop. Kristi living alone on a small island that's mostly forest is a great setting for mystery and suspense.

This book contains mild violence, danger and romance.

Thank you NetGalley and Covenant Communications for my copy to read and review.

The Guardian Series is developing into a one, two punch of gripping adventures, that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In Sanctuary, the stakes are raised, and the pace steps up. We’ve meet Ace in the previous 2 books, and it was eye opening to get inside his mind, and learn his background as a Ghost. As one of the original founders of the secret organization that can access all government security outlets, Ace has been with the Guardians from the start. Now, twenty years in to his undercover work, and as long as he has been known to be dead by the one woman who has loved him, mourning for his loss for as many years, their re-introduction for the cause of the Guardians is a turning point.

Unknown to Kristi, she has been fighting what seemed a losing battle to keep control of her family Island - things are about to turn deadly. With Ace’s resurrection proving to be just in time, will her heart recover at finding out the only man she has ever loved is standing right in front of her.

Full of twists, and inevitable dangerous turns, this action packed novel will keep the pages turning.

For fans of Susan May Warren & other clean adventure fiction, you will love Traci Hunter Abramson, and especially this unfolding series.

This was such a fast-paced and action-packed story! The suspense had me on the edge of my seat at times and kept me hooked into the story.

This book is part of a series, and I would definitely recommend reading the other books before to better understand the premise and what’s going on. Having already read the other books, as well as the entire “Saint Squad” series, it was fun to revisit favorite characters and read Ace’s story.

Ace and Kristi had such an interesting past- high school sweethearts who were torn apart by Ace’s sudden “death”. Now, nearly 20 years later, Ace is finally able to come back into Kristi’s life and reveal the realities of what happened.

I really liked the way the romance wove into the action/suspense of the story. Ace and Kristi are both older and more mature, but after 20 years there is a lot they have to learn about each other and about building a relationship together. While trying to work out problems and difficulties with Ace now back in her life, Kristi suddenly finds herself the target of a faceless enemy. The suspense and danger are very real and believable, and build up the tensionIn the book really well.

Being able to see a couple other characters from the previous book was so fun and added more to this story. It was fun to see the bantering between Ace and Kade as well.

There are some other characters you get to see in passing, who I hope we get to read more about in the future. Another fantastic story by the talented Traci Hunter Abramson!!

After a couple of books I made myself a rule: Never start a Traci Hunter Abramson book close to bed time. I get sucked in completely and don't want to go to bed until I finish! I was worried that I wouldn't remember enough about the Guardian series to pick this one up, but it is written with enough background that beginners and series followers will enjoy the story.
Kristi is struggling to remain in control of the private island left to her. When Ace shows up 20 years after his "death" her life gets turned upside down. Explosions, kidnapping & attempted murder will keep the reader on the edge of their seat right up until the concluding pages. Definitely another winner from THA!

It’s always a great day when there’s a new Traci Hunter Abramson book to read. She is one of my very favorite authors. I just love her books! This new one is no exception.

Kristi is an amazing woman. She went through a lot when her boyfriend died 20 years earlier. Now she lives on her family’s island alone. I loved the way she was strong. Kristi had an awful lot going for her in her life. And she knew what to do in a sticky situation.

I loved seeing some characters from this authors previous novels, Kade, Renee and Ace have all made appearances before. It was really great to learn more about Ace and his life. And I loved the way he was with Kristi. Ace was her love who “died” before. That made things in the story really interesting.

There is tons of action and adventure in this one. I loved that the reader never knows just who is after Kristi or really even why. That all unfolds as she and Ace figure things out. It just makes it one of those books that you don’t want to read by yourself, late at night. And I love to be just a little scared when I know everything is really okay.

Make sure you grab this one and really all of the books by this author! I love them all!

Clean, Undercover Government series, stand alone read, but also light romance. PG-13 for some violence, including murder
Kristi's idyllic and quiet life off the coast of Maine and her past employment and loss of her boyfriend/almost fiance as a young woman, along with her skills as a financial analyst have left her satisfied, but lonely, although loving her independent life.
Ace, her long-lost (supposedly dead) boyfriend reappears in her life. The other operatives, the intel, the Guardian Network, the chases, tracking, and suspense from all that happens on Kristi's island is intense, riveting, and fun. Love all the tech stuff and the different events that lead up to the final (supposedly) chase scenes.
Fun, intense, riveting, and loved the mix of action and romance in with the intrigue and mystery surrounding the events that happen on the island and off. I think I enjoyed this best of all her books. More of a 4.5 for me as a reader.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. My opinions are my own, but obviously a fan of this author, so therein lies my bias! A great escape!

I always get so excited when I get to read a new Traci Hunter Abramson book. Her books are the kind that I wander around reading at all times during the day; say at the lunch table in my faculty lounge for example. They are always so hard to put down.

This new novel is part of The Guardian Series: Book #3. I know people will say that this book can be read without reading the other books, but I'm pretty particular about reading the books that come first. You always "see" former characters show up and I like to have a background on them.

Main characters Kristi and Ace were supposed to get married twenty years ago until Ace was killed in a car accident. Kristi is shocked when Ace shows up, alive and with an unbelievable story about his current occupation. The Guardians are a secret government organization that do super secret things. With bad guys wanting to steal Kristi's land and Ace and his colleagues having their own problems this causes the intense, non-stop action scenes in this novel. I loved that Kade and Renee from the last Guardian Novel, Safe House, play a big part in this novel too. I especially loved Kristi and Ace and how after twenty years they stepped right back into the comfort and ease of their former relationship. It still takes awhile to completely get together, but what a great ride along the way. I also truly loved Kristi's dog Samson.

Anyone that loves a great mystery/suspense will be hooked once you start reading this novel. The ups and downs of trying to figure out who is behind everything that's going on is more than half the fun of this book. I highly recommend Sanctuary and can say if you've never read Traci's books before, you've been missing out. This is one writer that knows what's she doing as she builds great plots, fabulous characters, and inserts twists and turns that will leave you reeling in your seat.

Ace Samson has been dead for twenty years and his former lover, Kristi Hartinger, still visits his grave. Then why does she see him walking towards her at the marina? Ace had to fake his death years ago and is now a member of the guardians. The guardians are a secret organization that operate beyond the realm of the F.B.I. or the CIA and handle protection for those in need. Ace is there to see Kristi and offer her a job with the organization as a trust manager…someone to handle the allocation of funds to the various “ghosts”. Kristi lives on her family’s island off the coast of Maine and someone has decided they are interested in her property, to build a resort, whether she wants to sell or not. When vandalism starts to escalate to attempted murder, Ace knows that he needs to be there to protect her. He has help from Kade and Renee (from the first book) as they investigate who is behind the attacks on Kristi and the island. The attraction between Ace and Kristi is still strong, but what can they do when Ace must remain a ghost? I thoroughly enjoyed this unique story and characters and look forward to reading the first book about Kade and Renee. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

This riveting romantic suspense had me on the edge of my seat. Kristi lost the love of her life 20 years ago, and has never really moved on from him. Single, and living alone on an island off Maine, she gets an offer of recruitment to be part of the top secret Guardian program for the government…and the man who makes her the offer is Ace Sampson, her “dead” boyfriend from the past. To stay alive, he had to become dead. As the two begin to work together, Ace is determined to make a new start, but Kristi is just as determined not to let her crush her heart again. But when mysterious threats start occurring on the island, Ace realizes if he wants a chance to ever win Kristi’s heart again, he has to keep her alive from some sinister plot or persons who want her dead. This is a fast page-turner. Read it in a couple days. It’s an intricate plot I won’t even begin to try to summarize, but there are lots of surprises and twists and mysteries throughout the book. The characters were well done. The setting on the lonely island is cool. I really enjoyed the nuances of this story. And the romantic plight of our hero and heroine is super good. Overall, a great read!

This book was good enough to pass the time of running. I think a better read by an editor could have helped with some holes in the storyline and overall errors.

1. Pretty sure there is no Target in Bar Harbor, Maine having been there 4 months ago.

2. As a currently practicing EMT please note that EMT’s, paramedics, nurses, and doctors do not refer to those they are treating as a “victim,” especially if they are alive. They are referred to as “patients.”

3. Also an air bubble in your IV line would cause a stroke not a heart attack.

4. The narrator fluctuated between an old civil war general’s Virginian accent, a southern belle, and no accent at all for one character. I’m not sure why the two lead characters from the exact same birth location in Maine would warrant one having a southern accent occasionally and the other not?

5. I would have appreciated more information about the case getting resolved and plans moving forward with the guardians. Instead of just the love and mush.

That all said I think the storyline has great potential and the characters are likable. Although the female lead was a bit helpless and bratty.

Books by Traci are ones that I will pre-order before I even read the back cover. I have loved everyone of her books and this was no exception. The first page sucks you in and you can't put it down. There are unexpected twists, beautiful scenery, a bit of romance and tension at every turn. It's amazing to think that there could be situations similar to this happening around us and we'd never know. It's interesting to imagine. I would highly recommend this book to any and everyone, especially those who love a fantastic suspense novel.

A quiet island in Maine, a ghost, danger and renewing an old friendship. Kristi lives on an island, that she inherited. from her grandfather, and is fighting to keep it. When Kristi is offered a new job from an unexpected dead boyfriend, things are never the same. I loved this story so much, I gobbled it up and now I'm sad that it had to end.

Another great suspense novel with romance and excitement from Traci Hunter Abramson--I love her books! Again she takes the most incredible situations and makes them absolutely credible. This book was hard to put down. The plot is fast-paced, but it doesn't come across as a writer's contrivance; it just goes along like a roller-coaster that you hope keeps going on forever--while you also hope it levels out and you can find out what happens when the ride is over. The creation of "the Guardians," who rescue U.S. agents and assets when it needs to be done covertly, is a great Abramson idea that can go on indefinitely, although I hope she doesn't abandon the Saint Squad. This book stands alone very well, but it is fun to start with Abramson's earliest novels and read all the way through to this one, because there's a deep background of information on the U.S. intelligence and military organizations that is fascinating to follow. Keep writing, sister!

This book was a mystery/adventure Labor day holiday long drive listen. This was the second I read from this author, and I liked that it was clean, built up to a suspenseful end, and turned out well. The audio book reader slipped in and out of a strange Maine accent, which was a little distracting.

I felt like it followed the exact formula of a prior book in the series, with "Ghost" meeting love interest, protecting her, they solve the mystery together, and end up as a couple.

I didn’t realize this was Book 3 in a series when I started reading, but I had no trouble following the storyline. It’s fast-paced, full of action, and kept me guessing until the end. I appreciated that it was a clean read with no unexpected content—something I always look for. The plot was compelling, though I didn’t particularly enjoy the writing style, which kept me from giving it five stars. I would have loved more depth in some of the characters and scenes, but overall, an engaging and enjoyable read.

I love Traci Hunter Abramson's insight look into the military! I cannot even imagine those who have given up their lives to become GHOSTS so they might continue to protect others.

And then there are those who fall in love with them and want to be with them-- only to have to keep their love a secret.

This book is a perfect blend of suspense and romance --
I highly recommend it!

Loved every minute! The internal struggle of making an impossible relationship work was very gripping. It was a page turner for sure.

Kristi gets to see her first love literally come back from the dead. Will she let ghost or ace back into her future? Will she have a future? Someone is trying to get rid of her to get to her island.

Sanctuary by Traci Hunter Abramson. Rating: 2.75 Stars.

Read from April 16 to April 19.

I was given an e-ARC of Sanctuary for review by Covenant Communications through NetGalley. I was originally drawn to the story because it takes place off the coast of Maine in the Fall (and the cover is beautiful as well). But then I was pulled in by the premise of an undercover operative showing back up in the life of an old girlfriend who mourned his death 20 years ago. I liked the idea of love lost and a second chance romance. The action also had a part to play in me requesting the novel. Sadly, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

At least part of my low rating for this one stems from the fact that this is the third book in a companion series and I went into it not knowing that. Although, it could be argued that since it IS a companion series that the ground work should be laid out in this one and I shouldn’t have to read the others to pick up on the background and set up. The characters have such a close and quick bond to each other despite the fact that there’s no build up or groundwork laid out ahead of time. Also, I had to wrap my mind around the Guardian program throughout the novel as it wasn’t explicitly explained at the beginning of the novel. (This is despite the fact that the main character is being brought in to do some work for them which would have been a great opportunity for it to be explained without being too much telling and not enough showing.) I think if I had gone into the novel having already read the first two books then I would have given it at least another half of a star.

There are two other things that drove me a little crazy as I was reading this. Firstly, the author has a side moment in the story where we meet someone who I assume is going to be a main character in the next novel. Which is all well and good except that everything is being laid out for the next book in the middle of this one. It really seemed to detract from the story since we spent a solid 50 or so pages meeting him and setting him up for the Guardian program. But the part that really annoyed me about that whole situation was that the author came so close to pulling it off. When we meet this other person it’s during a moment of crisis for our current main character who is still doubting her ability to be with one of the other main characters. And the moment of crisis and the lack of support from him just adds to her fears. I wish that the female main character had spent a little more time worried about that or angry at him for leaving her high and dry. It really would have made this chunk of the book make more sense. Secondly, the last 50 pages have to be mentioned as a section of the book that just does not work for me. I loved a lot of the action, but I would have swapped out about half of it for a better conclusion. The action just stops and then two chapters later the book is over which felt jarring. The action here felt never ending and the ending of the book came at me too fast.

But I adored the land the main character lives on and her whole life there. I loved seeing her in the day to day. Even when a little action happened here or there, it felt plausible. I could have read another solid 50 pages in the middle of the book of her day to day life with the members of the Guardians at her place. I also felt like the author did such a good job making this undercover agency seem possible. It definitely helped that the author has a background in the financial side of stuff like this. So there wasn’t a single moment where I questioned anything about the Guardians or their set up. It all seemed possible. Also, out of all the characters I really liked Kade and Renee’s dynamic the most. There’s this push and pull that works really well in their scenes and I liked that Kade sometimes got to be put in his place. I could read a whole book about just the two of them.

My suggestion is to read the first two books before you pick up this one so you don’t have the issue I did with diving right into the story. Also, this is really quick paced and easy to read since the chapters are so short so just give yourself a solid afternoon to read it.

SANCTUARY is a story full of suspense, friendship, undercover operatives, and a little romance. Those who have followed the Saint Squad series and the Guardians series up to this point will enjoy cameos from prior characters, and those new to these series will find a new author and series to become a fan of. Definitely recommended to romantic suspense fans in both the general market and those who enjoy inspirational romance!

I love when you have a few pages left of a book and you're disappointed for it to end. That means it's been a great read and this one was that for me. I loved how all the technical, undercover, spy stuff worked for me logically. I can get a little picky when it comes to spies and FBI/CIA etc. as characters. I expect them to have decent training and not to be too easily fooled. The villains in this story are apparent and also not. I had guessed, but wasn't a hundred percent sure who the culprits were and what would happen. I also appreciated that the good guys faced opposition that was difficult and acted upon some prior training (without giving too much away). This story had a constant feeling of suspense, and having worthy villains made for an exciting read all the way to the end.

I also can't love a book without loving the characters. This story also didn't disappoint here. I loved Ace and Kristi! They're smart, brave, strong, and have an emotional past to each other. I liked that this story built their relationship on that past and then grew it from there. It made things feel genuine. I also liked that the author let these characters run with their own doubts and emotions, which I felt were realistic under the situation. The romance didn't feel like it overtook the story, which I appreciated. It was sweet and just something that added to the story. I really loved Ace's and Kristi's relationship as well as seeing more of Renee and Kade. There was also a very minor inspirational element (literally maybe two sentences of the book), so those who read general romantic suspense or inspirational suspense won't have any issues here.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really loved this story from beginning to end. Romance, suspense, action, interesting and likable characters... what more could readers ask for? My favorite of the series so far. Definitely pick this one up!

Content: Some violence due to the situation, but clean.
