Rate this book

An ice dragon who will make you melt...

As a scientist, Talia Reed is used to things just making sense. So when a large sample of ice sent to her lab happens to be carrying a centuries-old Siberian man who claims to be the lord of winter, everything in her life is turned upside down. Alek's tall, handsome, protective... and totally shouldn't be alive. But somehow, even though he's the one who was frozen, she's the one who's beginning to warm up!

Alek, lord of winter, has huge gaps in his memory and no ability to access the ice dragon powers that made him a force to be feared. But he does know he always goes after what he wants with the force of a winter storm, and right now that's scientist Talia Reed, the tiny human woman who awakened him. His heart has been drawn to her from the moment they met, and he isn't going to let anything, past or present, stand in the way of claiming her for his own!

As Alek and Talia spend time together, things get steamy enough to melt snow. But Talia is torn about having feelings for a scientific sample, and Alek is trying to figure out the key to unlocking his powers to rule the modern world. And in the meantime, secrets are lurking beneath the ice of Alek's past, threatening to break through and destroy everything he holds dear...

Scientist, Talia was curious about the three huge containers her mentor sent to the lab while he was on an expedition. She couldn't resist checking one out. Three huge blocks of ice. When one block broke her surprise was a huge, gorgeous man. Even more surprising he was alive.

Alek saw the beautiful female. Too bad she was human. She seemed to think it was funny when he told her he was the Lord of Winter—whatever that meant as it seemed his memory was still frozen. After a time they decided he needed a place to stay and she needed to feed and get him some different clothes.

Alek seemed to ease from egotistical Lord to a delicious man Talia couldn't resist. They teach each other about life, want, love, and about the new world. When they go to check on the other ice blocks two more surprises await. Two friends of Alek's. They seem to know more about his past but are careful what they reveal. Meanwhile, Talia and Alek begin dating and testing out what watching television has taught him about the new world.

Will the past interfere with his present and his feelings for Talia? What are the powers he knows he has but can't get to work? What about the people who found the guys? So many questions when all he wants is to tell Talia what she is to him and be worthy of her.

I enjoyed the first book on the author's new series. I'm wondering what will happen with the two friends and Talia's roomy. I think there's gonna be some heat there. Thank you Terry Bolryder for the great World Building the steam among the icy guys and the emotional growth of our couple. Can't wait for more.

Steamy and Sweet Paranormal Time Travel Romance

Meet Alek, the lord of winter, the first of three handsome ice dragons from the centuries past. While suffering from amnesia he finds and falls in love with his human mate in the modern world. The love scenes are steamy and sweet, the love magical. There is also the usual villain and struggle in the end of the book.
This novel is your run-of-the-mill paranormal dragon shifter romance from Terry Bolryder, nothing really new about it but entertaining nonetheless.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

LORD OF WINTER is the first story in Terry Bolryder’s series Frozen Dragons – at this point, it shows no connection to her other dragon series — however, with dragons you just never know so we’ll wait and see what develops over the rest of the series.

This one has a slightly different feel to it for me since Alek, Luka and Dimitri have no idea how they’ve survived being encased in blocks of frozen solid ice… and yet have emerged from the ice quite well except for their memories perhaps. Our heroes are hundreds of years old, and they have absolutely no clue what this modern world is all about.

When we first meet Alek he is every bit as arrogant, conceited and full of himself as one would expect the “Lord of Winter” to be. He softens as he must learn about this new world he’s found himself in — and as he gets to know and care for Talia. It didn’t take long for a softer, kinder Alek to emerge, and I liked that man very much. Talia is between a rock and a hard place. The most astounding discovery came to life in front of her eyes, but this man also has feelings, desires, and rights. As much as her mentor might believe that he’s nothing more than a specimen bound for the secret labs and the talk circuits the reality is that he and his friends are living breathing beings who deserve so much more than to be oddities for the remainder of their lives.

My heart broke for Alek when his memory returned and he remembered exactly how he and his companions became encased in ice. Just. Simply. Broke.

LORD OF WINTER is full of richly drawn characters, an intriguing plot, definitely steamy sexy times. and a group of people that you’ll want to get to know more about. Alek and Talia worked so well together, realist and believable… for their circumstances. I enjoyed their story very much and can’t wait to get started on the next book. If you love Shifter Romance then you’ll love the start of this new series – I’d definitely recommend this one.

This is a good start to a new dragon shifter series, but I was surprised to find that these dragons really aren't connected to any of the dragons from Terry's other dragon shifter series. I'm assuming they will meet some of the other dragons, and also the oracle, at some point in the series -- but it didn't happen in this book.

This is an OK romance, but Alek was pretty hard to like in the beginning. He was just so arrogant, and looked at everyone as if they were beneath him. He got a lot better as the story went on, but I still had a hard time warming up to him. Talia was likable, but it bothered me that they both seemed more in lust than in love.

I agree with another reviewer that the bad guy was brought into the story much too late, and was just too easy to deal with. I suppose he may be back in a later book, because someone like him wouldn't have given up on using Alek so easily. He wanted to be famous after all, and Alek gave him that opportunity -- it didn't matter to him that Alek would be hurt in the process.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Terry Bolryder pulls us back to her world of dragons with the shy, sweet human Talia Reed and the sexy, pretentious dragon Alek. With sensual scenes and characters of great depth I couldn't put this book down!

Talia is a human scientist/graduate student. Her boss/mentor sent her three giant blocks of ice and says she can test a small sample of the ice. What she doesn't expect her results to show is Alek, a giant of a man, bursting from one of the ice blocks, calling himself the Lord of Winter. Shortly after taking him in, she discovers he doesn't remember much about himself. She also takes in his two friends who were frozen with him. Talia helps Alek and his friends assimilate to a new world and way of life. Though Alek comes off as arrogant she discovers a different side to him.
"He defended her to anyone who threatened her, acted as if they somehow didn't look odd together, and when he wasn't talking to her as if she were some kind of peasant, he could be really...kind."

Alek is a frozen dragon, literally! When he awakens, with his friends, after hundreds of year of being frozen in ice he is not sure who he really is or why he doesn't have access to his dragon powers. With Talia's help he adjusts to the modern world and helps him unlock the memories of who he is. The more time he spends with Talia the more he finds himself wishing for something he is not sure he can have.
"But how could she possibly be with someone who didn't know who they were? How could he be true to himself if he didn't even know who that was?"

Talia and Alek second guess themselves at every turn. They both must find the courage that is within if they hope to be together.

OMG!!!! Another phenomenal new dragon series from Terry Bolryder. This series is suspenseful, action packed and filled with great characters unknowingly looking for love.

Lord of Winter, book 1 of Terry’s new Frozen Dragons series, is a great beginning to a new series.

Scientist, Talia Reed, makes the discovery of a lifetime while taking samples from a large ice block that was brought into the lab from Siberia. A centuries old, tall and handsome man! Alek, the lord of winter, awakes in a new world, with little memory of his past and no access to his ice dragon powers. Together they embark on a journey of self discovery and love. But when danger comes, will Talia and Alek be able to save each and find happiness? Find out.

I loved reading Lord of Winter, it’s a suspenseful and exciting love story with secrets to uncover and challenges to overcome. It’s a great first for the series, and focuses on accepting the past and making knew beginnings. I am looking forward to reading Luka and Dmitri’s stories. I wonder if the Frozen Dragons will get the chance to meet the dragons from Terry’s previous series? I can’t wait to find out.

Another great book from Terry Bolryder!

Note: I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I'll start out this review by stating I've read I think all of Terry Bolryder's books. So adding a new one (new series) already had be excited.

That being said, I will avoid spoilers (cause who likes those?) and say that it holds up with all the rest. Lord of Winter brings us a new beginning and a new take on Shifters. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes as I can see a lot of great stories to come.
The characters are good and I found it easy to see how they develop not to mention that the relationships that begin to form aren't weird leaving you wondering HOW it all happened - no, it makes sense and you see it as it happens. It's what I enjoy about Terry Bolryder's books. I can read them, the flow is effortless and you always end up with a great story.

If you've read previous books by this author and enjoyed them, this series is perfect for you. If you're a fan of paranormal romance (especially shifters) without a doubt I'd recommend picking this book up (and eventually the series). This book can be read without knowing nay of the previous series that have been released while they do take place in that world, you aren't ruined anything by reading this series first.

TB is one of my favorites, I never pass up a new release, so the question is... How did I miss 2 book releases? I love this dragon series ALL the way from the start with "Awakened Dragons" to the spin-offs. I have had the pleasure of reading them in order of release.
This book started out great and went to wonderful within one paragraph. With the other BOOKS in the series, the plot is the same, dragons wake up in our time, missed placed and having to find their mates. The Oracle takes place in their replacement, she is not in this book not even thought of. The dragon of winter, Alek, and two of his followers wake up in a world, not like, their own. When Talia takes them home she finds out that she has found not just the greatest discovery of her life but the man of her dreams.
I recommend this book ( and any book ) to anyone that likes dragon shifter romance. This is written for readers 18 and over.

More dragons, yes❣️

Talia is a scientist and when she receives a weird message from her mentor that he’s sent samples from Siberia, she’s eager to learn more, but uncovers a lot more than she bargained for! The most beautiful man she’s ever encountered stands before her in her lab announcing himself as the Lord of Winter ❄️

Alek wakes up to a woman in a weird environment and not his era. He tells her who he is, but can’t help feel he lacks his memories and how he ended up encased in ice. As the mystery unravels, Alek and Talia develop more than just subject vs scientist feelings and this makes things complicated when Talia’s mentor arrives back.

Loved this first instalment of the Frozen Dragons series and want to thank Terry for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review 😍

I usually have a soft spot for bears, but Terry Bolryder’s Dragons are something I read once I get them and usually read the book right through. It wasn’t any different with the start of this new series. The Lord of Winter, Alek, has been caught in ice for hundreds of years and is awaken by a scientist, Talia, in modern day. Sure - he has to learn that you can’t just take over territory and fly around as a dragon, but dragons tend to learn quickly. Talia wasn’t expecting the kind of specimen that was standing in front of her in her lab. Usually being around scientists, that get suspicious fast when things don’t fit into the world that they know, can be nothing less than trouble for a shifter that doesn’t want his double-identity to be known. This story takes the worse-case scenario for an awaken shifter and turns it into a great story that is fun to read and always leaves me giggling.

A fascinating look at frozen dragons!
I’m thrilled with the prospect of this new series. Transported in glacial ice from another era, three men consider how to proceed. Talia is a lucky woman, to have discovered this delectable trio. She’s brave enough to act on her attraction to this unusual male, Alek. it’s an intricate dance as they discover more about each other. Meanwhile, Alek has revealing memories to recover before there can be forward movement. I love watching his attitude change from his original, imperious behavior to one that shows care about the people around him. As for his relationship with Talia, this sums it up: “He suddenly didn’t care about being lord of winter as long as he was lord of her heart.”
And, of course, there’s cold, calculating, Dr Henrick to deal with. Excellent story! I’m ready for more ice dragons!

Terry Bolryder is starting another wonderful new series again we will have hunky dragons just looking for the woman who will complete them once again she has written a book whose characters draw you in and as always the book flows smoothly in fact so smoothly that you will be shocked when you turn that last page

Talia a scientist is enthralled with the ice blocks that seem to contain something that her mentor has sent from Siberia. When she tries to take samples her life will change forever Who would expect a hunk like Alec to appear from the ice, Why does he have no memory of his past what is his mind trying to protect him from and who are the two hunks with him. Will Dmetri and Luke tell him of his past or will it take danger to his mate to make all his history flash before his eyes. You will need to read to see what Alec's secret is

Lord of Winter great beginning!

Lord of Winter (Frozen Dragons) by Terry Bolryder is a great start to a new series of dragon books. Alek, Dmitri and Luka are great guys and imagine being frozen for hundreds of years and being awakened in a science lab. Alek will grow on you although he is pretty much a jerk when first awakened but whst can you expect from the Lord of Winter. Talia is your typical scientist but has a soft heart. She cannot accept any of the guys becoming science experiments. She is perfect for Alek because she sees him as he is not what she thinks he should be. Bolryder entices her readers with great character development and a strong storyline. Her books always have a happy ending and you fall in love with her characters. It was great how Alek and Talia had each others backs and became more rounded happy because of it. Don't miss this book.

*CAUTION* best for adult readers due to sexual content.
Talia is a scientist who is working with her own specimens while her mentor, Dr. Henrick, is on a trip to Siberia. Dr. Henrick sends Talia a message telling her to take only small samples of the new specimens he just sent and only if needed. When Talia goes to the freezer, she gets quite a surprize.
I like the development of Alek throughout this book, his character goes through a pretty drastic change. The story is easy to read because it's interesting with interesting characters. I like that Bolryder puts a slight but if realism in there, I'm sure if something this actually happened it would go about the same way (minus the love part). I think this is a great start to another wonderful series by Ms. Bolryder.

Iceman/dragon meets modern day scientist

Talia is a scientist that studies cells that are hidden within the ice. When her mentor sends three huge squares of ice from Siberia she thinks it is amazing. When a man breaks out of one of the ice blocks, she s stunned.
Alek doesn't remember how he got in the ice or anything about his past except that he is a dragon and he is the Lord of winter, whatever that means.
This is the first book in a new series. It is an enticing read and I want to know more. I wonder if these dragons will eventually get introduced to the dragons in this author's other books.
I wonder what is coming up for his friends Dimitri and Luka. I am excited to find out.

I've slogged thru Bolryder's books for a while. Inexpensive & quick reads. Not very much substance.
I think, Bolryder's hit a new low with these. Grammar was bad. Editing was worse. Writing...regressive. I stopped at the end of Chpt. 2. Angry, that I went ahead & purchased Bks 2 & 3. I'm usually not that stupid. But that's on me.

I'm pretty lax in reviewing these kinds of books. They aren't meant to challenge the reader. I don't expect to expend many brain cells. Still, we're tipping into no literary value territory. So, if I DNF, it's bad. Author on probation w/me. I expect to see some development, not the same-old/same-old canned plotlines. "oh, baby, do-me, do-me" crap.

Another bad read & the author goes permanently onto my Do Not Buy.
It's really, that bad.

Icy Nice

I was so excited to see that Terry had a new dragon shifter series and could'nt wait to read it. This book is the story of Alek and Talia. Alek is a dragon shifter who was frozen hundreds of years ago and wakes up in modern day America with very few memories. Not to mention he is in lab eith a human female staring at him. The story is both funny and sweet, an easy read for a cold winter afternoon. I am looking forward to seeing if Alek's vousin Luka ends up with Talia's roommate and if the professor causes problems later. Heck, maybe a dragon from one of the other series will drop in!

I was a bit disappointed with this newest offering. It could have been much more. I felt that this dragon, who had been frozen for hundreds of years, became acclimated to modern society much too readily. Things like TV and microwaves held some passing curiosity, while the automobile really had none. The story could have been fleshed out more, and the ending was very abrupt. I wanted more. The Awakened Dragon series (the gems, emerald, ruby, etc.) had a lot of action and very intriguing characters. I was expecting that level of excellence, but did not get it here. This first book was mildly entertaining--an OK read.

Great start to a new series!

When Alek wakes up from the frost, he is an arrogant Lord of Winter, in his mind. I loved watching him grow more likable. The character development in this story is wonderful. It drives the whole thing. Talia is just the right person to teach him about this new world. She is a geeky scientist who discovers him, and then takes him home! Going back to the lab the next day, she finds that 2 more men have come out from the ice! Things escalate from there. This is a fast paced story with a character oriented storyline, some steamy scenes and vivid characters. I enjoyed this story immensely. Enjoy!

While I liked this story and really loved Terry's other dragons, I guess I missed the excitement that the other stories had. There is really no antagonist in this story, it's just Alek not full remembering his past and adjusting to a new time (he and his friends have been frozen for hundreds of years). Talia is just trying to figure out how he survived in the ice for so long. So, no Oracle or guest appearances. No big bad to add some drama, just a pretty straight forward romance. No snarky comments (Aegis the Emerald Dragon is still the BEST!), no real danger requiring draconian assistance. Overall, it's a good read but I feel that all of the other dragons are way better

A Man out Time and Place

Alek knows he's the Lord of Winter. He just doesn't remember much more than that. This is a wondrous tale of science vs. magic. When an ice dragon shifter emerges from the past and a modern, bright woman scientist, Talia, must take a leap of faith to accept Alek in all his glory. Their escapades along the way are entertaining, touching and genuine. The addition of Alek's friend's, Dmitri and Luka who are stalwart and loyal is heartening and that Talia also has two loyal and helpful friends is telling. I enjoyed the style of this book and look forward to more of the series.

A Frozen Dragon from the past finds himself and a mate in the future...

Alek is the Lord of Winter also a dragon who was frozen in the past, now brought back the life in the future. Though he has no memories of his past or of his powers, he is coming to terms of living in his new world with the help of Talia and his protectors also from the past. Talia is a scientist who accidentally unfroze Alek and his friends in her lab, but now that she has gotten to know him, can she save him from her mentor Dr. Henrick and his ambitions or will Alek save her?

Great book I can't wait to read the other two.

Good book

Another good book from this author, the first in the Frozen Dragon series. There blocks of ice have been shipped from Siberia by Dr Hendrik Talia's mentor there is something strange about them and eventually one bursts open to reveal a mystical man who has been frozen for at least a century. Talia is a research graduate and is fascinated by this gorgeous man that has appeared and before long two more break out of their ice capsules. There is plenty happening in this book as the men have to adjust to this world and Alek discovers the truth about himself and Talia discovers he is a Dragon and these two fall deeply in love. Great start to a new series.

Three Blocks of Ice...

from Siberia arrive at the lab. Talia is shocked when one of the ice blocks explodes. When the debris settles, the most gorgeous man Talia has ever seen is standing where moments before a huge block of Ice had stood. Alek, the self proclaimed dragon Lord of Winter, has awakened as has his two companions, Luka and Dmitri. I loved the characters and the storyline. The feelings between Alek and Talia are sexy, intense and protective. When Talia's mentor, Dr. Henrick, returns from Siberia, both Alek and Talia find themselves in danger. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Lord Of Winter

Ms. Bolryder came up with a new (to me 🥶) plot of dragons in the 21st century. Imagine going to her lab with Dr Hendricks to pluck a few samples from the three blocks of Alek, and his two partners in crime (Luka & Demitri) when out comes Alek. Everyone else would have either fainted or ran off screaming. I personally don’t write a review for every single book I read but this series deserves 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for plot originality, for very descriptive wording or phrasing and for having a smart beautiful heroine 🦸🏼‍♀️ while still allowing this dragon 🐉 alpha to be the smart charming alpha hero we all know and love.

Alec was meant to rule, just as his father wanted. He controlled winter, after all.

Alec was raised to be a ruler. His father was a king. He was raised as someone special. As he was growing up, his only people around him; his two advisers.
Alec woke up from a deep darkness, to find himself in front of a beautiful female. In a strange room with tables and weird metal objects around him. He was awake! Why, what happened? Whenever be tried to recall, a intense pressure in his head occurred. Finding out where be was was paramount. This woman near him seemed scared and shocked. Very curious.

Talia loves her work seeing what is in the ice from Glaciers and know her boss had sent her an extra large piece to test. When trying to take a small chunk to test it but it cracked and a man was just standing there. Alek didn't know where he was but it was very strange with just a woman looking at his really funny like. This story is a little different than the other Dragon stories Terry has wrote but still has a great story line with romance, action that will intrigue you and keep you turning the pages.

Dragons

Was looking for something to read and came across this book and decided to give it a try. Not my normal go to but im glad I did. It was a really good story. Dragon meets scientist! The characters were a little too accepting of each other at first but i guess being a scientist goes above and beyond belief. The characters are very loveable. The story ended too soon for me. Which is a good thing. It means I am looking forward to the next book! A new author to add to my collection.
