Is this their once-in-a-lifetime chance at happiness? Or will it cost them everything? Beautiful, wealthy Amelia Smith had a life to envy… Old-money father. Notorious brothel-owning mother. Then her life fell apart… Now, her only hope is Ben Abbott. Only wild, untamed Ben is no average Pinkerton agent. Soon, hearts collide… Setting their two worlds against each other. And when a stranger arrives, who claims to be Amelia’s long-lost relative… The question is asked… With the whole world against them… can they survive? Or will they sacrifice it all?
The switched around to much for me.. sometimes it felt like I skipped pages. I had to back pages several times just to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped a page or pages.
It was clean at least but I cringed at the modern style of writing. It felt horribly inappropriate for the time. In addition the characterization was iffy.
I do not like an author who uses modern language choices in an historical setting. The improper use of the current “Ms” instead of the proper “Miss” is ridiculous. Using a current politically correct pronoun in a story changes the settings.
After graduating from finishing school in Switzerland, Amelia returns to Boston. She finds her parents were killed in a carriage accident. Now a wealthy orphan, her fathers will stated for her to go to California, get married and take over a gold mine.
Not what I expected the cover is misleading while it screams current times the book actually takes place in the 1800's It was an easy read but just not my cup of tea.
A Perfect Forever (Leap of Love #1) By: Paige Powers 4/5 stars
Amelia Smith grew up in the lap of luxury in Boston. Her father not only came from old money, but was also a wealthy businessman in his own right. Her mother is also a successful business woman, in that she owns and runs a brothel. When Amelia was sent to boarding school in Switzerland, she thought that her parents no longer loved her. But by the time she graduated, she was grateful for the opportunity and all that she learned, not only educational but about herself as well.
Ben Abbott grew up as the youngest child of 10 to farmers in South Carolina. There wasn’t any extra money and all the kids had to work on the farm to make a go of it. But Ben knew that the farm life wasn’t for him and decided to become a Pinkerton detective. His first job is for a man claiming to be a relative of Amelia Smith’s and so he goes to find her. What he wasn’t expecting was to become enamored with the beautiful and kind woman.
But Ben doesn’t know if Amelia would accept any type of friendship or courtship with him because he was responsible for bringing a man into her life who wanted to claim some of her inheritance for himself. Further he doesn’t know if it would be acceptable for him to start a relationship because of the prior business dealings. To top it all off, Amelia also has a suitor of her own, even if they don’t seem to be well suited to each other.
Starting with the cover it is very misleading about the book, I was surprised to realise while reading the story actually takes place a century ago. I did not enjoy the story, it felt light and too light, no depth in the dialogues, the characters didn't seem real and the whole story-too short and very unreal.
The cover page does not match the characters at all. Good storyline even though a little choppy in one place; seems like it was smooth reading then all of a sudden you were on a different path.
