For more than a decade, Clan Skyhunter suffered under a cruel, power-hungry leader who did anything to advance his agenda. He was finally caught in an illegal scandal and sent to prison, and now the dragon-shifter clan in the south of England is ready for a new leader. And so the trials begin…
Asher King had been locked away under the former clan leader for speaking out against his cruelty. Now free, he wants to win the leadership and lead his clan to a better future. However, being the nephew of the old leader isn't easy, and if that wasn't enough to overcome, he's still recovering from the torture he endured while imprisoned. Still, he's determined to win and keep his clan from being disbanded by the humans, even if it means competing against his old teenage girlfriend and denying how much he still wants her.
Newly returned from her stay in America, Honoria Wakeham puts herself up as a candidate to be clan leader. Not everyone approves of a female candidate, but that doesn't faze her. The old clan leader killed her parents and in order to fully heal, she wants to bring the clan together and implement her plans to bring them into the twenty-first century. What she didn't count on was running into Asher King, the male she loved over a decade ago, before she'd been sent to stay with relatives in America for her safety.
It doesn't take long for Asher and Honoria to give in to their attraction, but from it springs an idea that may be the best of all. Can they win the leadership trials and keep their clan together? Or, will one of the other candidates win and try to keep Skyhunter in the past?
NOTE: Full-length story with a happy ending. While can be read as a standalone, cameos by characters from Stonefire Dragons and Lochguard Highland Dragons mean those who've read the other series will find it more enjoyable.
Jessie Donovan has sold over half a million books, has given away hundreds of thousands more to readers for free, and has even hit the NY Times and USA Today bestseller lists. She is best known for her dragon-shifter series, but also writes about magic users, aliens, and even has a crazy romantic comedy series set in Scotland. When not reading a book, attempting to tame her yard, or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, she can often be found interacting with her readers on Facebook. She lives near Seattle, where, yes, it rains a lot but it also makes everything green.
Nice enough! I liked how Honoria was not a whining female, but one that took her life and her ambition in her hands and did everything to convince Asher and everybody else that she's as capable as any male!
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I will eventually collect all of Jessie’s books when I can.
The cover is another amazing one! I really love all the dragon covers!
This is the first book in a spin-off series called Stonefire Dragons Universe. Obviously, it is in the fabulous dragon world we all know and love, and if you don’t know it yet…you should get to know it! It is for adults only due to the steamy content with the randy dragons. Though not required, you will love this more if you have read all the dragon books because they you know all their stories and the humor that comes with them and because they just rock!
Jessie is a fabulous story teller and her dragons are my favorites. I love that we are getting more dragon clans to read and learn about. In this story, it is Skyhunter Clan that we learn about, and they are currently going through the trials for a new leader after their last horrible leader. I was pulled into Asher and Ria’s story from the start, and I loved every second reading it. Asher and Ria have a great relationship where they both can be themselves which is sometimes being in charge and dominant and sometimes being ordered about. They are both very honorable and want what is best for their clan and for it to be a home again.
I highly recommend to any dragon shifter fan because Jessie is the queen of amazing dragon shifter stories! I recommend reading them all! No one tells a story like Jessie does!
DONOVAN HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!! Title: Winning Skyhunter Series: Stonefire Dragons Universe Author: Jessie Donovan Designation: Book 1 of Series, Novella(50,000 words-Ebook Edition: Approximately 140 pages), Can Be Read As Standalone, No Cliffhanger, HEA #paranormalromance #fantasy #dragonshifters #newseries My Rating: Five Fabulously Entertaining Stars*****
Wow! Jessie Donovan has done it again! And just what has she done, you ask? She's completely captured my heart - AGAIN - with Winning Skyhunter, the first release in her new Stonefire Dragons Universe Series. And be still my heart, it's absolutely spellbinding! I adore fantasy, love paranormal romance, and totally enamored with dragon shifters, but give me all three in one great story, and I'm in heaven! Jessie Donovan excels at delivering the perfect trifecta and Winning Skyhunter is no exception! I became addicted to her work five years ago after reading and falling in love with a book entitled Convincing the Cougar by a then little-known author named Jessie Donovan. It was about the alpha of a cougar-shifter clan who'd given up on life, love, and himself because of a physical impairment caused by an injury received while protecting several cubs, one so severe he never healed properly. The story was so moving and well written, and I'd really never read anything like it, before or since. To say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. I fell in love with Donovan's comfortable, no-nonsense, easy-to-follow style but it was her extraordinary world building, unique storylines, and in-depth character development that completely captured my heart along with my imagination. I wanted more, so I raced back to Amazon and discovered another book in the same series as well as another series, Asylums for Magical Threats, which I also read and liked. And then, the magic happened! Several months later, Donovan released her first dragon-shifter story, Sacrificed to the Dragon, and the rest, as they say, was history. I was hooked and became a fan for life! Donovan's dragon-shifter world is completely unlike anything I've ever encountered. In my humble opinion, Donovan pens some of the most creative, original, and imaginative paranormal romance I've ever read, and I've been reading over 65 years, so that's quite a statement. And just when I think Donovan couldn't possibly surprise me again, she delivers an unexpected left hook and blindsides me with another completely unique storyarc that blows everything else out of the water! This book is completely different than anything she's written to date, and I loved it! Now, let me tell you why!
Winning Skyhunter is an exciting, fast-paced, well-crafted, highly-imaginative paranormal tale filled to the brim with danger, drama, angst, suspense, passion, and heartwarming romance. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives given by the two protagonists, dragon-shifters Asher King and Honoria Wakeham. I have no idea how Donovan does it, but I always fall head over heels in love with Donovan's stubborn, grouchy, domineering heroes and become completely captivated by her headstrong, intelligent heroines, and Asher and Ria are certainly no exception. As Donovan effortlessly peels away their layers, we discover Asher and Ria to be remarkably complex, multi-layered characters with complicated histories who find themselves in an unusually difficult situation, and for very valid reasons. Both are determined, courageous, independent, intelligent, self-reliant, stubborn, strong-willed, selfless, and truly kind, but with extremely dominant personalities, yet surprisingly their pairing worked. Their verbal and physical sparring is beyond entertaining. Their interaction is electric, their banter hilarious, their attraction undeniable, their passion explosive, and their sexual chemistry is so hot it sizzled. The conversations these dragon shifters have in their heads with their dragons is outrageously funny. Interestingly, the dragon personas of Donovan's dragon-shifters are not just a minor part of her stories but are separate entities with their own characteristics, voices, and opinions, and are just as integral to the plot and storyline as their human counterparts. They take on a life of their own, actually giving us two characters rather than one. I've never encountered another author who gives so much voice to the animal alter of each character. It's one of the things I love most about Donovan's stories and has never been more evident than in this storyline. Which brings me to my favorite component of every Donovan story...the large cast of characters. They are unique, refreshing, engaging, endearing and at times, laugh-out-loud funny. Donovan is an exceptionally gifted storyteller who excels at creating unique, imaginative worlds and populating them with captivating characters who literally explode from the pages, grab your attention, engage your imagination, and completely capture your heart. You can mention any character's name from any of Donovan's dragon series to a fellow fan, and they will immediately be able to tell you who they are, what clan they belong to, whether they have a mate and if so, their name, occupation, and if they have children. These characters have become family, which brings me to another thing I truly enjoy about Donovan's work. The worlds of her series are interconnected and the characters regularly overlap so it's not unusual to see characters from other clans making an appearance in each story. And recently, Donovan has also introduced characters from several clans in the England, Scotland, Ireland, Europe, Italy, Wales, and America. I always love seeing many of my favorite characters from previous books in New stories, but Donovan also constantly treats us to intriguing new characters, always preparing readers for new books. It's just bloody brilliant!
No spoilers from me but I will say this... A handsome, growly, scarred dragon-shifter, traumatized by five years of imprisonment, torture, and forced drug use, but determined to help his family, save his clan, win the leadership trials, and work hard to undo the horrors and ill will caused by his uncle, the former clan leader-check! A beautiful dragon-shifter, tired of being limited because she's a female, returns home after a 15 year absence determined to win the leadership challenge and become leader of her clan-check! A partnership of convenience between former teenage sweethearts that could become so much more-check! A dragon-shifter clan struggling to survive after a decades-old reign of corruption and terror-check! A realization that betrayal can come in many forms-check! A malevolent enemy from within who endangers the welfare of the entire clan-check! Danger, drama, angst, an unexpected conflict, several surprising allies and despite the situation, a whole lot of cheeky humor-check! Undeniable attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, and a heartwarming happy ending-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Will Asher and Ria find a way to work together, win the leadership trials, save Skyhunter, and lead their clan into a prosperous future for all? We'll see, and in this case, maybe two stubborn, independent, domineering heads are really better than one! Sometimes, the hardest battle of all is not with others but with ourselves!
Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! It gave me all the elements I enjoy most in a great book including danger, drama, adventure, suspense, explosive passion, romance, and a very unusual storyline. Without a doubt, Winning Skyhunter is some of Donovan's best work to date and I can hardly wait to see what she writes next. I really don't know how she'll top this story , though she always does! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am, but only for adult readers since it does contain some very cheeky dragon-shifters with very, randy dragons, a little naughty language, and some steamy, dreamy love scenes. This a 50,000 word complete story (with no cliffhanger) and can be read as a standalone, but I'm old school and classify anything under 60,000 words as a novella. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Jessie Donovan’s Stonefire Dragon Universe is a little different. In this series, Jessie gives us plenty of Romance with Alpha Males dancing around Alpha Females never fear! But here, she cracks open the background curtain a bit on Dragon History as well.
Asher King was from a family the goes way back in Clan Skyhunter history. His branch of the family was one from Skyhunter Royalty you might say. But as he stands before the door at the main security building, all he feels is flashbacks and dread. You see he’s having a discussion of sorts in his head with his dragon, going over the pros and cons of why he is there- realistically he wants to be anywhere BUT here. Am I ready he asks? Asher stands for one thing and one thing only, redemption. The deposed Skyhunter Clan leader had used Asher as a whipping boy and token. Go against me and this is what you will get! Asher had been tortured, beaten down, drugged to keep him subdued. But you see Asher is a Survivor. He stands.
Honoria Wakeham was home, finally. Her parents had sent her to family in the US just as the destruction was beginning at Clan Skyhunter. She escaped, but her parents, did not. Honoria and Asher see each other across the room. Recognition is instant. Why is she here? his thoughts stray. No, I can’t think of that. Not Now. Asher and Honoria were at Clan Skyhunter for one thing only. Someone needed to rebuild this tortured, fractured, clan. And each thought they could do it!
The story centers on the clan leader trials, as Honoria and Asher try hard not to recognize their attraction. Stonefire and Lochguard both send their leadership and others to try to help this struggling clan get back on its feet. Bram and Finn play roles as only they can. (A note here, if you’ve not read any other of Jessie Donovan’s Dragon books, this is not really the best one to start with, This series is a continuation of her Stonefire and Lochguard books.) Deceit, mistrust and misdirection plague the trials as the DDA tries to sort out who is responsible for almost getting many killed and the leader trials shut down. While all this is going on, Honoria and Asher are growing closer. It becomes apparent they work well together so why not go through the trials-as a team!
Now I am not going to tell you the story so don’t ask! The temperature of this book is somewhere between sizzling and a flash fire with a few chuckles thrown in for good measure. So… get the book, pull up a comfy seat, a drink and settle down for a good read. Oh, don’t forget the Do Not Disturb Sign!! You will need it!
I was given an ARC to read, but the review is my own.
For more than a decade, Clan Skyhunter suffered under a cruel, power-hungry leader who did anything to advance his agenda. He was finally caught in an illegal scandal and sent to prison, and now the dragon-shifter clan in the south of England is ready for a new leader. And so the trials begin…

Skyhunter!!!!!!! New clan ,new book ,new series! I am in book Heaven!!!! Asher was put to prison because he spoke his mind and was thrown to jail and was tortured. Honoria was made to flee her clan in order to be safe. Now after many years they are both here to win. They both want to be clan leaders... But the past catches up to them and what is better than One clan leader? 2 Clan leaders! They will run together to win the leadership but is it the only thing they will win?
I loved Asher and Honoria! I love every new book of Jessies. She has done it again and she has given us an amazing action packed book with growly male shifters and growly shifter women that make it worth reading!
Jessie’s dragon shifter series just gets better and better - I loved this book! In Winning Skyhunter, we meet the dragon shifter clan in southern UK that has only briefly been mentioned so far in the series. Skyhunter clan has had a tumultuous past, as their last leader ruled with a cruel and iron fist. He has recently been removed and imprisoned, however, and the clan needs to select a new clan leader - one that will be up to the task of rebuilding Skyhunter’s clan, regaining the trust of the families who remained, perhaps draw back the many families that fled during the long, difficult years, and work on developing trust with the other UK shifter clans as well as the nearby human population. Winning Skyhunter is about Skyhunter’s leader competition and the events that immediately follow it.
Jessie’s dragon shifter novels read quickly, and keep my attention. In Winning Skyhunter, Asher/MMC and Honoria/FMC are two competitors that compete in the leadership challenge. I was immediately drawn into the action of the competition. I cared about the characters, I could imagine the setting, and the story seemed alive. IMO Jessie describes the shifting of the humans into dragons so well, that it is seems entirely believable and I feel I am there. The tone in Skyhunter is light, rather than dark or angst-filled, hopeful with a HEA. Normally, I don’t care much for Epilogues, but in this case, Jessie used it to provide a more complete ending, which I appreciated.
The suggested reading order for Jessie’s dragon shifter novels is posted inside nearly all her latest titles. Bookseriesinorder. com has the info as well, under Jessie Donovan’s name. Winning Skyhunter can be read as a standalone, but I would highly recommend the entire series (2 series actually, that weaved together) for those who enjoy Skyhunter. They are each fun, read quickly and are separate pieces of Jessie’s dragon shifter world.
Please Note - Winning Skyhunter includes “Steamy/Hot” level intimacy scenes between the 2 main characters - a committed couple - and there is occasional & brief profanity, as well. IMO the shifter-world Jessie has created and continues in Winning Skyhunter is a fantastic world to visit, but readers who prefer strictly Clean novels should probably look elsewhere.
*Sigh* Unfortunately Jessie has completely missed the mark with this one. I was really looking forward to getting my hands on this because I wanted to have a look into Clan Skyhunter after all the controversy and now I wished I hadn't. The storyline was poor, the book as a whole was poorly thought out, the timeline sucked, the characters were atrocious and the size of the book was way to short for what information was needed.
Honoria's character was not empowering to women, she was selfish, entitled, bitchy & bullied her way through and when that did not work she used sexual flirtations. She was one of the worst characters written to date. I do not know what Jessie thinks a female leader is suppose to be, but this is the second time she has written about a female leader and completely made them horrible, Teagan O'Shea was the first. Her dragon was positively the WORST dragon written in the whole series, she was totally unhelpful, all she talked about was sex, sex and more sex and then dominating Asher, that was it. Even Teagan's dragon was better because she at least contributed to leading.
Asher's character, while not as bad but bloody close, was horrible. He was no leader in this book. He was a man that got lead around by his dick, never doing anything on his own, always giving in to Honoria and her dragon. He was absolutely pathetic and weak, it was so bad it was painful to even read.
Everything that could have made this book interesting was glossed over and done with in like two pages. Asher was tortured for five year, oh it was bad and I have nightmares, but moving on, like WHAT THE HELL! The leadership trial, went for a couple pages and then the end. This whole book was half assed and stupid. It was just all about a woman dominating a man and being in a position of power, with a whole lot of sex thrown in.
I truly loathed this book and while normally I would write what happens in a book, what I have written above IS what happened and not much else. I highly recommend people NOT read this trash, skip it. I am going to pretend it does not exist because most of the other books in this series are great and I am not going to let this rubbish ruin it.
Winning Skyhunter The old Clan Leader of Skyhunter, Malcolm King is gone. He was not a good and fair leader. He imprisoned those that spoke out against him. He was a cruel man that drugged the dragon shifters preventing them from talking to their dragons. Some became insane or perished. Asher King, his nephew was imprisoned for standing up to his Uncle and attempting to contact the DDA(Department of Dragon Affairs). For five long tortuous years he and his dragon could not communicate. Months after his release and reuniting with his dragon he is working through therapy. There are to be Dragon Trials to determine the new Clan Leader. Asher is determined to become the new leader. His family name needs clearing and he wants to bring back Skyhunter Clan to what it once was, a proud and honorable Clan. First, he must enter a building to register. He and his dragon are wary of enclosed places. They are still learning to talk and react with each other. His dragon is a sassy randy dragon. Asher needs to lighten up and smile more. It seems his dragon will be trying to accomplish just that. There are seven candidates: five males and two females. His best friend from his teenage years is back from America, Honoria Wakeham. She is part of the candidate pool. Asher’s dragon is smitten and wants Asher to go talk to her. The DDA employee, Penny, outlines the rules and challenges for the Clan Leader trial. This is an unusual trial and other Clan Leaders will meet with the candidates and help in the decision making. It is emphasized that this could be the last chance for Skyhunter. Honoria and Asher decide that they might be stronger as a team, a balanced leadership and suggest that to the trail leaders. Can they do this? Do they have a chance? Asher and Honoria are not true mated but there is a strong connection. Can they weather the trials and learn from each other? This is another good book in Jessie Donovan’s Dragon series. We see glimpses of past characters and get little bits of updates. We find new characters and interesting situations. You will not be able to put this book down. I want to know more about these delightful dragon clans.
Clan Skyhunter, under the rule of a lunatic who had hurt both shifters and humans alike After the hell that Skyhunter had been put through whilst Marcus King had been in charge, he had been responsible for atrocities to both humans and also dragon shifters alike, he had incarcerated Dragon Shifters, locking them away from their dragons’ halves with the use of heavy drugs which unfortunately some of them would not recover fully from. Asher King had been incarcerated for over five years not knowing how his family, friends or students had feared he had simply been living every day as though it might be his last his dragon locked away in a drugged stupor had nearly pushed him to madness however now that Marcus had been removed he was vying with several other Dragon men and Dragon women to see the clan through this very trying, also healing time ahead of them all, Honoria had not seen Ashe for over fifteen years since the night her parents had smuggled her away from the clan they had been able to envision the evil that lay in Marcus’s heart and what he was prepared to do to force his views and ideas on his people no matter how many lives it cost and this included not dragon shifter and human kind alike he had very little concern for either. Reading how these two teenagers that had been on the very verge of love were prepared to work and pull together so as the proposed first ruling team they might be able to bring their people into the light together as one, she had experience of the clans in the America’s and also knew the leaders of Stonefire and Lochguard dragon clans whose experience would also be totally invaluable. I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
The cruel clan leader was gone. Punished for his crimes but the remnants of his rule left the clan leaderless and in shambles. Asher planned to lead them back into the thriving clan he remembers from his youth. Something or someone else he remembers is Honoria, his teenage crush. Would she remember their times together?
She'd never forgotten him. At the same time as her parents were sacrificed by the old leader, Asher had been captured and tortured for years. Her loving parents saw the future and sent her to family in America. She, too, was back to reinstate the clan before it was closed and the dragons scattered.
Each signed up for the new clan leader trials. They were always stronger when they teamed up. He was one male who gave her credit for her strength and intelligence. When she suggested they go to the trials as co-leaders his resistance was short lived. Now all they had to do was win the trials, pass the tests, convince the council they were the best option, and overcome the enemies against them. Then they could mend the pieces of the clan back together and get them to trust the other clans. Would their strong feelings and desires for each other help them or hinder?
The author has created a world of dragons and humans like no one else. These beings are strong willed (translate stubborn) very sexual, loyal, loving and protective of their family and clans. We get a visit from some of the old friends we've met and loved from earlier stories as well as to watch two dragons who have suffered mentally and physically join to make their clan thrive again.
This is a perfect addition to the series. It features many of the characters I enjoyed in previous books and the introduction of two dragon shifters determined to save their clan. They unite to protect it and find themselves yearning for a personal connection as well.
Asher and Honoria have changed a lot since they were teens in love. He served years in prison for standing up to his uncle and she lost her parents and her clan to stay safe. When they are united in their desire to lead their clan, they find that the one thing that has not changed is their strong connection and attraction for one another.
I admired them both for staying strong even with many losses. Asher refuses to back down and lost so much but has no regrets for doing the right thing. He really wants to be with Honoria but doesn't want to risk the clan being harmed. She shares his desire to protect the clan but has a lot of fights with her dragon about waiting to explore the desire to be with him. They really make for a great couple and great leaders.
I am always looking forward to what is next for the series.
Holy smokes Batman was that am interesting book! I loved this book loved the characters the plot line but did leave so many curious questions, despite that I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Character breakdown;
Asher: I liked him, liked that despite everything he went through he was willing to still fight for his clan. Liked that he was willing to not allow his last name defy him and loved that he allowed growth and change for his family. Definitely the best thing to happen to Skyhhnter.
Honoria: first that name was hard to pronounce! Lol but I loved her spirit and her ideas. Loved how easily she complimented Asher and fought just as hard for the clan.
Favorite quote: "Together, I know we'll make it stable. But I can't risk losing you, Ria. And I want the world to know you're mine." "More like you're mine."
I'm still left with one question, who did Aimee mate? And will we know how it happened?
Other than that this book was fun and it was different from the other two series, I am looking forward to the more places the author plans to showcase in this universe.
After years of reading Ms. Donovan's stories I have to admire how she conveys emotions, the feelings of fear and love, the world building with each o her books and finally how strong her characters are within the stories she tells.
Honoria is a white dragon whose parents sent her to America for her safety, She has come back to her home clan the Skyhunters to compete for the right to lead the clan but she discovers her childhood sweetheart is also competing. Asher has had a rough five years being tortured by his cousin because he would not submit to his Uncle's harsh leadership, despite that he remained strong. He too is competing for leadership imagine his surprise.
These two are scarred in different ways, wlll they have the strength and leadership abilities to succeed? You can find out within because I gave the only details to encourage you to grab a copy, Yes i voluntarily chose to read an advance copy and I haven't been compensated in any way unless you consider that she took me away from my constant pain for a few hours but don't take my word for it judge it fr yourself I think you will be happy that you did.
We read this book for episode 52 of our podcast. Dragons, dragons, dragons! We just cannot get enough of dragon-shifters. In Jessie Donovan’s dragon world, the Skyhunter clan is left in turmoil at the end of Marcus King’s terrible reign. Asher and Honoria were teenage sweethearts, now they are competing to become the new leader of clan Skyhunter. As their passion begins to reignite, they realize they are better as a team and fight to lead the clan together. Instead of fighting each other for dominance, both in bed and in the throne room, they work together and take turns being on top! This book is a beautiful example of how two dominant leaders can work together and share authority, and some great sex! This was a small taste of the dragon world created by Jessie and we can’t wait to read more. In this episode we discuss first loves/crushes and the difference between youthful love and the love that comes with age. For more of our thoughts, listen to episode 52 of Shhh We’re Reading Dirty Books found on any podcast platform!
A good story of redemption and strength for the Skyhunter clan in its struggle to become a good clan again. Although a bit sad in back stories of the 2 main characters, it just shows the grit of strength within them. Considering it is currently 6:45 AM and I had thought to just read " 2-3 chapters" at around the books halfway Mark then go to BED.. Lol It's a very easy to keep you entwined in reading. Only negative/ cons to story- and minor spoiler perhaps if continue reading my review- - was although I Liked the afterword, I kinda was hoping to read their about their mating ceremony and something more early development on the sisters recovery perhaps for that celebration versus a huge jump 6 years forward way past obviously many storylines in future. Think would been nicer but that's just my own personal thoughts n feels. Still a good book otherwise.
Wow what a great way to start a new series than with Winning Skyhunter. We now get a new clan, new characters and a whole series of books to read and enjoy. This story starts off with clan trials, Skyhunter is looking for a new clan leader. Asher and Honoria were once teenage sweethearts, but now have to go head to head to win leadership of Skyhunter. Who will win? Once again the author has done a fantastic job writing this story and what a fantastic way to kick off this series. The whole storyline was intriguing and entertaining, and drew me from the beginning. I absolutely loved Asher and Honoria. They were good together and the chemistry was undeniable and hot. It was really nice to catch up with some of the characters from previous books. Overall this was another captivating and enjoyable read. A copy was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book with my honest opinion.
An offshoot of the Stonefire Dragon books, this book starts the new series exploring other dragon clans. This one finally shows us the after effects of Marcus King’s old clan, where he ruled with tyranny. After being overthrown the DDA have to help them elect a new clan leader at Skyhunter. Imprisoned and tortured for five years, Asher puts himself forward along with Ria who has just returned, amongst other contenders. As well as the progress of the actual trials, we see the relationship between the two develop and grow, we have fear of the new future and some still scarred from Marcus. It broadens the universe, introducing new plus old characters popping in, including Bram, Finn, Eve and Arabella. It has just the right amount of romance amidst the action, humour and intrigue,
Back in the dragon-shifter world and I am loving it! In the previous books and series, Stonefire and Lochguard, we heard a good amount about the Skyhunter clan. For a good while it was ruled by a tyrant until finally he is gone. Now, Skyhunter is in need of leadership. And that leadership could not be better than Asher and Honoria. Asher was the nephew of the awful leader and has spent the last 5 years imprisoned because he spoke out against his uncle. After 6 months of being released, he is determined to help his clan. Honoria was sent away just before the clan was abused by the last year. Now, she has returned home to help them. While in their teens Asher and Honoria were a couple, until she was sent away. Now that they are home, neither can deny the spark between. And they realize that together they can bring change and hope back to Skyhunter. Clans typically don't have two leaders, but they both know that leading together will only bring good things. They compete in the trials together and while they find a way to lead their clan together, they also desire to be partners in every sense of the word. I loved both of these characters and I loved seeing some familiar faces. Great addition to this dragon-shifter world!
Super excited that were back in stonefire world it was definitely worth the wait. In the previous book series Skyhunter clan was always mentioned didn't realize all the hardships they were facing. To see how passionate Asher and Ria were and how hard they fought for their clan was a sigh to behold. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read plenty of intrigue, action, some laugh out loud moments and of course steamy romance to keep you hooked from beginning to end. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Asher king has been imprison for 5 years by his uncle the leader of Skyhunt . His crime? He disagreed with his uncle on his treatment of the clan. His uncle is gone and he is free. He is trying to get the spot of clan leader to help his clan.
Honoria is a Dragon woman who use to live at Skyhunt but left at 16 for safety and her parents were killed by the old clan leader. She came back to try out for clan leader of Skyhunt and use to date and love Asher as he did her. The story was great. Love the action, drama, mystery and intrigue. The characters are awesome. The story was lots of twists so don't miss it. Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it.
Marcus King was a blight on the rule of Skyhunter and the clan now has a lot to prove to the humans as well as the other dragon clans. Because of Marcus’s actions the leader trials are being run with outside involvement. Asher and Honoria are two of the contestants and both have difficult pasts.
This first book in the Skyhunter clan series is everything I have come to expect from Jessie Donovan’s work and then some. Building the characters within a whole new clan can’t have been easy but they come to life effortlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am hoping for more from this clan.
I never get tired of these stories. The Dragon Universe grows adding interesting and likeable characters that you actually care about and remember as they make cameos in the latest books. I love that Finn and Bran continue to play important roles and keep everyone grounded in their own unique way. Rita and Ash have opened up opportunities for bettering the way clans can work together for the good of all. The news of Aimee was the best anyone could hope for.
Absolutely loved this story! Loved seeing another dragon clan in the Stonefire and Lochguard Dragon universe. Clan Skyhunter has been in some turmoil after their cruel clan leader is gone and now a new one must be selected. Asher, who was imprisoned for much of his Uncle's leadership, must overcome his demons to participate in the clan leader trials. What he doesn't expect is his childhood love, Honoria, to return and also join the trials. Will they find the passion they once had for each other or will the trials put them at odds? You will have to read to find out.
This is not the style of book that I enjoy, even though I love shifter romances. I almost feel as if you needed to have read some of the other books written by the author to better appreciate this novel. At times I felt like some interactions were nods to other books, but since this is my first book by the author, I felt a bit lost. They made a cute couple and it was refreshing to see them so open and straight forward with each other. This was the very opposite end of the miscommunication spectrum.
Winning Skyhunter (Stonefire British Dragons Universe Book 1) by Jessie Donovan. Clan Skyhunter had a cruel leader who is arrested for quite a few crimes so Clan Skyhunter needed a new leader. His nephew Asher put himself forward for Clann leader along with a few others including Honoria. While Asher was imprisoned for standing up to his uncle, Honoria was sent to America. The two decided to compete as a couple and won the competition. It took years but eventually they turned Clan Skyhunter into a happy clan.
I received an ARC copy for an honest review. We now have a whole new clan to get to know. Honoria and Asher are teenage sweethearts that were separated suddenly. They run into each other almost 20 years later. And they both want to be the new leader of Skyhunter. We get to know a lot of new characters in this book but also meet up with some of our favorites from Lochguard and Stonefire. I really enjoyed this book. But I expect no less from Jessie Donovan. Great job!
After being imprisoned by the previous clan leader, his cousin Ash is ready to become the new clan leader of clan Skyhunter. He wants to take them into a direction of hope and positivity. What he didn't take into account is a blast from the past Ria, who also wants to be the clan leader. Together they work together to become co-leaders and forge a future for their clan.
What can I say, its brilliant. The budding and building relationship between Ash and Ria is interwoven with glimpses of the previous cruel life in the Skyhunter clan which at times makes you want to cry. Thankfully their challenge for leadership is rewarded if not dangerous at times. Brilliantly written and lovely to see other characters as well
Sometimes it's Asher's dragon who needs to keep him in line, "his dragon snorted. Now who's the randy one? Stop thinking with our ***k and focus." Asher's dragon is a cheeky one, "she smiled at him and walked up to his bed. "You're awake and not scowling. That's a good start." His dragon snorted. If she looked down, she'd see why we aren't scowling." I liked this book, I loved Asher.
It's very hard 2 turn fears into positive things after so many years of abuse, etc. But it's awesome that the couple that was childhood sweethearts came back 2gether and try 2 make ALOT of changes 4 the better in the future. I got lost in the end about Amie had a mate now. Hopefully there's a story about her since is was 2 broken B4. It's awesome as usual. Can't wait 4 more asap!!
