Some people live to work, others work to live. But Elma works to... eat! Elma is a Harmony Dragon who came to the human world to bring fellow dragon Tohru back home. In order to stay close to Tohru, Elma has taken a job as an office lady (OL). This charming new series from the world of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid follows the 9-to-5 adventures of Elma as she learns to work and eat her way through the OL life. From mixed-up mixers to death marches, Elma learns that being an OL is just as hard as being a dragon...
2.4 Stars. I'm a big fan of office comedies but not a particular fan of the Dragon Maid series. I have seen the entirety of the show and flipped through the main entries but it just isn't for me. Alma being my favorite character however did grab my attention so I decided to give this a shot. Overall a decent run of the mill office story just with the world and wackiness of the Dragon Maid aid series. A little bit more inclusion of the full cast then I'd like for a spin-off focused on one character but not awful. I'll check out Volume 2 at some point.
I read this manga together with a YA family member, since we're both fans of the show. We give it four stars, since there were many LOLs but a couple flaws (Chapter 6 was a little weak with a focus on food, and there was a little sexism, like saying a social mixer is a "woman's battlefield.").
The focus is on work and socializing with co-workers, all which is new to Elma. One chapter was devoted to a "Death March," which is what Japanese call a period of intense overtime.
It would be fun to read more from this series, but on the other hand, I don't plan on going out of my way to get hold of other volumes.
