Remember that time an Essex Council odd job man rode the social media boom to become a minor internet superstar? No? Well, Kunt does, because it was him! i, Kunt is the unique story of how Kunt and the Gang went from bedroom studio bod to award-winning comedy phenomenon, set against the backdrop of the good old days of social media, before the thought police took it over. Between 2003 and 20016 Kunt and the Gang got over 3 million YouTube views, despite having their channel shut down, scored two of the least appropriately named titled top 75 UK hit singles of all time, were ostracised by the Edinburgh comedy community over a misjudged advertising campaign involving stickers of crudely drawn penises, and organised the world's first ever dirty protest where literally tens of people tweeted jpegs of their faecal excrement to evil entertainment bigwig Simon Cowell.Oh, and got banned from Butlins. i, Kunt is an extraordinary tale about trying to stay true to your principles whilst dressed head to toe in hi vis, pretending to cry and masturbate.
Look, there are a lot of you who will find this book terribly offensive. That's fine, it's not for everyone. For those of you who don't, this was an interesting insight into what can only be described as the phenomenon of Kunt. It's an engaging and witty trawl through what made the man, and life as a minor internet celebrity, which in places, genuinely gave me the lols. Furthermore, after Howard Marks, Mr. Nice, this is only the second autobiography I've ever actually managed to finish, so it must have had something about it.
A joyous journey through minor internet stardom. There are some really laugh out loud moments in this book as Kunt takes us on a journey from his humble beginnings in Essex through to his retirement from the pub/ club circuit.
If you've never heard of Kunt and the gang you should read this. There are some real toe curling moments of how audiences responded to his act and how the white middle class snobbery that pervades the Edinburgh Fringe responded to his clever publicity ploy to advertise his shows.
I doubt this book will be in Richard and Judy's book club and that if anything is a reason why you should read this.
A surprisingly lovely guy. Doesn't mention my dickhead ex boyfriend's band who supported him a few times even though he mentions loads of support bands 👌
Funny and brilliant! Well done Kunt. Give it a year or so and get back on the road 👍
As for a review it's just a humorous look on life on the road as a solo artist. The dangers of touching on dodgy subjects people can take the wrong way. If you're here you probably know K&TG anyway buy it .. can't see it being in your local library (if the Tories haven't forced it to shut down) 😉
An enjoyable romp through the career of an edgy entertainer. Much like Jimmy Carr, says things others wouldn't, often with hilarious results. Displays a love of the craft, carrying on the traditions of bands and comedians alike, keeping live entertainment fun.
Such a funny book. Been a big Kunt fan for years. Great to hear the stories behind the gigs and recognise a few I was at. Get your gran a copy for her birthday.
