Well, hot dang! This is my last Kierstin Modglin book and it was a good one! Gia is one seriously misunderstood character! We all thought she was just some psycho murderer who’d do anything to keep her secrets buried. Well, turns out she’s got some secrets we didn’t see coming, and yep—she’s still a psycho! But this book dives into the "how" and "why" of it all. A perfect wrap-up to the series!
Cheeeeeezy. The romance part of this book felt like someone was reading lines in a play with a very monotonous voice. Funny how they fall head over heel in love and have to profess their undying love within minutes of meeting. My biggest issue however was that a psychologist fell for his client, and this wasn’t handled well in the book as well. Being a therapist myself, I am always angry when there is a ethical breach. When it’s glossed over as a mistake, I am furios. I’m all for second chances but want to see some real guilt and doubt that feel real.

What an epic, emotional conclusion to this amazing series! I have loved every intense minute of Fiona and Logan! This series has been angsty and delicious. Fiona and Logan will always have a place in my heart!!
An emotional journey filled with angst, shocking truths, unbelievable lies, surprising twists and maybe, just maybe, a little love and hope. After reading the first three books in the series, I was eager to read Fiona's story. I needed to understand why she did the things she did. I was unprepared for the harsh reality that was her life. Logan has his own demons, his soul broken and his life's reality is also full of lies and deceit. Can these two broken souls help mend each other? Are they both destined to never be whole and just lifeless shells of human beings? This entire series has burrowed down into my heart and has at times, overtaken my mind. All four books have characters that the reader will wholeheartedly fall in love with and also completely hate. This series will have you gasping in shock, crying in despair and taking deep breaths when a possible happy ending is in sight.
This is the last of the Messes series. Having read many of KMod’s books, I’m amazed at how unscrupulous the characters are in these books. They all do immoral, illegal, and disgusting acts to get what they want. I liked the first one the best and didn’t care for the 2nd and 3rd of the series. While this book also had some unconscionable actions, it did wrap up all of the characters from the whole series, hence my 4 stars. I also like her for an easy read. It’s always nice to have those books you know will be a quick read without a lot of heavy drama. For that reason, I’ll continue to read her books and most of them are really good. My favorite so far is The Missing.
Wow! To think this series has come to an end. It's quite heartbreaking to see the conclusion but what a way to end it. Fiona has always had the shorter end of the stick and it made her strong, and a survivor and almost bitter at her lot in life. Then along came Logan! He broke down her walls and showed her she was worth loving and worth fighting for. And she even saved him in the process. Without giving away spoilers then ended was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Kiersten for the memories. These characters will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will miss them.
I've been dying to read this freaking book after reading The Healer!!!! Omg once again not disappointed at all, but of course not because this author is absolutely freaking talented! I'm so sad to see this series come to an end. I love all these characters and the development in all of them.
This is a suspenseful story about a messed up girl named Fiona, and also Logan. Both are fighting their own battles. Not saying another word!!!! This is definitely a series that you don't want to miss.
5tka.

What do we fight for every day, not just to survive the life we are given, but for the love we sometimes think we don’t deserve? What do we strive for everyday? We strive to be greater than we were the day before but sometimes that is not always the case. We can also be Prisoners of our past fighting to be free, yet that is what Fiona is, she is a prisoner of her past running from not only herself but trying to escape it. And who can you trust when you’re running from something you’re not sure of?
Logan is always trying to fix those that are broken, to help them pick up the pieces of the past to make them whole, but when his life shatters around him who can help him break free of his prison? He is broken in the most beautiful way but when he meets Fiona he is only in need of a ride to nowhere and along the way things seem to get a little less broken and it’s possible that they can save each other from their prisons and finally break free from the chains that have been holding them back all this time.
“It’s those of us who are broken ourselves that can most connect to others like us” – Logan
Kiersten Modglin has done it again with the final book in the Messes series, I for one hate to see it end. But I am so glad to see how each of these wonderfully written characters have turned out and all of my questions have been answered, and I truly can’t wait to read more from this amazing author. I love the twist’s an turns that she puts in to her worlds that throw you for a loop that you were not expecting and take you on a truly amazing ride.
The Prisoner is by far my favourite in the series and has edged it's way into my top 5 of all time!
I am absolutely blown away by Fiona' s story it made me feel every range of emotion known - from desolate to ecstatic and excited to scared... Finally getting to see the causes and the reasons behind all of the trauma from this and the other books!
Kirsten, you have smashed it out of the park with this book alone, never mind the other 3 in the series!
YES, she's done it again with the dark and twisty. Trying to figure it all out and failing miserably because you threw in a unforseen twist...How do you do it?? Amazing!
Mild Spoiler Alert... The darkness of Fionas feelings and thoughts amidst her believing she was broken beyond repair made me want to just hug her and tell her it was fine! I so wanted her and Logan to have the happy endings they deserved and I absolutely loved the way their relationship changed and developed!!!
I'm actually quite sad that we won't get another chance to envelope ourselves in their world again.. #SmashedIt

Perfect ending to this wonderful series. Kiersten did an amazing freaking job with this book and this series. I loved every single story, every single character, every single twist and turn. This one gives you the ending you have been waiting on . The ending you definitely don't see coming . But I loved being able to read about Fiona and get her story. You read about her through this whole series. I was ready to finally read her story and I understand her better. That is exactly what Kiersten gives you with this storyline. Her heart wrenching twisting emotional story. Hold on because you will go on a ride you won't forget with Fiona. This is my favorite in this series. But I absolutely loved the whole series. Can't wait to read more from Kiersten. Amazing job so well written highly recommend.
Where do I begin? This series has rocked me to my core, but this one even more so. I had to catch my breath while reading as a tear was coming down my face. I wasn't a fan at first of Fiona but she is now my favorite. This whole series the characters just stick with you and this one just had me in awe from the very first page.
I read ARCs of the other books in this series and I really enjoyed them, so I was really excited to read this book, especially after the ending of the last book! I received an ARC of this book and started reading it as soon as I could! After reading this book, I can say that I loved it! It tied up all the loose ends from the other books and kept me desperate to read on and find out what was going to happen next! This book also only took me a few sittings to read because I had a hard time putting it down! I loved the twist and turns and they added a lot to the plot and its development! There was even some action and suspense too, which I loved, and the romance was very beautiful The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Fiona was the main female character, and she was in the other books in this series, so I couldn't wait to read her story! I felt like I got to understand Fiona more in this book and about why she had acted the way she had during this series! She had been through an unimaginable situation and then her childhood had made her doubt herself and feel like she couldn’t be loved! Well, I loved Fiona in this book! She wanted to be loved and to feel like she belonged and her love interest showed her these things! I felt like Fiona came a long way in this book and she may have been quite a dark character, but there were so many bright spots for her too! Logan was the main male character and love interest of Fiona! I wasn’t really sure what Logan’s story was going to be in this book, but it definitely wasn’t anywhere near what it actually was lol! His story was unexpected, but it added to the plot and created a few action scenes! It was also easy to see that Logan really cared for Fiona and he taught her a lot! He was very protective of her too and just wanted what was best for her! I loved that this book was written from both Fiona and Logan's point of views! I was expecting it to be because the other books in this series have been written from both characters point of views and the synopsis gave the impression that it was going to be! It helped me connect and understand both characters more and it allowed for more things to happen in the plot, especially as Fiona and Logan were dealing with their own issues! I'm also really sad that this book is the final book in this series! I would love to have read more on any of the characters in this series, but I can also understand why this book is the final book! The author wrapped everything up and answered all the questions that were raised! This series has also been amazing, so I can't wait to see what this author is going to release next and I still have a few of her other books to read, so I can't wait to check them out! The cover for this book is also stunning and matches the other covers in the series perfectly! I love it a lot and it would definitely draw me to the book and make me want to read the story behind it! I love the colouring of it too! Big thank you to Kiersten for an ARC of The Prisoner!
"I can't help but want to get to know what's behind those gorgeous eyes." "Venom and nightmares. There are places in my mind that would terrify you."
Holy Hannah! I did NOT see that coming!! I can't tell you the amount of times I audibly gasped during this read!! In true Modglin fashion, I was kept guessing and was totally shocked at the ending!
Fiona Dinali is just trying to survive. Day to day. Always looking over her shoulder. Always doing whatever she has to in order to stay alive one more day. She's done terrible things. Her secrets are hers and hers alone. She can't afford to let anyone too close. They could hurt her. Or worse, she could hurt them. Until him. Why she agreed to give him a ride to nowhere she'll never know. Their only connection seems to be that they're both running and they both have a darkness inside them. But, for the first time, she's feeling things she shouldn't. Things she doesn't deserve to feel. It's too risky to let her heart distract her from her plans. She'll soon find out there's more to Logan than she could ever have imagined. Was their encounter random at all? Has she failed at staying invisible, letting her past catch up with her? Will she be forced to do to Logan what's she's done to so many others to protect herself? Or, could he be the light to her darkness?
Logan North is a dead man walking . Sooner or later he'll be found and , soon thereafter, a corpse. Maybe he should welcome the sweet dream of death. His life is already ruined. His career is over. His lover is gone. He could count the reasons to keep running on one..... well , on no hands. Until her. Kindred spirits wandering in the darkness, they somehow need each other. Can they pull each other in to the light? Or, will his secret plunge them both into hell forever.
I have called Ms. Modglin the queen of twists and turns. Well, my friends, she has put another jewel in her crown with this one. Another diamond in her tiara. Another gem in her scepter. I never, and I mean, NEVER, saw this ending coming! While the other books in this series are stand-alones, this one is not. It needs to be read as the finale or you'll spoil everything!! I am so sad to see this series end, but I am ecstatic to see what Ms. Modglin has in store for us next!!!
The Prisoner by Kiersten Modglin, the fourth and final novel of the Messes series is a novel full of shocks, twists and turns and so much heartbreak and pain. This novel is a thriller through and through, and you will absolutely love it! You will need to read the first three novels in the story for the fourth novel to make complete sense, and it will answer the questions raised from the previous books. It’s a must.
I loved looking into Fiona’s background; how she was in the past, how it shaped her future and why she is the way she is. My heart absolutely broke her heart, and it was nice to see her more human side than the antagonist in her. There is some pretty deep and triggering moments in the novel, so be careful when reading it. But I felt I got to know the real side of Fiona instead out of somebody else’s eyes, and honest to say, despite what happened in the past, her mistakes, they make a lot more sense, and my heart felt for her. Not excusing them, of course, but I understand why she did them a lot more.
There is a huge twist in this book! I’m not a spoil-sport, but it will definitely shock you! It did, me. I did not see it coming at all, and I absolutely loved it. There was nothing in this book that didn’t either shock me, or hurt my heart, but I could not put it down. The pain was worth it.
The Prisoner is an incredible book. It had me glued to the page, with my heart bleeding for Fiona and Logan. This novel is unpredictable and addicting. I loved it all. Just absolutely awesome!
5 AMAZING stars!! This is my most favorite book of this series and damn if I didn’t think that of them all!!
This is book 4 in “The Messes” series. I would not advise this to be read as a stand alone. Too many characters with too much back story. But you will not regret reading them all!! Love it.
This book is all about Fiona and damn it’s good. I have been waiting for this story. She deserved this story. I literally hated her UNTIL this book. This story needed to be told. And... omg.. some crazy shit went down. It is Fiona/Gia’s book, you had to know it was gonna be chaos!! Yes!
Fiona and Logan are what make crazy fucked up relationships beautiful. I loved this entire story. Like if I didn’t have this miserable virus I would have read this in one sitting. This is pure perfection.
Gia destroyed me. Broke my heart. Made me want to rage against EVERYONE in this book. Fiona made me whole. Made me want to fix everyone. This book was beautiful. I am utterly destroyed that this is the last book. I can’t take it. Give me more!!!!!!
If you want crazy good then here it is!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
This is book 4 in the Messes Series by Kiersten Modglin. Now where all the other books in this series you could read as stand-alone, I would highly suggest you read the others before The Prisoner, so some of the things mentioned will make sense. Now I a grateful and upset that this is the last book in this series. Upset because even though these characters will forever be etched in my mind I am not ready to say goodbye to them yet. Grateful as I am not sure I can take much more as this last book left me emotionally raw. This book was an emotional roller coaster. Fiona and Logan will tug at your heart as their story weaves through heartache, trust issue with the need to survive. This book sums up all loose ends in the series while beautifully telling us of the two broken souls who just might find their redemption to be freed from their prison. All in all, this is one series that you don’t want to miss out on.
The first book I read by Kiersten Modglin was The Liar. There was something about that story, the author's style of writing and storytelling...I had to read more. So, as soon as I could get my hands on The Prisoner, I dove in.
Oh my, Modglin is brilliant! The Prisoner was literally everything. Different but captivating and you won't be able to put it down until the end. And then, you're like, what the heck! Yes, the author totally threw in that surprise. Fiona and Logan are two characters unlike any other characters out there. Painful pasts that will haunt you, it's no wonder the two of them ended up the way that they were.
If you like stories with a kink to them, a little unexpected twist that you aren't prepared for, this is a story (series) for you. The author did a remarkable job plotting all the details, how every single thing was important in making book four come together the way that it did. If you're tired of the same old tropes, then this is certainly a series you need to try. I think Modglin will get inside your head and take you places you never knew you could venture.
I can't lie, I was nervous for this book. I've followed this series from the beginning. I loved book 1 and then book 2 blew me away. It was some of the best writing I had seen since I found Kiersten Modglin's books earlier this year. But then something happened with book 3 and me. While I liked it a lot, it didn't blow me away. That made me nervous I would feel the same with book 4.
But let me tell you, book 3 was low key because I think we needed low key to handle book 4. The Prisoner was a different kind of story from what I have read of Modglin's, but it didn't lose it's twists and turns.
The story broke my heart while stitching it back together. Fiona is one of those characters that not everyone connects with on a personal level, but those that do, it's on a level that is unlike any other. It pulls at you in all the worst and best ways. That's how I felt while reading Fiona. And the ending.. Man, what an ending.
I won't give anything away, but this is a series I love. A series full of flawed characters that don't turn perfect and I loved how The Prisoner tied them all up as neatly as we can expect flaws to be tied together.
This is book 4 in a series of books that Kiersten Modglin has put together that really blows your mind with all of the suspense and the twist and turns that you never see coming. When I read any book, I actually visualize the entire book in my mind, some may think that's crazy, but that's me. This was so hard not to feel any ill feelings towards Fiona and the things that she had to endure and do in order to keep others safe and secure. In comes Logan, who really put everything that Fiona has done at risk or does it bring everything and everyone to a totally shocking end.. Everything is totally unexpected. I Loved reading this series and cannot wait to see what Kiersten Modglin comes up with next. You will not be disappointed reading this series.....
Wow! Wow! Wow! What can I say about this amazing book?! I mean words cannot express how this book made me feel. Fiona went through so much as a child growing up and to have most of it happen at the hands of someone that's suppose to love and care for you. It was heartbreaking. Then everything else she went through, it was devastating. But, in a way her choices, later on, I understood why she did what she did. This book was a perfect ending to this incredible series. I'm sad to see it come to an end. But, I hope to hear more about some of the newer characters introduced later on. Fingers crossed. Fantabulous job well done yet again Kiersten! Loved this story something fierce!
The Prisoner is the 4th and final book in the Messes Series. This was so good, I couldn’t wait to see how it played out. It was a suspenseful romance that was full of heartache, pain, danger, forgiveness, tragedy, survival and freedom. I wasn’t as excited about this one because I hated Fiona in the other books and while she still isn’t my favorite character, I don’t hate her anymore. You are given a deeper dive into her horrific childhood and many things make more sense. I guess I just have a harder time with forgiveness than the characters did, lol. I loved how everyone from the other 3 books were brought back in this one too. It was the perfect wrap up to the series. Trigger warning- There is a rape scene that made me uncomfortable, so if you can’t handle that, you’ve been warned.
I don’t even know where to begin, this whole series has been an emotionally intense with mind blowing twists and turns roller coaster ride. Secrets and hard truths are revealed that not are not only devastating, but bring forth an understanding for everything that has happened. Fiona has been through so freaking much, she runs into Logan who has his own devastation he’s running from. Can they trust, depend and possibly love each other. A must read that will hit all your feels repeatedly, but that you’ll be drawn in and read straight through
Well first off if you haven’t read the previous books go back and read them as you will not get the impact of the story. Fiona/Gia is a murderer and she knows it so she figures she would just off on her own so she doesn’t hurt anyone else. When she meets Logan she tries to get rid of him but he just won’t quit but Logan says he is drawn to her but she doesn’t trust him and with good reason. This book ties up a lot of loose ends and it also makes all the books leading up to this make a lot of sense. I really enjoyed this series and The Prisoner is like the whipped cream on top.
I had never read this author before The Messes Series and boy oh boy was I missing out!! This last book in the series was so emotional and beautifully written that I could not put it down once I started it and read it all in one setting. Fiona/Gia and Logan were truly two broken souls that desperately needed the other one. I don't want to post any spoilers because you need to read this one for yourself, so what I can say is have your tissues ready and you will get some big surprises that will have you completely lost for words.
