As a witch, Ava Blakely is a failure. Powerless. It's probably why her fiance jilted her at the altar. She's determined to make a life for herself--living as a human if she has to--and growing her potions business. It's a lonely existence until two Enforcers whisk her away, hoping one of her potions can reverse a hex. But one of the Enforcers, a hotter-than-hot witch, is interested in more than her potions.

This was such a fun, light and lively romance, I read it in once sitting. The characters were charming, and the plot points well-connected. A perfect summer read!

A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE !!!
Title: Hexed and Vexed
Series: Wards and Wands
Author: Rebecca Royce
Designation: Book 1 of Series, Full-Length, Standalone Paranormal/Supernatural/Fantasy Romance, NO Cliffhanger, HEA
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Magically Delicious Stars*****
Wow! What a delightful surprise! This may have been my first time reading the work of Rebecca Royce, but it certainly won't be my last! I'm officially a fan and will definitely be purchasing the second book of the series, Curse Reversed! Royce snagged my attention in the blurb when she described the heroine, Ava Blakely, as being the worst witch in school and then set the hook in the very first paragraph of the first chapter. Come on, folks, let's be honest! Who wouldn't be intrigued when you discover the heroine is having to wear a puke pink bridesmaid dress for her sister's wedding where her ex-fiance (who left her standing at the altar alone) is currently attending with his beautiful new fiancee! I was immediately smitten with Ava Blakely. She may have been the worst witch in witchling school, but she was one class act - kind, loyal, compassionate, hardworking, independent, and never allowed her limitations to control her life. And Witch Enforcer Lawson Abramowitz can be my hero and put a spell on me any day of the week! But sadly, he only had eyes for the lovely Ava! lol... I could actually feel the attraction between Lawson and Ava and their chemistry was nothing short of magical. (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun). I also really loved the premise of this story. When I decided to purchase Hexed and Vexed, I had no idea it would have so much mystery, suspense, and intrigue, and the neverending plot twists kept me on my toes. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Was there anything I didn't like? Not a darn thing! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does include a few dreamy sex scenes. If you enjoy well-crafted, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, engaging, full-length, standalone paranormal tales filled to the brim with heart-stopping danger, intriguing drama, pulse-pounding action, perplexing mystery, spine-tingling suspense, evil machinations, quirky characters, agonizing angst, laugh-out-loud humor, steamy passion, and heartwarming happy endings, then you'll adore this book! Yup, Hexed and Vexed has it all! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! And by admission from Royce, this delightfully entertaining story started with only a title and a puke pink dress! Well done, Rebecca Royce! Well done indeed!

No spoilers from me but I will say this... Beautiful, kindhearted, and independent witch with no magic trying to make the best of her life after being unexpectedly left at the altar by her fiance-check! Handsome, overworked Witch Enforcer who has no time for a personal life but has always had a crush on Ava Blakely, the woman who saved his life but one he could never have-check! A cast of quirky characters-check! A sprinkling of humor-check! Murder, magic, mayhem, mystery, suspense, family drama, evil machinations, and plot twists galore-OMG, YES! Irresistible attraction, undeniable passion, and heartwarming romance-You bet! That and a whole lot more! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

This was a more enjoyable read than the other books I've read by this author but not without flaws. The world was far less complicated and slightly better explained than the last hope series but it could've used a bit more fleshing out still. The writing was still very awkward...the author has a lot of raw talent but it needs shaping and a better editor as there were some places that I couldn't figure out what she was trying to say at all and even more where it was a major struggle to. I liked heroine's kindness and loyalty but she erred on the whiny side which got annoying at times. Hero was hubba hubba hot...all intense and smoldering. Sex scenes ok but rather light on details. I liked the storyline and the pacing was even decent compared to the other series but I wish people would stop trying to cram ten storylines and "big reveals" into one book. If you have too much drama nothing is dramatic anymore. like I used to watch the show arrow and at a certain point I stopped getting upset when a character died because I knew the show would find a way to bring them back...the death lost all the emotional impact it's supposed to have. The romance is cute though and I'm a sucker for any world where love is forever.
This was an enjoyable read but I don't think I'll read anymore by this author.

HEXED & VEXED

Ava is a witch who has no powers, but she’s also a Blakely, a potion maker, and after ten years her fiancé leaves her at the alter. A year later she’s still struggling with what happened that day. In steps Lawson, an enforcer who needs Ava’s help but who has also had a crush on Ava since school. With Lawson and Ava working together it brings them closer together, and Lawson manages to break down her walls. But she still has many challenges ahead of her, is she strong enough to see them through?

OMW I absolutely loved this story, it was so sweet and very entertaining. The storyline was intriguing and totally captivating, with mystery, magic, humour and romance to fill the pages. Lawson and Ava were great characters and I loved them both. Such a sweet couple with loads of chemistry and a good connection. I loved his take charge ways and her straightforwardness, they were perfectly suited. Such a great and enjoyable read, can’t wait for book 2! A copy was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book with my honest opinion.

Heather's Notes
I really liked this book. I liked that Ava was able to take care of herself and the Lawson let her. I also liked that Lawson loved her for who she was. I figured out those cookies way before anyone in the book. That felt obvious to me. I will definitely continue this series.

A fun read, I liked Ava, she had issues but she also had a backbone and while she had moments I wanted to whack her one she worked through them and I loved that. What an amazing world, the only squibble I had is the underlying plot arc was as clear as glass right from the very first cookie.

Parts of the storyline could've been great but the ideas or scenes weren't fully developed. Same with the characters. This book has a "skippy" feel to it. Pacing and transitions from one conflict to another scene weren't smooth.

*This is a complete rewrite of a short story the author had published years ago in an anthology. Olive is now Ava and Campbell is now Mitchell. That is where the similarities end between the two stories. I have not read the original, but just from reading the synopsis about it, I know that it is a completely different story. So don’t confuse the shorter novella with this much longer novel. Even if you have read the original novella, I would still recommend reading this one, because other than being in the witching world and a horrible pink bridesmaid dress, that’s where the similarities end. A definite complete rewrite.

After reading Rebecca Royce’s ‘Wings of Artemis’ series, I have to say that this was a delightful departure from that dystopian society. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that series, but every once in awhile it’s nice to just immerse myself in a fun, light romance. Rebecca definitely delivers with this story.

Ava is a witch without any powers and Lawson is the big, strong witch Enforcer who comes to her for help with a hex. Ava was left at the alter a year before by her boyfriend/fiancée of ten years. She still hasn’t really recovered from it and doubts everything because of her ex-fiancées rejection and subsequent engagement to another woman. Enter Lawson, the man who has had a crush on Ava since their school days. Needless to say, Lawson manages to infiltrate Ava’s life and eventually wins her heart.

Ava and Lawson were such a sweet couple. I really was rooting for them throughout the story. There is a bit of a mystery, as well as a few other things that happened that I did easily figure out right from the beginning. Mitchell, Ava’s ex, was extremely obvious. I saw that one coming from a mile away, as well as why Ava didn’t have any powers. No spoilers here though, so you will have to read it for yourself to find out what I’m talking about.

Definitely worth the read if you are in the mood for a light, magical romance with two wonderfully sweet witches. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series, which will be Mitchell’s story.

” ‘I’m going to remind you over and over again how much I love you until it’s so embedded within your soul no magic spell will ever take it from you.’ “

A Decadent ‘Tease’, this is a short novella has magic, romance, love, and an unlikely second chance. It’s an entertaining and engaging story of a relationship thrown off course by unknown magic. There is clear, strong love between Olive and Campbell, but Olive is hurt by his unintended betrayal. Will she be able to forgive him?

A quick read, perfect for a single sitting, Hexed and Vexed is magically fun and romantic.

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Rebecca Royce

Another great story by Rebecca Royce. Loved that this one is different from all the other books I've read through her. Ava is having a rough year. She may be a talentless no powers witch with a powerful family name to back her up. But being jilted at the alter by her ex-fiancee and having to bump into him and her everyday doesn't help her heart. Then an enforcer named Lawson storms into her life and takes her reins by storm. Can he truly love a powerless witch? And save her from all thats bad around her?

How bad could today get...after all, being forced to stand up at your twin sisters wedding to the love of her life while the man you were MEANT to marry and left you at the alter is mere feet away attending said wedding? Oh! To make things better he who shall not be named is in attendance with his NEW fiancee that he got mere days after not showing up to the aforementioned sham of a wedding. I guess for some, having a well to do last name is NOT everything. Ava was contemplating her life and misery watching her beloved sister marry when out of the blue her life changed....or should I say popped into view? Two witch Enforcers crashed the wedding and demand she go with them...after assuring her she wasn't in trouble that is. Why not? After all what else did she have to lose? She was after all the witch with no.powers in a society filled with powerful witches. Even her family seemed to think so little of her they never once stood up for her regarding the wedding debacle, and were always courteous to the worm in public!! Little did she know everything would soon change...like magic. Within moments of Ava leaving with Lawson (hottie Enforcer guy #1) and Stefan (partner of hottie Enforcer guy#1) she finds a severely hexed woman on the floor of her potion shop. How they knew Ava could even help was beyond her as she has zero magical ability...but she just couldn't let this woman suffer. Ava herself wasn't 100% certain it would work, but she'd do her very best. Thankfully Kim, the love of Stefan's life pulled through. Through a bunch of craziness, the next few days draw Ava and Lawson together a few times...between natural disasters, crazy people, and a few run in with downright mean people...Lawson repeatedly comes to her aid, and she his. Find out how this strong, resilient, independent, kind and quirky woman from a witch family survives all the odds in this crazy world. She rises to the occasion over and over, and possibly finds a new place within herself to make her proud. I for one hope there are MANY MORE books to come in this series. It has magic, but also a great deal of heart!

Another award-winning book this lady as I've said before, knows how to write, it's just phenomenal. Each story captivates you from the first page to the end, it's full of Magical Fireworks, with a Dream Boyfriend.
Ava Blakely aka: Tiny is a Witch she wished that is. Her whole family were witches but not her she was "The Worst Witch in Witching School.” she's never had any powers, nothing magical, nothing nada!!! Than she is left at the altar, Ava was the laughing stock of her coven community.  With her head down it hurts so bad Mitchell Sharpe was her everything, he said she was his, then he left her at the altar for Monica Whitt. Now at her sister Zoe (Zo Zo) wedding, who should appear but Mitchell and Monica. Doing her best to ignore them so she doesn't ruin her sister's wedding Ava pretty much stays in the back and then the Enforcers come that scary enforcers can kill witches and who did they want? Ava who had no choice but to go with them so they didn't ruin her sister's wedding.
Lawson Abramowitz who is a Witch Enforcer. One of his gifts is to know things. It comes to him and he knows. He knew about Ava.

The worst witch in witching school. Ava Blakely has heard this her entire life. She's a witch without magic. Only her family's name and money and her boyfriend's powerful family name have saved her from total ostracization or being placed in a "health" facility. Then a year ago her childhood sweetheart left her at the altar for another woman. She is a constant source of witching world gossip, but Ava holds her head high, keeps a smile on her face, and runs a successful potions shop. Change arrives when at her twin sister's wedding Enforcers come to take her away, needing her help saving one of their own. This brings her back into a former classmate's life, Lawson Abramowitz, a powerful, sexy Enforcer. And to Ava's surprise, Lawson is interested in her. This is the beginning of adventures, danger, and revelations. Ava realizes that her life can be different, that things aren't always as they appear. Does she have a chance at normal? At happiness? Or is everything much worse than she ever could have imagined?

Rebecca Royce is one of my very favorite authors. I don't think anyone can match her at developing one strong female character after another. Ava is another exemplary lead female. Others would have given up. She's a witch without magic, discriminated against, shamed, shunned. Yet she is kind to everyone. She has figured out how to take care of herself in a magical world. Her only flaw is her feelings of not measuring up to everyone else. She isn't really ashamed, but she doesn't feel like an equal to the other witches. Understandable, but with her talent for potions, lotions, teas, etc she proves she has a value of her own that should be acknowledged beyond her general goodness. And Lawson! He's seriously awesome. Yes, his job leaves much to be desired, secrecy and danger are hard to live with, but every word out of his mouth, every thoughtful gesture shows he is worthy. Such power combined with such kindness. I fell in love with him myself! The relationship between Ava and Lawson was pure perfection. Ava's twin Zoe and her husband are great side characters and Ava's parents, her ex and his fiance, plus the host of other witches all add to this story.

The story itself is fantastic. The overlying serial hexer, the family drama, the ex-drama, the complicated new love all weave together to captivate the reader from the first to last page. There are so many surprising twists and turns. This is pure entertainment!

Ava has pretty much had the year from hell. She was jilted at the altar by her childhood sweetheart.
She'shad to cope with him and the new fiancee constantly bumping into her. Her fragile self-esteem, being the only non magical person in her family, has taken a battering. But her little potion shop is doing well.

But when her sister's wedding is crashed by the Enforcers, she is whisked off to aid a hexed enforcer. This brings her back into the orbit of Lawson. He has filled out quite a bit since high school and he seems to have power seeping from his pores. But this powerful enforcer couldn't be interested in a squib like Ava...could he?

As Lawson and Ava become further entangled in the mystery of the serial hexer, the unearth all manner of mysteries and magical mayhem. Not least of which we learn some BIG family secrets!

Lawson is perfect as the powerful but still caring and sensitive hero. I loved Stefan's poor sense of timing when it comes to "popping" into his private life! I knew there was something hinky with the Blakely family and I really enjoyed unravelling it all! Great , witty dialogue and some daring do mixed in with magical mayhem. Fab read!

Fast paced with very intresting characters and a lovely world building that i hope we get to see more .
I loved how this book is a paranormal mystery and though it has the love story in it its really well balanced!
I truly can't wait for more of this series!

Hexed and Vexed (Wards and Wands Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Rebecca Royce
I was graciously given a copy of this book and have provided a free and honest review.

The Worst Witch makes the best romance.

Rebecca Royce, the empress of Reverse Harem Romances takes the first turn in her strongly built Wards and Wands world in this fantastic Urban Fantasy Romance.

Several layers of mystery are laid out and a romance just happens to bloom naturally. Almost all of the mysteries get resolved satisfyingly, I wasn't happy however with the heart and core mystery, it is wrapped up with a little twist and turn.

The characters are charming, with Ava at the center Ava is a brill character, you can taste her determination! And her love interest, Lawson – what man, what really good man! Also there is some really special about choosing your mate instead of a fated mate.

I truly have loved all of the books from this author, both ARC's and bought books! Her work is rich enough you get a Book Hangover

Ava is a witch without powers, well she has a knack for mixing potions, but other than that, nothing. She has adjusted from being the 'worst witch in school' and then being left at the alter to owning a shop to sell her potions and creams.

Her sister Zoe has found the perfect match for herself and this book opens with her wedding and Ava moaning about the pink dress her sister has her wearing because she looks cute in pink.

With the party in full swing, enforcers storm the room and demand Ava come with them.

Seems the enforcers know something not many people do. Ava can mix the potions to remove hexes and one of their own has been hexed. A serial hexer is on the loose and they really need to find this person.

There's much more going on as well, really crazy weather, humans bringing a necklace they shouldn't have and lots more add to the intrigue and suspense as Lawton and Ava fall for each other.

I laughed and sniffled, held my breath and gasped. A thoroughly enjoyable book, with just enough lead in to the next in the series.

I really enjoyed the story of a young woman who always felt lesser than others as she had no magical abilities. Ava is a fighter and continues to stand tall even after her fiancé and longtime friend suddenly abandons her.

Lawson is an enforcer with lots of abilities and a strong desire to have a chance with Ava. She is finally single and he doesn't want to waste the opportunity. He brings her into his work and it ends up exposing a lot of secrets. They really make a great couple.

It is a fast paced story and I read it all in one sitting. I really liked how the author had a lot of different elements to the story that kept it interesting and made me eager to see what happened in the end. One part was much more predictable but other elements surprised me.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

This is one of my favorite books by Rebecca. Definitely my favorite non RH book she has. Ava and Lawson are perfect for each other.
Ava is a witch with no powers. Known as the worst witch in witching school. Broken down by her last relationship, she's trudging along in her life the best she can.
Lawson is a big, bad, scary enforcer. He spends all his time hunting down the bad guys. One bad guy who leads him right back to Ava for her help. Who knew the worst witch in witching school would end up being the only one who could help him out. Maybe b/c there's more to Ava than she ever could have imagined.
This story was full of action, adventure, mystery, love and heartbreak. It flowed perfectly and held my attention all the way through. I fell in love with the characters instantly. I can't wait to see what comes next in this series.

It's Ava's sisters wedding her twin sister who got all the magic Zoe Blakely is getting married and she is stuck in this too fluffy pink dress, in a room with an ex-fiance who left her at the altar , a mother always doing something to make her feel bad and too many people looking at her. That's when the enforcers showed up asking for her help .
Lawson is a powerful enforcer when a hex is placed on a friend he knows the one women who can remove it. she is also the one woman he has loved since he was a kid but she was always hanging around with the guy that left her at the altar so maybe he has a chance?
An amazing story full of magic and witches. Great characters mystery and action-packed. I really couldn't put it down. Lots of twists and turns. Your going to love it.
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.

The version of this that I read differs from the original version.

Ava Blakely has spent her whole life with the moniker 'Worst Witch in Witching School', why because her powers never manifested. On the day of her twin sister Zoe's wedding, Magical enforcers crash the reception and whisk her away turning her world upside down.
I was hooked from the very first page this is a book full of twists and mystery, it has murder and secrets and a startling discovery thrown in.There is love, betrayal and magic. I love it when a book passes your expectations because not all do, but this one does.
This book contains a hot, sexy, powerful enforcer that has loved from afar for years, a beautiful powerless witch that is only good at making potions but is determined to do things for herself no matter the cost.
Rebecca Royce is fast becoming a favorite of mine and I can't recommend her enough.

Ava has been dubbed, "The Worst Witch in Witching School" because she seemingly never develops her powers.

The story unfolds after some Enforcers crash her twin sister's wedding. So the book starts off with a bit of action. Lawson is all kinds of sexy book boyfriend.

I was pleasantly surprised with some of the plot developments/twists in this story, because I can typically figure out the big bad. There was one plot development I was able to figure out early on, but it didn't take away from the overall reveal towards the end.

I'm really hoping to see more of Ava and Lawson in the next book, because they are freaking adorable.

PROS:
- Funny
- Lawson, I mean come on, yum
- Multiple entertaining plot twists

CONS:
- I wish there was more Lawson
- More POV from Lawson

OVERALL:
It was a great read, the only thing that bothered me was stopping to sleep, because you know, adult responsibilities and that whole 'work' thing got in the way of finishing.

What an amazing story!! I couldn’t stop once I started reading!!

What I liked about the book:
1. Ava, even though she has gone through a lot of bullying in her life, is a kindhearted, smart, independent and strong woman.
2. Lawson, he is the perfect fit for Ava. Being a man who doesn’t care what other people say about and wanting her for he she really is.
3. Their relationship: we experience the ups and downs, and how having a relationship and a partner can benefit and make each one stronger because you have someone that has your back.
4. The story in itself: you will encounter action, romance, ups and downs, twists and turns. All of which combined make a great storyline that keeps you not wanting to stop reading!

If you are a fan of magic, romance, mystery and action this book is for you!

Sweet story

If I had known what a sweet and amazing book this was, I would have devoured it a long time ago. This is one of those hidden gems I discovered while going through the author's repertoire.

I do love a solid plot and this book delivered on that.
Ava is a sweet, but strong FMC. She's an outcast in the Witching Community, but accepted that fate a long time ago. She has the love of her family to pull her through.

When she and Lawson reconnect,it's obvious that there is mutual attraction between them and we see how their relationship progresses. But there are different plot twists that are a threat to their happiness.

I love books where the love between the H and h is strong. I don't need instalove, but I need that strong connection. And this book was a perfect distraction on a moody day 🙈

What an awesome start to a new series. I really felt bad for Ava being the odd one out. Having to always explain being powerless. It wasn't fair but she stay a gracious person. Thinking the reason she was left at the altar because of it. She didn't need powers to be a strong giving woman. Then a shift came when the Enforcers needed her skills.
Lawson has waited years to talk to Ava. He has loved her that long and wanted to tell her but danger is now in the way. He needs her help but wants to keep her safe also.
This book was so awesome. It's full of mystery, intrigue and has a powerful love story. Ana and Lawson are a perfect couple. I hope to see more of them I future books.

I found Hexed and Vexed funny and I loved the chemistry between Ava and Lawson. They were both well written and fleshed out characters and despite the drama and Ava being without magic and the dangers of Lawson's job they were perfect for each other. And I think Lawson is better for Ava than Mitchell ever could be, he even seems to understand her better than her family with the whole magicless side of things. But occasionally being part of the human world probably helps.

Not to mention the overlying storyline! Theres some hexer out there and something strange going on with the weather that is a little witchy! I love this new series that Rebecca Royce has created.

Another great story! Ava is a witch but has no powers, always called the worst witch in school, and has a shop making potions. When she's taken from her sister's wedding to by Lawson to help on one of his cases she finds herself attracted to this enforcer that her mom wants her to be careful of. Also turns out that she's over her ex more then she thought. Only one thing why does Lawson keep telling her she has powers when she obviously doesn't?

Love this couple! Ava is sweet and Lawson well is what you imagine an enforcer to be. The two together make a great couple! The story has so many surprises and twists that you come to expect from the author's books. Another must read!

What a fantastic start to a new series! Rebecca Royce certainly knows her stuff! With an intriguing plot, extraordinary writing, and characters that just jump right off the page, this book checks every box for me. These characters are both authentic and engaging, and they draw you right into the story. Before you know it, you’re completely obsessed with their lives and relationships. This book had me hooked from very early on and I remained riveted to the very last page. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this outstanding series!

*I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.
