About the author

I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.

National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Rosanne Bittner has always been a favorite author for me.
Love all her older books, and they are still in my possession.
But this trilogy as much as I wanted them to be like those ones..they just didn't "wow" as her others had.
Oh well..still my "go to author"..cant expect the wow factor every time :(

Loved Jonah and Sadie's story -- favorite of the series! Living through their journey and trials with the Indians and Sadie's experience with them was intense! I so wasn't quite sure where Rosanne was going to take the story and she made the ending beautiful!

Excellent Book

Loved the characters and their individual stories. The history of the Indians and their fight to keep their land and the whites desire for more shows how life really was. It was hard to decide whose side to be on.

This one took me 3 or 4 chapters before things got interesting. It is a slow start, but the history is interesting.

A family tries to homestead in Indianna in the early 1800 s, but the family is attacked by Indians and the wife and child is hauled off by a young chief. It was ok. A little gory in spots.

I like historical romance as much as the next gal. But the protagonists of this book, Sadie and Jonah, with their perfect lovey-dovey relationship? Ugh. Sadie and Jonah are kind of boring. They look good physically (and, like in many romances, she HAS to be a BLONDE...cliché)but settling in the Ohio Valley wasn't good enough for them, they became greedy (in my mind, not the author's I guess)and wanted to settle in Indiana. Now, this happens to be in the time of Tecumseh and the War of 1812, so, thankfully Sadie is taken captive by some Powatowami/Shawnee and the plot finally picks up steam. Unfortunately, the sex scenes are glossed over, unlike Sadie and former husband Jonah's scenes. Perhaps because we are supposed to see Sadie and Jonah's relationship as "legit"? Anyway, her captor/husband Windigo is not a bad man, but nothing's ever good enough for Sadie, she just pouts and sulks for Jonah. I probably shouldn't reveal much more, but a lot of wasted potential, I say, and of course some American authors have some rather prudish hang-ups.

It was an average book. I felt that the author went to in depth in the sex scenes involving her husband but gave no detail at all of the ones involving Windago. I liked Windago much better than I liked her initial husband. I also would have liked to have seen how she transitioned back to the white world after being held captive and how she struggled having love for her husband and also love for Windago whom she lost.

This book had a pretty good story line, but it was written like a soap opera. It would almost get deep, but then something improbable would happen, miraculous recoveries or deaths. It also seemed an exploration of survival and the Stockholm syndrome. It had a dumb ending.

Even though I prefer a story with more depth to the plot and the characters, this story was intriguing. This was the first book I've read by this author. I was definitely interested in the book enough to hurry through the last few pages to find out how the story ended.
