NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues Lyric’s epic journey in this spellbinding sequel to From Breath and Ruin.
I lost my past, my friends, and even my connections to both worlds when I found out about the Maison realm and my calling. Now I must put that aside and travel back to the kingdoms to continue my training as the Spirit Priestess. Only my journey isn’t to Rhodes and those I fought alongside before. This time, Easton and the other Obscurité warriors will stand by my side as I try to unlock my final three elements.
A Seer’s wish and the calling of the Lumière kingdom calls me forth, thrusting me into another journey where I must trust those on both sides of the age-old war to survive…and keep those I love safe.

From Flame and Ash has officially made my top ten list of 2019 Young Adult books. Fantasy, angst, suspense, thrills...it has it all. From the first page, I was drawn into a world so captivating, I bumped into a few things because I was walking and reading at the same time. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this series.
Dark and Light have been at war for so long, most have forgotten why they were split, to begin with. Lyric is the girl who is destined to save them all. She brings with her friends she has forged on both sides of the war. Including a love triangle in the making that kept me guessing throughout the book. Elemental battles rage across the pages. Some friendships are made to last, while others crumble around Lyric leaving her feeling betrayed by her magic.
The writing is so clear and descriptive my mind immediately began building the world Carrie Ann Ryan had created. The ease of conversations between the characters and flow from one setting to another was so smooth, it felt like I was there.
This is the second book in the series. While you might not need to read book one to follow the storyline of book two, I recommend starting at the beginning to build a better understanding of the characters and where they come from. Book one and two have been added to my personal library. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, From Spirit and Binding.

Ohhh, the feeling of finding a phenomenal, fantastical, and utterly addicting new YA world. I LOVED getting to sink my teeth into Lyric's journey in Book 1 of the Elements of Five, and Book 2 was just as engaging and entertaining a read for me. This time, Ms. Ryan jumps right into the guts of the story, though weaves in enough of the backstory to ensure that you have enough information from Book 1 to keep yourself on track with the plot. Lyric is pulled into the Obscurite realm pretty quickly, and finds herself having to trust a whole new group of allies to help her on her quest. While the tone is definitely fun and quippy and full of epic one-liners, there's also enough of a maturity here in the writing to appeal to "bigger readers" like me. But the biggest plus for this book, at least for me, was the great cast of characters. Everyone was presented so well, and had inner lives of their own despite the POV being from Lyric's head. Such a well-done world. I'm so hooked on Elements of Five!
An action packed thrill ride with all the “feels”...
From Flame and Ash takes Lyric on an arduous journey through the Spirit and Lumière Kingdoms. She is really just a babe in this world, most of her new friends are at least two hundred years old. As the Spirit Priestess so much is expected of her, but all she is given as a guide are feelings, nightmares, and a crazy old guy.
As Lyric evolves or comes into her powers we are given a front seat into her mindset and I think she longs to belong to this realm. She is also searching for her soulmate, but knows that is not the important part of her trip right now.
This story is all enveloping, this “world “ brought vividly to life. The action keeps coming, the angst is palpable, heartbreaking yet hopeful I couldn’t put it down till the cliffhanger end. Can’t wait for From Spirit and Binding!
The saga continues in book 2 of this page turning story. Lyric has lost so much yet gain abilities she never knew she possessed. As we learn more about this realm there are so many riddles yet to be solved. Easton will protect Lyric and Rhodes and Rosemund also need her. As more chaos ensues Lyric loses more people she cares for and continues to question her role in this endeavor to heal this new normal for her. Can’t wait for the next installment in the saga.
Wow this book needs more than 5 stars! Lyric has been back in the human world for a year training and reading up on the Maison realm. She has nightmares and dreams that really scare and confuse her. When it is time to go back, she is more prepared than she was last time. This part of the story was very intense as she learns more about the Obscurite Kingdom and the the Lumiere. The group she travels with is beset at every turn and not until close to the end do you find out who and what is behind it. Parts of the book are riveting, parts are heartbreaking and many times, you are holding your breath waiting to find out what will happen next. A stupendous second chapter to this story and now I want the next one. I got this book from the author for an honest review and I can't say enough good things about it. You won't be sorry if you pick it up. It does help to read the first story first, but you will catch up fast. Thanks Carrie for a wonderful story
I am struggling to find all the right words to describe how absolutely amazing this story is. I could not stop reading. If I could just keep saying OMG, I would. Talk about wanting more of this series! This quest to unlock all of Lyric’s elements has us visiting the other kingdoms as well as meeting old and new friends along the way. Can I just say hello Rhodes and Easton ! I was on the edge of my seat (okay really my bed ) the entire time. 💕LOVE 💕LOVE💕LOVE💕
This is book two of Lyric’s story and you should read book one, From Breath And Ruin first. As the storyline picks up, you are once again pulled into this complex world. I find it very easy to like Lyric and feel for her. The situation she finds herself in, her uncertainty, her struggles and the vast amount of emotions she is bombarded with, cause you to sympathize with her because it is simple to imagine yourself in her shoes. This series feature a well developed and engaging world. The characters are complex and likeable. The storyline offers a enticing combination of drama, magic, myth, suspense, intensity, action and deep emotions. In short, I thought this was an excellent book and wonderful addition to this addictive series. Of my own volition, I am posting a truthful review.
From Flame and Ash is the second book in the Elements of Five by Carrie Ann Ryan. The book is not a stand-alone and I would recommend starting the series from book one. I read From beath and ruin when it was released and still I had a little bit hard time to adjust into this world again. Just for the first couple of chapters though. The book ends with a cliffhanger and if you don't like that, my suggestion is to wait for all the books to be released before reading the series.
As most YA stories do, this book wandered into the waters of a love triangle. Lyric is attracted to Rhodes, even though we know that she is not his soulmate and Easton and it made me worried that it was going to drag for the rest of Lyric's story. Emory's name kept popping up and in the back on my mind, I had her also as an option for Lyric's love. For most of the book, I was just wishing that she would settle on one person, so I would stop rooting for (possibly) the wrong one.
I know I shouldn't have started with the romance stuff, but I felt like the story was focused 60% of the time on Lyric pinning for those two guys and 40% on advancing the story, hence the reason for the 4 stars. I would have loved to see Lyric learning more about the world she is in because it seems like everyone is keeping information from her. In my opinion Lyric should focus more on unlocking and controlling the elements than finding who her soulmate is. A little bit more focus on the secondary characters would be also a thing I would love to see. They are very interesting all of them and I feel like they have so much more to tell. I have so many questions about them and I wanted them answered.
I liked the story and especially the last 25% of it. Some things were heartbreaking and others made me turn the pages and reading as fast as I could. It was exciting and I could almost say that I am happy with them because they will make Lyric grow as a character and help her with her elements. Then I remember everything that was lost and it makes it very hard to say that. I deleted the happy sentence at least 3 times, but it was an essential part of Lyric's journey.
Overall, I would recommend the book even though I wished for a less romantical turmoil from Lyric's part.

Absolutely excellent, this is not an easy journey for Lyric to live up to her potential as Spirit Priestess. There is heartbreak, a learning curve, and friendships of all different kinds. The start of the book was a little slow with a LOT of recaping from the first book, but is probably good for those that did not read the first, though I recommend that you do to get the full story and submersed into this world.
All in all this was a great installment and totally had me wondering what was going to happen next. Carrie Ann Ryan definitely knows how to keep your attention and drop in some MAJOR bombs. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book! If you like YA fantasy reads, Elements of Five is a great series for you!
PS: Thank you to Carrie Ann Ryan and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review!
Although Lyric has been living in the human world she has accepted that it is time for her to accept her fate as the Spirit Priestess and return to the Maison realm so that she can discover the woman she is meant to be.
She returns believing that it will be Rhodes who will help her uncover the powers she hasn’t discovered yet and because of her feelings for him it gives her comfort but she soon finds out that she was mistaken. Rather she will be training with Easton and the Obscurite and the feelings between them were not only inconvenient but could have deadly consequences.
Torn between two men and facing an adventure unlike any other Lyric will need to focus all her energy and attention to find out who are truly her friends and who are her foes. Now we just need to wait for the next book in the series to see what lies in front of Lyric.

This series is such a departure from what I know and love from Carrie Ann Ryan, but DANG. I LOVE THIS SERIES.
Lyric is a fantastic heroine, and her adventures along the way to finding herself are just incredible. The mythology she's built, the elemental components - this series speaks to my heart in so many ways. I was thrilled with the first one, but I actually think this one was better.
If you enjoy this kind of fantasy story, I cannot recommend this one highly enough!
From Flame and Ash is the second in a high powered epic fantasy from Carrie Ann Ryan. This story will beat you up emotionally and physically. I’m exhausted and anxiously awaiting the next installment.
5 AMAZING STARS!! Wow, this series keeps getting better. I was suck in from the first page to the last word. Lyric story continues and boy it does she put us into her world. I am loving this captivating series...I highly recommend it.
This book was received as an ARC from Author Collective 20 in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
After having read the book, I realized that this is the second installment of the elements of five series and I must say if the first book was just as exciting as this one was then, I must read it. Even though in the beginning it was hard to get into the story but, as the story progressed I really grew to love lyric and the tenacity she had through her training as a spirit priestess and the adventure she gets into with it. I have been still searching for my next series to fall in love with since the end of House of Night and I am very happy to say that Elements of Five night be the series I am looking for.
We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Book 2 in Elements of Five series by Carrie Ann Ryan This book is devastating a lot happens in last book and this does continue from previous but there is a slight break. Lyric comes back to human realm to take a break but she struggles to come to terms with what happen previously. Lyric returns to Maison Realm to begin her training to become the Spirit Priestess. I will admit that I listen to the first and third book in wrong order but still understood everything and things definitely make sense now once I listen to all books. Absolutely fantastic YA book but also have a fantastic narrators Bailey Carr.
The book started off one year after the events that took place in the previous book with Lyric running back to the human world after she got scared. Learning and seeing so many intriguing and overwhelming things while in the Maison realm, she knew her life would never be the same again. She'd lost too many loved ones.
Despite her losses, she knew that she needed to continue her training as the Spirit Priestess. She had a very interesting dream, one that only reinforced what she already knew. She had to go back to the Maison realm in order to unlock her remaining powers. She needed Easton (King of Obscurité), his loved ones and his warriors' help yet she wasn't making things easy for the young King. Just as she started to lean more about who she was destined to be. An incident threw her into another unknown journey, she had to really on the Lumière and Obscurité Kingdoms.
Easton, the new King and ruler of the Obscurité Kingdom had to make sure that his people were okay after what was done to them by a greedy and cruel knight. He had his hands full, he also wanted Lyric to get stronger for what was heading their way. The woman got under his skin and he didn't know how to act around her. So he came across as insensitive when all he wanted was get to know and protect her.
Braelynn formerly a human was now a polydactyl cat and Lyric's familiar, she was still her best-friend, come what may. I liked the relation Lyric and Rhodes had but I loved the dept of the bond she shared with Easton. Even though it was hard for her to read his emotions sometimes. They were facing a new threat, one they never expected. The foe was someone close to Lyric's friends, the betrayal, anger and devastation they all felt was done beautifully.
It was a delight to catch up with some old friends and meet new ones. Lyric's journey isn't over YET, I can't wait to see what awaits her and her allies next ;).
FROM FLAME AND ASH is the second book in Carrie Ann Ryan's ELEMENTS OF FIVE series. It was fast-paced, intriguing, alluring and mind-blowing. Carrie Ann Ryan did a glorious job! 5++++
****I received this book, without any obligation to review.****
This book is not a stand alone, so definitely read the first book before picking this one up. With that being said, I loved reading more about Lyric and this imaginative world. I was sucked right back in and devoured this story. Be prepared to have a hard time putting this book down. Definitely recommend it, but this story does end on a cliffhanger.
This is definitely getting added to my favorites list!!! I loved EVERYTHING about this book. I've really been jonesing for something paranormal or fantasy and this definitely gave me my fix! I absolutely LOVE how Carrie Ann has written this series. You really feel like your are amongst the characters and living in this realm. It doesn't feel like I'm reading anything that is fantasy either, because there's such a "norm" about the way she writes their life and world.
We were left on an edge with the last book. Not a cliff, but a firm edge. We weren't really sure where the story was going to take us. I love how we got to dive right back in, even if it was a year later. The transition was done beautifully! I was so excited to have Lyric go back to the Maison realm and figure out what her place is. She is so perfectly determined to help! The dedication she gave from the human world was so awesome. I love how she continued to train and learn. Seeing her grow was really beautiful. Then when she gets to the Maison realm, I was even more in love! It was as if she never left, and I absolutely adored the new characters Carrie Ann introduced. Wyn is definitely a favorite!
With this new transition also brought us more of Easton. I was super curious about this, and I still am!! There are SO MANY layers to Easton and his relationship with Lyric. We are sent in many spirals with these two!! Everything in the Obsurities Kingdom had me so excited. We met so many new characters and we learned so much. One of my favorite things about this series is the dedication of all of the people. These warriors are so special and believe so much in Lyric. Having that kind of support is so special, even if she doesn't always see it that way.
All of this being said, there are so many secrets and so many insane things that happened. When we finally met up with Rhodes and his family so much happens!!! Seeing Rhodes again brought so many feelings, I really felt like I was in Lyrics shoes with her!! With the craziness that his family brought, this book took an AMAZING turn!! Seeing Lyric evolve throughout these events was mesmerizing. I really NEED to know where Carrie Ann is going to take us next. There's a lot left out in the open and we aren't really sure where things go. I CANNOT WAIT for more!!!
Elements of 5 #2, This book pick up a year after Lyric returned home in that year she started college and trained with another person from the Maison realm. She knew it was only a matter of time before they needed her so she was prepared when it happened. Lyric has studied the history of the Maison realm and trained all that she can now she needs to awaken her other elemental powers. When she is called back it's not by her friend Rosemund and her brother Rhodes it's the new leader of the Obscurite, Easton.
Lyric learns that like the Obscurite the Lumiere has people against her and will do anything to keep her from becoming the Spirit Princess. Lyric and her friends, both new and old, must figure out who is behind this fraction that wants Lyric dead. New lines of the prophecy are learned just confusing everyone even more and Lyric deals with her new feelings for Rhodes and developing feelings toward Easton as well as learning to control two new elemental powers.
Overall, it was an outstanding book a great continuation of the series. Lyric's circle of friends and allies is growing but the cast isn't so large you get confused and with it being in first person it's easy to keep track of everyone with just the one POV. I love the action fighting scenes Carrie Ann Ryan is a wordsmith with description it's like a movie playing in my head it's so easy to visualize. She also does well when it comes to refreshing our memory on the events of the last book, but it would be best of the first book was read first. My only complaint is that Lyric gets a bit repetitive in her train of thought, I understand she's has a dilemma and is trying to sort through it but to mention one event over and over gets kind of tiresome especially when it's at the beginning of the book but the rest of the book is so awesome that it doesn't affect my star rating ( totally 5 stars).
This review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.
This book picks up Lyric's story one year after we left her at the end of From Breath and Ruin. Lyric has spent the last year in the human realm along with Braelynn formerly her best friend, once human but now a polydactyl cat and Lyric's familiar. As well as reading and learning the history of the Mason realm from the book Rosamond gave her she's continued her training with Aluraall trying to better use the elements she does have. She's missed the friends she made, Easton, Rhodes and Rosamond, she's corresponded with Rosamond but has had no contact with Rhodes or Easton. But her destiny lies in the Mason realm and the time has come to go back.
Her return to the Mason Realm takes her first the Obscurité Kingdom where Easton is now King. She spends time with Wyn, Teagan, and Arwin, Easton's personal guard training and learning to improve her wielding. When Lyric is summoned to the Lumiere Kingdom her new friends along with Easton decide to go with her. But along the way, it becomes obvious that things are not how they seem, and that not everyone wants the Spirit Priestess there. Lyric and her companions have to fight for their lives and the lives of everyone in the Mason realm, will they succeed?
While some questions from From Breath and Ruin are answered, many more questions are posed. There is so much more I could say but that would involve spoilers and I won't do that. What I will say is that both the writing and the narration of this book are excellent, I was hooked from beginning to end and am now eager to listen to From Spirt and Binding the next book in this wonderfully addictive series.
This is the 2nd book in this phenomenal series and you must read the first one before even starting this one!
This books picks up a year after From Breath and Ruin and once again you are catapulted into this new world where you are on the edge of your seat, unable to put this down as there is so much going on! I am very thankful for lazy Sundays.
These kingdoms have been at war for so long, they can barely remember why they were fighting in the first place. Its getting harder and harder to work out who can be trusted and who is an enemy. Lyric is the girl that they have destined it so be the Spirit Priestess, the one who can save them and unite to the two kingdoms. New friends are made to go with her old friends, Lyric brings out hope in them and gives them something to fight for.
I loved Lyric, this girl is amazingly strong having had the world as she knew it tipped upside down. She is constantly battling for survival against those that don't want her to succeed. Add in the fact that she is torn between Rhodes and Easton, and that everyone else seems to know more then her but wont actually give her straight answers, how this girl is sane I don't know.
Carrie Ann Ryan has done a phenomenal job with this series. Each book draws you in more and more, giving you some answers but raising more questions that have you literally on the edge your seat. The writing and pace of this tale is flawless considering there is so much going on. you are honestly immensed from beginning to end.
Now comes the wait for the next book From Spirit And Binding in July 2020!
