Loving the Texas Stranger

Rate this book
An assassin takes a shot and hits two people with one bullet.
Natalie Brewster, a deep undercover agent for a group that doesn’t officially exist, saw the gunman aiming. He definitely waited, lined up the shot, and tried to kill both of them. Nat and Case Garrison hit the ground bleeding. They both come up shooting and kill the assassin—but that just makes him mad.
Now Case and Nat, who have never before met, have to figure out what they have in common to make them prey for a killer.
And they have to do it while running for their lives because, despite the two of them being highly skilled at keeping a low profile, the killer keeps finding them. They are running at break-neck speed, hiding with all the skill of long-time undercover agents, and falling in love with a passion that might be part of what brought a killer down on them.

This book could totally be made into a movie! It has a Jason Bourne vibe where Case and Nat are both larger than life, skilled at things no normal citizen is skilled at, escaping nail-biting situations and outwitting deadly assassins at every turn. They have amazing chemistry and I really enjoyed the romantic tension between these two as they race to solve the mystery while still keeping their lives. I love how they are equally matched, and also help each other with the deeper issues that they've repressed and hidden. As much as I loved the previous three books, this one may be my favorite! The villains really took it up a notch, the humor and banter that connect Case and Nat in extraordinary circumstances, and the character development woven in with an intriguing nonstop plot gave me a can't-put-this-book-down reading experience!

"Quit fooling around and shoot back. Or take over and drive so I can do something."

Mary Connealy has long been a favorite author for me and I absolutely love her inspirational cowboy comedies. But she shines in this new genre she has taken on and I have been totally captivated by them. Garrison's Law features members of the Garrison family, a Texas based crowd who take law enforcement seriously.

Natalie Brewster and Case Garrison are both hit by a sniper/assassin in a public place with one bullet. A bullet meant to kill them both. They are both undercover, Case, an ex-Navy SEAL and about to be retired FBI agent and Nat so deep she doesn't even exit. They hit the assassin but he lives and he is just angered and now comes after them with a vengeance. So do a lot of other assassins. They are being tracked and can't figure out how or why. Both Case and Nat have some seriously deadly skills and know how to survive attacks. In the middle of all this, they figure out they kinda like each other. But in order to proceed further with their feelings, they have to stay alive and that doesn't seem too likely.

This is not your typical Connealy book. She hits the ground running and the action never lets up until the very end. It will hold your interest till the very last word. Seriously full of action, a great crime drama that will stand up to any episode and beyond of Law and Order. I know there are two more Garrisons and I hope more will come out of the woodwork, maybe some cousins or something so this series can continue. Highly recommended.

This is another action packed installment of the Garrison's Law books. In the prior books, we've learned that Case Garrison works for the FBI but no one has heard from him in eighteen months. Case is finally done with the job that kept him undercover for so long and has plans to visit his family in Texas. Heading to the Metro in Washington, DC he is shot at, then hustled along by a mysterious wonder woman who helps him get away from a dead eyed assassin, though they are both shot in the process. As they go on the run they try to determine why they both were targeted. Nat Brewster is as tough as they come, used to difficult assignments and remaining so deep as to be almost invisible. As they move across the country, things keep getting more bizarre and dangerous. This is a good example of romantic suspense, though this series is so unlike Mary Connealy's usual books that I'm beginning to wonder if we should be worried about her creating such scary characters and situations.

I love, love, loved Loving the Texas Stranger. Mary Conneally grabs your attention with an explosion of bullets on the first page. These two tough characters are an unlikely love match. Chase and Nat (Natalie) are strong physically, sharp mentally and drop dead gorgeous. He’s FBI, she’s so deep in black ops there are no initials for her organization. Someone wants them dead and they must figure out why while avoiding attackers. There’s mystery, intrigue and lots of running and hiding in odd places. Such a fun read. I was delightfully surprised when the killer is revealed, and all the piece of the puzzle fall into place. This is book four of the Garrison Series. Each is a stand-alone but once I read the first one I had to read the rest. They can be read out of order. Mary Conneally continues to be one of my favorite authors.

I still enjoyed this story, although I didn’t feel like it was on par with the rest of the series. First, many of Mary’s books talk about the characters relationship with Christ or if they have one. This one was super vague on that. Also in the beginning of the book it talks about Case having a wife and child who have dies in a car accident. When he starts having a relationship with Nat it never comes up in conversation, which seems like a super strange thing to never mention 🚨spoiler especially once they get married 🤨🚨 Also Case talks in his head about never having anyone he wanted to stay alive for like Nat, again it seems weird he wouldn’t have wanted to for his first wife and daughter. Besides a few inconsistencies, the the almost overly romance based focus in the story, and a bit of vagueness I really enjoyed the story.

This book starts with a bang and the action is non stop! I enjoyed getting to know both Case and Natalie as they tried to keep ahead of the bad guys and figure out who wants them dead. Both characters are accomplished and talented in their fields, but they have to work hard to thwart those they have apparently ticked off. Will they make it out? I loved the constant action and the suspenseful story! This one is hard to put down, since there is so much going on! I look forward to reading the rest of this series, since this one was excellent!
I received this book through Just Read Tours. This is my honest review and is in no way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.

Case Garrison has just finished a case and is looking forward to some down time at home in Texas. Being shoved down some stairs and across tracks while being shot at doesn’t count as down time. Nat Brewster is the one who shoved him, and now both are on the run, trying to figure out how they are being found as well as who is behind it. Both have worked on secret projects. Fast paced story that has you turning pages to find out why they are being targeted and who some of the players are and how they are connected. We meet Steve, Peg, Millie, Lorenz, Prometheus, Sloan as well as a few others, as well as seeing Case’s family briefly. The action doesn’t let up until near the end.

The action began almost immediately upon opening this book and it continued throughout. I didn't even have time to think about anything much before Nat and Case were running from an assassin, and by then I was already pulled in for good.

Case and Nat were a great match, too. Afterall, who doesn't enjoy undercover operatives comparing stories and using all their cool agent know-how to save themselves and each other, repeatedly? I know I do.

The mystery of it all wasn't simple either. There were a lot of layers to dig through to get to the truth, and that kept the suspense going and the pages turning.

Great read

The 4th book in the Texas Lawman series, Loving the Texas Stranger, finds Case Garrison, undercover FBI agent, & Nat Brewster, deep deep undercover CIA operative, in deep trouble as a hired assassin shoots them both with one bullet--but fortunately misses all vital organs. The hiding & hunting is nonstop throughout the book. A page turner for sure. My only caveat is the lack of proofreading which would have caught the errors easily. Nevertheless, i anxiously await the next installment.

A sniper so trained that one of his bullets would take out the two. She shoved and pushed him down stairs on tracks, and a chance to kill the assassin. Blood is connecting them now to patch one another up, how are they connected to be a target ? He has been undercover with FBI. she deep into an undercover assignment. They are on the run, and now assassins are determinded to kill them, the chase doesn’t stop till the end. New venue for her writing, having read so many of her books, well done, action packed.

This book fills the bill if you want high suspense and a lot of unanswered questions. It's a whole book chase scene and although I'd really like to see characters who could solve the problems with their brains and not with guns it does the trick in keeping you engaged in the plot. There are 2 unddercover agents drawn together with a common enemy who is trying to kill them both. They are both bugged with tracking devices which takes some time to figure out. I'm not completely sure the ending got where it needed to be to answer all the questions, but the entertainment value was spot on.

Falling in love on the run

What a great story!! Twists and turns, hitmen, implanted devices, inhuman strength, and love!! These two characters are not what you think...both are pretty much super spies and not who you make an enemy of...but that's what some people did and then lived to regret. I love that these two who thought life would only be a certain way were able to look beyond and find happiness.

ebook version. Garrison series story. Case and Nat both highly skilled professionals but on the run together, trying to work out what the common bottom line they has between them. Fast paced, danger, couldn't get family or friends involved but had up close encounters with farm animals. Still thinking on my favourite Garrison character with Jim and Avery's maybe story to come.

Good

I found this to be somewhat dark. Very good but cold in parts. Probably my least favorite. Very adult in action, thoughts, and attitudes.

Spies

In this book, we finally meet the mysterious secret agent Case Garrison. Naturally, crazy people with a complex crazy scheme are trying to kill him. This story had a few more points of view than the last book. It took a while to see how all the perspectives fit together to tell the story.
