Oona Goodlight #4

Chalice and Blade

Rate this book
Grand theft and two murders.
A war that must be stopped before it starts.
This job just might kill her.

Empath and psychic Oona Goodlight hadn’t woken that morning thinking her life was about to change. Her life had already changed plenty in the year since she’d discovered a dead body at the ice rink and fallen in with the wizard, Diego Adair.

She certainly hadn’t expected to be asked to find a stolen chalice and help avert a war between humans and fairies. And for her mother and grandmother, who famously don’t get along, to go with her.

But the second part, discovering who murdered the Keepers of the artifacts and bringing the killer to justice—that might be not only impossible, but deadly.

Things have been quiet; Diego is with his family dealing with the aftermath of his half brother’s actions. Oona is also keeping to herself and working on magic.
When Oona’s parents show up, followed by three streams of smoke, things get interesting. It seems there are three artifacts that are vital to the peace between realms but two of them have been stolen. Charged with recovering a chalice that is hidden in the Fae realm, Oona discovers more about her background and must work with her mother and grandmother (Maurice the talking rat is also involved) to get the chalice. Diego and a companion are tasked with finding the missing dagger.
There is also the mystery of who killed the two keepers of the missing talismans and the Gate has been arrested for the crime. He refuses to talk to anyone but Oona and/or Diego.
The search for the chalice is only the beginning of the adventure in this book. There is a lot happening, some humour, some very interesting developments between all characters, as well as a lot of information about Oona’s family background and upbringing.
Again, this is well written with good descriptions of the different areas involved.
This is a really good series that is easy and quick to read.

This is the fourth book in the series and it was my favourite, but that most probably has something to do with the fact that I'm already quite familiar with the characters, and that the author chose this book to take the main character completely out of her comfort zone. Finally, we get the answers to most of the questions brewing throughout the series, however that does not mean I've had enough. Quite the contrary. I would really like to read more about Oona and her friends and family.
Although this book does not hit as close to home as the previous one, there is abundance of private and closely guarded personal information that floats to the surface, most of which mends relationships and decades of family feud. On the other side, parties are still coming to terms with the events from the previous book. Brilliantly plotted, with an amazing story line full of crazy adventures, new characters, and incredible, never before seen creatures.
This is the first time that Oona and Diego split up for a job and have to rely on other partners to solve mysteries. This created room for some unexpected alliances and partnerships. Oona embarks on an adventure to another world which was incredibly exciting to read. There are so many revelations in this book, and as I already mentioned, most of the questions get answered. Some answers were quite logical, but some were quite unexpected.
I love the author for giving Maurice a full blown featured role in this book. That was a special treat for me, considering how much I love his character. Overall, I love love love this series and I highly recommend it. Thank you Alexes Razevich for writing Oona Goodlight!
Although each book has an ending, they are best read in order as the more recent books might contain spoilers for the previous one, and there is the romance buildup. The reading order is: Ice-Cold Death (Oona Goodlight Book One), Barbed Wire Heart (Oona Goodlight #2), Vulture Moon (Oona Goodlight Book Three), and Chalice and Blade (Oona Goodlight Book Four).

Great series!

I flew through these four books in just three days. I really enjoyed them. I did notice a fair amount of errors but most folks most likely wouldn't, but I a proofreader, it's what I do. For most, the brain adds in what should have been there to begin with. The 'ly' on this word or a word skipped altogether here and there. There were not so many that it detracted from the story. I thought the 'quests' the main charaxterd went on were glazed over....a lot. There could have easily been three or four chapters for those quests alone, each one seemed a little anti-climactic in their ease but the richness of the rest of the story and the fact that this book is not riddled with sex scenes and gooiness made it all worth it for me.
