Josi

I was so lost when he found me.

A young man of no experience, not knowing what love was, but he showed me. He made me feel what it's like to be alive and opened my eyes to what the world truly is. I'm nothing without him and he knows it because he's nothing without me.

His words are often full of praise, of need, yet I know he deserves better. I need him. I can't live without him.
I'll adjust to what he wants.

And maybe, when he's ready, he'll show me just how much he needs me too.

Bishop

Before him, I lived my life with such rigidity that my shoulders were perpetually riddled with knots. I followed a strict code.

He's sweet and young and sees the world through a different lens which helps me relax. The rules I abide by are important for many reasons, but he makes me do things I normally wouldn't. Things I shouldn't, but saying no to him is not something I seem to be capable of.

To help him learn, I teach him the rules and punish him as needed.

They say love knows no bounds. That it doesn't judge and it isn't biased, but can it survive his recklessness and my proclivities?

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

❝ I burn like the sun, scorching and fierce; and he’s like the moon, cool and collected, keeping the ebb and flow of the tides in order.❞

‘ABATTOIR’ Is a dark romance novel by authors K. Larsen & Yolanda Olsen, this is Bishop's and Josi's story.

Confession time, soooooo I kind of went into this blind, like literally blind, so there I was sitting with my cup of coffee in hand, reading the synopsis for the first time, *Yes I'm that kind of reader* I liked the sound of it so was in my happy place
A love story about Josi & Bishop, ✔️✔️

BUT As I progressed further into the book I realised it’s M/M holy f#cking sh#t, it’s not really a genre I’ve read before, like EVER am I out of my comfort zone f#ck to the yes. Am I a prude!?! looks up to the ceiling, shrugs *GULPS* But pulling up my big girl panties I carried on.

50274334-1190668371083366-2097672992417906688-n

Bishop is a handsome much older distinguished man, he's got the salt and pepper hair going on, and with the perfect sexy crinkle around his eyes. He's the glue of their relationship. Then we have Josiah, he's the man child in the relationship, he's much younger, eighteen years younger to be exact, but he has a need to please and submit to Bishop on all levels. These two really do love each other and that really jumps out at you.

And then Oh god!! WTF!! Because progressing further into this book my insides got all twisted up over a scene, I wanted to jump in the book and grab the little monster, this was so much more than what I expected it was going to be, nothing's really going to prepare you for this book, it's dark, but not extremely so, it's kind of gritty, it's twisted and sick and it's beyond f#cked up, I don't know what else to tell you without divulging spoilers..

And lets just say it's not a book you'd discuss in your vanilla book club because they sure will look at you funny and maybe lock the door next meet 🤷‍♀️But anyways good luck..Hope your as sick as me and end up enjoying it as much as I did. And oh lordy I'll be kind of looking at our local butcher sideways from now on!!

This was really well written, you can't pick up where one author left off and the other came in, it flowed perfectly, you kind of connect with the characters hmmmm scrub that maybe not, I fully connected with the crazy ride these two took me on over anything else and I hope they co-write something else again in the future.

* Teaser used is off the authors facebook page *

This is some fucked up shit.

This book had so much potential. Everything worked. The writing is incredible, the characters are amazing, the sex hot, hot, hot, the chemistry between the MCs is off the charts, the content depraved. Just the kind that i love so much. I mean, look at title you can't go wrong with that kind of title. Yet! UGH!! It fell short! Why authors?

Everything was going good, we had the table set, the meal had arrived, then! then! the freaking book ended! poof! gone!

So many questions left unanswered. I got played. I don't regret reading it at all, i just wanted moooooore. Dear authors please moooooore!!!

First up, this cover is GORGEOUS. I love it!

Lordy, this book (lol)...This type of super dark "murderotica" is SO right up my alley. Strangely enough, if this were a movie, I would have been hiding under my covers. Go figure...(lol) I've been a fan of K Larsen for a while now, and I recently had the please of reading a short novella by Yolanda Olson (which I enjoyed a lot), so I knew going into this one I was in for one twisted and gory read...

description

And that is pretty much exactly what I got! I'll also just say it is a good thing I can't eat solid foods at the moment because I am not sure I could look at a steak right now let alone eat one. (lol) The writing was amazing. It was a relatively short book, so the story moved at a perfect pace. The plot was like a sexy horror movie. Engaging. Super dark. Super twisted. Super gross. The sex was smokin' hot and plentiful, and I loved both the main characters. Not a whole lot left to say about it. If you are a fan of dark, then this book will be right up your alley as well!

Josiah’s love for Bishop had no boundaries. When he started to feel the connection slipping away, he decided to prove his love the only way he knew Bishop would understand.

This was my first read by both authors and well, what a way to pop my cherry. I wanted dark and fucked up, I certainly got it.

And when he comes back to me—if he comes back to me—I’ll prove that I’m every bit the monster he is. It’s the only way to keep him from ever leaving me again.

Jos and Bishop were two fascinating characters. I loved being in their mind and studying their psyche. The supporting characters were equally compelling. The authors injected humanity into the characters, making me as a reader felt connected and invested in their lives no matter if they’re good/bad (in the eyes of normal society) or predator/prey. My favorite character was “the beast” which had minimal scenes but quite impactful.

Bishop’s desires are carnal and all consuming, whereas I’m more of a dreamer needing to feel loved.

Abattoir delves into the darkest depth of depravity. It would appeal to readers who could enjoy a story without being restrained by hard limits.

First of all, a good 95% of you who'll see this in your feed will not want any part of it. The content is beyond fucked up and if you have any limits at all, back slowly away. OK, now that that's out of the way...

There's a corner of my reading heart that is rather attached to "You're my little psychopath" ~ "No you're my little psychopath" stories, and there was a lot to like here. The authors did a great job with painting the MCs' personalities, chemistry, and connection with each other. In addition, the premise was damn fascinating.

But for the love of dog, my list of questions after reading the last page was LONG. It felt like it should have been part one of a series, because there was just way too much unaddressed. Leaving some stuff open-ended is one thing, but there were gaping holes here, and I.Need.The.Scoop.

So, I cautiously recommend it (again with the massive caveat that assumes it's your cuppa to begin with), if you're okay with the fact that you'll end up with questions. Many.

Bishop is an exacting man who appreciates the existence of order and ritual. Upon inheriting his family’s business, Bishop increased profits by modifying supply and offering top of the line products. Two years ago, a young spirited Josiah entered Bishop’s life and now he is ready to share everything with him.

“There are demons inside of Bishop and some desires aren’t so easily satisfied.”

What transpires is disturbingly dark as the characters redefine boundaries. Bishop and Josiah have certainly carved out their own niche, and with their contrasting personalities, they exude incredible sexual chemistry that leads to hot erotic times and a certain shared goal.

“God, just like that,” I breathe happily, as I take a fistful of his hair and begin moving my hips faster. I look down at him, and smile.”

In starting this book, I had an idea of the theme, but the actual direction exceeded my expectations. The best way to describe the landscape is suspenseful horror with erotic elements. While this story is not long, the writing is concise and effective in its conveyance of character development and impact. This writing collaboration felt seamless and is quite ingenious as to how they treated the subject matter.

Abattoir is a story steeped in horror, but also delivers emotion and a unique romantic connection between its main characters. This book would appeal to those who can handle cringe-worthy dark subject matter.

"I burn like the sun, scorching and fierce; and he’s like the moon, cool and collected, keeping the ebb and flow of the tides in order." >

I'm not entirely sure what to say. A warning. Yeah, that sounds good. A huge warning sign. Read at your own risk! I'm not joking, folks. This one is pitch black!

This duo held no punches, delivering a deviously crafted masterpiece! I'm still over here shaking my head. Like, what in the hell is wrong with me. The story written extremely well, telling a taboo, fiery coupling. The passion bled from the pages. It was sickly satisfying. I can't be judged for loving this. Mkay? And since there's not many dark M/M books to choose from, made me love it even more. Honestly, I don't know what category to file this in. Erotic horror, maybe. This book will have you questioning yourself. I didn't know if I wanted to continue at one point, yet I was impulsively turning the pages in awe of it's magnetism. The characters pushed their way into my head, leaving me unbalanced, and laughing like a lunatic.

"The monster has a name now. A face. A voice. All the things I never expected. I just wonder … does the beast bleed like the rest of us?"

I'd definitely say this is one of the darkest books I've read. With that being said, I highly recommend to lights out readers. Ones who like to push boundaries and play in the dark.

Josiah was young and full of life; he wanted to please his lover Bishop bound the consequences.  He was a bit insecure which caused him to try to prove himself worthy of Bishop.

Bishop was experienced and with a full business to run he didn't have time for games.  Except when he meets Josiah he never experience the feels he had for him and he will do anything to keep him.

❝ I burn like the sun, scorching and fierce; and he’s like the moon, cool and collected, keeping the ebb and flow of the tides in order.❞

This book was dark, and a bit disturbing at times, definitely a horror erotic kind of read but the mm romance in the mix was definitely good . The story itself was different which I found it interesting but is not for everyone due to some disturbing scenes. Told from dual point of view;  Abattoir delivers a very dark story about a unique couple who will do anything for their love.  Readers who enjoy dark horror stories and are not afraid of gore will find this book appealing.

There are so many good things I can say about this book. I went into Abattoir completely blind, having no idea what it was going to be about. Honestly, I'm glad I did.

This was by far one of the best co-writes I've had the pleasure of reading in 2018. The words flowed perfectly, I was never once pulled out of the story when one author took over from the other.

Abattoir is dark, twisted, and kept me constantly guessing on what was going to happen next. That's the best kind of book IMO, one that makes you think.

Bishop and Josi were a perfect duo that I personally would LOVE to read more about. Yolanda and K. Larsen knocked this out of the park.

What happens when two authors come together and create something so hauntingly outstanding that it leaves you speechless after you close the book? “Abattoir.” Yolanda Olson and K. Larsen created a deliciously twisted plot told from two alternating perspectives - one of Bishop’s and one of Josi’s - and I’m still struggling to point out which one is more messed up in the head. Yet, they managed to write the couple and their relationship in such a dark, fascinating way that I eventually fell in love with both protagonists (and it’s either a sign of some very good writing or that there’s something seriously wrong with me. Perhaps both). Their business is… well, Bishop owns an abattoir and sells high-quality meat online. His methods of killing are highly ethical. Sort of. The whole story is a meticulously-structured build-up which leads up to such a mind-blowing climax that you’ll most likely drop your kindle and whisper, “Did this really just happen?” to yourself. It’s steamy af. It’s depraved and agonizingly beautiful. It’s a story which is a true must-read for all fans of dark fiction genre. Get ready though, because you won’t soon forget it!

Our love is our bond, and that is fucking unbreakable.

This is one dark psychopathic read! And what does it say about me when I admit that I LOVED it. Not only the story but Bishop & Josiah too. While these two are really depraved, cold-blooded psychopaths they are utterly devoted to each other.
“I love you, Jos,” he breathed.
“I love you. So much,” I told him in return.

I highly recommend reading Abattoir, but having said that, IRL I would really discourage the use of internet butchers!!

I DNF this book because it was just too dark for me. Not being able to finish this book doesn't mean it wasn't good. I loved the chemistry between the main characters, and the co-writing between Katie and Yolanda was great. The writing style and flow were really good. Also the sex scenes were extra dark, steamy and erotic. If you think you are up for very dark and gory ride, then I recommend you giving this book a try.

There's dark and then there's the kind of dark that makes you sick to your stomach. This book is the latter.

Heed the warning for this book. I would normally consider myself to not really have triggers with books, but this found one and honed in on it. I cannot bring myself to decide how to rate this so I decided not to. How do you rate something that made you want to vomit and you enjoyed no part of? That's not to say Abattoir isn't well written because it is - it's just not for me, in any way, shape, or form. I finished it hours ago and my skin is still crawling. If you like dark books and can handle unfathomable levels of fucked-up shit, read the book. Just be aware that while it does contain a relationship, this is in no way a romance and will take you places you cannot ever unsee.

Trigger warning (MAJOR SPOILERS): .

Holy sh*t.

Katie and Yolanda wrote a dark fantastic, gripping, page-turning story blended with love and blood

You will meet Bishop and Josiah. They have a strong love connection from start to end that will make you melt. Like any couple, they have their moments and tests. Oh, the test to prove their love...holy bloody cow. Bishop leaves for a business trip to acquire something for his company and Josiah feels something is off this time and decides to show Bishop how much he means to him with getting him a surprise. I loved how the chararters developed and grew throughout the story. As a Yolanda Olson reader, you will know nothing is as it seems and what did Bishop aquire and what kind of surprise did Josiah have?

Their was nothing dull about this story. Katie is a new author to me and the authors wrote well together making the story seamless in the writing style.

There are strong themes in this story, so there is your warning however; keep reading! This couple has one hell of a story that is told.

This story is about Bishop and Josiah. They love each other. Bishop owns and runs a Abattoir. He is very good at what he does. But he leaves Josi alone for long periods of time. “Shopping” he calls it. Josi can’t handle being by himself for that long, he needs Bishop and he’s gonna show him how much he needs and loves him.
This is a co-write. A damn good one to. You can’t tell where 1 author ends and the other one starts. That’s how I like co-writes, it’s jarring when 2 authors write and you can tell where they wrote at. But this magical gory goodness made me forget that 2 people where going back and forth writing it. Of course this is not for the faint of heart. If you have read anything by Yolanda Olson then you know all isn’t what it seems. This is the first book for me by K. Larsen and she didn’t disappoint.

A complementary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I would say this warning from the author sums it up quite nicely:

"TRIGGER WARNING All of them. This is not really a romance. It will not elicit warm and fuzzy feelings."

I knew going in this would not be a "romance" and would be dark; this did not disappoint. I was prepared for anything and guessed what Bishop did for a "job" kind of early on simply because of all the secrecy and the non specifics.

If you like dark and non traditional stories you will like this. Josiah and Bishop are a couple, but only behind closed doors because Bish has a problem with public displays of affection and I believe he isn't proud to be gay (or bisexual). There is an 18 year age difference between them which at times is readily apparent and others not so much.

As twisted as it is, they love each other and will do whatever it takes to make the other happy. Jos wants Bish to trust him to be able to handle Bish's work, and Bish wants Jos to know and respect the rules.

In an effort to prove to Bish he is ready, Jos plans a surprise for Bish which involves their neighbor and the little girls "monster" which I was afraid I knew what meant and when I was right thought this story was taking place in a future reality, like maybe the Hunger Games but different.

I found this whole story intriguing. The ending has been the build up in the story and to see it finished...it was sickly fascinating.

But I struggled with the storyline the further I got into the book. I did finish. Because I am a not quitter. LOL!!! But I had to put it down several times and read something lighter. Lets just say. I finally found my limit when comes to reading. LOL!! This book was not for me.

Abattoir is the very definition of dark reads. And in the most subtle of ways. It took me a while to figure out just what business Bishop perfected, taking over from his parents after their death. Running Abattoir is his livelihood but it's the way he fills his orders that made me cringe. Yet somehow both Larsen and Olson made it almost palatable and the promise of a bit of M/M action almost kept me as distracted as their next victims.

Going in blind is definitely the way to go since everyone needs to have that OMG moment like I did. Both Bishop and Josiah seem pretty level-headed and actually have decent hearts. Their troubled pasts had clearly set them on the path to one another and their sexy times together was truly hot and worth the wait. But it's the vile and disturbing ways in which they deal with 'monsters' and 'animals' that almost had me running for cover.

Looking for that darker read that isn't too overly complicated or confusing? Then Abattoir is for you. Everything is laid out pretty simply and that low-simmering and diabolical nature of both Bishop and Josiah is both smart and precise.

Larsen and Olson write quite well together and I look forward to more from this new writing partnership. Perhaps the subject matter wasn't necessarily a 5 for me but the way they presented it in the clean-cut, no nonsense way that they did, is worthy of that higher rating.

Well done and 5 solid stars from me.

Abattoir is one crazy, messed up book and I loved it!
I don't typically read MM books but because Yolanda was an author of this book I knew it was going to be a mind cluster f*ck, as she writes them so well. I also love K Larsen's books and together these two are a powerhouse of depravity.
Josiah and Bishop are a duo of craziness, throw in some knives and blood and they become sadistic and focused S.O.B.'s.
I need a breather after this book. My heart is still pounding and racing.

...if that's not the most romantic ish ever...

I was JUST thinking the other day...you know, I would love a book about...

AND HERE IT IS. Yolanda reads my mind and gives me just what I need.

Another disgusting, borderline exploitative, case of MM torture porn masquerading as an exploration of the amorous psyche. Dub con is a genre that I only enjoy when the author manages to present me with a literary payback lavish and psychologically sound enough to make up for the suspension of disbelief all those so-called relationships between a weak-willed puppy and their bigger-than-life Dom inevitably entail. This was not the case with the present book, mostly due to the disconnect I felt with the (severely restricted) cast owing to the less-than-stellar execution. Mrs Larsen and Olson write in an awkward blend of wooden, pompous statements of the purple variety ("there are stars tonight, like most nights, but for some reason they seem to be shining more brightly. I think it's because the night knows my secrets now that I'm alone again. The moon watches over me and cares for me when I feel like life isn't worth living anymore", etc) and of very blunt sentences, viz. short, staccato, breathless sentences barely strung together, without the bite that this style imperiously needs if it is not to degenerate into boring delivery. Since the authors opted for present-tense, first person of the singular POV, viz. the most difficult technique to pull off reasonably well, it is small wonder that their book amounts to nothing more than a myriad very short paragraphs crammed full with fragmented thoughts and disjointed actions, the cumulative effect of which is little short of incohesive, and that the two ladies' protagonists talk, behave and narrate as so many dullards from beginning to end ("Bishop's desires are carnal and all consuming, whereas I'm more of a dreamer needing to feel loved" ~ "I wonder if he's thinking of me now the same way I'm thinking of him. I wonder if we're looking up at the same pink and purple sky, wishing nothing more than to be in each other's arms", etc).

This one is so far off the charts. It is not for the faint hearted or the squeamish. I have not read any of K Larson’s books (but I now will be) but I have read many of Yolanda’s book and this one is right up there. Josi and Bishop would have to be two of the most macabre and disturbed characters EVER....
and boy did I like them both. Behind there dark demons stand two of the most caring, thoughtful and charismatic men. How is that possible you may ask. Just pick up Abattoir if you dare.

I went into this book completely blind and oh shit, it did not disappoint!

I first heard of this book through one of the groups I'm in, I can't remember if it was K Webster or Natalie Bennett, probably both! Haha. I signed up for the ARC so damn fast on their recommendation. I couldn't wait to read this...

There is so much about this book that is fantastic! It's dark and gritty, it's romantic, it's so twisted, and it's just what I needed! Bishop and Josi are amazing characters, ones I would love to read more about. And the authors, Larsen and Olson, created a flawless story - written to perfection.

Abattoir is a super intriguing read. It's best to go in not knowing a damn thing, don't even read the synopsis. Trust me. If you love dark reads, this is one to add to your TBR!

Have you ever devoured a book and then questioned your motherf@cking sanity?!? Because I just did. I just giggled. Yes, giggled my way through this dark AF book. DARK AS F@CK! I giggled like a little girl getting her way. And you know what, I totally did. I ended this book with a huge smile and more laughter. It's time to see a shrink, no doubts. But if twisted is your thing, then do yourself a favor because...yeah. Oh and M/M too, it's like the winning Powerball ticket.

At this point I need to look for a shrink, but before I go...Happy Reading!😆

Even psychopathic killers can find love. Two twisted like-minded lovers celebrate Valentines Day.
The canablism didn’t bother me so much as the butchery. I had to flip through pages to skip the gore. But the seal-of-death for me was the female sex scene. Yes, it was pertinent to the story line, but throw a female sex scene into a m/m romance novel, is my biggest taboo.
