Rio's long journey finally comes to end in this volume where he finds out about his family's roots and the secrets behind his parents come to a light. This volume is a lot more personal-feeling as Rio confronts the dark truths of his parent's past and deaths, as well as an unexpected conflict with the locals that he finds himself in that gouges out the darker emotions within himself.

The first two volumes have hinted slightly on this but this volume bares it fully, leaving the reader a much more 3-dimensional view of Rio's character, unlike the previous two volumes that do paint him in a much more idealized light. In fact, one of the weaknesses of the first two volumes was definitely how "Gary Stu" Rio tends to be, so this volume paints a slightly more nuanced picture of him.

That said, the "perfect" aspect of Rio does come in to play as this novel also feels like part "village building" as Rio somehow revolutionises personal hygiene, agriculture, cooking etc. in the volume, although it's mostly mentioned in a throwaway sense. The author does try to make it more plausible enough with the setup, but it can still feel jarring enough for those accustomed to the previous volumes. I'll just leave it as a trapping of this genre's trends...

This volume also has the first serious romantic plot sprout between Rio and one of the new heroines introduced in the volume. While it doesn't bear fruit, I do like how the author decides to finally dip into it, especially given the age that Rio already is in the volume (after a few more timeskips) and doesn't leave the plot thread hanging by the end of the volume.

With this volume, this "prologue" arc of the series is finally finished and I look forward to see how the main plot hashes out, especially with a surprising epilogue that's attached to this volume's end.

Not much of a story and it got weird real quick.

This book had a predictable plot and the main character was made out as a perfect individual and there was no struggle at all. He can do everything. Everyone likes him or wants to be him and he can't lose a fight. It was even weirder with the assorted people who are set up as interested in the main character. You be better off not wasting money on this book as almost all of it was fluff without any real substance.

The story is almost perfect, but the characters......the main character is a Gary Stu, he has no weakness, can do almost anything, beats former chief of military in seconds like dude where's the power scaling?? And then comes his personality- started off as rebellious then turned into the definition of an overpowered generic MC, it's to the point that each time a character interacts with him, I can predict without even looking what his response would be most of the time. Don't even get me started with the side characters, it's like all men are trash except the MC(Except those food stall guys we see in earlier volumes I think) and every girl is a love interest and/or has a kind personality. According to the author this is supposed to be the prologue, I'm giving this series one last chance by reading the 4th volume, if it keeps the same flaws then I'm dropping it.
If I could say anything to the author then it would be: I think your story-writing is spectacular but please improve on your character writing, I request you.

Good story but different.

I was already to give this story a few critical reviews, but I read the After Words and found that my opinion had changed quite a bit understanding the nature of the story. It seems that the first three volumes in the series is actually the backstory for the main character. As with a backstory it is natural for them to be somewhat slow and more social oriented than action oriented. in fact this book contained only two small action scenes. But overall it is still a very good story and lays very interesting groundwork for upcoming stories.

Good story.

This volume marks the end of the “prologue” arc in this serie. So far a lot new characters are introduce, most of them well developed although some of them are a © Román Emin of previous ones. The main character is a little bit plain and not very original but common in this kind of books. Hopefully the story will keep thicken in future volumes.

Great

Yet another great addition to the series that I thoroughly enjoyed. We finally learn more about the main characters background, gain some new family and friends, and learn about some of the darkness and the main characters past. Once again, if you liked the previous book, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Too short

This book is too short for me. I read the book in about an hour and a half. That being said I can't wait till the next one. Keep in mind this is one is about Rio past. I won't give anymore away . See you next book

Enjoyable

Well the hero remains dense to the effect that he has on others. Awaiting a response from him is likely to be not what most people expect. I am awaiting the hammer to fall.

Goodbyes are always hard.

Man... That was an emotional ending. With the emergence of Miharu at the end there, I am looking forward to the next chapter, but man, I was rooting for Saul even though the outcome was obvious.

El personaje principal, Rio, por fin llega al pueblo de origen de su padre, y descubre la historia de su familia. No hay mucha accion.

Aqui termina el primer capitulo de serie. La serie como tal realmente comienza en el volumen 4.

this book was disappointing compared to the others. Almost nothing interesting seemed to happen. I don't think I'll be reading anymore.

So good

I am really enjoying this story. This volume did not disappoint from the second before it, and makes me anticipate buying the next one as soon as possible.

I'm sick and tired of reading authors that have little or no emotional intelligence and have a morbid motivation to promote rape/sexual assaults/torture/gore etc. This third volume has such a case for the main character and an attack on Rio's grandmother's home, his cousin and best friend. The author and some of the secondary characters talk about the town traditions of "night crawling" and rape of neighboring towns. I think all this lamentable episode could be completely eliminated from this light novel and it would not change anything. The same thing could be said by the treachery and murder/sexual assault+ of Rio's mother Ayame. If the author was kind or not sick in the head, he could have explained Rio's mother's death as a sickness, or an accidental death while "adventuring". To actually design and imagine rape/sexual assault/use of poisons and drugs to take advantage and murder takes a person with little or no ethical values. It is all the author's responsibility.
The author even makes Rio (self-loath and have a conscience attack) from doing the right thing, and beating the perpetrators of the sexual attacks. Promoting crime, apologies for criminal activities cannot be forgiven ever.
There is a little too many violent conflicts because of bullying, pissing contests and such. Almost every human the main character meets in this light novel is a fight to the death, and this lacks realism, logic and it doesn't make any sense.

作者@後記:Volumes 1 to 3 of this Seirei Gensouki series are actually a prologue, so to speak, and with the end of this volume, the main character Rio (Haruto) finally reaches the starting line of the story.
劇情進展如上所述的緩慢

主角每到一個新地點就要重新記角色
但還好這集不像第2集那像出現大量連存在都沒印象的角色
女角不是越多越好的!
