Fae are missing all over Boston, and apparently, no one else is suicidal enough to look into it.

Good thing Quinn MacKenna - black magic arms dealer and Fae half-breed - has been searching for a way to earn back some of Boston’s goodwill after almost destroying the city...twice. Besides, favors for the Fae usually pay dividends if you play your cards right....

As long as the Fae don’t double-cross or otherwise backstab you. But that hardly ever happens....

Thankfully, Quinn has Robin Redcap to back her up - between his skill at navigating Fae politics and his penchant for extreme, brutal violence, it’s a match made in Heaven. Or Hell.

But the only evidence they have to go on is a crime scene laden with ritualistic ingredients and blood - lots and lots of blood - leading Quinn to suspect witchcraft.

Except the witches are a tight-knit community who don’t appreciate Quinn’s intrusion - even when all she wants to do is help. Simply put, what happens in the coven stays in the coven.

The situation grows murkier and deadlier by the minute as Quinn finds herself cauldron-deep in a swirl of betrayal, conspiracy, and vengeance.

Especially when she discovers who is really stirring the pot, and that it might all stem from an unfulfilled promise made by a certain trigger-happy redhead regarding a certain magic-slinging wizard in St. Louis. And the Fae put pretty big stock in promises and agreements.

Double, double, toil and trouble....

This little oath-breaker is in big, big trouble.

Quinn is the newest antihero in the worldwide best-selling Temple Verse by Shayne Silvers. Join Cameron O’Connell and Shayne at the literary bar to sip a dirty cocktail of feisty Irish brogue - with an unhealthy splash of monsters - today!

Who Knew?

Once again an awesome book. How do they keep getting better and better ? Most series kind of fall off after the 3rd or 4th book. They all start to sound the same. But not this series or any of the series written by Shayne Silvers. When he mixes it up with Cameron O’Connell things explode. You never know what those two will come up with.
I recommend this book but if you don’t start with book 1 you will miss too much. Don’t skip a book either. You regret it!

So Silvers and O'Connell are hitting a very hard but brisk pace with the Phantom Queens, and I'm of somewhat mixed feelings on it. While the twists and turns, character development and pacing of the action are still fitting well and the overall feel of the novel matches the tone and developed atmosphere of the previous novels, the feeling of growing escalation is also being matched by an increasing sense of compression. Book 5, Moscow Mule had a similar feel to it, but it is even more prevalent here in book 6, and while we are hit with four distinct game changing details in this installment, the compressed feel and thus compressed sense of pacing takes away a good chunk of the gravitas that should come with them.

Part of Silvers and then later O'Connell's juggling act has always been balancing speed and quality. The Nate Temple novels were originally set to a more typical release pace, even as Silvers moved to writing full time and began the Feathers and Fire series at the same time. O'Connell's inclusion into the mix debuted with four novels in a quick release schedule and since moved to a similar pace as the rest, though the rest are now moving along at much quicker rates.

That the quality has remained despite the increasingly driven timetable of their releases is a testament to their literary talents and developed skill. It is entirely possible that O'Connell has simply chosen to escalate the pace of his writing to fall in stride with the developments Silvers has been making with his two series, but I'm at the point of wondering if its not stretching the overall arc for Quinn MacKenna a bit too thinly for how some of the plot points are being developed. One of the four aforementioned game changers in the book relates to one of Quinn's longest standing heritage questions, but is glossed over so quickly and with so little digestion for her or the reader for the plot at hand that it almost feels like it was penned in after the fact.

The book is not flawed for this, or lower in quality for it, overall it is another great installment and I'm as always looking forward to the next. But it does make me wonder if the constant escalation of stakes and increasingly grander twists and turns for the characters isn't starting to weigh on the natural development of the overall universe a bit. Even the characters themselves are starting to seem a bit numbed to how certain things unfold and given the quality of the series and the universe overall, I'd hate to see it start breaking down under over-saturation of dramatic plot developments.

Loved it!!

It's a bit hard for me to believe, but when Cameron O'Connell released the first book in this series, I wasn't sure that I could get into it. It's not his fault, Shayne Silvers sets the bar REALLY high. But the story of Quinn just gets better and better with each book! We finally find out who Quinn's father is and, boy, is it a doozy! Sorry, you will have to read it to find out; no spoilers here! Members of the Chauncery, kind of like a Fae ruling body in the mortal world, are going missing and they ask Quinn for help in finding them. Makes sense, with Quinn being a dealer in hard to find magical artifacts, she seems like the perfect person to find them. Her investigation takes her places she could never have foreseen when she agreed to the job. This story is filled with amazing characters that you thought you knew, and non stop action. Even a bit of possible romance thrown in the mix! You simply MUST read this book! I highly recommend that you try reading all of the books in the Templeverse in their respective order as there are tidbits thrown into all of them that make much more sense that way. It's not totally necessary as each series can stand alone; I just think it's better reading to read them in order. Brava to Mr. O'Connell and I can't wait to find out what happens next!!

Shayne Silvers’ Temple Verse is one of my absolute favorite urban fantasy literary playgrounds, and the Phantom Queen Diaries series that he and Cameron O’Connell have created to play on it is ideal. So now we come to the sixth book on that series, Witches Brew, and what can I say other than “wow”. Somehow these authors have managed to maintain the same exciting tempo and high quality - and sheer unmitigated fun - over the course of so many books. Quinn MacKenna, black magic arms dealer and Fae half-breed, may be in a bit of a bind this time around but I’d never bet against her - and having Robin Redcap to back her up (with his lovely penchant for extreme, brutal violence) doesn’t hurt at all. Nope, rather than betting against her I’d bet on having a truly enjoyable read. It’s what you call a sure-thing wager. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Witches Brew: Phantom Queen - Book 6

Quinn MacKenna (part human/part Fae) is more then just a dark arts dealer, but exactly what she is, isn't truly known by her or her friends/enemies.
This story is about her being asked by Hansel, Hansel & Gretel to help find members of the Fae community who have gone missing. Quinn is also hoodwinked, into helping find two witches who have dropped off the map, by Morgan Le Fay.
The story involves many different creatures, if you will, from many different worlds. It moves quickly, with all sorts of mayhem and is interesting, fun and upsetting at times, until Quinn and Max find where the kidnaped have been taken. Then the story goes dark and at times confusing, what else to be expected when humans, Fae, witches and Otherworldly beings come together.
Quinn learns even more about herself, who her parents are and a little more about her powers, but there is still a "hole" to filled. Many questions, still are unanswered, at the end of the story. Hopefully in the next book, Quinn will learn how to fill that hole.

Quinn finally figures out how to work her powers.......... No more trips using "Nate's Tiny Balls" LOL
READ THE SERIES TO UNDERSTAND THAT STATEMENT.
As always the Legends keep coming as do the plot twist, the amazing characters and the hilarious scenes. Quinn is in fighting shape and ready to take on the next job. She rather take the free drinks at her favorite bar but a coven of witches have other plans for her. She didn't expect the job to lead her to the name and information about her dad and a sexy male witch. She figures out her powers MOSTLY....and she doesn't even need to call Othello or Callie to transport her places.( No more tiny balls) Nate is going to flip his lid " or his round table" when he finally meets Lady Quinn...... And the hint of her possibly having a sibling.... Well drum roll please...I can't wait to find out who it is. Plus Quinn is flirting with a MacHotty in this one. Yep! I see Explosive and Firey thing in the future for Quinn. Great work. 5 magically steamy stars.

The 6th installment of Quinn MacKenna does not disappoint. Up to this point, the Templeverse hasn't done to terribly much with the Witches and now Cameron and Shayne have given us an entire book to work with for this flavor of Freak.

Quinn somehow finds herself in the employ of The Chancery to help some new friends and returning characters locate missing Fae. This investigation ultimately leads to Witches, not exactly the Salem Witches but not too far off either. Quinn makes a deal that leads to her going of a crazy rescue mission, finding out even more crucial information about her past, and yet again discovering that she is being mislead by someone she trusted and never expected to discover as part the people behind all of the Fae disappearances. This book will leave you feeling a great mix of emotions and hopefully they will be remedied by book 7, but knowing the writers you will probably just find yourself even further from peace and a happy ending but that is also what keeps pulling you in to the next book.

Quinn finally gets some answers she's been looking for what seems like forever, but, if course, this just leads to more questions! When she takes a job with Robin Redcap to search for missing Fae she ends up all over the place dealing with all kinds of creatures. There are surprise creatures/characters and some old favorites popping up but not as you'd expect. There are twists and turns around every corner, and not understanding her own magic isn't helping any. I will admit to some confusion at times and to having difficulty unraveling pieces, but that didn't detract from the story so it wasn't insurmountable.

Once again, Cameron and Shayne have brought us further down the road of the life of Quinn McKenna, and managed to keep us satisfied yet craving more all at the same time. As usual I walked away with my head buzzing and me wanting more more more!

Very well done, guys! Very very well done!

Another witty adventure in the Templeverse, featuring Quinn Mackenna, the hard-drinking Black Magic arms dealer who has been searching for her true identity since the beginning of the series. This one is not quite as densely populated with comical lines as some of the earlier books, although there are still quite a few.

In this book, Quinn plays detective trying to find out what has caused the disappearance of a number of Fae in Boston. She meets up with a sister and brother pair of witches – a Bruja and Brujo – and the Salem witches. Among the Salem witches is Morgan le Fay who seems to be serving as their head. She gives Quinn a useful hint or two about her parentage.

She also meets up with Dr. Frankenstein, his monster, and his apprentice, Ygor. Ryan O’Rye makes a reappearance, but not in a good way. And Quinn learns how to create Gateways on her own.

This is my favorite Quinn book so far, and each one gets better and better. I particularly like that Quinn is finding answers and that she’s changing and growing as a result of those answers. What a fantastic character ARC! The writing continues to be masterful, and Mr. O’Connell is a wonderful addition to Mr. Silvers’ team. The ending is perfect, with just a hint of future surprises. The storylines between the three series are rapidly bringing together a confrontation between the three branches, and that’s one story I can’t wait to read!

Looking forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book, but I also recommend you start at the first book in the series. It’s even better if you start with the first Nate Temple book, Obsidian Son, and read the books in the order Mr. Silvers recommends, which can be found at the end of each book.

Witches Brew - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A feisty red-headed MC, with untested Fae powers, missing Fae, treachery, betrayal, intrigue, supernatural danger, witches, wizards and an important mission all feature in Witches' Brew - Book 6 of the Phantom Queen series by the quizzical and imaginative Shayne Silvers.
Trying to keep a previous promise is most important to the Fae, so finding out what's going on and why some of them are disappearing without reason or warning motivates Quinn McKenna to push her burgeoning powers to the limit, before the evil mastermind behind the lost Fae becomes too powerful to overcome.
This unputdownable paranormal adventure is a fantasy not to be missed....get your copy today and prepare to be spellbound to the finish!

Fae are missing, a gruesome discovery lends to the realization that they are being killed. Quinn has been tapped to help find them when Robin Redcap enlists her help. Witch magic. Revelations about her parentage. Emerging magics that Quinn has little control over. And then the fae....long thought to be human, she now counts herself as part fae. Or is she?? A whopper of a twisty in the answer to the missing fae is revealed at the end. Great protagonist, this was a particularly good storyline, read them in order. And oh yes, this author is extremely prolific and you get multiple books a year in his 3 series'. They all have a certain reference/overlap in the series'. So good.

I’ve gotta be honest: I really like overarching plots, but sometimes I just want a self-contained book even if it is one that does contribute to that plot. And, this latest book in the Templeverse fits that bill. On to this book, we see Quinn being drawn into a gruesome murder, but as always happens, she gets neck-deep into trouble. To also be honest about this, I can’t really say too much as we are so far in the series, I don’t want to accidentally give spoilers. But I will say that I love the revelations made in this book, and I look forward to how this changes the dynamics between certain characters. Oh, and I think this series has become my favorite. If you are a fan of this series, you will love this! I highly recommend this! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

Those who follow Shayne's (and Cameron's) work know that he likes to hint at a character's backstory throughout the course of several novels, revealing pieces of it at a time. That is once again the case in this installment. Quinn has been called on by the fae chancery to look into the disappearances and deaths of several fae in the Boston area. The evidence Quinn finds points in one strong direction, witches. This sets her on a collision course with the infamous Salem Witches. Along the way, she gains new friends, new enemies, and huge hints about her past. But as with any good story, with answers, come more questions. Can Quinn survive long enough to ask them?

An amazing book full of witches, fae and magic.

Cameron O'Connell and Shayne Silvers have delivered a dramatic and exciting addition to the Phantom Queen series with Witches Brew. I love the growth and depth Quinn's character underwent in this book. This book packs a punch and has it all, witches, fae, magic, and fighting. Be prepared to not be able to put it down until the climatic end. There are several OMG moments throughout that will leave you begging for more. Bravo Cameron and Shayne! You never disappoint and always leave me wanting more. I cannot wait for the next Quinn book, or for any other book either of these authors will write.

This is the continuing storyline of Quinn. This episode is well-written, action-packed, adventure-laden, filled with paranormal characters, recurring ones and more background on our heroine. While this book packs a wallop and is fast-paced the writing team is showing the differences in style from Quinn's story arc and the Nate Temple stories. Truthfully, Quinn is not my favourite character and there is a more compact (for lack of a better description) aspect as compared to the Templeverse books. That said I still enjoyed it very much and found it entertaining. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review

Excellent

In true Templeverse fashion, Witches Brew generates nearly twice as many questions as it answers. This in no way implies that the story is some sort of cliff hanger, it's not. It's just that each book is but a small part of some overarching storyline known only to the authors. Each book propels the overall story forward, leaving hints and clues along the way. In the case of Quinn MacKenna, her character becomes more complex and absorbing with each book. The more we learn about Quinn, and the more she learns about herself, the more interesting she becomes. I can't wait to discover her final place in the Temple universe.

With the disappearance &/or ritual murder of random Faelings, Quinn is hesitantly tasked with finding the culprits. What? Black magic arms dealers can play detective if they want.
What we end up with is an insidious plot, the return of a frenemy, and a potential date, all while Quinn is learning the extent and ramifications of her powers. Trial by fire indeed. And, to be frank, she has no clue if she'll end up the victor.
Brew delivers loads of action, snark, and a couple of info bombs that rattle the foundations of Quinn's life. A story that is extremely worthy of immersing yourself within.

Loved this book!

I mostly read this while I was at work. It sucked me in during my break, and I just couldn't put it down.
The evolution of Quinn has never been as apparent as it is in this book. She clearly is a growing character.
The revelations made me say OMG out loud. Loudly. While at work. I got a few funny looks, but the surprises were worth it.
Every new book by Cameron or Shayne feels like a really great Christmas present.
I'd recommend this series if you like Urban fantasy, strong female characters, or just want to read a well written book.

I like the author, and I enjoy the series. I just don't think it belongs with the Nate Temple series. The two Authors have taken far too long to introduce Nate into the series and the feel of the main character doesn't feel like she will interact with the other characters. Especially when she keeps saying to herself that "She doesn't play well with others."

When I read the first book in the series, I could immediately see her as one of Nate's new Riders, but now? I can't see how the two authors are going to resolve this problem without Nate or Quinn killing each other.

Another Stellar TempleVerse Novel!

I’m a reader of all fantasy genres, stories of earth past preset and future and of other realms. the TempleVerse novels have such a unique stance on combining old myths, stories, and fables in a more realistic adult version in a modern earth and other realms. Action, suspense, humor, adult themes, magic, told through such relatable characters with well-written dialogue. What more could I ask for in a book? These are simply perfect! Read them all!

Ohhhh. Now I get it. Whilst I love all the Templeverse Characters, Quinn is my favourite. I understand her completely. That feeling of gripping your wild side, tight around the throat, to make it quiet, and not let the psycho loose, is what happens when you reach adulthood. It never really goes away. It becomes easier to know when to let her out though. I enjoyed this a lot. I can see Quinn growing up. It's a rough ride.

Excellent as always!

This is book 6 in the Phantom Queen series. We finally find out the secret of who Quinn’s dad is but it brings even more questions. There was several major twists that I did not expect. Urban fantasy, NO reverse harems or stupid love triangles. No cliffhanger either although it will leave you hungry for the next book. Quinn has evolved so much over these books and I love it! Can’t wait for more!!!

O’Connell and Silvers have done it again!

Another great book in Quinn’s story! I was so engrossed in this installment that I finished it in less than a day! Quinn has really grown into herself learning about her new powers and getting some answers on her family history. Cameron and Shayne have done an excellent job answering some questions while leading us to ask several more. I’m excited to see where Quinn’s story goes from here....

Hmmm...

There were several twists and turns and of the plot, along with a couple of surprises on the introduction of new characters. I was surprised to find that I felt the book fell kind of flat in a number of places. However, I have faith in these authors, and I am sure that I will soon be banging my head on a wall, wondering why I had seen whatever coning.

I still recommend that you read it.

One Step Closer...

And it seems Quinn's about to break. Break through the walls of her defenses as she grows into the woman and the power she is meant to become. More questions arise but seeds are planted. Her history and her future are about to become entangled, and I can't wait to find out if my predictions are correct. Another expertly crafted tale by the masters of the woven word!
