365 Ways to Find Peace

Rate this book
No other book contains such a wide range of accessible, effective and inspiring self-calming techniques, drawn from traditions and literature from around the world, both secular and religious.

With a different meditation or inspiration for each day of the year, this is a wonderfully inspiring collection that will open readers' hearts and mind and show them the way to peace and contentment whatever their mood or situation. A fresh, attractive design featuring sympathetic line drawings adds to the appeal of this gift package. Author Marcus Braybrooke has drawn upon poetry and prose, sacred and secular, from all around the world and from all ages, from the Upanishads and the Tao Te Ching to the speeches of Mahatma Gandhi and the great 19th and 20th-century poets such as Walt Whitman, Rainer Maria Rilke, Wallace Stevens and Seamus Heaney.

The inspirations and meditations are arranged thematically, following a structure that reflects the idea of love radiating outward - from self-esteem, the acknowledge of spirit within oneself; through love for family and friends; through love for humankind in general; to love for the One, the spiritual essence that animates all existence. Readers can choose to follow this order, or dip into the book at random, or select an area that they feel particularly drawn to work on. Containing the wisdom of all the world's great spiritual traditions, this is a book that will appeal to people of all faiths, as well as to those who believe in spiritual values without subscribing to a particular religion or even belief in a divinity.

RATING: 4 STARS
April 2019; Watkins Publishing

I have not officially read this whole book, as it is passages/quotes/paragraphs that you read to calm your mind. Essentially, it is meditations/affirmations for each day. For me, when I am in a panic attack or high stress I like to read poetry to clear and calm my mind and settle my heart rate. I love that there is something already set up. So far, I have been trying to read one before I fall asleep. I will update my post at the end of the year. I would recommend you either first take a look at a sample (if provided on sites like Amazon), or flip through a copy at a book store or library and see if it is something that would fit you.

This is a short book of 365 meditations on the search for inner peace. Something to read in one go but also dip in and out of dependent on mood.

Looking at the printing style I had this on kindle but I think it would work much better as a paperback/coffee book. It has a lovely calming colour palette as well. Really enjoyed flicking through this

365 Ways to Find Peace is not a book on techniques as the book description suggests. It is a book of 365 quotes from people throughout time and the world. Each ‘way’ has the quote, who said the quote, the year of their birth and death, and where they are from.

The quotes are in different sections which include:
The Centre of Being
The Inner Circle of Love
The Outer Circle of Spirit

This book can be read as quickly or slowly as you want. You can read it in the groupings or focus on one quote a day. This one was not really for me as I was expecting a different book- one that give various ways to find inner peace (like 365 Ways to Beat Stress did). I did not want to read a book of quotes. Because of that, this one missed the mark for me.

Special thanks to Watkins Publishing for sending me an arc copy to read and review via NetGalley.

365 Ways to Find Peace by Marcus Braybooke is a self-help book.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Watkins Publishing, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis:
This is a compilation of inspirational quotes, poetry and sayings grouped together by theme. They are from authors of different eras, different religions, and different countries. Authors include Ralph Waldo Emerson and Jack Kerouac, Mahatma Ghandi and Mother Teresa, The Bible and The Koran. The list goes on. All sayings are aimed to bring the reader a sense of calmness and peace. One for every day of the year.

My Opinions:
Unfortunately, this was not what I was looking for.

I have no problems with the quotes. They are a nice collection. However, that is all they are.  They lacked any discussion around them, and therefore I found myself just reading one, and quickly going on to the next, without giving them any serious thought. It may work for some, but did nothing for me.

I was looking for a daily inspirational reading/meditation, but this came up short. Hopefully this collection will work for you!

This is basically a collection of quotes and thoughts put forward by some great personalities in regards to finding peace, within and around you. While the quotes selected are great and all, I wasn't expecting only that which is why I was a bit disappointed. I was all the more heartbroken because the palette is so aesthetic and calming, and look at that cover! Maybe a few techniques and practical approaches could've been added to make it a more balanced self-help book "to find peace" rather than just a book with quotes about peace. I do recommend this if you're only looking for a good collection of quotes to help you start/end your day with for the next year but if you're looking to actually read about ways to find peace, then start looking somewhere else.

Disclaimer: I received a digital copy of this via Netgalley but that, in no way, influences my rating and/or thoughts about it. Thank you, Marcus Braybrooke and Watkins Publishing!

This is a book of 365 quotes. This book really did not help me find peace. It is an interesting collection of quotes, some are motivational but just reading a book of quotes does not help me find peace. If you enjoy reading quotes then this may be a book for you.

I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

This book has some good and bad suggestions. Some are doable and some are ridiculous. It's not really different from other books with similar ideas. Just a rehashing of the same stuff. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Watkins Publishing for an e-Arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is a lovely small book that can be read one quote a day or in one day, I liked that there are quotes from different places and cultures.
I'm not going to lie I expected something else, actual ways?, but overall I enjoyed reading the book.
I found some great quotes that I like, there was also some that I didn't understand at all.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Watkins Publishing and Marcus Braybrooke for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.

This book contains 365 sayings from around the globe, from all different sources. You have Buddha to Bhagavad Gita, the bible, the Torah and the Koran. From Eastern philosophies and Indian philosophies to ancient philosophers like Dante, Aristotle and Plato. Poems and sayings from other folk who we have come to see as wise like Thich Nhat Hanh and Anne Frank. These contributions include poems, sayings, -isms and short stories, all around the idea of peace.

This is the kind of book that I usually gravitate towards. Something that I can pick up and read at my leisure, either a few snippets or whole sections. Something I can come back to over and over again. With all of these wise sources you would think that there would be so many little gems. Many of the sources I know and have read their works before. Most I admired, not all, but still there is so much wisdom to pull from. Unfortunately, I personally did not relate to most of what was in this book. I didn’t find the quotes inspiring, thoughtful, meditative or peaceful. Some confused me and I just kept thinking with all the wise things these people have said, this is what you chose?

Sorry, this is a pass for me.

Thank you Watkins and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

If you are looking for a collection of quotes to read, this book may be just what you are looking for. If however you are looking for ways to find peace you may be disappointed. This is a collection of 365 quotes relating to peace. A pleasant enough book to open for inspiration but I felt the title amd premise was misleading.

Thank you for this ARC in return for my honest review.

More or less a big collection of though and quotes about peace of mind and peaceful/calm attitude. Some people may find it useful to let it on their coffee table or bedside and read one each day to help them start in a good mood. Personally not really my style, but I understand it can help some people and it's as well done as it can for this type of book.

This book provides 365 quotes, arranged in general themes. While many of the quotes are truly inspiring, I'm not sure the title of the book sits quite right. I think it is more 365 'thoughts for the day' and wasn't always sure of the connection to finding peace, other than that they are wise words which, if heeded, could lead you towards living a good life.

What I really like about this book is that after each quote, we are given the dates of the writer and also the country where they live(d). Many of the writers were known to me, but others were new and it made such a difference to know whether they were writing 1000 years ago or are still alive today.

I had a slight technical issue as I wanted to read the book on my Kindle and the use of pale green and grey text meant that it was not at all easy to read as the text was so feint. I read it using the Kindle app on my Ipad and that was a lot easier. I think this is probably a book to buy in hard copy so that you can pick it up and flick through.

If you are looking for inspirational quotes you will not be disappointed by this book, but if you are looking for something that provides more specific advice/guidance on working towards inner peace it is probably not the book for you.

My thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for a review copy of this book.

I don’t really know what to say about this book, to be honest, because I don’t understand its purpose. The book is a list of organized quotes and poems from topics ranging from love, nature, faith, happiness, and the like. From what I understand from the title, the reader should use the quotes to meditate(?) somehow. So I need a “how to use this book” type intro here.

Understand that the version of this book which I read, doesn’t have an introduction... or what I could consider an introduction. There were a number of quotes which I very much enjoyed. If I can figure out how to connect my Kindle and Goodreads apps to notes, I’d ver much like to share them. I pulled a total of 15 quotes with some annotations. My favorite of which comes from a section titled “Everyday Love” from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (you know him c/o The Little Prince): “Life has taught me that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.”

I think this text may serve a better use as daily calendar. Each quote/poem requires time for reflection, and a daily reminder may be the best way to deliver that.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC. I receive an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I wouldn't say this book is full of meditations and inspirations like the description states, but it is full of great prose, poetry, proverbs, and quotes that encourage thoughtfulness and peace in one's life. This book is great for people who just need a little something to make thing think positively and drown out the negativity they may deal with each day.

I voluntarily read and received a free ARC copy of this title through NetGalley in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have been using this book for a couple of months. I like reading the quotes and inspiring words that have been provided. I have been using this book in companion with my own personal journal. It is giving me something to focus on and helping me clear the dark places in my mind and replace it with light. That is something that I need. I am glad this is a book I can go back to when I need it.

I did not enjoy this book. It was not what I thought it would be at all. It is literally 365 quotes or poems from all different resources. I envisioned the book being about what the title implies, ways to find peace, but the poems and quotes in the book do nothing of the sort.

I received am e-ARC from Net Galley of this book.

I love reading complications like these. Most were really good while some are somewhat vague in my opinion.

The date and the country the authors are from was a really nice touch.

As a full time carer for my mum who is diabetic, has Menieres Disease, arthritis etc for ten years and then more recently my dad who has mixed dementia which consists of Vascular & Alzheimers, I am er. . .busy and naturally get stressed. Added to my own health issues I am always looking for ways to feel peaceful or de-stress so when I came across 365 ways to find peace I thought it may be helpful for me to read it.

The byline says, "meditations and inspirations" and that made me even more eager to read the book. The cover is a colour that is often used to represent calm and peace and features what I would say are koi fish and to symbolise calm well.

The genres this book falls into are self help, and I would also put it into the gift book category.

The book consists of different things well known people have said such as,

"A DROP IN THE OCEAN, We ourselves feel that we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if that drop was not in the ocean, I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." - Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 1910-1997, India.

And the following second example.

"COMPASSION, If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete." - The Buddha c.c.483bce, India.

This was quite interesting to read as an ebook, but personally I think it would make a brilliant gift idea for someone. As I think a physical copy of this book would be easily dipped in and out of on a daily basis throughout the year.

I"m not sure what I was expecting with this book, but this wasn't it. The book was a nice collection of quotations from various sources about peace and living peacefully. I think I was expecting more ideas on how to find peace in a busy world.

It was a good collection, but nothing new that hasn't been done before.

Beauty contestants spout it. World leaders talk about it. Social activists display placards for it. Writers pen their hopes for it. World peace. This book opens with a promise to help readers find peace or some semblance of peace in this often troubled and tumultuous world. Its basic premise is that we all need reminders that "deep stillness and tranquility" is possible. So the author combs widely for snippets and ways to find such peace. With this search for tranquility the main purpose, editor Marcus Braybrooke draws inspiration from multiple religions, philosophers, sacred books, poems, parables, songs, hymns, selections from cultures that range from East and West. All in all, there are 365 writings. Some are as short as a single line while others are as long as a full page.

The 365 selections are subdivided into three categories:

The Centre of Being;
The Inner Circle of Love;
The Outer Circle of Spirit.

Part One is based on the premise that self-love is a vital foundation for relationships. Admitting that it may seem to be self-centered at first, Braybrooke asserts that it brings about a stability that is needed for the building of love outward. The selections are based on elements of true self; self-esteem; inner strength; stillness; inner wisdom; giving; thankfulness; attentiveness; humility; simplicity; wonder; etc. These are the virtues for cultivating a being that is secure and tranquil. Part Two moves on to the Inner Circle of Love, which covers topics of empathy; selflessness; compassion; friendship; family; etc. There is a bigger element of community and loving others. Part Three is about "Outer Circle of Spirit" which moves beyond the physical realm toward the transcendental.

My Thoughts
For an eclectic collection of works from such a diverse group of people and perspectives, it is hoped that some of these would touch the general reader searching for meaning and peace in their lives. Some readers might try to go through the book thinking that they would find peace. Not all the works could do that. Maybe a few snippets of inspiration might help settle our restless minds. Also, it depends on the readers' personal faith and background. It could be uncomfortable for those who hold a different religious perspective from some of the contributors in this book. For that, I would urge readers not to give up on the book entirely. There are good things to learn from, even though some may not meet our expectations. If something works, then its good. If not, simply move on and not feel too troubled about it.

What is helpful for me is to recognize the diversity of views with regard to the words peace and tranquility. I am aware of the many different definitions of what true peace is. For starters, just see this work as an effort to bridge the gaps between different perspectives, religious thought, and desire for world peace. There is no one size fits all and this book definitely didn't purport to play that role. The hope is that in the reading of these book, if one could find a way toward the peace that one seeks, it would have been a worthy read.

Rating: 3.5 stars of 5.

As I said before, I'm absolutely not into self help books, I just got this as a recommendation and because I found the other in this series interesting. Many counselors have told me that important to read about the actual tecniques recommendated to find peace, I'll keep reading some other ideas and figuring out what is useful to recommend with others, always triyng to talk truth and go deep with the root causes of their lack of peace. I have not finish it all but have more thank 300 days to do it... I have never read this author before, I'm curious about him.

I was hoping to understanding a bit of life with this book but it was a disappointment instead. The format was rather odd and honestly hard to read through. It's a collection of quotes taken from others and put into one book, no addition to it, a long list of other's work.

As for reviewing said quotes, the quotes either brought me no emotion, confusion, or anxiety. There were five of the 365 quotes that actually help me find peace. I honestly wouldn't even recommend reading this book as a copy from the library much less buying it.

One of those books that you should dogear, return to, bookmark and use to improve your life. I certainly will be revisiting it when I need reminders of how to reduce stress, meditate and generally make life more manageable. Well written and one that I would appreciate on my bookshelf in paperback when it's published in April. I'm grateful to Netgalley and Watkins Publishing for the opportunity to review in exchange for an honest review.
