About the author

Ellen Carol Dubois is a distinguished professor of history and gender studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her bachelor's degree at Wellesley in 1968 and her Ph.D. from Northwestern in 1975.

Easily the most comprehensive account of U.S. history through a gendered lens. One of the few textbooks I will be keeping & revisiting

I read this for a class, Women in US History, and loved it! It gives great perspective of the history of the US from before Europeans arrived to 2015, discussing life and experiences women went through, including African Americans, Native Americans, and other minorities. Reading this book gave me a better and more well-rounded understanding of our past, and as a future History teacher, I find that invaluable. This will be a fantastic tool and reference for me, especially with all of the primary sources included in each chapter. Highly recommend!

Even though this was required reading for a History class, it is still an incredible book with rich details about the roles women had in U.S. history. From Native America through 2016. Great book with tons of badass women you didn't even know about!
