Annie West, you did it again. You took a hero I was prepared to hate and made him a man I fell gaga over. I was thinking that Raul would be way too arrogant, entitled, remote, supercilious, and unlikable (but why did I think that since I've loved all your heroes?). Oh no. I think it took about ten minutes into reading this book for me to see the appeal of Prince Raul.
Let me preface this by saying I really don’t get that into royalty romances (except the sheikhs..class of their own). I don’t expect to relate to Harlequin Presents, but I really can’t relate to royal romances. But that’s not an issue at all with this book. Because this royal couple are just a man and a woman, falling in love. And it was a beautiful love story to read about.
I read this book earlier today, and then I read another book in which I was given the polar opposite of Raul (but we won’t go there). Raul is a freaking prince, heir to a Kingdom, and what a man (in every sense of the word)! He's thirty years going on sixty (more like a Sylvester Stallone sixty, mind you). Tradition and duty was drummed into his head since he was four. His entire life was lived in the public eye, and he was careful to keep control and to plan everything out, not feeling deeply. When he finds out that he will lose his kingdom if he doesn’t marry Luisa, he will do whatever is necessary to see that happen. And he is rather ruthless about it. He doesn’t expect to admire, desire, and deeply love his reluctant bride.
This is one of those stories that keeps me reaching for Harlequin Presents. All the passion, drama, exotic locations, with characters that I love and want to see fall in love with each other.
Luisa was such a sweet, wonderful woman. She was strong in a way that made her very accessible to me as a reader. I could see her insecurities and identify with them. I could see how she fell for Raul and wish her happy with him, hoping he would treasure her for the unique aspects that made her up, and not try to change her. She wasn’t confident of her abilities as a future queen, but she tried her best and stayed true to herself. The last thing she wanted was to go back to the country where her grandfather lived, after he rejected her mother and Luisa herself as unfit. But she did it to save her family and friend’s farms from foreclosure.
The love scenes were great, and I especially liked the wedding night scene. That was pretty hot! I could see why Luisa found Raul very hard to resist. I certainly can’t blame her!

And I admit, for a girl who never went through a princess phase, the coronation scene had me sighing breathlessly, wishing I was the long-lost heir to a principality with an arranged marriage to a breathtakingly sexy prince like Raul.
I have gotten somewhat picky about handing out five star ratings lately. But this one definitely earned it. It was very romantic and emotional, and I loved the characters. When a writer has a down-to-earth girl imagining her coronation to her very own Prince Raul, she has definitely succeeded in writing a five star book.

Aww, this was really sweet. I'm not a fan of royal romances, but this story won me over. The heroine is an Australian farmer and the last heir on the royal family tree. The hero is a prince who is contracted to marry whomever is on that family tree. The hero buys the mortgages on farm and uses foreclosure as blackmail to get the heroine's agreement.
The rest of the story is how the heroine adjusts to her royal duties (very well) and how the prince, with the standard issue bad childhood and the betrayal of his girlfriend with his father, learns to love.
I was happy this heroine was a competent farmer - unlike LG's heroine's who go broke rescuing donkeys and not charging enough for their wares. Heroine manages to translate that competence and vision to her royal duties.
The hero was the first to say I Love You and his heartfelt declaration at the end was really touching. He was a great hero and so was the heroine.
Just a nice story all around.

Prince of Scandal is a very well written HP. Raul blackmails Luisa who runs a farm into marrying her. As usual there is a legal contract involved, in order to inherit his throne Raul needs to marry Luisa. Luisa's mother was royalty when she gave it all up to marry Luisa's father. Luisa's grandfather was a bitter man who threatened to dis-inherit her and years later tried to turn Luisa into a perfect princess. So, Luisa holds a very negative view about royalty and the privileged. The first time Raul lands on her door-step she sends him packing, and when the next time he comes calling she accepts because of the people she cares about. Typical HP right?Heroine makes the sacrifice to save her loved one's?But Luisa has fire, she refuses to follow the dictates of Raul. Raul is the perfect royal and after what his father did to him and his country through his actions, he is determined not to make a fool of himself over a woman. Luisa slowly adjusts into royal life and Raul gets used to her. The "gift" he gives Luisa in the end was sweet. A good HP.

I thought I would like this book but I didn't...at all. The heroine was extremely insecure like constantly doubting the hero's affections when he was nothing but nice to her. Plus she realized she was in love with him in maybe the last chapter. Other than the heroine whining non stop there wasn't any angst or tension between them. Not my idea of a romance.

I'm with Jenny on this one. The heroine's insecurities were an-noy-ying.
It made no sense when the writer spent so much time showing us what a spunky, lovable, independent, intelligent, tender-hearted woman she was and then turned her into a whiner about how she was always second best to his royal duties when he has done nothing but support her in her first tentative steps in claiming her princess title, standing up to her detractors and was NEVER a dickhead or a swine despite his negative experiences. I adored him. One of my favourite modern HP Heroes.
But it was great for a while. I usually stay away from fake kingdom novels but this one was written in a such an authentic way, I could almost believe in its existence.
So it starts off fine. He's in a helicopter landing on her Aussie farm ready to drop a bombshell that she is now the surviving heiress to one of the provinces of his country. He doesn't tell her the other bit yet, that she is also his bride-to-be. Thanks to an unshakeable clause in the father's will, he can't become king unless he marries her.
She has her own negative experience with the country thanks to a visit years ago and a failed love affair with a conniving trickster. Her heartless grandfather had also cut her mother out of her inheritance so she couldn't have access to better medical care when she was ill. She died and her husband soon after. Heroine is now left with an ailing farm and debts piling up but she still flat out refuses her title and throws the H out.
He pretty much blackmails her into agreeing by buying out her debts and she is left with little choice. AW does a good job in showing their clashing personalities, their growing attraction, her adaptation to royal life without losing her spine or personality and his determination to be a good husband and leader despite his past scandal
There is some nice steam between the leads but it veered into repetitions of endless internal musings of his guilt at forcing her hand, her doubts and just generally being a Debbie Downer. zzzz... yawn fest
So though I hate pointless OM/OW drama, this one could have benefited from some. Both their exes needed to get together to concoct some plan with some evil relative who wanted the throne.
No one had ever escaped the dungeons of the castle once locked up by the king
See why I had my hopes up? With a statement like that, I expected the h to be kidnapped and placed in one of those beauties, and the H ready to give up his crown and come rescue her especially since the writer mentioned coup attempts and warring factions and assasination attempts. But nope, literally all words but no action.
It was a riveting but unsustained read for me. But it could definitely work for others as it has tons of glowing reviews.

Who would have thought that one little archaic law, could throw the whole country of Maritz in turmoil. A undiscovered princess is the only chance Raul, Prince of Maritz has of uniting and claiming the throne he has spent his life working for. Forced to wed, his only hope is that she is moldable and like others, impressed with fame and fortune.
What Raul discovers is a mud ridden cowgirl who has no interest in claiming her title. Waspish temper, eyes you can drown in, and an honesty Raul has never felt before, Luisa is an unexpected delight. He plans to do everything in his power to make her his bride, but what Luisa really wants in return is his heart.
Enjoyable story, has a bit of melancholy throughout but there are moments when the characters shine. Raul's suppressed demeanor is the only real obstacle in the story, you don't get to see him really evolve from his stoic manners.

Raul-Luisa both belong to royal family,their marriages were fixed by Raul's father and Luisa's grandfather,this was promised by their elders to each other when they are children,Raul loves a woman named Ana who slept with Raul's father when she was in relation with Raul and he catches them both and Ana gets married to Raul's father from then on Raul has taken this pretty badly and has turned bitter and then his father is ill and passes away and now Raul is crowned as Prince and his coronation ceremony will take place after the mourning period is over but before he has to get married to Luisa so he starts searching for her and comes to know she runs a farm,Raul-Luisa meet sparks fly and Luisa does'nt knows how to be a princess now starts her training and learning process in which these two fall for each other,Luisa realises it first but she keeps it to herself,Raul realises later but he also keeps quiet thinking Luisa is so unhappy with him and he also has the guilt cause he has forced Luisa to marry him and now he has to make a difficult decision to let go Luisa for her happiness but obviously there are more twist and turns and finally all misunderstandings are cleared and we have the HEA
This was a wonderful story cause when Raul-Luisa met they knew they were only attracted to each other and for both of them the marraige is just a compromise but then they starts spending time with each other get to know each other understand each other,Raul's most opinion is coloured by his past and he does'nt trust Luisa which hurts Luisa a lot but slowly she passes it and Raul starts to trust her,i was convinced of it cause there's one incident where it looks like Luisa-Lukas(Raul's secretary) both are more then friends and way Lukas had his hands around Luisa's waist which angers Raul and he immediately remembers how he saw Ana-His father coming out from room but instead of jumping to conclusion and thinking Luisa is same as Ana he trust her and thinks no she is not Ana,she is Luisa and she is different from her and then he goes and asks her and she tells him she was learning how to waltz which he believes,i was happy that he trusted Luisa and asked her and after this he comes to know Luisa is pregnant,Luisa thinks Raul will suspect its Lukas but no he never for once thought it was not his child,he even tells it to Luisa i know this is my child and lays down his fears but Luisa says he will make a wonderful father and they will always be there for their child
I really liked their journey of learning to trust each other and love each other,most of the time Raul does'nt allows Luisa in and is emotionally distant but then he comes to trust her and lets her in,same goes for Luisa,they both make a perfect prince-princess

חביב ביותר. הדמות של הנסיך ראול, יותר מידי מכה על חטא ויותר מידי נושא באשמה קצת נראה לי מוגזם כל משא האשמה הזו.
לואיסה מצטיירת כאישה די מושלמת, מעבר להיותה סקסית בטירוף, היא עובדת קשה ואדם מוסרי ומצפוני.
אין שום הפתעות ובכל זאת ספר חביב וקולח.

Kisah cinta kerajaan selalu punya daya tarik tersendiri. Raul dan Louisa yang bersatu karena kewajiban untuk mendapatkan takhta, ternyata berada dalaam situasi yang sama sekali tidak mereka duga. Keduanya saling menutup diri, menduga-duga, dan tidak meyadari jika sudah saling jatuh cinta.

*4.5* This is one of the most well-written HP romances I've read. The characters are very rich, especially Raul. He was ruthless in the beginning, but the way he cared for Luisa made me swoon. I like it when a hero doesn't know he is falling in love and then when it hits him ... :)

PRINCE OF SCANDAL is another royal story by Annie West
Prince Raul is not happy to learn that in order to inherit the crown on his father's death, he had to marry a Princess from another Principality in his kingdom. Their contract of marriage was drawn up when they were teens. It was out and out an arranged marriage.
But Raul had worked for his kingdom and his people for so long now and he knew that he was the best person to become the king. So he set out to look for the exiled Princess and found her in the outback of Australia, mucking out stalls and tending to cows! Luisa was running a farm.
After some hesitatation, Luisa agreed to come with Raul to his kingdom. But she does not agree to marry him. Raul took her to Paris and saw to some changes in Luisa's wardrobe and hairstyle for a makeover from a farmer into a Princess. But he, himself is staggered by the change.
While Luisa stayed at Raul's palace, after some major consideration and to help him inherit, she decided to marry Raul. The chemistry between Raul and Luisa sizzled. And the passion and sensuality in their love-making was breathtakingly astounding.
Though Luisa fell for Raul, she knew she was not his first choice of a wife, as in Luisa's words, "Do you know how it feels knowing I wasn't your first choice of wife, not even second? That you married me because of who my grandfather was?"
Raul is anguished at Luisa's rejection of him. He didn't believe in love. Yet terror engulfed him at the thought of life without her. Never holding her and telling her he couldn't live without her.
Then Raul found Luisa being sick and the sensitivity he showed brought me to tears. There were some light moments in the story when the mayor offerred the princess a stool to milk the cow and she did it, as well as sharing some tips with him. I was also happy to catch up with Alaric and Tamsin (Protected by the Prince) as Raul was Alaric's cousin.
The depth of characterisation and intense emotional conflict made this story believable. A fairytale love story. A Cinderella who blossoms under her Prince's attention.
I finished the story in one sitting as I wanted to know what would happen next and I had the happy mushy feeling in my heart by the time I ended it. I gladly give it 5 stars.

Though Luisa fell for Raul, she knew she was not his first choice of a wife, as in Luisa's words, "Do you know how it feels knowing I wasn't your first choice of wife, not even second? That you married me because of who my grandfather was?"
Raul is anguished at Luisa's rejection of him. He didn't believe in love. Yet terror engulfed him at the thought of life without her. Never holding her and telling her he couldn't live without her.
Then Raul found Luisa being sick and the sensitivity he showed brought me to tears. There were some light moments in the story when the mayor offerred the princess a stool to milk the cow and she did it, as well as sharing some tips with him. I was also happy to catch up with Alaric and Tamsin (Protected by the Prince) as Raul was Alaric's cousin.
The depth of characterisation and intense emotional conflict made this story believable. A fairytale love story. A Cinderella who blossoms under her Prince's attention.
I finished the story in one sitting as I wanted to know what would happen next and I had the happy mushy feeling in my heart by the time I ended it. I gladly give it 5 stars.

This is the "sequel" to Protected by the Prince and Alaric and Tamsin make a cameo appearance in this book.
Definitely a "sigh-licious" book that leaves you feeling warm and happy at the end. In my opinion, this is what an HP novel is all about when all the elements are right and come together. Good writing, a compelling story that keeps the reader engaged and vested in the characters and the final outcome, actual development of the love relationship, a glamorous setting, an alpha male who is strong yet considerate and a smart, independent and likable heroine. There is also a lot of the physical aspect to the love story, but it is more organic to the relationship because there is actually real interaction and development of the relationship between the hero and heroine rather than the relationship being based simply on lust.
The hero is emotionally scared due to his upbringing and past and the story focuses on how his heart thaws through the love of a warm and loving woman. The story of the "poor little rich boy" hero is certainly not new and there have been many iterations of it in many an HP novel, but I felt that Annie West did a good job in actually developing the character to make it actually believable and compelling. I actually got really engaged in the hero's plight and my heart really went out to him. The heroine is strong and warm without being bitchy or whiny and didn't annoy me once, which is a refreshing change for an HP heroine.
There is glamour in this book but also real, palpable, heart melting ROMANCE which so many HP writers seem to have forgotten is what all the fuss is about. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is Annie West at her best and reinforces to me why she is on top of the HP writers list for me.

Luisa Hardwicke tidak akan menyangka sejak kemunculan Prince Raul di peternakannya akan mengubah jalan hidupnya selamanya. Raul membujuk (dgn paksaan dan ultimatum) agar Luisa menjadi calon ratunya di Maritz. Sesampainya di Maritz, Luisa mendapati Raul pernah mencintai seorang wanita yg mengkhianatinya dan tidak akan pernah ada lagi cinta yg hadir dlm hidup Raul. Luisa patah hati dan tidak siap apalagi ada calon buah hati mereka.
Sebenarnya novel ini menarik ceritanya, apalagi latar belakang Luisa yg separo bangsawan dan pernah menolak mentah-mentah tawaran kakeknya yg menggiurkan tapi keji. Tapi ada beberapa faktor yg membuat saya agak kesel dgn glorifikasi tokoh Luisa ini. Luisa ini tipe canggung dan kurang percaya diri jadi eneg kalau digambarkan dirinya "Megah" dan sejenisnya. Lalu Luisa juga punya bakat "kecelakaan" di saat-saat yg tidak tepat. Tetapi selalu ada Raul sbg si pangeran/ksatria berzirah yg menyelamatkannya. Btw, tipe Raul sendiri cenderung bucin menurut gw ya.
Terlepas hal-hal tsb, ini novel pertama author yg dibaca. Adegan syur-syurnya lumayan bikin kipas-kipas sih. Ini novel entah kenapa malah mengingatkan gw pd Kate Middleton dan Prince William hehehe... Yg semoga aja Kate asli gak serapuh Luisa ya.

This wasn't too bad a book. Raul is the perfect prince, the dream lover in fact. However, Luisa is just a bit too innocent and dim for my liking. She is so afraid of her feelings, that she is unable to share them and decides that he can't possibly love her. Perhaps if she had tried to tell him what she felt instead of turning cold, things wouldn't have gone on for so long - but then, I suppose there wouldn't have been any tension in the book. So the story mostly rests on her being afraid and insecure, not the best reasons to make the plot interesting.

Good, sure shot premise. Royal heir forced to marry a farm girl, just to secure the throne. She turns out to a jackpot in the end !
The story began well. Especially till the wedding. Then some how I felt the relationship between them dint grow as beautifully as I had expected. Yes, the sex worked as in most modern day reads. But the romance, the oneness did not shine through for me.

"Prince of Scandal" is the story of Luisa and Raul.
A pretty sweet love story, in which our hero blackmails the heroine (a reluctant princess) to marry him. It is to save his throne, and she is forced to agree. However, we see them being considerate to each other's circumstances, falling in love and we actually see a very smitten hero by the end of the book.

I love royal stories and this one doesn't disappoint at all. It's a thrilling romance where the characters get over their past and find true love. The characters are believable and strong. I look forward to more exotic romances from this author.
