Undercover psychic investigator Casey Jones’ hunt for a traitor in Central Command gets blown all to hell when the crew of the military C130 cargo plane she's riding on tries to kill her. Drawing on her telekinesis, Casey stops their assassination attempt and bails out as the aircraft goes down in flames.
Casey meets her new partner at eight thousand feet, when Hothar is suddenly wrapped around her like a limpet. He declares he has come to rescue her from a watery death. All the butthead is going to accomplish is getting them both killed. She’s a battle-tested Siren and quite capable of catching the turncoat without his help.
Or maybe not. There’s suddenly a shitload of bad guys trying to kill them. Casey quickly realizes they are an unbeatable team. She’s a bit surprised when the young Coletti warrior brags that he knows how to perform over one hundred sex acts from his mind meld with the Overlord. Does she have a budding Don Juan on her hands? He’s certainly eager to try out every one of those positions. Come to think about it, so is she. But first, they must expose the traitor before billions die.
I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. I just finished, Stilettoes and Gunpowder book #3 in the Gemma Stone series.
Was I ready for another quirky, comedic sci-fi adventure involving a psychic, tough as nails human heroine and a determined alpha alien warlord out to save the world? Really? You have to ask? I was more than ready.
Hothar's Folly is book nine in the oft hilarious and definitely exciting light-sci fi Coletti Warlords series. This is a series that works best in order though I suppose one could get one out of order in a pinch. The worldbuilding and backstory of the series does build from the earlier books and some things only make sense or have significance when read in order.
So, this is young Hothar and Casey's stories. Hothar was introduced in book three and Casey along the way. It was neat getting a better look at Casey's background and what her particular psychic gifts could do. Instead of taking the adventure offworld like most of the books do, Casey and Hothar are part of the group rooting out betrayers and opportunists on earth who are selling out their own people to man-eating Rodans and traitorous Coletti while plotting to take over the planet. There are moles in both the earth defense military and within the Coletti and they have a part in discovering who those folk are, too.
Casey is on a mission to discover who the head of the Earth First terrorist organization is when she is made and is in a dangerous spot with no back up. Hothar, on his own mission nearby, arrives and helps her out of a jam. He figures out fast that she is his mate match and Casey gives him sass because she has no plans to be carted off by one of the Coletti. They are both too young so Casey has some time if they can manage to keep their hands off each other and stay alive when someone ruthlessly plans to kill Casey. Casey and Hothar soon learn that fighting alien and human adult enemies with weapons is nothing compared to babysitting duty, but somewhere along the line, Casey might have gotten attached to the big lug.
I had so much fun with this one. Hothar was a favorite side character earlier in the series and I was tickled that it was his turn to find his match while getting some action. Casey is definitely a challenge. She is a trouble magnet and she comes with some powerful psychic gifts. She was also adopted by Uncle Saul just as Hothar is the Coletti High Commander's nephew. They were fun together and had me laughing when they can't stay out of trouble whether it is the amorous or the adventure kind. It was fun getting the scenes with Kaylee, Adan, and a feisty newcomer who seems to have Uncle Saul's number.
The pacing is swift, but not at the expense of story development. The humor is fun even- maybe especially- in the face of tight situations. The romance was less spicy in this one because of their age, but not absent.
This was an all-around good time. I continue to look forward to ongoing stories in the Coletti Warlords' universe and thoroughly enjoy the light sci-fi romantic comedy style. I can definitely recommend these to others who want an easy and laugh out loud read along with an alien romance.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4 stars A friend lent me her copy of this book. Which was good because while I had read the previous books, this one wasn’t on my radar. I actually ended up liking it. I found it a fun read. Yes, the author has a tendency to recycle themes and events from previous stories, but I still find enjoyment in reading each new adventure. I really love the set up for the next installment and cannot wait to read Uncle Saul’s story. Should be fun.
To say I am a fan of this series is a huge understatement. This one did not disappoint. Plenty of action, plenty of laughter, old friends reappeared. Of course, sadly it ended. Now I have to wait for Saul’s book. I fell for this series ages ago and every time a new book comes out, I have to reread the others before I get my fill of f this world and as I wait for the next one. Highly recommend this book. Wish the audible was out too.
I loved Casey! She’s fierce and badass and telekinetic. Hothar is a Coletti warrior and when he meets his mate, he has a hard time keeping his hands off her. They are a fabulous together, push and pull. The heat factor is smoking.
Hothar's Folly, book #9 in the Coletti Warlords series, was such a good read! Just as much as the other books! I always look forward to reading a book by Gail Koger because I know that I will be totally entertained!! I also love finding out what is happening with all the other characters(from the previous books) and reading about what's new! Some things do stay the same and they may sound repetitive, but, they are unique to this series of books, and those along with other things, are what make these books a treat to read!! Like the humor and kickass attitudes of the Jones women! 😏 Oh, and also their craving for chocolate! Oh oh, and the sweet little nicknames they have for their mates! Not every character in a book needs to "grow" or "develop"! Some are just fine as they are! Otherwise the dynamic of the series will change too much! Anyway, when I am reading a book I don't exactly pick it apart and analyze it. Sometimes I just want to read, escape a little or allot, and be entertained, and Hothar's Folly and the Coletti Warlords series does exactly just that!! To me it is a really good book and series.......all 5 🌟's!!!
Another over the top, laugh out loud Coletti Warlord romp.
This time Casey Jones, 19, an orphan brought up by General Saul Jones & the rest of the Jones family is hot on the trail of the traitors called Earth First, who are selling psychics to the Rodan, like lunch meat.
Casey is very like her cousin Kaylee, they both like to blow stuff up and are very powerful psychics. Hothar, also 19, a Coletti Warlord is paired up with Casey as her protector as the traitors keep trying to kill her.
Lots of friends drop in, Zarek, Sariel, Bey, Talree & Kaylee & their son Thor & his baby Tabor friend, not to mention Saul, who keeps trying to stop Casey & Hothar getting too familiar as Casey is still underage according to the Colettis.
Hothar and Casey might be my favorite couple yet. There's something about these two that I really love. Like how he's so sweet to her (like feeding her chocolate, tacos, toast, etc) and so growly-alpha-protective. And I love that she's psychically strong and so freaking kickass.
They get into one situation after another, as is typical of a Jones Siren and her warlord but man, I was dying when they had to babysit Thor and Haki. OMG. LOL.
Then there's the set-up for Uncle Saul and Annie. So so soooo good. I can't wait!
Lastly, I hope we get to see what happens to Casey and Hothar when they finally mate in future books! Pretty please, Ms Gail Koger.
This was truly a sci-fi romance, complete with the Star Trek-ish terminology and graphic battles, but it was also so low-stress and infused with a unique brand of humor, and that's what I loved the most!
Yes, conflicts and battles seem to surface wherever Casey happens to be, but Gail makes sure this warrior has everything she needs to prevail...like a devoted mate and a tentacle-clad-very-hungry-almost-invincible alien.
The ending of this book set up the next one PERFECTLY...Saul and Annie seem to have explosive chemistry, and I CANNOT wait to read what happens with them!!!
(I was given this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
Love the humor! Hard to review loved the whole storyline the new people being introduced is great. I can't wait till Saul's story looking forward for that. Now the downside as always with Ms. Koger, is having to wait for the next book.I love her humor The only complaint is that this didn't feel like a complete story or rather shorten because of the way it ended will be expecting more about Hothur and Casey ...hopefully😉 with uncle Saul and Annie. All in all this book finished leaving a smile on my face, you can not ask for anything better!
No that's Folly(A Coletti Warlords Series Book9) by Gail Koger
Absolutely ferociously funny reading with plenty of dangerous situations and fantastic love connections between two different types of people. Every single page will have you laughing and enjoying every minute of reading and Gail KOGER'S ability for writing is out of this world WONDERFUL!YOU SHOULD GET THE WHOLE SERIES SO YOU CAN ENJOY HOURS OF LAUGHTER AND ENJOYABLE READING BY AN AMAZING AUTHOR..GAIL KOGER!💓💓💓💓💓💓😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ms Gail this book was a teaser and now I have to wait for the next book. Hothar's Folly is another laugh out loud book in the Coletti Warlords series. Thor and Haki stole the show. Since Casey is under 21, she and Hothar are not allowed to complete their mating, so we have to wait for the follow up story to find out how they do. Gotta love the Overlord. Hopefully they will complete the mating in the next book (Sassing Saul).
I don't k is it I would call it controlled or uncontrolled chaos . The story is definitely chaotic , but then A Jones always equals chaos . The book contains several of our old friends along with a couple new enemies. Gail had to have been in high spirits when she wrote this book . Comedy.
Gail Koger does it again. Laugh out loud funny banter and on time quips make this read truly enjoyable. New characters and visits from some of our favorites make this story complete.
Another great Colette warlord story, loved every second of the book, so hard to put down, you can read over and over and never grow tired, I Definately recommend this book and the whole series... now ready for sauls story!!!
Love Gail’s books. One cluster after the other, as the Jones ladies kick butt and find their mates. The Coletti are in for a roller coaster of troubles, it just happens! Lol
Well again, you did not disappoint us! I feel like this was the best one yet in the series. Loved the Tabors, as well as Zarek and especially the kids! Well Done!
Gail has done it again. Another great read packed with humor that makes you laugh out loud, action and romance. Her characters are wacky and lovable. Looking forward to more. This is 5 stars for me.
I love Gail Koger’s Colletti series. All the books are so good. Well told. Humorous. I love seeing previous characters in the new books and getting updates about their lives. Kaylee is one of the best. ❤️ Can’t wait for the next.
Love Gail Koger's books. They are so full of humor and adventure. Never a dull moment with the Jones Family. Each female Jones seems to have her own physic powers and some more than others. Casey and Hothar's story is such a good read. Their attraction to each other and the way they have to keep their hands to themselves because they are not deemed adults till 21 is hilarious. Zarek is keeping tabs on their behavior and he will dole out his brand of punishment for breeches. Can't wait for Saul's book should be an amazing story.
Anything with Gail Koger's name on it is a must read for me! Her books just draw me in and I can't seem to put them down until the end, even if it's 2:00 am! I'm already looking forward to the next one!! Great job!!
