Set in Victorian England, this erotic BDSM novel features a courtship between a young woman and a dashing rake.

Gabriel, Earl of Cranborne, is in need of a wife—preferably a sweet, submissive, well-trained wife who could run his household during the day and obey him in the bedroom at night. When he meets Miss Vivian Stafford at a friend's wedding, he finds himself drawn in by the exact traits he was looking for in his own wife and immediately moves to make her his own. Once the betrothal papers are signed, he arranges for her to attend Mrs. Cunningham's Finishing School. This very special school will prepare her to be the wife of an Earl . . . and also prepare for her the very specific demands and discipline she'll receive from her new husband at night.

A very steamy, erotic historical romance

Marriage Training is the story of Gabriel, Earl of Cranborne, and the impoverished Vivian. Gabriel is envious of his friend's submissive but sexually enlightened wife-to-be. At their wedding, he spots Vivian and is instantly entranced by her submissive demeanour and beautiful countenance.

A few months later Vivian is attending the exclusive Mrs Cunningham's Finishing School, where she is learning how to be the perfect debutante and wife. On her 18th birthday, she discovers that her place there has been sponsored by Gabriel, and what's more they are betrothed to be married. Not only that but she is to embark on some 'special' training, where she will learn of the very specific requirements the Earl has for his bride.

What follows is a very erotic story involving a LOT of punishment scenes as well as some BDSM and domestic discipline scenes, many of which involve an FF element. These were incredibly hot and well-written, none of them left a sour taste or felt crude. They did occasionally feel a tad repetitive, I'm not sure we needed quite as many as we had. It did make sections of the book drag a little for me. However, if you love lots of steamy sexy times that won't be an issue for you!

I loved the scenes between Gabriel and Vivian, particularly the dinner and 'PG' scenes. This was when we got to see the relationship between them develop, where their attraction and love grew. These scenes were what convinced me of their connection, and what also made me fall in love with them both. This is where I felt I learnt about them as people too.

This was a much steamier and erotic read than the author's previous historical work, though it was much more consensual than similar stories from the 'Victorian Training' trope.

Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to ARC read this book, and received a free copy in exchange for my honest review. However, please note that all opinions and views are my own.

Normally neither historical, nor Victorian, stories are something that tickles my fancy. But I've received books from Cleis Press before, so when they contacted me about this book, I thought it was worth a try - and man am I not sorry I gave it a go!! Golden Angel transported me to a time of Dukes, Duchesses, Lords and Ladies. An era I think most are somewhat familiar with, and I do think that the author represented the era and hierarchy well.  The few Victorian romances I've read, have been disappointing because I didn't feel the characters were fitting into the time. That's not the case here! Gabriel and Vivian are very believable and wholesome characters, who fit my image of what I expected.

Vivian is set to marry Lord Gabriel, who has been enchanted with this low class girl since before she came of age. In order to prepare her for their marriage, he insures she's prepared for all the things that comes with it. For this Vivian has to attend Finishing school, where she's taught the etiquette of running a household and receives training in how to please her future husband through pleasure and pain. Vivian's training and interactions with her teacher, did become a bit repetitive and boring after a while. But I really enjoyed all the scenes between the couple, but unfortunately I felt like there was too few. The book is dominated by the training, and that did make me feel like the timing was slightly off. It also made it harder for me to really connect with Gabriel, which was a shame because he was great and interesting!

All in all I'd recommend this book as it was well written. But I did wish I'd known it contains some F/F action.

I originally read this when the author shared it for free. Let me tell you that this soooo much better!

I loved the depth of feeling that Ms Angel managed to impart with this book. The story starts with Gabriel being dissatisfied with his life and glimpsing Vivian at a wedding breakfast. They meat and both are intrigued by the other one. It suggests a love at first sight story, and it might start that way, but it's not.

Fast forward a few months and Vivian is attending finishing school. She's more confident and ready to have her debut, even though she's also dreading it. On her birthday she finds out that she's already betrothed to an earl. Que in the mixed feelings: she's happy she doesn't have to have a debut, but she's also sad that she will have an arranged marriage with a dude she's never met. Further more she has to undergo "marriage training", this has her bewildered and a bit scared. A few days after this announcement she gets another bombshell: she'll meet her fiance in just a few hours! When Gabriel and Vivian meat after months of not seeing each other, the sparks are still alive. Vivian is astonished to see that her benefactor and fiance is actually the man she met at the wedding breakfast.

The parts I loved most from this book were the dinners Vivian and Gabriel had together and they got to know each other. They were sweet and funny and such a pleasure to read. That's not to say that the actual "training" wasn't lovely to read. I enjoy Ms Angel's take on the Victorian discipline sub-genre and I will always read it with pleasure.

PS: I hope some of the other students/friends from the school will get books, or that Gabriel's sisters will get stories or, you know, Ms Angel writes more :D

Just so sweet!

I loved this book. And Gabriel loved Vivian. And Vivian loved Gabriel. So much love.

I'm a sucker for a raunchy historical romance and this story hit all the right notes for me. I'm sure there were no finishing schools for young ladies with programmes like the one described in these pages, but it would be nice to think there were.

Gabriel and Vivian begin as fairly standard romance cliches, but Golden Angel paints them well and I enjoyed being in both their heads. This is a stand-alone book and it doesn't need a sequel, but if one existed I'd gladly pick it up to continue their journey.

This story contains a lot of D/s punishment scenes and some bondage, much of it is FF and all of it is consensual. If this sounds like your thing then I highly recommend this book.

A new historical erotic and discipline story by Golden Angel.

As the title says we follow Vivian in her training to prepare her for her marriage to Gabriel. A training that not only involves how to run a house, but also those expected in the bedroom.

My favorites scene where the meeting between Gabriel and Vivian. When they are getting to know each other and you can feel a connection growing.

The actual marriage training takes up a big part of the book and also features light FF scenes in there which might not be what everybody likes. For me personally I felt that there were too many marriage training scenes. It got repetitive and I skimmed a few. I would have liked more scenes between Gabriel and Vivian. The balance was a bit off for me.

Golden Angel is one of my favorite authors.

I felt that the author took her time developing the main characters. I had the feeling I knew the characters and I wanted to hang out with them. The plot was interesting and I wonder if there ever was a Marriage Training.

This was not my favorite book from Golden Angel. I liked her books in the The Venus School of Sex series or the Philip's Rules, Bridal Discipline series. I felt this book was lacking something but as I am writing this I can't think what it is. I didn't feel complete with this book. I wasn't upset when I finished the book, I was ready for it to be over. I don't like feeling like this when I read a book, especially one of Golden Angel books, she is sooooo awesome.

I don't really read a whole lot of historical or regency romances but I enjoy Golden Angel's books so I had to read this one. Boy am I ever glad I did. Right away, I got swept up in the story of Gabriel and Vivian. I was immediately transported to a time of Ladies, Lords, Viscount, Duchesses and Dukes. From all I could tell, Ms. Angel represented the era very well in her writing of it. The characters were totally believable and I really enjoyed Gabriel's sisters and his whole family. As soon as Vivian turns 18, her schooling takes on more of a "personal" nature as she must learn to not only how to run a household but how to please her husband. The lessons she goes through are shocking to her but at the same time, stir something in her she didn't realize she would like! Very well written and easy to follow, this story is sure to please fans of Ms. Angel's. Now, if only there can be another book in the future!!

I have to say I was sold when I first read the blurb for this title and I got to say it did not disappoint.

I found the concept of the story fascinating. The story was well written that I could easily picture the school and the teachers and all the learning that went on in it. It was (remarkably) believable and I enjoyed every minute while reading. I loved that there was minimum drama. The MC's were interesting to get to know, their interactions were refreshing to what I'm used to in HR romance.

As a new-to-me author this was a hit. I'll be on the lookout for more Golden Angel books.

When somebody pitches a "steamy BDSM regency story," I tend to pay attention. There is just so much potential within the mix of regency romance and BDSM erotica, so many possibilities for prim-and-proper arousal, that my eyes light up at the idea. That is how Golden Angel came to my attention, and why I found myself languishing beneath the stars on a sweltering summer night reading Marriage Training from cover-to-cover.

As a romantic at heart, I loved the odd courtship between Gabriel and Vivian. The very idea of a finishing school for young women that teaches them to be proper wives is a familiar one, but the young Earl has very specific tastes. In addition to lessons in etiquette and caring for her home, Miss Vivian also finds herself schooled in pain and pleasure.

Personally, I love stories of erotic training and submissive education, no matter what the era or the setting, so having that schooling at the hands of Mrs. Banks dominate so much of the book was a pleasant surprise. It makes for a wonderful vicarious experience, but those scenes also awaken the character of Vivian, exploring an erotic version of the same sort of awakening common to regency romances of first love. The training scenes are varied enough to keep them interesting, and the gentle sort of bisexual moments were some of my favorites.

By the time Gabriel and Vivian are ready to meet properly, you might expect the story to immediately delve into sexy goodness, but there is still a lot of proper flirting and seduction mandated by the era. It is what makes this a romance, with the to-be-wed couple quickly falling in love and discovering that they are almost a perfect fit. Gabriel is a protective sort of dominant, which tends to make me swoon, while Vivian reveals herself to be a delightful submissive, which I can so appreciate. There is genuine chemistry there, which is what makes their eventual erotic interludes that much more significant.

Not only did Marriage Training deliver on just about everything I hoped for, but it did so with style, thanks to the lovely narrative style of Golden Angel. I am excited to read more of her work!

Marriage preparation has never been so hot

MARRIAGE TRAINING
is yet another superb example of Golden Angel's writing. Set during the Victorian era, this is the story of a young woman's sexual enlightenment. It is a steamy erotic read that will most certainly have you squirming in your seat.

A chance meeting at a wedding is about to change the lives of Lord Gabriel Cecil, Earl of Cranborne, and Vivian Stafford, a young woman whose family is struggling financially. From his first sighting of Vivian, Gabriel is totally enchanted, he wants her, but he knows that due to her age he must wait. While waiting for her, he ensures that everything is done to prepare her for him.

Suddenly Vivian finds herself attending a Finishing School, that not only teaches her the etiquette of running a Victorian household, but one that will give her training in the sexual proclivities of her future husband, the art of pain and pleasure in the bedroom.

I really enjoyed this story. The innocence of Vivian playing against the experience and dominance of Gabriel. Even though a lot of the training scenes were focused on Vivian and her responses to her instructor Mrs Banks, they were extremely well written and incredibly hot. However, once Gabriel was allowed to participate, they became extremely sensual. My only gripe over the scenes with Mrs Banks ... there were quite a few and they did become repetitive.

Once Gabriel and Vivian were able to be together, at dinners and luncheons, I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions. This is really where their relationship blossoms and we see the protective nature of Gabriel. This is where we watch them fall in love. They are able to show that their marriage will not be one of convenience.

Definitely a book I would recommend to those who enjoy historical fiction with a touch of BDSM thrown in. The storyline was interesting, the characters endearing and the writing superb.

Gabriel's a bit jaded, envious of his friend who found the perfect submissive and Gabriel wants it for himself. Gabriel see's the young Vivian at his friend's wedding and her submissive nature and is instantly intrigued. Her family is impoverished and needs to marry to help improve her family's financial situation. Unbeknownst to her, they are betrothed and he pays for her finishing school and then extra marriage training.

On her eighteenth birthday she's told about her benefactor and betrothed, she's given the choice to take the 'marriage training' but it will all end if she decides to stop the training.

It's a decadent, steamy, erotic read, at first Vivian's training is conducted mostly by her female companion, including punishment spankings and rewarding orgasms, teaching Vivian to experience pleasure in pain. Teaching Vivian how to please her soon to be husband. Then gradually Gabriel is included in her training. Leaving the reader with a lot of erotic kinky moments, primarily around orgasm and punishment. As these two spend more and more time together socially and during her training their love grows as well as their lust.

I voluntarily received this book for an honest review. Great read, it's a slower paced, making you simultaneously wish to stay in the moment and for it to speed up. If you enjoy Victorian Discipline, spanking scenes, and innocence introduced to sexual pleasure, you'll enjoy this story.

I wanted to love this book but I only liked it. There were things that really worked for me.
*The writing was solid.
*I liked the characters and they were fairly fleshed out.
*The focus stayed on sex.
*It wasn’t angst riddled
*A sub/dom relationship in which the people were genuinely submissive and dominant (not just a bully and someone willing to take it for love)

But there were things that didn’t work for me.
*The “marriage training” was practical and lacked passion (by design)
*It leaned towards gaslighting. The heroine was treated like a sex doll that was being programmed and the “consensual non consent” was really more coercion and manipulation. I don’t object on moral grounds (I am reading a domestic discipline story, after all) but to me that had a downside.
*Because of the above, when the story finally came to the romance part, I just didn’t buy it.
*Lack of variety. I love me some naughty spanking, that’s why I read these books, but I want more than that. This was just extremely repetitive spanking with a bit of finger banging. Eventually some other things were added in, but really not enough and never without the spanking. It lost its thrill.

I will definitely seek out more by the author because overall it was worth reading, but... well, I just didn’t love it.

Marriage Training – Sign Me Up!

I had read the version of this that was originally on Literotica, and was excited to see the changes made to turn it into a published book. I was not disappointed! Everything I remember loving from the story was still there, with fantastic updates to round the story out and show us more of Gabriel and his interactions with Vivian.

Seeing Gabriel court Vivian, even when he was already betrothed to her and basically guaranteed an amicable wife, makes me long for someone like that – kinks included! They had such a great connection, and their chemistry leaps off the page. The detail and emotion Golden Angel weaves into her stories makes you feel like you’re a part of them. Even though I know the Victorian time period isn’t REALLY one I would want to live in (just thinking about sanitary conditions makes me cringe), this book makes me want to go get a reformed rake of my own!

As always, my only complaint is I want more! I really want to know the story for the couple in the beginning, and I’d like to see more students in Vivian’s situation. I’m also curious about Mrs. Banks, and the beginning of the “marriage training” aspect of the school.

Warning: There is a LOT of hot, sexy scenes that will have you fanning yourself to avoid swooning. BDSM aspects including spanking, discipline, punishments, etc. are abound, as well as some FF interactions and back door action ;-)

Golden Angel introduces us to a Victorian romance with a kink twist with Marriage Training.

Gabriel is gorgeous bachelor that is envious of his friend's beautiful trained submissive wife. When he spots a pretty red head at his friends wedding reception, Gabriel is intrigued if she could be the "perfect " wife for him with a bit of help from Mrs. Cunningham's Finishing School.

Vivian is a young sweet natural submissive, that has a desire to please all those around her. She meets a mysterious gentleman at her cousin's wedding, and has an unexplainable physical connection to.

Mrs. Cunningham runs a finishing school, molding young ladies into debutantes and future wives, that can run a house hold smoothly and efficiently. But also offers a special course for those that are well established, to have their future wife educated on how to please their husband...especially those husbands that have certain kinks and desires.

I enjoyed reading this book. Golden Angel has a way with drawing you into her characters. I especially loved all the times Gabriel spent with Vivian. I did want more cute courting interactions between them tho. Vivian's "training " with her handler, Mrs. Banks were very steamy and a bit naughty, sometimes i found myself speed reading through them to get to more of scenes with Gabriel and Vivian together.

**I did receive this book as an ARC for my honest review **

Steamy and well-written, but not my taste

A historical romance with a bdsm slant, this series is a spinoff of the author’s Domestic Discipline series. This is an author whose work I typically enjoy, and while neither the historical or erotica genres are my go-to choices for romance categories, I do read some of each, and find it particularly interesting when the two are combined.

I found the setup here intriguing and liked Gabriel. I found it a little harder to relate with Vivian, but I did like the way she and Gabriel interacted; besides the obvious chemistry, they could connect through their art, and their affection for their families. Speaking of families, while there wasn’t as much humor as I usually expect from this author, there was some, and I particularly enjoyed Gabriel’s interactions with his younger sisters.

What I didn’t like has more to do with personal taste than anything else. Bdsm storylines do occasionally push me outside of my comfort zone—I’m not in the lifestyle and some aspects just aren’t my kink. I’m typically most interested in the main characters and their relationship in books, and a lot of time here was spent on Vivian’s training with her female companion at the school, Mrs. Banks. Between the discipline aspects and the female to female interaction, neither of which particularly appeal to me, the story dragged a bit. The book definitely picked up once Gabriel and Vivian started to interact more, but ended a little too soon. While I understand why the author made the choices she did, I really wanted more story and less steam—or at least more of the steam to be between the main characters and not in the training scenes between Vivian and Mrs. Banks, lol.

With an entertaining setup and plenty of heat, this was a basically well-written book. It just wasn’t to my taste this time. 3.5 stars

This book was beautifully written. The eroticism is hot as with any GA books.
I loved both characters. I loved their chemistry. I loved how sweet and patient he was. And how he courted her despite their "arranged" betrothal.
I love the idea of the school, but it was a bit tame in reality. I wish there had been more pupils enrolled in this particular area of study, and maybe some "classes" they participated in together as opposed to the regular day classes the school provided.
I wish it had included a bit more of them together as a married couple.
But, It was a highly enjoyable read all in all. I will read it again.

Regency era romances are always fun to read. Spanking romances are always fun to read. Put the two of them together, and you get something that I enjoyed reading. It was sweet and lovely, and smoking hot.

I thought that Gabriel and Vivian together were really sweet. It's obvious how much they feel for each other. They just want to go into their own little bubble and live together. It really was something that I enjoyed watching. I liked seeing them apart, when they were thinking about the other, and then when they got together. The thing is that they didn't change how they felt from when they were apart to when they were together.

I would love to see more out of this world.

I love stories set in the Victorian Age. Add domestic discipline to it and you make it all that much more enticing to me. Golden Angel has combined these elements and wrapped them around two very strong characters; Gabriel, a titled rake who wants more than a ton match and Vivian, daughter of a Duke of meager means. Then she added the spice of a Finishing School for young ladies that also handles Marriage Training for individuals who request their brides be trained in the art of pleasure and pain. It's poignant and erotic. A romance you want set in a time when it's least expected with all the eye opening discoveries we come to know and love by Golden Angel.

Vivian and Gabriel are a love story of all time. Perfectly matched for each other. Her arranged marriage was a shock to her but she knew her family was counting on her to help them with their debt. Gabriel was wanting a submissive wife like his friend had.. he got that and so much more..

I received a free copy of this book from I Love Romance. This did not affect my experience reading this book in any way.

Marriage Training, by Golden Angel, is a steamy victorian erotica detailing the exploits of an innocent, young woman named Vivian and her dark, mysterious Earl. After meeting, and falling in love with Vivian at a wedding, Lord Gabriel decides to support Vivian and her family by financing her finishing school. The aristocrat promises to support Vivian’s family and will guarantee Vivian’s security under one condition: that she undergo special training to become his wife.

To be honest, I really loved this book, not only because of how Angel depicts the fluidity of pleasure and sexuality, but also the accurate depiction of the BDSM community. It is crucial that consent be given, that power be freely taken, and it’s clear that Angel respects these values. Moreover, the scenes between Vivian and her companion were titulating, and the fact that Vivian was able to switch from her companion to Gabriel as effortlessly as she did just helps build their relationship up. And true, everyone was horny, but it’s refreshing how the romance plays out here. Even more ironic is that, despite all the “modern” romances out there, I would say that this book, given the context of the story, is the gold standard.

It also helps that the couple in question is likable. I admire Vivian’s persistence in staying with Gabriel. She’s just too forgiving in my opinion. True, she’s submissive, but she’s also got a lot of fire that you wouldn’t otherwise see. It’s the same with Gabriel. He was able to show a gentler side to himself, and that he took the time to court Vivian even though she was already guaranteed to be his wife. I like how awkward he is around his sisters and stepmother, and how, despite all the heated moments in the book, Angel still takes the time to show Gabriel as human, and that, in a way, Gabriel is just as innocent as Vivian when it comes to first (and only) love. It’s something I feel that Vivian would appreciate. He’s also very compassionate when it comes to disciplining Vivian, and practices open communication that a lot of couples lack nowadays. Despite the initial harshness of the relationship, the couple avoids a lot of drama by being straight forward with one another. It adds a layer of sweetness to an otherwise hot plot.

I enjoyed this book. I like how accurate the book depicts impact play (I’m looking at you Fifty Shades), as well as how Angel depicts a healthy sexual relationship. I loved the tender moments that Vivian and Gabriel share, as well as the instances of sweetness tucked in. As such, I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars

Marriage Training is the first book that I have read by Golden Angel and it definitely won’t be the last. It was a thoroughly captivating and all-consuming read. There is very little of a storyline, but it was perfectly executed and I loved the characters. Gabriel is an overwhelming and completely alluring character, I really couldn’t get enough of his interactions with Vivian. Vivian was interesting and easy to like. I haven’t read a lot of erotic/BDSM romances but out of the ones I have read, this one is totally my favourite. The writing is fantastic and every emotion easy to capture. I highly recommend this story!
