American Gods: Shadows
American Gods: Sombras

Almost at my patience end with this comic. For every clever or exciting moment to get the story rolling there is at least 10 pages of meaningless drivel in each comic. Its like the author wants the story to be so different that its not even constructed in a way that the reader can follow it.

Ibis "But in all branches of industry -- and death is an industry, make no mistake about that -- one makes one's money from centralizing one's operations. It's not pretty, but it's true."
The graphic novel adaptation of American Gods. Shadows 8/9: Love the writing and exposition by Gaiman but the art is a little flat and lets down the storytelling. Shadow is now in Cairo (Kay Ro) where he meets what I'm guessing are Gods from the Egyptian Pantheon - Jackal (Anubis) and Ibis (Thoth). I love the cat (obviously Bast). Then we segue into Coming to America, Salim's story, and wow, this ... this is the Gaiman story within a story type of storytelling that I love, hearkening back to Worlds' End.

Salim and the Ifrit are hands down the star of this issue. My biggest complaint about this series is the placement of the big reveals. For the Ifrit's eyes, it's right in the middle of the page. I think it would have been better on a page turn. But the story itself is well done and well illustrated.

An excellent graphic adaptation of a true classic novel.
