More twists are introduced, pushing the story forward. The world is about to change an every new chapter just brings it closer and closer with amazing detail.
This volume felt so short! Marie and Charles are powerful parallels and a really interesting relationship. Sad and intrigued with what they are becoming
The final chapters were the peak of this volume. The idea that some humans do not want freedom, even when faced with the worst kinds of degradation, humiliation and slavey, even when given to them by others, is unfortunately too real, although this topic could have been explored a bit more. I really liked the idea of the masses, empathising with the condemned, becoming almost as if they were one being, seeing the condemned's pain and screams as their own. The metaphor of the ocean to refer to this connected group of individuals was really interesting, since in a way individual human life is like a droplet or molecule of water in an ocean. A new type of complex behavior arises from the whole, and goes beyond what its individual components can achieve alone. Like an enormous wave that one cannot stop, prevent or face, but merely attempt to survive its passage or take refuge. Also Marie giving her baby a blood baptism was amazing.
