After a wildfire took everything from her, Emily Hall made do surviving as a homeless human by day and as an owl at night. When one of the men responsible for infecting her with lycanthropy comes winging his way back into her life, she must choose between revenge or resuming a normal life.

Until Daniel’s return, she never dreamed she might be able to have both.

Warning: this novella contains excessive humor, romance, action, adventure, and puns. No plots were injured during production but don’t ask about the wood chipper. Some things are best left unspoken.

RJ Blain suffers from a Moleskine journal obsession, a pen fixation, and a terrible tendency to pun without warning.

When she isn't playing pretend, she likes to think she's a cartographer and a sumi-e painter. In reality, she herds cats and a husband, and obeys the commands of Tsu Dhi, the great warrior fish.

In her spare time, she daydreams about being a spy. Should that fail, her contingency plan involves tying her best of enemies to spinning wheels and quoting James Bond villains until she is satisfied.

Again, these are cute fun reads. No worries that the blurb can be a bit off-putting - the books are better written than her blurbs.

With ALL of her Romantic Comedy series, the author is most interested in the chase, and once settled the books do end rather abruptly - more so with the novellas, but I’d noticed that in all of them. As you’re looking for more you hit the author comments right away.

I listened to this on audible and I gotta say I really adored Emily as a character. Something about how blood thirsty she was just endeared her to me, no idea why. As far as a love story goes, it was a but businesslike for me to buy that part and I gotta say I was completely disappointed that when it came down to the really gory parts she didn't really get to participate. I just don't see the point in building her up to a strong independent woman only to have her sheltered and cosseted when push comes to shove. Also I felt a little cheated that this cuts out before the wedding and the aftermath. Overall though I liked the story.

2023 bk 37. Another of Blain's paranormal and magical universe. This time a young woman works as with a landscape company mowing lawns/fixing machines by day and hunting the woods by night as an owl. Ten years prior a small group of teenage boys attacked her, infecting her with the lycanthrope virus - only in her case it turned her into an owl, not a wolf. The leader of the pack is still searching for her - as is one of the boys who turned good and is now a CDC/FBI agent. This agent has been looking for her to see helped and trained and reimbursed for the injuries. A thought out plot that could have been fleshed out a bit more, but was still enjoyable.

Loved this as usual.

As with all of her "Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count)", I loved this novella. "Owl Be Yours" is a pun of course, because RJ Blain can't seem to not pun. 😘

This one revolves around Emily Hall and her need for revenge against Brad, the wolf shifter who turned her. It was romantic, funny and as usual, quite well written. The character development was awesome and you got to feel like these were real people/lycanthropes with all the quirks and idiosyncratic behaviors.

I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys snark, romantic comedy and magic/lycanthropy.

I really didn't like this novella. The main character was either really stupid or severely traumatized (probably both). The "hero" was a creepy stalker. And then there was the wolf. He deliberately attacked and infected an unwilling human. TWO of them, in fact, though one accidentally got infected by the stalker instead. Instead of putting his ass DOWN, the gov't gave him a nice, cushy job. What? AND they forced him to work with the girl he basically raped by infecting her? What?!!! I also hate the whole "his virus infected me, so I am his mate for life" thing. It makes NO SENSE. The author is trying to say that every single person who is infected with lycanthropy is suddenly "attached" to their attacker? Doesn't seem like it in the rest of her world. Why does the wolf woman have to choose a mate at all? Why not just kill that jerk and be single? No. She's forced to "pick" a mate whether she has any feelings for him or not. Just stupid.

The story moved along well and was entertaining for much of the book until it fell into the obligatory sex romp that pretty much stops the storyline. The momentum of the story was lost and never really picked up again.

R. J. Blain is a very hit-or-miss author for me. When she's writing about crazy situations that the characters get themselves into, the stories can be hilarious. When she's writing dialogue, they are torturous. And when she tries to explain how the magic works, the contorted explanations don't always make sense. I like the world she's built, and I like the slapstick, crazy-mishaps humor. I HATE the repetitive dialogue. If two characters have a conversation, then one of the characters calls a third character, under no circumstances should the reader be subjected to the first and third character having the exact same conversation the first and second character JUST HAD. The author does this ALL THE TIME. It's infuriating to read. Every time I read a passage where she makes this mistake, I waiver on whether it's really worth it to keep buying and reading the stories in this series. When she does focus on action, they can be really funny, but ONLY when she cuts down on dialogue and focuses on action. Her dialogue is MUCH too repetitive and all the characters have the exact same sense of humor. I'm on the fence.

This one was fairly forgettable. There's a woman that's an owl shifter who's been living off the grid, dirt-poor, working at a landscaping company. A CDC man who went to school with her tracks her down and forces her to have a life, giving her a way to get back at the scumbag who originally attacked her and made her a lycanthrope. And they fall in love and get married.

It was well written but nothing really happens

It has witty dialog and narration that I really enjoyed, but nothing really happens.
We are told of a big event that happened two years ago (I believe), while mc was in high school in passing which put the mc in the situation she is now.
We only really experience her going to work as a mechanic for a gardening company , almost everything we are told in passing.

It has the structure of what could have been a really good story, independent mc that only knows to rely on herself at the beginning, but quickly accepts love interest providing things. However, the story feels passive, the big plan to get rid of the duche/bad guy was a bit like a childish idea that kind of gets fiddled with but nothing was really planned.
The way the bad guy was defeated made it seem like mc was a side character more than a protagonist.

I feel like if the story focused a bit on the high school experience with mc and love interest’s relationship, such as the teasing and the head-butting that is mention, along with the event that caused her to turn would have been more interesting, even adding a time skip and then whats happened in this book as the second half of the story. Rather having most things happening in the background without any real actions from the protagonist.

Emily is not dealing well with the aftermath of being infected on purpose during high school. Her plans for her future were dashed, and she went into seclusion. A wildfire destroyed her home, so she's been homeless for the last couple of years, living and hunting in her owl form when she's not working.

Daniel has been looking for her ever since the trial. He was part of the group that attacked her, but was doing his best to protect her. Turns out it was his strand that infected her. He now works for the CDC, and now that he's found her ... he plans on starting his lengthy courtship. It's absolutely adorable how he goes about it. Emily is struggling with her new reality. She's getting her life back, and dealing with a very determined Daniel. She has a very specific betrothal gift she requires.

Very insta-love type story, but perfect for the length of the book.

Amazon don't seem to like me reviewing and won't post on here lol so if end up with two posts the same *raspberry blown*

Brought as a box set, but reviewing as separate book.

Emily had her life taken from her when she was infected with lycanthropy.

Then a wild fire took her home.

The 'males' that gave her this virus are still looking for her. One more so than the others.

I sat here with such a big smile on my face when Emily started to plan Brad's demise as part of her wedding lol.

Daniel is a great character, I would love someone like him to feed me, specially the cupcakes ;) hubster might not like it though lol.

Who know owls were SO blood thirsty?!?!?!?

Fab book, but it ended BEFORE we got the wedding!!!!!!! Miffed! lol.

Wonderful book!!! I can never put R J Brain's books down. I read as fast as I can.

There are really great characters I fell in love with. The plot is so funny with puns here and there. She has invented a whole new world of the paranormal and human relations. I have to hurry because I have another of Er books to read. They built up while I was away two months and couldn't read. Torture. New books and can't read. She plans a book a month. I really appreciate that over waiting the standard one year of a publishing house. Also covers and titles she can pick herself and they are so much better than theirs-fun.

Another novella, this one had far more tears than laughs for me. Lycanthropes are infected with a virus that can be for shifts into many creatures. The best things about lycanthropes are that they are monogamous, loyal and protective. In this story we see some very bad aspects as one wolf tries to infect one woman, mainly because he knows someone else wants her. While he's unsuccessful, her life is still turned upside down. Since he failed with one woman, to whom he has to pay reparations, he infects and claims another as his mate without her consent. This story is how both women work toward wholeness.

Pure Awesomeness!

I just finished and couldn't wait to leave my review. Man, this book is so good! Another great novel by R.J. I thought I had read most of her books, but had skipped this one. The main character is a hoot. Heh. She's tough and a little blood thirsty, understandably so. It was so easy to understand and feel for her. All the characters are easy to understand and appreciate. Even the bad guys where easy to hate. It made for an enjoyable morning read. I adore the universe this book and her others takes place in. This is definitely something you want to read. Have fun and go read her others also. It'll be worth your while.

Quite the hoot!

Emily has lived homeless for two years due to being attacked and given the lycanthrope virus on purpose. She didn't want to register with the CDC even if it would give her a semi life back. She worked landscaping and fixed the lawn equipment and by night she tried to hunt for good as the owl she now was. With no guidance she stumbles through being a shifter the best she can until she sees the group that attacked her ... Daniel has been looking for Emily for two years and can't believe it when he finally finds her. Can he help her? I enjoyed this book and will continue reading the series.

Loved it!

This was a different kind of shifter romance book than I am used to. Who knew that there were owl shifters. Love the many ways that they come up with to kill a wolf shifter. Overall it was an easy read with likeable characters, except for one that is. I didn't like the way that the book ended. Hence the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. I was looking forward to the wedding and wolf bonding but I guess that is for another book or it may even continue without these. Going to have to read the next book to find out.

Basic Plot: After a series of life tragedies, Emily was barely making it by until Daniel came back into her life.

This novella was short, sweet, and surprisingly touching at times. We have a heroine whose entire life was turned upside-down by more disaster than any one person should have to suffer. Honestly, though, I know people who have been through even more, so it was very believable. It made me root for her and for Daniel as well. I enjoyed their dynamics, and the book wound up giving me a needed bit of escapist fantasy.

Emily was attacked in couple years ago in high school and deliberately infected with the lycanthropy virus and has been trying to recover since

What I enjoyed:
* Emily is very blood-thirsty (with good reason) and I love her murder plans
* I liked that Emily and Miranda bonded
* You don't often see owl shifters

What could have been better:
* The fact that if you get infected with the virus, you may end up mated to the person who did it to you is extremely messed up
* Someone should have put Brad down years ago
* Daniel is kind of stalkery

And now I'm up to date. Gotta say I love the pun titles and the cover artwork. I found this one a little more serious than the rest, still good just a little less or darker humor. An owl with a sweet tooth and a desire for murder to rival the snake princess. Really hoping the couples cross paths at one point. Daniel was sweet and possessive, I'd say he was my favourite character but crowbar. Another fast faced fun read.

Short, vicious, and sweet!

This one's a quick read that's darker than the others in the collection, but still amusing! It's a different set of rules, and a different acting shifter virus, and unless you've read others in the series first, I'm not sure you'd quite get it. Anyway, I like the darkness here, it's more honest when talking about having an animal inside. Is he going to be stuffed into the mulcher? You've got to read and find out!

Short and sweet, similar to Home, Hearth and Havoc. Has the silly shifter instalove weirdness and a lot of "humorous" discussion and planning about how to plan and kill someone. (That isn't actually that funny, but is again perfectly serviceable.)

Protagonists are flat and also somewhat interchangeable with other Protagonists in this series, but I still find them decent background material while relaxing when I'm not up for reading anything meatier and more substantial.

Not my favorite in the series, but it has its moments. It’s still light and fun, but coming straight from the first 4 books, it’s just not up to par.
The characters are fun and their interactions are a hoot 🦉 pun intended. But the plot line and vengeance part are just not as masterly delivered/executed as in the first 4 books.
I love her fixation on making mulch of the villain, but… well I just want a little more umpf!

Description of a magical romantic comedy with a body count was right on point. We laughed, we were introduced to a magical world of lycanthropy that's transferred like a virus, and fell in love with the main characters. This was my first introduction to R.J. Blain and we have already bought a set of more books on Kindle.

Have you ever wondered about how to get rid of a body?

Well if you have, this book has a few ideas. This about courage, strength, perseverance and revenge. As it usually is with this series, it’s not a good idea to piss of a couple of women. Women don’t just get pissed, they get even. Loved the book, just as much as I have loved all the others.

Best one yet. The ending was perfect. It is nice to get a full and satisifying ending.
The one thing I dislike about this series is there is no overall arc. One of the great things about reading a series is former characters popping in and letting us know how they are, but here there is none of that. Yet I still have hope.

Justifiable homicide has never been so fun!

Owl Be Yours by RJ Blain is packed with quirky offbeat humor, romance and justifiable homicide. If you've ever wished you could see someone get their just deserts this is the book for you.

Humor?

I didn’t laugh once but perhaps I have a different sense of humor. The story could have been good if developed more. It felt rushed at the end like the author was dying to wrap it up.

Needs work

This was a bit more slapdash than usual. Mistaken homonyms were too frequent for comfort and the characters were paper thin.

It’s amusing and I will likely get the next book, but this is by far the weakest and sloppiest of the series.

Comedy?

The author is labeling these books as comedies but I'm not seeing much humor. I think they are also well written and am disappointed that they aren't more connected to the other books.
