What should have been a preliminary scouting job for a future art heist turns into Declan McGrady’s worst nightmare when he discovers the gallery’s owner has exotic — and live — tastes. Breaking a group of werewolf women out of a hostage situation is above his pay grade, but he’s left with no choice.
Worse, what he doesn’t know might kill him — and dump him back into the world of black ops at the cost of his freedom or his life.
WOLF HUNT takes place following the events of SILVER BULLET, Witch & Wolf #4. This novel is part of a trilogy, which will conclude the Witch & Wolf series.
RJ Blain suffers from a Moleskine journal obsession, a pen fixation, and a terrible tendency to pun without warning.
When she isn't playing pretend, she likes to think she's a cartographer and a sumi-e painter. In reality, she herds cats and a husband, and obeys the commands of Tsu Dhi, the great warrior fish.
In her spare time, she daydreams about being a spy. Should that fail, her contingency plan involves tying her best of enemies to spinning wheels and quoting James Bond villains until she is satisfied.
Re-read to recap. I really didn’t like Julie and I felt sorry for Declan, springing the packs on him was like throwing Vicky a surprise party of inquisitors. It’s nice to see Dante again and mentions of Sara. The beginning was confusing, I forgot he was dressed as a woman. A lot of questions left open, so recap was definitely needed. Looking forward to the next one.

I love this guy already as much as I do Dustin. Great beginning, a little iffy with the military guy and full on chaos with the mission. The Bob thing was fun. Didn’t like Julie. Bit of mystery thrown in. Death, violence, Yellowknife/Seattle mayhem and one poor guy that wants to be left alone. Favourite character other than Declan was Anthony. Looking forward to the next one.

This may be a spoiler so if that is a problem for you look away!
I really enjoyed the book but fair warning - there is a cliff hanger! Main story line resolves but our hero is still out there...somewhere...with a guilt trip and an injured wolf. Also this book has links to Blain's Witch and Wolf books. I read this before them and it was fine, but I've gotten copies and will read them for context [and the pure delight of another RJ Blain story!]
I love funny fantasy, and sometimes, this author is hilarious. More often, though, I wish this author's books had been rigorously edited. This is one of the "please find a red pen and be merciless" books. The biggest problem is the dialogue. It goes on FOREVER and digresses into endless bickering that adds nothing to character or plot development. And unfortunately, all the characters seem the same. I can't tell them apart by anything but their names, and there are so many of them that they all blend together. I get that this book is well into a series and that I skipped a few installments, but come on. Throw the reader a bone with a little summary backstory , or leave the extra characters out. Most of them WERE NOT NEEDED to advance the plot, and talked too much for cameo appearances. Also, it would be nice if the prep for the action didn't take 10,000 times as many words as the action sequences in the story. Action is better than bickering, always.
This book is about a glowing pink werewolf (and that joke was barely exploited) who accidentally rescues a bunch of female werewolves from a kidnapper, then loses the females, then gets drafted into the military, then finally tracks them down again, but with an entourage. The bad guys are barely mentioned and do nothing to add drama to the story. The plot development could have used work. This book reads like an early draft.
How can one both love and and be in horror something at the same time? Or maybe I love that sting of pain that comes with what is almost a cliff hanger? Either way, this book is one of my favorites for the series yet. I can hear the sequel enticing my wallet already, with the part of me that delights in buying books calling for blood.
We get to see some of our favorite witches and wolves for our crew in this book, making me glad to have read the other books in the series. The new characters were wonderful as well. A few O thought I would love but ended up disliking (*cough, cough* Julie) and a couple I fell in love with, including everybody's favorite SEAL.
This book is part of the witch and wolf series. Although, it works as a stand alone.
A lone wolf and “Marine” finds seven captive female werewolves on a job in Europe. When he uses his old passport to get back to the states the military finds him after he ghosted after a “S” mission.
Come to find out lots of werewolves are missing and their family has friends in high places, both the US and UK military.
This crazy “mission” puts him near other werewolves, something he has been avoiding his whole life.
Meh. BIG Meh. Boring world The main character is very uninteresting so since the book is written in his voice, ack, who cares. I don't want to "know" him, so shut up wolf. Plot is farfetched and not in a good way.
I really found this book not worth the time (as Prue says "not worth the calories") and doesn't make me feel like I want to even attempt to read anything else written by this mediocre author.
I wonder if the reviewers who gave it 4stars or more are friends, family or just have poor taste.
2024 bk 102. An adventure involving a man in drag rescuing 7 women from being held captive in a castle in France. One exciting dive later, the reader learns that our adventurer has been missing for over 10 years and is wanted by the military because of his extraordinary abilities to extract people from bad situations. Our hero just wants to get the job done with a minimum of fuss but instead has to take along a group of excited werewolves, revealing his own true nature. Well done, I will probably want to go back and read it again as soon as I finish the sequel.
I must admit that I'm a bit of an RJ Blain fan girl, so I've been eagerly awaiting this next book in the Witch & Wolf series and I'm pleased to say that its just as good as the previous ones. With appearances from established beloved characters (the Desmonds anyone? Nicolina is my hero) and new interesting ones (Declan, Anthony, Lane and Haney) this is a very satisfying read.
This book started with action and just kept going. I am so impressed with the main character. He is concerned for everyone around him even when he is going to suffer for it. I felt how exhausted he was throughout the story. It made me tired because he was. It felt like he never slept throughout the whole book. I so enjoyed the fast pace and interactions between the characters. I'm looking forward to the next novel.
As usual, R.J. has written another fabulous story that I Hope will become a long series 😊. Our hero has been used and abused throughout his life and after he's managed to stay hidden for ten years, a stupid decision gets him caught up in the insanity he tried to walk away from 😣. Thanks R.J. I'm absolutely Hooked on this story and look forward to reading more 🤓.
I love the books set in the worldbuilding of the Wolf and Witch series (I highly recommend all the books, and reading them in order so you can fully appreciate the references and other characters). Declan may be one of my favorite characters from these cross-over stories. The plot was excellent, the snark first-class, and the pace was fast and satisfying. I can't wait for the next book.
RJ Blain writes speculative fiction. magic, witches, werewolves. It's terrific to read, especially if you just need to escape reality for a while. It's a fun read that also makes you think about what can go wrong with humanity (or its magical counterparts). If you're expecting high brow literature, look elsewhere.
Great start to a new series set in the Witch and Wolf world. Some familiar (if you read the Witch and Wolf series) faces show up to help/complicate things. This book is the first in a series and ends leaving things open and ready for the next book. I loved the action and intrigue. Can't wait to read the next book.
Declan is priceless. He can handle discussing art, antiques, and history as well as shoot any gun, dive off cliffs, and both bake and cook all while hiding that he is an unusual wolf. Granted, he doesn’t know how unusual until he finally meets and speaks with others of his kind…
Declan is hysterical! A real man in a magical wolf’s clothing. I want to find one just like him! The fact he had never met another Fenerec was an eye opener. And that he starts the show in drag! And he throws Desmond in the snow! Laughed my butt off. Finally someone who bests Desmond! And the whole “Bob” thing. Such a kick!
Tom Clancy, move over. Lots of action and an unexpected take on the usual male/female encounter. Truly did not see that coming. A hair too much on the family banter—it just missed being padding which the story definitely did not require.. I’m anxious to get the next one.
This book is amazing. I love shifter books and am loving this one. Declan is awesome in his drive to keep his morals in the face of all the rising crap he has to deal with. I love the way the wolves influence each other and how their instincts are so intertwined with their human half.
Ohhh i fucking loved this book. Delcan i fell in love with. He is awesome and funny. I needed more poole to die but at least we got rid of the bitch. Now just need a few more deaths and to see what happens next. So many questions left unanswered but the correct way. I kneed the next book now
A fascinating read once I figured out why the main character was dressed that way. But..why were the Feneric fighting over Declan one minute and leaving him behind without even looking for him the next?
Above all, surviver and veteran. If James Bond was an art thief and superb cook, it would be "Bob. ". Really look forward to sequel Wild Hunt. For the first time he has met W&W pack.
Action, adventure, alternate universe with werewolves (I mean Fenerec). Former special operator who also happens to be a shifter, meets some of our more beloved wolves from previous stories and things just keep getting wilder!
RJ Blain is one of my favorite authors but this book was tough to read. I put it down 4 or 5 times and had to force myself to pick it back up every time. The first half of the book is painful. The book finally starts to get interesting about halfway through.
I have enjoyed every book by R.J. Blain that I have read and this one was not different. I really like Declan, Anthony and Lane, they fit in with Richard, Nicole, Desmond, the Anderson twins and the others. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
James Bond, the Saint and Jack Ryan mixed together, given snark and made a werewolf - that is Declan! So when do we get the next book in this grouping? (This is me jonesing for my fix!!!!)
