I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

After I finished the first book of the series, i.e.“Cathian”, I was expecting more stories about Tryleskians and their strange feeding rituals when they are in heat.
Surprisingly, we got a story about another member of the Vorge spaceship. And he is entirely new species. So there are different customs about his mating. Dovis is huge, scary and very very hairy. He also dislikes humans.
Mari is an ex-slave who was raised on a vessel repair station. And she is very much human. She is small, timid and very good at her job. When she starts working at Vorge she gradually learns all Dovis' secrets.
Dovis likes isolation. He feels free and he can be himself when he is in his own cabin alone. And then he realises that Mari had witnessed all the changes that happen to his body when he thinks that nobody is looking. And moreover he likes her. A lot. And he wants to protect her. How did this thing happen to him?
Soon Mari will prove her trustworthiness and her loyalty to the captain and the crew of Vorge and Dovis will not be able to let her go.
Well, this story is truly fantastic. Lots of sci-fi elements and wild imagination. You may consider it as an alternative of the werewolf myth in space.

What's a girl to do?
This was really sweet! Dovis, the grumpy dog-man from the previous book, here is still grumpy at the beginning, but we get to see also his sweetness behind his grumpiness!
Mari was excellent too! She's the perfect slave - she was not abused in any way, but she earned safe heaven from her master by working heard and being obedient.
When she gets her freedom and borders on Vorge, she continues like that and she doesn't understand why everybody is urging to slow down! Her confusion was excellently done!
Dovis and Mari's love story is sweet and tender. Dovis needs some convincing, but Mari is very convinced and doesn't mince words to explain everything to Dovis!

It seems Mis Dohner has gotten quiet lazy with her writing. So far, this series doesn’t come close to her previous ones.
A couple things that bugged me:
1. The hero and heroine barely had any interaction by the middle of the story and this wasn’t a long book to begin with. I had to read the same details I read in the previous book over and over again.
2. The hero tried to hump and dump the heroine on multiple occasions. “Hey thanks for the sex “again” but you should avoid me from now on. Kthanksbye.”- our hero.
3. All that time wasted in the beginning of the book makes the romance and love part feel super forced and unromantic.
4. The dialogue between the different alien species was off putting. The author makes all of the characters sound like brainless surfer bros in the cringiest sitcom you’ve ever seen.
5. We get to hear details of the heros last brothel visit. Isn’t that just the best? And of course the heroine is a virgin whos so sheltered she doesn’t even know what sex is.
And last but not least: I will not be reading the next book in this series or possibly any other after. The hero of the next book kept complaining about not getting laid in this book but yet we still get to hear about him visiting brothels. Yeah, fuck that. 🖕

Esta segunda parte es un poco mas floja que la anterior, pero aun asi cumple su funcion de mantenerte entretenida durante un par de horas, ademas es tan ligera de leer que se convierte en la opcion perfecta para una tarde de verano en la playa o en la piscina.
Personalmente no pienso que The Vorge Crew sea una saga inolvidable o imprescindible pero si disfrutas de esta tematica o de el trabajo de Laurann Dohner estoy segura de que pasaras muy buenos momentos con estas novelas.
A por York que voy, por la sinopsis tiene pinta de que sera una historia muy divertida.

This picks up not long after the first book.
We are introduced to Mari, the newly freed slave who accepts her first job as a mechanic aboard the Vorge.
She's brave yet fearful of being sent away.
Dovis is dead set against having a new crew member. He's just a cantankerous curmudgeon. Well, a curmudgeon with secrets. Lots of secrets...
I enjoyed this one much more than the first book. It wasn't nearly as predictable and I kinda wish it had been a bit longer to savour they're getting closer for longer. It wraps up quickly and gets a little syrupy at the end. But in a good way ; )
I loved the way LD crafted Mari's character to reflect her years (since she was 10) of enslavement. She is now 25(?) and speaks very matter of factly about her history. No self-pitying whining here folks!
Dovis' character changes a bit too quickly because it's such a short story. But I thought they worked well together.
Cathian was still sweet when he talks about Nara. York and Marrow are still humorous. We get a bit more info on the mysterious Raff.
All in all a very satisfying read!

Just in case I can’t tell you later, thank you for hiring me. Freedom was wonderful. There’s no family to notify if I don’t make it.
Gah!!! These two were so emo and I loved it. Mari was sold as a child since she was too young to become a sex slave they had her help engineers and mechanics fix ships because she was so thin and small she could fit anywhere. Because she was so smart she became valuable. A valuable slave is a commodity worth protecting. Dovis was thrown away after he was born because he was different. He was picked up by an old woman and grew up knowing hate in all its forms. These two were so hurt by life and I swear I ate it all up. I really enjoyed the feels in this story. It was strong and so emotional and just worked very well.
Side note, I read this in one sitting at the LAX airport waiting for my connecting flight home. I’m so tired. Even more tired than before and I can’t stop. York’s story is next and the Raff. Oh, Raff. I already know I’m going to love his story.

I am loving this series. Dovis was an amazing hero and Mari was sweet and strong to survive what she did. I can't wait for York and Raff's books!

Nice , but there’s sadly not much to this...
Would I recommend this ?
No, not really ...... Why ? Because there’s not really much here ,there really isn’t .....
Nara and Cathian didn’t have quite as meat on it’s bones really as you need in a story you want to tease again and again, especially once you got past all the sex,but sadly this story is just about all bones barely any meat at all....
In the first book,where we meet Dovis, we see someone angry and aggressive and possibly a tad mysterious.... We almost get the feeling that there might be layers to him to pull back and reveal an interesting character hiding behind all that angst and anger a aggression but sadly no....
No, here we quickly find out in this redundant redundancy that is this story, that other than Dovis pushing sweet Mari away time after after time, we keep rehashing the facts about his past and his birth and his difference between him and his ppl over and over and over same ground constantly covered w/both him and Mari..... we never really learn anything all that new, all the while our gruff aggressive Dovis acts constantly insecure and does his best to act like a set of taps over a sink or tub running hot and cold and cold and hot w/Mari....
Dovis got back and forth on whether e wants her,or should want her, or if she REALLY wants him to make you dizzy and to wonder if he’s really a high school girl in disguise....
And really that’s all there was.....
There’s not character growth really,it’s made to sound like by the end of the book Mari has been n there at least a month or more, when one minute Dovis is getting rather close to her and the next he’s avoiding her,sleeping with her next ,( you guessed it) avoiding her what was weird was the avoiding felt like just a day or two but Mari is then saying Dovis has been avoiding her for weeks ..... weeks ?
That was weird,this book felt like it all happened in about a week two tops....
Mari is sweet but sadly this lacks the depth or the length needed to get see just who Mari could be now that she’s free...
Might ave been interesting....... Sane with Dovis we get his history and his fears thrown at us over and over it felt but nothing sadly to explain his mean,angry grouchy exterior before this,he’s been traveling w/Cathian and co. for a while ,nothing to explain exactly why he is like he is and not a lot of growth til the very end til he finally lets Mari and the others in .... while Mari makes sense,why he’s kept the others at a distance doesn’t ....
Honestly once this is a full and complete series,I feel you could skip this one and not miss a thing .....
Deep sigh, and really I’m starting to give up on this writer,I’ve tried just about all series now and I ON,Y like NS ( New Species) , and I’ve waited and waited and waited for about three years now for more for one my most favorite series, a series started I believe in her pre published days about 20 years ago,and if she didn’t put out a new book very often, sassy like some only one a year or something I’d understand...
but that’s not the case,VLG alone is up to 10 books,and then new abs revamped Cyborg books, plus that series started with Kele Moon,and this ?
While I don’t feel I have the right to tell a writer what to write,and when Ms.Dohner would say on FB how someone had been a jerk and itched at her and strongly complained at her for neglecting NS I felt that person itching at her was wrong ,we don’t have the right to dictate to the writer what she should do just because it’s what we want....
But here’s the but,after reading a book like this, that honestly falls soo incredibly flat,yet another book,story,series that isn’t the unwanted “step child “ NS feels like it’s become ,I feel like we readers are do some respect as well ....
I sit here and sit here and sit here ( I do move ;P ) waiting and waiting and waiting to buy the next NS book but instead this blink and you miss it story is put out instead, I’m hurt...
I can’t say how unimportant I feel as reader to Ms.Dohner,instead of of giving us characters we love and cherish we’re given the empty calories of a piece of fluff like this ,”Numbers” the last book made up of two novellas was better than both books in this series combined ...
Heck,just one of those stores Mourn and Dana or Hero and Candi could beat this ....
I’m sorry but I give up..... as a NS only reader, I feel I just don’t matter if this is what you’d rather do....

Poor Mari didn't know how to "not" be a slave. She's very meek and it takes her a while to get some backbone. Dovis saves Mari but then can't really deal with the fallout. I'm glad he shows her his softer side.

Sold into slavery at age 10 by her own parents, Mari has excelled at proving her worth for her masters. The time has come for her current owner to retire but rather than hand over Mari's ownership, her master gives Mari the gift of freedom.
Now a mechanic on the Vorge, Mari is finding it hard not being a slave, going out of her way to prove her worth for the ship's captain, Cathian Vellar. It's Dovis, head of security, however, who proves to be the most challenging as he makes it known he wants her gone, especially after a ship wide engine malfunction leaves them dead in space, vulnerable.
Dovis protects the Vorge taking his role seriously as the crew of misfits has become the only real family he's ever had. When a new crew member joins, Dovis is suspicious though the captain says he's adequately vetted Mari so Dovis needs to accept and respect her or be fitted with a shock collar that will be used to motivate him to.
As the second human aboard the Vorge, Mari struggles to fit in, especially when she starts to develop feelings she's never had for someone she's not suppose to.

Second installment in "The Vorge" series that can be read as an independent stand alone story.
This is a feel good SciFi paranormal adult content romance that includes superficial angst and mystery-suspense elements. Of note and vague non-spoiler pet peeve observation: it's confusing (and irritating) when a book cover portrays a hottie model that's inconsistent with the majority of the story line. Just sayin'
The romance between the main characters is a sort of push and pull game that didn't work as the length of this story didn't allow for more than superficial basics. Doesn't mean I didn't appreciate and enjoy the totality of the story, only an observation.
The secondary characters drew me in the most as they were different species with their own unique personalities adding to the diversity of world building. The return of Cathian & Nara, Cathian (The Vorge Crew #1), along with York, Raff, Midgel, & Marrow, are sure to appeal to different fan readers in different degrees. Well, except for the Pods who I'm not sure COULD. Regardless, for me it's Raff & York.
I did appreciate this story and will be reading future installments though the superficial depth in world building and romance in this story were irritating. For fans of this author or for readers of SciFi romance in general, this is one to check out though the reading experience won't encompass any true depth or problematic angst to resolve.

I did appreciate this story and will be reading future installments though the superficial depth in world building and romance in this story were irritating. For fans of this author or for readers of SciFi romance in general, this is one to check out though the reading experience won't encompass any true depth or problematic angst to resolve.

I loved the beginning funny and cunning I LOVED it!
Mari kind of broke my heart a little she hasn’t had the easiest time at life until now. She doesn’t understand that free means exactly that.
Dovis’s character is a favorite of mine. He shows this big scary side of himself because he is afraid of rejection. So he doesn’t let anything or anyone in. And he can’t see why Mari would be attracted to him.
Mari really comes into herself and learns to not only trust herself but her crew and she teaches Dovis to trust too. It really is a great and touching story. I am loving this series.
The narration was FANTASTIC! I loved the voice and the tone Summer gives, her performance was amazing!

This one suffers a bit of a sophomore slump, as we've met the crew and their foibles, so now we just need to follow the newbie as she finds her place on the ship. The build-up was very good, and their first times together were quite passionate, but the ending felt very truncated. I'll read the next one to see whether this is a trend, or an anomaly, as I like the style and the situation.

I'm just not sure what the point was. Nothing really happens aside from too much "we mustn't, we will, we can't, I need you, but no, but yes" back and forth. Needed more external conflict, but that was over in a flash and then it was all internal and kinda silly conflict at that.

I really enjoyed this one though it certainly ended too soon for me. It took the two a while to even hook up and then from there things just steamrolled until the end. Dovis has a bad rap and given that Mari was a slave until she became part of the Vorge crew, she cares little about his past and/or what's acceptable or unacceptable. Honestly I think Dovis is kinda bullied a bit, mostly by Nara from book one. I mean regardless if he actually looks like a werewolf or not, that's kinda mean to constantly say to his face and refer to him as Dog, just sayin'. Needless to say Mari doesn't care, then again she also knows some secrets about Dovis and he isn't always what he appears. The two are perfect together and as a previous slave Mari can't fathom the thought of not working or earning her keep, but luckily she's beyond skilled as a mechanic so everyone wins. Enjoyed this one, don't think I'll read on only cause York appears to be a dog (guess I should rephrase.... man-whore) and really that's just not my thing.

If you like Dohner's Cyborg series, you'll like this. Her stuff has been hit or miss with me lately (not a fan of all the VLG books) but this really hit the spot if you're looking for something like her Cyborgs. Loved it!

I loved this book! It was the perfect mix of plot and romance. I wish it was a little bit longer, I wasn't ready to let them go. Another great book in this series. Can't wait for the rest!

This was an interesting story to listen to. Dovis turned out to be likable after all. I wasn't too sure after book 1. Nara was kind of annoying in this book but it did not take away from the story. Mari was a recently freed slave who came to work on their ship and Dovis was stoic in his resolve that they did not need anyone. Once he meets Mari he feels protective of her and is unsure why. She is scared of him initially but after he saves her life she becomes interested.

Our werewolf-like hero Dovis is the security officer on board of the Vorge and had scared their maintenance officer into resigning. So captain Cathian (from book 1) took on a new mechanic who used to be a slave on a repair station and who just happened to be human, same as the captain's mate.
Our heroine Mari was sold by her human parents when she was 10 and has never known life except as a slave. She tried to work hard so as not to anger her owner and managed to make her owner heaps of money repairing ships. So when her owner decided to retire, he was good enough to free her and find her a safe job on board the Vorge. When the Vorge was attacked by pirates, Mari risked her life and saved the ship.
Dovis goes from being suspicious of Mari to saving her life using his hidden abilities. But then he blows hot and cold, thinking Mari can't really like him. Mari goes from being really timid to standing up for herself. So we do see some growth from both main characters. All in all, another short and enjoyable read.

Mari has spent her life as a slave, but she knows compared to other humans she has had it easy. She was raised on a space vessel doing repairs and is now an engineer. So, she is shocked when her master grants her freedom and gets her a job aboard another vessel – the Vorge – as an engineer. Where she will be paid for her work. Dovis isn’t happy about the human engineer on his ship, especially as she works hard enough to make everyone else look lazy. But, it is their mutual attraction that he really can’t stand, can the timid and sweet engineer tame the beast?
This book…so adorable! It was the sci fi version of beauty and beast, with the eager to please Mari taming Dovis our surly head of security. Although the story line offers nothing new, it was such a cute and sexy story that it had me falling in love with both Mari and Dovis.
Also…werewolf in space.

It's interesting that my first review stated I liked the first book better because over time this is the one that has stuck out in my memory. I think it's the story dynamic that pulls me back. We have this guy who really is not a fan of humans, but no matter how much he tries, he can't find a reason to hate our MFC. The push and pull is what makes this memorable.

These stories could be epic. Seriously good. I'm intrigued and entertained and I want to know more. But these are very short and very lacking in depth. As I said, I wished these were actual book-length romances instead of romantic erotica novellas, because it could have been awesome.

Mari es pequeña, tímida y débil. Se asusta demasiado y él gruñe todo el tiempo. Sin embargo, todo cambia después de una mordida para salvarle la vida.

First of I love Dovis and Mari. They are super cute together. Yes everything happens quite fast but it still works for me. I also loved to get to know the story of Dovis and it was great getting to know Mari, since she was knew to the crew. I wish there would have been a little more about her but it’s also fine the way it is.
Besides that I just like this crew a lot and Laurann Dohner is great with writing thrilling scenes. Even thought this didn’t had a lot of dangerous situations I still enjoyed the one she included here.
However as much as I loved this book there was something that I didn’t like and that’s when both Cathian and Raff told Dovis to take advantage of Mari and that didn’t sit well with me. It felt so wrong that they said this. This actually makes me skeptical about reading Raffs book. (I am still going to read it but I think I might not like it, if he is like that in his own.)
I still decided to give this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the most part of this book a lot and I am a little biased because I like what I read of the author a lot in general.

I listened to this book on Audible Escape. It was a short, fast read story line.
Mari, a human sold at a very young age to her alien owner. He decides to free her for her loyalty, and she is lucky to be hired as chief engineer on his spaceship.
Dovis is an alien, he is likes to stay to himself, he and Cathian are best friends. But, when he meets the beautiful, sweet and shy Mari, he is attracted to her.
This particular book doesn't have alot of action or suspense, it's basically a slow burn romance between Dovis and Mari. I liked it, and now I am on to Book 3!
