The Three Musketeers
Follow the adventures of young D'Artagnan as he travels to Paris to join the legendary King’s Musketeers. Almost immediately, he finds himself caught up in a dangerous world of espionage, treachery and murder. The thrills never stop in this action-packed picture strip adaptation of the classic swashbuckling adventure story. Matteo Pincelli’s colourful, dynamic illustrations bring the classic story to life. Great story.

This will serve as a great introduction to the classic. I personally benefit from having some sort of visual to think back to when approaching a story with an old and foreign setting, and names that I’m not accustomed to. This book serves well for that, and in a bright clean art style. I’ve read a few Usborne graphic novels and this one has a bit more of an anime feel to the characters.
⚠️ Parental Warning ⚠️
The sword fighting violence is not portrayed graphically.
There is a quick scene/cell in which a female character says that a man wanted her to be his lover, and then abused her for rejecting him.

This was actually my first graphic novel. It felt strange and not something I’d rush to do again. Tbh if you like this story then read the Dumas version.

True to the original story, thank goodness, and a good introduction to the classic.

Good way to learn the story of the 3 musketeers without having to read the whole book - also helpful to know all the musketeers' names for crossword puzzle purposes! Not sure if I want to go ahead and read the actual book now or not, unlike with the Sea Wolf where the graphic novel really excited me to read the real thing.

50/50 Book Quest category: Classic (because I will not read the actual book of this classic novel, ha ha).
This was a nice version of The Three Musketeers written for a junior audience. Easy to read and understand and not too nefarious. :) And I'm glad it gave me a good foundation of the story because I do not think I could ever bring myself to read the actual novel. :)

September 18, 2022Not a bad read. Strange because they (of course) had to cut a lot of stuff out, but overall not bad.

A nice retelling of the classic novel and an introduction to it (that is not nearly as long as the original:). Matteo Pincelli's illustrations are simple and lively and there's plenty of action.
