Ed Sheeran is a true inspiration. His moving and uplifting songs forge a lasting connection with the millions of people around the world who love him and his music.

He was the thirteen-year-old guitarist in a school rock band when he decided to become a singer-songwriter, even though he could barely hold a tune and had never written a song. Within a year, he had recorded an album in his bedroom.

Bestselling biographer Sean Smith traces the astonishing journey of the shy little boy with a stammer who, avoiding flashy showmanship, grew up to be a global phenomenon.

Through compelling new research and interviews, he tells the story of Ed’s remarkable mum and dad who gave their son the courage to pursue his dream, the friends and mentors who encouraged him and the lovers who inspired his most famous songs.

Smith describes the setbacks Ed faced before his fortunes were transformed by Elton John’s management company, a record deal and a song that changed everything – with a little help from Taylor Swift.

Ed found it difficult to cope with the world at his feet, but a new relationship with a girl from his home town has brought him happiness and a fresh purpose in life.

Now he is the most successful solo star on the planet, earning £83 million last year. Yet in the middle of his record-breaking 2018 UK tour, he played for just 400 people at a charity night to raise money for the homeless.

As this captivating book reveals, there’s no one quite like Ed.

I do enjoy reading biographies so when I saw this book about Ed Sheeran I was keen to read it. I enjoy listening to his music but knew very little of his life otherwise.
Biographer Sean Smith covers many celebrities in his other books so perhaps understandably I found this book less personal and more stating facts that may be already known to more avid followers than me. He writes of Ed Sheeran's early life when he suffered with a stammer, his family background and the massive support he received off his parents. Smith goes on to tell of his search for fame, Ed's musical influences and the path to the success he is today.
I found it an interesting read but I would not detailed and personal for bigger fans than me.
I would like to thank both Net Galley and Diversion Books for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Read via Cloudlibrary!

This was a very good biography on the singer Ed Sheeran. It was interesting to learn more about his background, how he got into songwriting and just reading that section about releasing the song 'The A Team' bought back personal memories for me. Lots of new facts and perfect for any fans of Ed Sheeran!

I love Ed Sheeran songs and many are classics. They remind me of kisses, weddings and my own love story with my husband.
This man is so talented and I couldn’t wait to read this. It’s a pretty straight forward Bio and I enjoyed learning about his family and all the musicians that influenced him. Some were Eric Clapton, Eminem, Green Day, Guns N’ Roses and Damien Rice just to name a few.
Ed Sheeran is nothing short of super persistent, enthusiastic and FEARLESS. He has in my opinion earned every right to be heard and become a famous talented singer/songwriter.
“Songwriting and playing the guitar are like having a direct line to my thoughts and feelings. Everyone has strong feelings whatever their age. We can all feel love, joy, longing, pain and hate.” -Ed Sheeran, Spinning Man

This is was a NETGALLEY gift and all opinions are my own.

This biography spans Ed Sheeran's life up until mid 2018 just after the release of Divide.

The book was simultaneously too gossipy and not gossipy enough. There's almost nothing in here that an average fan doesn't know. I doubt that the author ever spoke to Ed Sheeran or anyone close to him. It felt like Sean Smith "just" gathered information that was already available and put it in this book.

Yes, I learnt something but only because I wasn't really interested in Ed Sheeran's personal life to begin with. I would never have picked this up if my mom hadn't given this to me for Christmas. And to be totally honest, I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't found the audio book on my library app..

I am an Ed Sheeran fan, but I hate non fiction, so this seemed like a great idea, force myself out of my reading comfort zone and learn more about my favourite artist. And I was right, this was a Christmas gift and I'm so happy I read it, It took a long time to read - with pages filled with information - it was so worth it, definitely recommend if you want something different, definitely recommend reading a fiction book alongside to not get in a reading slump, unless this is your preferred genre.

I do love Ed with a passion. Without Ed in the early days of adulthood, I don't think i would have become who I am today. Ed kept me sane in an insane world. The lyrics related to my everyday life from the first song I listened to (Don't) to his current music. I liked hearing about Ed's history and how he was before he became a famous artist.

However, most of the stuff I found in the book I could have found from wikipedia if I really wanted to. There didn't really need to be all the waffle around what he did. I was hoping for more behind the scenes things that people wouldn't know already, seemed a bit weird seeing as most of what was in the book was generic and basic.

I listened to the book on audible and noticed that the narrator was very monotoned which made the book difficult to listen to and follow.

Honestly, not much I wouldn't have found online if I were looking for Ed's life story.
Sean Smith is clearly a good writer, but a lot of the book has definitely been padded out to fill in pages with Ed's short life so far. Like 4 pages to describe his childhood street and driveway.

The book starts from his early musical start as a kid and runs up to the first leg of the Divide tour in 2018. Most of the focus is on his youth and the hard work that got him to where he is now. Clearly Smith's sources were those who knew Ed when he was younger. Because there's lots on his early days as a musician, but not so much on his recent successes. Almost nothing about his gap year and relationship to his current wife.

Regardless, a pretty good picture painted of who Ed is, his self-made image, and the reasons behind his popularity. But perhaps more interviews with the man himself would have made this biography stand out better.

Although I really love Ed Sheeran's music and overall think he's an awesome guy, this book was rather a letdown. The whole book was just a big description, it lacked emotion, for me it was kind of bland. There was just one name after the other (people Ed wrote songs with and Ed's girlfriends). What also bothered me was the amount of speculation in the book. If the author wasn't sure of the facts, he shouldn't have included them in the book.
The author did manage to put together a detailed story of how Ed's musical career developed so that's the great part of the book. It's definitely a great read for those who are in it for the facts not emotions.

In 2018, when Sean Smith published his biography of Ed Sheeran, who, at that point, was still touring for his 2017 album, ÷ (pronounced 'divide'), Ed was just twenty-seven years old. It is questionable as to whether somebody can truly have enough of a story to write a biography about so few years of their life, but Smith has done an excellent job with doing so. This book does not tell the story of Ed Sheeran's life with music woven throughout it, but rather it is the other way round. The most enjoyable part of this biography, for me, was that it was so intensely focused on the music.

The book begins with the author detailing an Ed Sheeran concert which he attended on 24th June 2018. When I read this, I was overjoyed, as I had also seen Ed Sheeran on the same leg of his ÷ tour, just a few days prior to when Smith did, 15th June at Wembley Stadium. After the very first few pages of the prologue, I was hooked, because I felt that I could relate to the author and his experiences.

However, even if you are not a fan of Ed Sheeran and his music, I believe that this book would appeal to you, too. Ed Sheeran: The Biography' is not just the story of Ed Sheeran, but also the story of a hard working boy who proved that an artist does not need big fancy record labels to make it to the big time - as of 2021, Ed has sold over 150 million records, and two of his albums are on the list of the bestselling albums of all time (X at #20 and ÷ at #34).

This is another hugely enjoyable, extremely interesting biographical book from author Sean Smith, whose books have been translated throughout the world and have frequently topped the Sunday Times' Best Sellers List. I believe that it is the go-to for any and all fans of music, though those with a love of the musical genius that is Ed Sheeran.

Let me start out by saying I am a fan of Ed Sheeran's music. I was gifted this audiobook with the understanding that I would leave an honest review. Well, honestly I so enjoyed this biography. This book is very honest and refreshing. I can honestly say it has made me even more of a fan. The book has shown me how Ed comes up with his lovely words and music. I loved hearing about his childhood and his parent, and grandparents. I also loved all the beautiful stories of how Ed has given joy to someone who has needed it. We could all learn something from this man! The narrator Ian Pringle was the perfect choice for the voice for the story too. Ian does a great job of keeping the story moving along. I will say I did find myself looking up a few Youtube videos of Ed's after they were described in the book. Very fun.

I thought this was a very well researched biography of Ed Sheeran. He has been one of my all time favorite singers EVER and it was amazing to be able to read about him and how he all started. It was very interesting how the author spent a long time with Ed and gathering all the information and interviews with Ed and everyone around him who helped him become who he is today. I kind of liked how each person that Ed comes in contact with the author does a little back story of them. The only thing that this novel did from making it a full five star is the last chapter. I do not get that chapter what so ever. What does Ed star sign have anything to do with him as a person. What was the point of that chapter? I basically flipped to the end because the star stuff did not agree with me.

In my opinion, Ed Sheeran is a gifted lyricist and musician. Sean Smith's biography explains Sheeran's life from childhood to the present. I liked the book. It took me a long time to read it (several months).

I only didn't give it a 5-star rating because of the way the text reads on the paper. I like to see white space in-between paragraphs, especially with books that have a lot of details. It was harder for me to read. Also, I liked the typeface and appreciated the photographs. The timeline and index made it easy for me to follow. I could see this book used for students who are researching and writing papers about him.

Overall, I recommend this book if you are an Ed Sheeran fan.

Kirjoitin kirjasta vinkin, jonka voit kokonaisuudessaan lukea täällä:

I love Ed Sheeran and was very excited to read more about his life and how he got to the point where he is now.

But the writing in this wasn't my favourite. In my opinion there was too much "space fillers" about telling the backrounds of people who at somepoint met Ed and for me those were just not so important side notes.

Helmet lukuhaaste 2020 kohta 3. Kirja, johon suhtaudut ennakkoluuloisesti.
