The Krave of Everton #2

Prince of Firestones

Rate this book
When Eve Tesler booked a visit with one of Madame Allegria’s Krave, notorious alien lovers with special, non-human skills between the sheets, she never thought that she’d fall in love with him…or learn about the dark secrets behind the well-known brothel.

Now, after escaping from Everton with Khiva, they land on Dumera, a neutral colony where they hope to start a future together without having to hide in shadows. But the memory of Madame Allegria and the Krave they’d had to leave behind still haunt them, as does the memory of Khiva’s missing mother and brother.

To complicate matters, as they begin to navigate life together in a new, strange place, something unthinkable happens: Eve becomes pregnant.

PRINCE OF FIRESTONES (43,000+ words) is a follow-up/spin-off novel to KRAVING KHIVA, which should be read first.

The Krave of Everton:

Kraving Khiva: Eve and Khiva
Prince of Firestones: Eve and Khiva

I have a strong dislike of multiple books that follow one couple, so while my bias is screaming, “This could have been one book!”, I don’t think that’s actually true.

This is a continuation of Evelyn and Khiva‘s story. We learn what happened in Khiva’s past and about his family while also watching him and Evelyn build their life together.

Prince of Firestones answered most of the questions and provided closure for what was discussed in Kraving Khiva. For me, that was enough. Although it totally could’ve been one book (but not really).

This book was fine, but it felt like an extended epilogue instead of a book.

Not much happens regarding the issues that were left unsolved in the last book. The other Krave who stayed on Everton are never shown in this book.

I was mostly bored as nothing really happens, and even if something did happen, it was in the background and mostly talked about instead of shown.

I don’t think I’m going to continue with this series as neither of the first 2 books showed side characters properly, and this book was boring.

Better

I enjoyed book 2 much more then book 1. I felt more connected to the characters and the story was easier to read and more enjoyable.

After escaping from Everton and now living on Dumera, their new home colony, Eve and Khiva were very happy. Their dwelling was built within the jivera tree branches because the ground was too soft to support the structures. But they were surrounded by calm peacefulness and loved their new home. They just wished they could do something for the friends they left behind.

As Khiva boarded the transport to his job in the mines, he had to search for a seat. It took a moment to realize that the man he sat next to was also Keriv’i like him, and he was even more surprised that he recognized Kavik, a close friend of Khiva’s younger brother! He hadn’t seen him in the twelve years since their planet Kerivu had been destroyed. But maybe he knew what had happened to Khiva’s mother and brother since then?

Kavik explained that he had been a prisoner of the cruel Jetu to recreate firestones since their fuel resources had been severely restricted since they partnered with those who had destroyed Kerivu. But since only Khiva’s direct line knew how to create the firestones, Kavik had been unable to help them. Although Kavik had not seen Khiva’s family, he had heard that Dhrika, an old friend of his mother, and was given a way to contact him. Would Khiva be able to finally find his family? How would he react to the secret that Eve is about to reveal? Will they find a way to rescue their friends they had to leave behind at the mercy of the cruel Madame Allegria on Everton? There is so much more coming – don’t miss out!

I was most delightfully surprised when I read the first book in this series, Kraving Khiva so when I saw this one was out I couldn’t get it and read it fast enough.

At only 191 pages, it’s a short story but the shortness of it didn’t take away the enjoyment of this follow up story of Khiva and Eve, the H/H of the first book. This one picks up soon after they have left the planet for the brighter and more accepting planet of Dumera. While once Khiva was almost royalty on his home planet, his life went to hell when it was destroyed. This was all covered in the first book and now they are living and loving together and life is so much better. But there are still issues that keep them from being completely happy. Khiva is still torn over his missing mother and brother. They disappeared when the planet was destroyed and he’s been trying to find word of them ever since. And while Eve is doing well as a book cataloguer, Khiva is working at a dangerous and demanding job in the mines on Dumera. And while it’s still a long way down from once he what was it’s still a lot better than being a sex slave for a sadist like he was doing. They are both still concerned about the people they left behind and work towards saving them.

There’s not a lot of action in this book, more of a look into how they are doing. I love this. So many times we finish a book and wonder how they are doing after the book is finished and here we get to see. Eve and Khiva are still desperately in love with each other and they author does so very well in getting this across to the reader. There are a few bumps along the way but there’s never a question that they will always be together. I enjoyed this one just as much if not a wee bit more than Kraving Khiva.

A note though. One should not read this one without have read the first book. If not, the reader will be completely lost. Ms Draven has plans for more books in this series about those still in their own hell. Since we’ve ‘met’ them in the first book I know I’m going to be getting the next book when it’s released the day it’s released and plan to start reading it right away. As I said in my review of Kraving Khiva, these books and this author are a wonderful example of why I love this genre so much.

This series is way better if you read the books in order.
This book picks up where Khiva and Eve's adventure left off.

They have left Everton and are making a new life for themselves on Dumera.
Khiva and Eveline’s relationship had evolved, and Eve finds out that she is pregnant.

Khiva runs into another Keriv’i named Kavik, who tells him that his mom and little brother are gone. With Kavik's encouragement, Khiva starts making firestones again.

My thoughts:
I thought the world-building was really good.
Khiva and Eve's love for each other is really sweet.

A satisfying - but not spectacular - ending to the two-book series, which also had more cases of missing words and other editing issues.
'Prince' could have done without one long sex scene, which I believe was created to add to the word count rather than enhancing the story. It also had less action than the first book.
I still liked the H/h - Khiva and Eve, as they were very relatable. (I really love Khiva, and not just because he was a blue alien hottie. lol) Draven did a good job with the characters, as one was able to understand their motivations and feelings.

"This gift is priceless, leeldra. Just like you.

This story picks up about two months after the end of Kraving Khiva, with Eve and Khiva living happily on their new home planet. It's more novella length, and really just ties up some loose ends from the first book

I liked getting to see these two really settled and in a domestic relationship, without the awful Madam in their way.

Yet another book that solves none of the problems presented in the first one regarding the enslaved and abused Krave. FREE THEM. PLEASE.

The resolutions to Khiva's grief for his family was nice but I'll be honest I skimmed a bit of this book because I just did not care anymore. I would have really liked to see them make some sort of progress in helping the other Krave who are still stuck with Madame Allegria.

Quick(ish) Review

Continuation from first book but there’s truly not much as far as tension, more of a resolution to some dangling threads for Khiva and Eve. Strictly for completion of their story, not a standalone.

Prince of Firestones is the second book in The Krave of Everton series and is a quick, fun read with lots of steam and spice. I don't mind reading these alien, human, fated mates tropes because they are sci-fi, and anything goes. It is quite a nice distraction from normal life for a few hours, especially if it is Zoey Draven. Her writing style is easy and inviting.

Re-reading this series again because apparently I didn't leave a review the first time.

Summary:
Science fiction alien/human romance. Khiva and Eve have escaped their old lives and made a new home for themselves, but it isn't all plain sailing. Expect some sex - surprisingly little compared to the first book - and a bit of angst.

Whereas Kraving Khiva tells the story of how Khiva and Eve met and fell in love, Prince of Firestones revolves around their day-to-day lives on Dumera, a neutral colony where they hope to live peacefully.

Instead, drama unfolds as Khiva deals with memories of his missing mother and brother, the toll of working in the mines and the discovery of Eve’s pregnancy. In addition, both Eve and Khiva want to free all of the other Krave who are still in servitude at Madame Allegria’s on Everton and have set a meeting with a United Worlds representative to hopefully open an investigation of the Madame’s misconduct.

And in this time of turmoil, the very foundation of their relationship is shaken.

Can they find their way through all of these issues and, in the end, come out stronger? Does Khiva find his missing mother and brother? Does he continue to toil in the mines or does he make other choices? How does Eve’s pregnancy effect their relationship? Lastly, do they make any progress in bringing Madame Allegria to justice?

This is a wonderful love story that keeps you engaged!

I voluntarily read an exclusive copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.

This story follows Khiva and Eve from the first book in this series Kraving Khiva. This is not a stand alone. You really must read the first story. The couple has left Everton and moved to Dumera. It is a slower paced lifestyle and the main industry is mining. The homes are in the jivera trees. Khiva works in the mines by day and Eve works in the archives. In this story, Khiva finally gets word about his family and what happened to them after his planet was destroyed. And Eve has a little news herself. Also, Khiva discovers his brother's best friend, Kavik, is on the planet. On his planet, Khiva was known as The Prince of Firestones. Can Kavik convince Khiva to give up mining and begin making firestones again?

This book is just a wonderful story about family and about putting the past in perspective. Prince of Firestones is not as steamy as the first book, but just as good. Really great story that is artfully woven. Can't wait for the next book about Dravka & Valerie! 4 stars!

Bittersweet

This was a very good wrap up for khiva and eve. I liked how we saw different side to their relationship not just happy or just trying to overcome a crazy or intense situations. We see both of those but also some angry, some intense, some passionate and some moments that were just everyday kinds of moments. But overall we really get to see these two characters grow and some of the fruits of their growth and their relationship. And while not every thing every ends up perfect in this story of real life the beautiful ending makes things feel a little bittersweet. Or we khiva was found of saying Death brings life. So while this couple got their HEA we have just enough loose ends to the into future stories and I can't wait to see what this author has in store. Good book would recommend.

Great wrap up of Khiva's and Eve's journey to their HEA!

For adults only (18+ years old). Contains subject matter that may be offensive or sensitive to some, including adult language, detailed intimate scenes and violence (references to previous events, kidnapping, etc.)

This series should be read in order, as Prince of Firestones is the second part of Khiva's and Eve's story. It begins about 2 months after the first ends.

I continue to enjoy Zoey's writing. She has crafted a story that has an easy flow and is easy to follow. Even though this is a SCIFI romance between a human and alien, it has the characters in situations that could be feasible IRL (all but the being in outer space thing ... :0)

Meh

There were a lot of words and repetition of information we already knew about the characters. It felt like filler info to make the book longer. Overall I felt as if I was reading book 1 again. I felt there could’ve been more about the characters. Also I was suspicious of certain characters the whole time and expected a big reveal or excitement. There wasn’t any. It’s a blasé read if you don’t have anything else to do pick it up.

Captivating Story

Loved It! The story picks up from where the previous ones left off and keeps your attention from beginning to end. It has everything you want in a romance about aliens and you won't be disappointed in any way? Highly recommended and waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.

This book continues the journey of Khiva and Eve. They have left Everton and are making a new life for themselves on Dumera. By happenstance, Khiva runs into another Keriv’i, Kavik. Kavik was best friends with his younger brother. Through him, he’s able to make contact with someone that might know where his mother and brother are. Through all this, and with encouragement from Kavik, he begins to make firestones again. There’s a quick update to their push for justice against Madame Allegria and where that stands. Nothing is really advanced on that front, but I’m hoping that there’s some resolution in a subsequent book.

I love this couple so much. I didn’t give it 5 stars, as I did Kraving Khiva, because it didn’t have the same level of emotional angst. Don’t get me wrong, there were still a lot of places that were tender or emotional, but nothing that left me raw like the last book. There’s no real villain or physical threats in this book. It’s almost like a long epilogue from the first book. But one that I thoroughly enjoyed. There is such a feeling of peaceful contentment at the end of this book. The feeling of pure unadulterated love between these two just warmed the cockles of my heart.

I do recommend this book, and the series. This really isn’t a standalone book. You need to read Kraving Khiva first. I’m looking forward to the next book, which will be Dravka and Valerie’s story.

3.5 Stars.

I really enjoy this author’s 2-part books and the fact that even though each part stands alone on its own, we get an insight into the HEA of the characters and how complex that can be. In this book, Khiva and Eve are newly settled on an independent planet but their happily ever after is complicated by Eve’s pregnancy, a blast from Khiva’s past and his renewed grief at the loss of his family.

I thought that overall, this was pretty good. I didn’t however think it needed to be a whole second book- perhaps this could have been part of Book 1 to create a more “complete-feeling” story even though I get why the author separated them as the vibes are very different. There was an opening left to continue the story of the remaining Kraves on new earth even though it was quite sad how unjust that the authorities could not or would not do anything about the exploitation of Kraves. This isn’t my favourite series by this author but I like the way she is playing with power and twisting the dynamics of slave and free on its head in this series.

This book is a shorter book and really should be more like a novella and is also a continuation of the first one. It is basically an extended Epilogue of the first book with the same male and female characters.

It basically is what their life is becoming after they left Everton and what they are doing to live and how their relationship is developing. In all honesty, aside from some key information about his people and his family, I almost feel like I could’ve lived without reading this book. There were some issues with their relationship, like almost like the “honeymoon” phase was ending and they were like, omg this is real life now. It killed the mood I felt for them in the first book.

However, there is still a happy ending at the end and they create a new life together. I think there is some details in this that maybe will help with the rest of the series, so for that reason, I think it’s a good read.

With that being said, I do plan to read more because I want to k who what happens with the next couple and I do still recommend the books.

Sweet Ending

*****Spoilers*****

Evelyn and Khiva have a little more to their story, this one short and sweet for the most part. Unfortunately we learn that Khiva's mother and brother died several years after having escaped their home planet that way destroyed. The chemistry between Khiva and Evelyn is the same as in the first book, the result of which is a pregnancy. They end up having a little girl who they name after Khiva's deceased mother. They try to get an investigation opened against the madam like promised but aren't successful with only the evidence they had though at least this time, the authority isn't corruptible from what's seen. Khiva was working in a mine on Demura but decided after discussion and thinking to begin making firestones once more which is much less hazardous. The book ends a bit abruptly but when I think about it, there's not much more to tell.

It's now 7/31/21 so ... oops :X
HAH! Ok while writing my ~review for book 1 I was like ... "wait ... wasn't ... Khiva ... the firestone prince? Whut?" but I'd ~forgotten how Zoey Draven likes to write 2 books on her main characters/ the first - lots of world building too - and <3

Eve and Khiva <3
They're such a perfect pair.
And I understand his reluctance - but I'm glad it's sorted out <3

I ... think I liked this book more than the first?

Definitely I would re-read these books.
X:

Unfortunately especially since I read these books back to back AND it was so long ago I have no idea where each book started/ended/what happened.

Pregnancy, hope, and despair.

This book tied up Khiva and Eve’s story with a pregnancy (because it’s sci fi) and their new life on the colony. Khiva has mental health issues because of all his trauma and is not able to talk about his past. This was the cause of most of the tiffs in this book. I’m always sad when futuristic books don’t have regular mental health coinciding, and psychologists were never mentioned in this book of the previous book. I like to fantasize about a future where everyone is mindful of mental health… but given the semi dystopian world Eve came from, it’s not surprising.

Spice: 4/5, moderate spice

Triggers: discussion of trafficking, tragedy, grief

Great story 😃

While this series is well worth reading, it sometimes is a bit long winded 😖. The first book took me a while to get through cuz it was so depressing at times 😣. Finally when the two main characters got away, I was hoping that more of the males would go with them 😐. This second book, I was hoping that would finally get away, but they didn't 😪. I'm planning on reading the next book and hoping Finally that MORE will happen 😉. So, Thanks again Zoey, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that more of the males will Finally get justice 🤓.

I really liked book one in this series but this follow up kind of dragged for me. It is basically an extended epilogue/novella follow up to book one. Seeing the main characters living their new life together was nice. I'm sure I'll continue the series eventually as I do like this world that Draven has created.
