I like Han and Jay. I was delighted when I saw that Ms. Faulkner had finally written another book in this M/M UF/PNR series, and interested in seeing how their recently-changed lives were developed when they were given center stage. Her heroes are never the typical arrogant alpha warriors too often found in the genre. Han's power, when he discovers it, it comic-book creepy-cool. They clearly love each other very much, with laughter, passion (often combined in bawdy teasing), and emotional support. Nevertheless, I'm not sure how I feel about the ruthless decisions that get made. "I'd do ANYTHING to protect those I love" is not necessarily the best choice to make. Ellis is sufficiently not himself at the time to get a tentative pass when he suggests part of it, seemingly casually.
I'm also not sure how I feel about the new character introduced, Frederick, who is ruthless w/o even feeling any pangs about it. I realize that I don't really "get" the aromantic-relationship concept: if two people care about each other, surely showing it would not be impossible, whether or not one is w/o the desire for "romance". If not, why would anyone be willing to get involved in such a connection, with the complications it entails?
Overall, I was less satisfied with it than I'd hoped, but certainly not to the degree that I won't eagerly get the next installment when it's written and released — and though this book does have a conclusion, it's quite clear that the story is not yet over, with big changes happening.
