From the ever original and wonderfully playful Viviane Schwarz comes a laugh-out-loud, theatrical first animal book for the very youngest of readers. Tiny Cat is playing dressing-up! She rolls up in a rug to become a snake - hiss! And with booties on her paws, she's a horse - neigh! In fact, with oodles of imagination, Tiny Cat can be any animal she wants to be! But does Tiny Cat have what it takes to be a fearless lion? Find out in this inventive picture book with an abundance of visual humour!
Viviane Schwarz is the author-illustrator of THERE ARE CATS IN THIS BOOK as well as SHARK AND LOBSTER'S UNDERSEA ADVENTURE. She grew up in Germany and now lives in London.
First sentence: Cat. Purr. Mouse. Squee. Elephant. Toot. Bird. Tweet.
Premise/plot: Tiny Cat is playing dress up. She is dressing up as other animals. As her play continues, she discards the old and dons the new. But will her mess-making come back to haunt her?! Or will she be triumphant at the last.
My thoughts: I really liked this one. It was cute. Little ones who loved Counting with Tiny Cat should definitely seek this one out as well. Schwarz has written several other books starring cats--all of them delightful. I've reviewed There Are Cats In This Book and There Are No Cats In This Book.
The text of this one is simple, super simple. I liked the text, I did. But I loved, loved, LOVED the illustrations. They add all the silliness.
Tiny Cat is back! This time Tiny Cat uses props to dress up as other animals. The sparse text and simple illustrations offer much for young readers to discuss and imitate. The gentle visual humor with an imaginative twist at the end will leave readers wanting for another Tiny Cat book.
In this adorable introduction to the power of imagination, a kitten uses toys and household items to pretend to be other animals, for instance holding up two plates as mouse ears. The kitten goes on to be an elephant (using what looks like a vacuum hose for a trunk), bird (party hat beak), horse (tall boots to gain height), a porcupine (brush’s bristles), and a snake (wrapped up in a rug). When all the discarded items appear ominously to be turning into a dragon, the kitten momentarily looks unnerved, but then gives a roar like a lion which returns the items to a pile of harmlessness. Deceptively simple, drawn using gray and black brush strokes on a clean white background with items all colored pale blue, this will resonate with children and adults alike.
This is really adorable! Tiny cat creates lots of other animals using household objects and his/her imagination. My favourite was the horse! Lots of fun and I cannot wait to share this with my little one.
Using toys and clothes other seemingly random items, Cat creates lots of different animals and the sounds they make throughout this quirky and cute board book!
