A man with no past, but who holds the future of the world in his hands. A woman who has sworn to protect him, for reasons she does not understand. A killer who must destroy them, or lose all he holds dear. They are running—from each other, from the plague that is killing all around them, from the dark forces beyond their understanding. Running from shadow to shadow. From dark to dark. Hoping to find light. Hoping that this darkness is not all there is. Hoping…because hope is all they have in This Darkness Light

It is sometimes nigh impossible to review a novel like "This Darkness Light" without sounding like you're getting paid to review it, which I was not. This was the first and latest novel by Mb Collings I've read. June of 2018 was the first, just finished the second. Yes - it's that good.
Several have gone into detail concerning the plot and characters, so I won't repeat those insights. I read This Darkness Light the second time because the first left me mentally shell-shocked. I was new to Mr. Collings as a reader. My intro to him was via Fivver and a search for a cover for my first novel. Mb won the competition, so I decided by way of gratitude I would give a couple of his books a read.
Damn good call on my part. The prose in this particular novel is a well-woven as the plot. The characters well-defined in a manner rarely matched. Good vs. evil. Unsung heroes and heroines. Unlikely alliances and unexpected turns.
The first novel I read twice was The Lord of the Rings at the age of 15. I can count on one hand the books I love enough to read time and again. I have now added This Darkness Light and Mr. Collings along side of works by Tolkien, Stephen King, Anne Rice, James Clavell, Alexander Dumas and T. H. H. White which I will never tire of re-reading.
If you've read other works by MC, you'll want to add this one. If you've never read anything by this author - this is the perfect place to start.
This book was a gift from the author and this review is my own.
This is my third book from Mr. Collings, I first have to say I’m a reviewer on his team so just you know, my review has nothing to do with that. John wakes up from a coma with no memory, the hospital his in is under attack from people trying to find him while a infectious outbreak is killing everyone! A vigilante ex-priest/killer is blackmailed to find this man. The POTUS is losing his mind as the world begins to collapse from the sickness. Undercover intrigue, A criminal mastermind.. or is he? Creature feature as victims turn into something else. Sarafina, a nurse on an adventure she never asked for, murders and mayhem.. I’m exhausted! The action never stops.. this fast paced book was captivating from page one! The ending? You’ll see.. maybe a promise for another adventure.. if you need an exciting read? I’m not asking.. I’m telling you. Read immediately!
This was so much fun to read and the action kept me reading quickly. The characters are well fleshed out and the story was exciting and had enough twists and turns to pull it along. I love post-apocalyptic stories and this was kind of that as it’s an approaching apocalypse. The between chapter segments of emails between the president and others was interesting and tied the plot together. I’ve read a lot by this author and I think this might be one of my faves. Definitely check it out!
Serafina and John are on the run, they are running from a killer who wants them dead. They come across a man who is a lost soul, will he be the answer to their problems, or is he part of the danger? Who can be trusted? Add a deadly virus killing everyone around them. Will they be able to get away from the darkness, or will it consume them? Who is behind this, and why? They are in a race against time, dangers unknown, not knowing who the enemy is. Will they survive and find the answers they are looking for?
A very intense psychological thriller. Written in a very original style, starting chapters with emails, leaving you to wonder who is writing and receiving each (email). I really liked the thrill of not knowing who to trust, who is good and who is bad. I loved the "shock factor". A fantastic story , gripping and compelling. I will be reading more of Michaelbrent Collings books. A must read for those who love suspense/thrillers/horror.
This starts off like a fast paced thriller. John wakes up in a hospital with no memory and people are trying to kill him. A nurse, Serafina, helps him and they go on the run from government agents who will stop at nothing to destroy those in the way. Cue high body count and fight scenes ... awesome :) But then the dead start to morph into monsters and a thick fog begins to roll over the country, governments go silent as millions die from a horrific disease spread by the carriers ... will John and Serafina be able to stop the end from coming? Will Isaiah, the haunted priest who hunts them, reconcile to his own demons? A super fast-paced book that spirals from thriller into post-apocalyptic horror. Great fun!
Jason Bourne wishes he was as cool as John Doe; this action suspense will keep the reader on edge the entire book as good and evil battle it out across the world.
This is the first book I have read by Michael Collings - but it won't be the last. Once I read the 1st 10 pages - I couldn't put it down. The pace is frenetic and the characters are arresting. A John Doe, yes that is his name, and a gutsy ICU nurse on the run. A priest turned assassin and a very creepy psycho on their path - the hunters have all the resources of the government and technology on their side. You wonder if they will survive. I won't reveal details - just READ this BOOK!!!! There is some wicked black humor too, the encrypted emails between the hapless president of the USA and his oh so secret mastermind are fun. Chilling stuff too. Thank you Michael Brent Collins!
Is it possible Michaelbrent Collings attempts (and inevitably reaches bestseller status) in just about every genre, because he brings the best elements of all the others into the book at hand? In my opinion, yes.
The copy on the cover compares This Darkness Light to Jason Bourne. It’s also worthy of Stranger Things. It begins as a fairly straightforward thriller and seamlessly transitions into something Lovecraftian.
MbC is also a screen writer and it shows in this novel, because the story reads cinematically. The action winds tighter and tighter until I forget I’m reading.
It seems like EVERY book I read by this author becomes my new favorite! He so easi!y draws you in; sights, sounds, smells, especially emotions and feelings, I couldn't have put it down if my life depended on it! Michaelbrent Collings is a master storyteller with the ability to immerse the reader in his world and feel as though it's real. I read all night, wide-eyed and heart pounding...Loved it!
The guts of this book were phenomenal. Action, mystery, and more than one wtf moment. With 10 pages left, I wondered how the author was going to tie up all these loose ends. The finally pages left me wanting more, but I wasn't disappointed in it. Overall, fantastic book and on par with his other works. I would definitely recommend this book to others!!!
While this story was not my usual type, it became strangely addictive and while able to figure out its concept it still became a story that had to be finished. A good read, for sure!
Very 'TwilightZone'. A simple premise with a juxtaposition of good and evil. The story was not unlike HG Wells War of the Worlds. The surprise was no surprise but I liked the action
Another book that I liked and finished but wasn't awed even though there was a lot going on in this apocalyptic book. Maybe it was too fantastical, too other worldly for me? I may read on but I will try another author or two before I do.
Every time I put it down I’d forget what I was reading about. Good enough story but just seems disconnected in some way. Characters never seemed like real people. They seemed like story book people. Finished it, but already forgetting it.
I love this author! Me likey. Me lovey. Lol. Never expected the twist at the end. Wasn’t sure what to expect. That’s the best. Usually books are very predictable. More please!
Book good. Me like words in book. More words! Wow! What a story!! It doesn’t stop for a minute. Absolutely could not it it down. Other reviews will tell you what it’s about, I’m telling you it’s a great read. Don’t miss out
Great writing with a compelling narrative. I did fid the plot confusing at times but it all came together in the end. Definitely want to read more from this writer.
